How to Re-Install Stock System Apps - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I accidentally erased my stock calendar (running Stock FD26 ROM). When I try to re-install the calendar apk (TW and not the Stock ICS calendar that can be found on CM9/AOKP), it will not work.
Many people on xda and other forums have said to copy the apk via root explorer to system/app, check all permissions then reboot.
I copied and pasted the apk to system/app, checked all permissions, and reboot. Nothing happens. This also happened with the voice recording app. Can anyone give me some advice?

I am sure someone can help you but personally to be quick about it shouldnt Odining over a stock build replace all the system apps? Certainly would undo other things you have done. Sfhub one click odin the same version use the no data one.

So i disabled it when I was on FC24. I used sfhubs no data wipe to get FD26. I guess I could try again.

Whenever you flash the FD26 OneClick, it will reinstall all the apps that came with FD26. If you flash the NoData, it'll keep your existing data partition.
Therefore, if you flash the NoData version, the calendar apk should be put back in place.

[Q] mod or change browser apk

Is there any way I can mod or change the apk on the EC05 Froyo. I cannot stand it. Its always restarting itself even without a force close notification. It makes the phone go soo slow and it only has 4 windows. The stock Enclair browser was so much better. I really don't want to use an alternative like dolphin browser. Please if anyone can help, please do.

If your rooted, push the browser from an eclair rom to /system/app/

Why don't you give a custom ROM a try? SRF has a modified CM6 browser with no checkerboarding, no slow, no crash, no window limit, and Incognito available!
If you must, you can extract that APK from SRF. But why do that?
use Miren (MIUI) Browser.... Blacked Out

I would but I really don't want to wipe my data.
Can I just extract the browser and push it to /system/app? Just like that?

You don't have to wipe your data! SRF automatically backs up and restores your data. It's a seamless flash from stock EC05! And help is always available in our IRC channel.
Yes, you can do that.
I tried just replacing the browser apk in root explorer but I got the force close pop up. Any ideas?

What did u replace it with? Goto applications under setting and wipe browser data then try

I did that and I still got the force close. any other suggestions

What's wrong with using an alternative? I wiped my browser from the rom's zip and put dolphin mini instead in the zip

I have given up I think I might just end up using SRF. So just install from zip no wiping data or cache or anything like that?

No need unless you have issues.
I installed it without wiping anything and my phone never booted past the samsung screen. So I restored to stock ec05 with odin then I restored one of my backups.
Well anyways how can I flash to syndicate rom from rooted ec05 and still keep my data?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA Premium App
You're not on CWM3. You have to re-root with the newest CWM to flash SFR.

I meant why not use an alternate like dolphin? All browser settings can be set to dolphin as default browser.

Yeah I wasnt going to do anything important just stuff like galaxy s tuner and kies air and other stuff I have never used
yup, i generally do that with all roms i download.. go through and pull out stuff i don't want/need before flashing..
Thanks for the fast response I just did it so hopefully next time I flash it is a little cleaner I made a copy of the original in case I did something wrong I can always install it the way it has always worked in the past.

How do I reinstall...

Root programs that I've uninstalled via root uninstaller?

I've removed some programs through root uninstaller. Such as gmail. I didn't make backups.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Probably have to wipe data and reinstall roms or try flashing a Gapps package.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
some apps, such as gmail, can be downloaded from the market. For others have you tried pulling the apks from your rom.zip and placing them in /system/app?
While it is normally fine to remove certain system apps (I routinely strip down every rom I install of certain apps), getting them back can be a pain sometimes if you're not sure how to do it. Another way to achieve the same goal is to 'freeze' all the apps you don't want to use. They won't show in the app list and they won't run in the background but they will still be there if you ever need them.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I would wipe data if it doesn't work reflash the rom.
Some of the stuff you may have removed may be best resolved by reflashing the build that you're using. For example, I use Gmail and another mail app, no need for Exchange or the stock email. I used to not back these up so when I actually needed to test something it was off to ODIN my phone again . Now I use TB and back it up before I remove it.
This is very simple to fix. It should never be a pain to accomplish either.
1: Find the apps you want to restore in the rom you flashed (if you don't have the original .zip, download it or a similar rom). Use 7zip or WinRAR to open the rom file.
2. Copy the apps you want to your sdcard.
3. Use Root Explorer or similar app to move or copy the apps to /system/app (you will need to make sure your file explorer can mount the /system in rw)
4. Reboot and enjoy
Basically you just want to pull the apps from a copy or the rom you flashed or a similar one (ICS>ICS GB>GB). Then move those apps to /system/app and reboot. The phone will reinstall them when it boots back up.

YouTube help!

I switched ROMs from AOKP to AOSPTW or whatever its called. YouTube in the market said it couldn't update because the file was signed incorrectly or something. I uninstalled YouTube using titanium backup and now Google play says "incompatible update" or something. When I try to restore my backup it keeps going and never restores. Any help in getting YouTube back without having to flash anything, or reflash anything?
Use a file browser, open up the ROM zip, navigate thru the files until you get to the system/apps, copy the you tube all and paste it into your system/apps. Make sure you fix the permissions. Reboot and you'll have it back. It was purposely signed the way it was to make it work with the ROM. If you read his thread he explains it several times. Or, you can reflash the ROM wiping only dalvic and cache.

stock calendar and mail apps

Tmobile samsung galaxy S III, Model: SGH-T999L, Build Number: JZO54K. T999LUVAMB7
rooted, still with stock rom.
When trying to delete some bloat ware, the stock calendar and mail app got deleted as well. I tried install them back, but failed.
Here are steps I did:
unzip stock ROM and get below files from /system/app:
SecCalendar_NAmerica.apk
SecCalendar_NAmerica.odex
SecExchange.apk
SecExchange.odex
SecEmail.apk
SecEmail.odex
using es explorer to set /system to RW, copy the above files to /system/app, change permission to rw-r--r-- for all of them
set /system back to RO
reboot
the calendar and mail app didn't come back, not in the app drawer.
tried to go to /system/app and click related apk to install, it shows: "application not installed".
could anyone point me what is missing? thanks.

Already rebooted couple times.not sure if there is compatibility issues?
As long as you pulled them from the same Rom/build version it should be fine. You could always reflash your Rom or firmware and start again.

As the good Doctor said, Reflash your Rom. Since its the same rom, I don't think you will loose any data. The bloat might come back.
I think you possibly deleted other related Apks sich as GMS or Google Core. Or may be those apks you tried are from different version. If you want to De-bloat, try one of the guides like this one.
Flashing the same will restore everything to the roms original state and won't wipe anything.
Not sure if it's the same as Perseus' link, but Aerowinder has a debloater in his signature a few post a back.

I *think* the problem might be I am not using the correct apk...
I used root66 way odin flashed MB7system.tar.md5 to root the phone, didn't flash any other ROMs.
When I tried to get those 6 apk, I was not able to get those from MB7system.tar.md5(unzip it to .ext4 file and don't know what to do with it).
So I got those files from T999L_UVAMB7_PureStockRooted.zip. Could this be the problem?
DocHoliday77, how can I get those 6 files from MB7system.tar.md5? I'd try this first before I reflash it again.
regarding reflash, in my case, do I just odin MB7system.tar.md5 again? and my own app/data will stay?
thanks

If you are on Linux you can Untar that file. If on Windows you should be able to open the tar with Winzip. Either way Re-Flashing Tar should not delete your data.
With the firmware it's not quite so simple as extracting it. (Youd need to install the kitchen and use it to extract everything from the .img.ext4 file. This has already been done though and is what the pure stock Rom was built from)
If you pull it from the pure stock Rom, make sure you are also getting the corresponding .odex files.
If you already are, then you need to flash either CWM or TWRP recovery and wipe dalvik cache and cache.
Or you can factory reset
Or you can reflash the firmware on top of what you have now. No wipe required.
All of these things should be relatively easy to do. If you've already got the root66 firmware, then easiest would be to just reflash it.
Putting the correct files back in /system/app should work, but if not, that's probably your best option.

I finally managed to extract those three apk files from the ext4 files and drop them into /system/app and now I got back stock calendar and email app.
Thanks both of you!
