Possible Brick yellow GN Sprint - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

GN Sprint -Cant' get to boot loaders, recovery or anything for that matter. On my screen there is a picture of a phone yellow exclamation point and a monitor. PC recognized the devices for a minute, then disappears.
I've seen posted on the yellow exclamation point, but no fixes that I could find.
any assistance is appreciated.

Can you use fastboot or adb commands at all?

No. Message kicks back "no device found".

What were you doing when this happened?

Trying to restore to factory using odin and the process failed.
found a Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device in the device manager if that helps at all.
Can't communicate to the phone via the PC at all.

Ouch.. bad cable? Possibly... there are a few tricks I know of for my epic like battery cpr... holding whatever buttons it is to go into the bootloader (or whatever it is for the gnex) and popping in and out the battery. Leave the battery out for a long period of time like an hour and try to get into "download" mode odin mode etc... if you do get it back into that mode don't use the same cable... get a good thick cable. Or try another usb port.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

Thanks. I'll let it sit for an hour or so and see if that does anything.
using a decent cable, but will try another one and another port.
No matter was buttons are pressed i get the same screen.

I would bring it into Sprint and tell them the phone shut off in the middle of the OTA software update that was pushed to it. (I've seen that happen before with exactly this result)
They'll replace it for you. Hope you have TEP or ESRP, or else it's a $35 mistake!

It was a $35 mistake. Sprints return paperwork also states if the phone is ruined they can charge another $125. Lets hope not.
Thanks for the input.
Denver

The only reason they would charge you the $125 is if the phone had physical or liquid damage. They can't tell it was rooted if it's that bricked.
Coming from a former Sprint Tech.

Sweet. If they do charge, I'll send you the bill. : )
Thanks again.
Denver

Haha, sure. I've still got connections.
Best of luck with your new one!

[Q] This means I'm bricked, don't it?

--Backstory--
I have the Epic 4G touch, not the Galaxy S2 Int. So I'm on CDMA. Anyways, I was installing the Samsung Official Update since I didn't have a ROM on my phone. -_-
It got stuck at "Modem.bin". It was stating "Please wait 2 minutes" but it was like 10 min later. So Like all the other ROMs, I just pulled the plug and did a battery pull. It gave me the option for Odin again, or the recovery mode. I had to flash Clockwork using Odin since I always end up having the Stock Recovery.
--The problem...--
Now... I have the stock recovery. The only buttons that work is Vol up and Vol Down, and the search capacitive just makes the screen blank. My home, menu, and back buttons don't work.
I can go to the Odin mode on my phone, but my phone doesn't connect to a computer. If I plug it while it's off, it'll show the battery symbol then go to stock recovery.
While in Odin, it's just that basic screen that you see. The one about how many flashes you have and stuff. It's just that Odin doesn't recognize my device. My computer doesn't recognize my device. No computer does, but plugging it in turns it on.
I don't think there's anything else I can do from this point.
I'm also thinking about a Jtag service instead of a $100 replacement, since a Jtag service would be $50. Will a Jtag service work even though my computer doesn't read the USB from the phone? And what about a USB Jig? I can get to Download Mode, it just doesn't work.

Same thing is happening to me. Phone not connecting to pc in download mode. Seems hopeless at the moment
Sent from the future.
did you install the samsung drivers?
I agree
You are probly missing the samsung drivers
Hmm... Check the --backstory-- for those telling me to get the drivers. Or maybe I should get the Int. drivers since I think my phone has the Int. Stock Rom and not the Epic 4G Touch.
I WAS able to connect to my computer. I was downloading and installing the STOCK ROM and it got stuck on "Modem.bin". The very last setting it says before it resets and restarts the phone and then it should say "pass" or "fail". (While in Odin, if you pay attention to the box) That's when I did the battery pull to try something else.
I used to do that for all the other ROMs I tried flashing using Odin, so I expected similar results.
So the drivers aren't an issue. It doesn't work on any other computer I plug it in. There isn't any data traveling, just current. I'll look for my original charger since I was using my HTC charger cable. I'm hoping the only thing is that the Samsung want's the Samsung charger.
If this doesn't work, I'm guessing that Jtag service is what I need. Saves $50. (checked, they charge $50 and Sprint Insurance Replacement is $100).
What is this 3-button thing I'm hearing about? Holding Vol-up, Vol-Down, and Power button I'm hearing about? That just takes me to stock recovery.
I'm thinking I was installing the Int. Version and the reason why the Stock Recovery isn't working is because it's looking for the physical home button instead of capacitive. Which is why I'm stuck like I am. I can navigate, I just can't select in recovery.
Ironic that the Stock ROM bricked my phone like this. -_-
which stock rom did you try to install because we only have a dump as far as i know
No its not ironic if you flashed the GSM international rom you had better pray for your phone .....
We have cdma radio sgs2 is gsm .... You never want to flash a gsm rom with radio instabrick

That's what I'm thinking I did. The recovery mode, I can navigate up and down, but I can't select. I think it's the International version and it's looking for the physical home button. That's probably what's going on.
I just came from the G2, which was very close to the Desire Z, that they could use the same ROMs. So that's why I was just searching Galaxy S2 ROMs instead of Epic 4G Touch. That's what I get. -_-
Going for the JTag
If anybody has anything else to say go for it. I'm going with the Jtag service. My phone will be gone for a few days. Like 3 since I'm in TX. and it's only $50 compared to a replacement of $100.
*sigh* This is a lesson well learned.
My scenario once again.
Recovery Mode: I can only move up and down. I can't select anything.
Download Mode: I can go there, but the phone doesn't connect to the computer. I'm not trying to sound like a prick, but obviously I have the drivers if my phone is bricked. It's not like turned my phone on and bammed it's flashing.
Thanks for any help, but I don't think this could be solved. I think I'm soft brick + hard bricked.
Did you go on irc its easier to help someone like that .....just go on and ask some of the devs may be able to point you in the right direction

I'm Screwed & Offering A Bounty

So here's the deal: I got my E4GT and rooted it. Everything was fine until I let my son play a game on my phone and the USB cable became unplugged. He decided to "help" me and plug it back in. In doing so, he bent the cable end to 90 degrees and jacked up my USB port. It will charge, but the PC does not recognize it for data. I worked with another user on here to come up with any ideas to restore to stock so I could exchange it. The closest that I came was going back to a stock kernel. Unfortunately, it is now stuck in a boot loop and I can't flash anything else since I am back to stock kernel. I tried to take it to my local store for repair, figuring that I would offer the guy some cash to just get it back to booting correctly. Unfortunately, I must have the one guy at the one store where they don't bend the rules. So right now I have a paperweight. I will pay anyone who can come up with a fix a $50 bounty. I'm really hoping that I don't have to just pitch this thing.
Thanks and feel free to PM any solutions.
Do you have Sprint TEP? If so, you can probably get it exchanged for no cost. If not, it would be $35.

Just because you're on a stock kernel doesn't mean you can't flash in Odin. I don't understand. Can you or can you not get into download mode (Vol. Down + Power)?

This may be a question for a Sprint rep, but would they have noted my records since I went to the store to have it repaired and admitted that it was rooted? If not then OI may take a damage route out if it'll work.

Firstly, we're not supposed to reject phones for root. Our M&P's clearly state we work on rooted phones and does NOT void any warranty with us. So either call him out on that or find a different tech.
Secondly, the microwave idea? If i see so much as any board damage, the phone's getting rejected. Then your definitely put of luck because your device will be flagged as DBR an ineligible for exchange. Not a smart idea, considering responsible techs such as my self make it a point to inspect every phone internally if it's not turning on at all.

So how exactly do I "call him out"? My only option for a repair store is a horrible place. They are the only major store for MILES around and treat EVERY customer like ****. If I just say that he's supposed to work on it and there is nothing saying that the warranty is voided, he most likely is going to tell me to get bent.

is the usb port on the phone bent? Like loose or anything? you could always lookup how to open the phone and solder a replacement usb jack on. I believe its a simple 3 to 4 point solder on the edge of the board.

Nexus' dead, Samsung USA cannot help and am lost

So more than a week ago my phone went into "Downloading Mode" and I had no clue what it was in the first place. I took my battery off and put it back and still didn't work.
After that my phone only went to Downloading or fastboot and so I researched more about all these rooting and unlocking stuff. I downloaded Gnex toolkit because I wanted to go back to stock 4.0.2 again and I did what the program told me (Unlocked my bootloader and downloaded the GSM 4.0.2 factory image and set up fastboot.exe). My phone was recognized by GNEx toolkit and fastboot and I put yes to bring back to stock 4.0.2 but half way through the process it gave me an error (******(Unknown error)) and my phone went off and now it WON'T GO to fastboot or downloading mode. The phone doesn't start and if it did it goes it's stuck on the google but it doesn't show up; it shows up as a messed up green pixeled image.
I called Samsung USA and they said we cannot help you and I got really pissed while talking to them because they cannot help and they said they don't know who could.....then the guy offered to give me Samsung China number which I refused and hung up.
So how to get my phone back from the dead. The computer doesn't recognize it and if it turns on to this green google messed up image it doesn't do anything, it just goes off and comes back on the same screen.
Please help guys. this $680 phone is now a piece of scrap
You're right, Samsung USA is in no way obligated to help you, considering they don't sell the phone here (this should be well known when you buy a "gray market" device). You can't get mad at them about that. Where did you buy it from?
If it sometimes boots you have a chance. Someone more knowledgable than me will be able to give you specifics I'm sure. It may require some kind of USB jig to get it into fastboot mode though.
I bought it from back home Abu Dhabi, UAE but it was imported. The phone is probably made in SK.

Try holding down both the Volume Keys while putting in the battery and connecting the USB (which should already be connected to the computer). If that doesn't work, try it again with holding the power button. This was one of the solutions that brought back my Samsung Vibrant from the dead a couple of times. USB Jigs are an option as well, and any Samsung Galaxy S one should work. You can even make one yourself.

I think I bricked my EPIC 4G -- Please help!

I know there's been several threads on this in the past and I've tried most if not all of the solutions in them (except for the JIG) to no avail.
My EPIC 4G was on stock GB and I tried to ODIN GB08 as per this thread. The process failed (the message didn't tell me much) and left my phone as it is now. No lights ever and no way to go into download mode or recovery mode.
I have:
- tried to go into download mode by pressing 1+Power without the battery or SD card and then inserting the battery
- tried to go into download mode by pressing 1+Power without the battery or SD card and then plugging the phone via USB (using different cables)
- left the phone charging overnight
- left the phone without the battery for a while and then attempting the steps above
Nothing. Not a peep. Not a little light or sign of life anywhere.
Did I fully brick my phone and have nothing to do other than use it as paperweight or sell for parts? Keep in mind I'm no longer on Sprint, so I don't think I could get it repaired by them.
Any help is appreciated, except for the little reset button under the camera. Let's not go there again. LOL

OMG!!! I didn't even realize! I googled "EPIC 4G ODIN GB08" (is that even the latest stock ROM?) and that was one of the results. I didn't even check!
Anything you would recommend at this point to get my phone back to life? Remember I'm no longer a Sprint user.
If you are indeed on our device, SPH-D700, and flashed a SPH-D710 ROM, then you're hosed.
Our device's last official release is FC09.
Learn from the mistake.
God, this is so ironic! The phone was perfect yesterday and the only reason I was upgrading from GB was to enjoy it for a little while as a backup WiFi only device and then sell it. It's MINT. It looks like it just came out of the box. Not the slightest scratch anywhere. That's how I kept it for the whole year I used it as my primary phone. And here I thought Samsung devices were unbrickable, since you could overwrite ANYTHING on them with Odin, including bootloader.
Someone on that forum suggested I buy and use a JIG. I wasn't really sure what it was, but found many on eBay and the description sounds like what I need. They claim to get you into download mode even if you're bricked. Is that wrong or non-applicable in my case after this huge screwup? Would this one work?

You completely didn't read this thread. This guy flashed an Epic Touch rom on his Epic 4G. He's tried all normal methods of forcing download mode. He's at the last step before considering it a paperweight, which is using a jig.
Read and understand what is being asked and suggested prior to blindly posting.
i think I'm bricked too, any updates on the Jig method?

Oh, sorry for the delay. I got the jig and it didn't work. No download mode. Nothing. My mint EPIC 4G (it doesn't have the slightest scratch of scuff anywhere) is now a paperweight because of a silly error on my part.
I have a bricked sph-d700 and noticed after fooling with it in the dark that when trying to get into download the device actually comes on. The screen lites up a little. It then won't turn off without pulling the battery. So, after every attempt to get into download pull the battery.
My problem is I can get into download but Odin does not see it. I have tried on a windows XP machine and Vista 32 machine. Windows see the device (Unknown Device) but does not recognize it as "Samsung USB so and so". Is"unknown device" good enough for Odin to see the device? I have tried several driver fixes and the cable I use I have used for data transfer and flashing another Samsung phone.
Where do I go from here?

T989 Boot Loop Question

Guys/Gals,
I have an issue with my T989 that just arose over the weekend. First a little background about my experience and what has been done to the phone. I had the phone rooted with various versions of JB installed around a year ago. I was basically trying different firmwares, it was like a hobby. I decided to go back to stock FW around this same time (around a year ago) and have been running stock since then. In other words, I did not keep custom FW on the device very long.
This weekend, my phone just decided to crash when I was trying to send a text. I thought maybe the battery was dead so I plugged the phone in. The phone came up and goes through the progress bar located on the "Samsung Galaxy SII Android 4G Tmobile" screen. It gets almost all the way to the end of the progress bar and then shuts down and reboots starting the process over again. Occasionally it will make it all the way through and go to the "Samsung" flash screen that normally proceeds getting into the actual OS. When it does make it this far, the Samsung logo just keeps flashing and it never proceeds further.
I try to enter download mode via power + the up and down volume keys. Doing this leads me to the start of download mode; however, the droid falls over dead with a red triangle and exclamation point appearing around his stomach area and the following message appears for a moment before rebooting:
"
--Verifying internal MMC block
checksum confirmation -> check (0)
Not need checksum confirmation
already executed!!...
# MANUAL MODE #
"
One big problem with this is I cannot enter download mode and my PC does not recognize the device. When it actually makes it to the SAMSUNG logo, the device is seen as "unknown." I have the drivers and try to install them, but windows provides the following error message: I don't have it verbatim, but it is an error 29 and states the devices firmware failed to allocate resources.
Any ideas? I am leaning towards the internal memory is damaged. Do you think a JIG stick would help me get into download mode or will I probably get the same error message?
Thanks!
Not sure if this will fix your problem, but to get into download(Odin) mode you need to hold volume up + down and plug USB into your computer.

Thanks for the reply. I am able to initiate download mode as you described, but receive the error I described above almost immediately. Download mode just won't launch. The device errors out and I get the droid with the red triangle coming out of his stomach and the device reboots. I just ordered a USB jig. Hopefully it can save my device. I am not liking my chances.

If you take out the battery and put it back in does the phone turn on by itself? It kind of sounds like you may have a sticky power button. If that is indeed the problem, there is some stuff you can try near the end of this thread:

Sounds like my phone..Same issues..It's on its third trip to Samsung today... If it's under warranty, I'd express you want the board replaced along with the power button components.....They replaced all my components except the board, and they're doing that this time... .

Just "unknown." It only shows this when it actually gets to the glowing "Samsung" logo. It does not see the device at all when it is in reboot over and over mode.
I would agree with smokin Joe then, I'd call Sammy and id check ur powers button as it may ba stuck....

Thanks for the info. No warranty left. I am going to order a Nexus 4 I suppose. I have a USB jig on order as a last ditch effort to get into download mode.

Its not too hard to remove the power button and put on another. Its also a hell of a lot cheaper than getting a new phone. Its worth a shot id say. Button is less than 5 bucks. A reputable electronics shop would likely only charge 10 bucks to solder it on if you disassemble it and have everything ready. Its easy to remove the entire logic board. Before taking it to them though, try blowing the button out with compressed air. It fixed my bootloop

Not sure if this will fix your problem, but to get into download(Odin) mode you need to hold volume up + down and plug USB into your computer.

I opened the phone and tried the fix from the forum link above. My power button is still clicking and does not appear to be sticking. I don't think this is the issue. I am leaning towards internal memory error. I should have my usb jig tomorrow. I ordered a Nexus 4 in the mean time. I will sell this phone if I get it working. Thanks for the assistance!
Well guys and gals, I think my phone is officially dead. I received my USB JIG and the phone actually goes into "download mode" and displays the following:
Factory Mode
Product Name: SGH-T989
Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
The problem is the PC still sees it as "unknown" with the firmware error "29" message. I don't know what else to try. Any other thoughts?
Thanks!
