Not that we didn't already know this, but I figured it'd be something to post. Was chatting to a Sprint person (or robot, not sure) about the picture compressing issue (which he said he reset and would be fixed in about 15 minutes) and at the tail end, I asked when they would be releasing ICS for the Epic 4G Touch and he said "it will be releasing in the mid [middle] of the year", meaning this month or next month (probably this month).
Just thought I'd share, although it may or may not mean much.
(Mind you, I'm already aware of the official leaks from Samsung, but I was just curious.)

I'd go with "that lady doesn't know what she's talking about"
Sprint customer service reps have very little knowledge regarding software releases.

The manager probably told everybody to say the software update is in August so when people likely get it a month or two early they cant complain.

Exactly, under promise and over deliver, typical sales practice.
Yeah, given the maturity of FD26, there's no way it'll be another 3 months.
Most likely the system says mid-year, so the rep was assuming the end of summer to be safe.

Would be great but I doubt it.

I could deal with that too.
I'd rather have them do that than over promise which is what they usually did in the past.
I'm thinking official release may be June or July. The way these software releases usually go, sprint may have the final product by next week, but they will want to push their newest ics phones first, trying to get people to resign contracts and fork out some cash. Then the update is "conveniently" released after a month or 2 of new phone sales. Hopefully I'm wrong though.

If it does take until August then sprint needs some better techs. There would be no reason for a delay that long. The leaks we have now are 99% good to go, I could not image what would take them so long.

Eh, there never was an official announcement that showed anything before March but at this point I'm not defending Microsoft til they give reason. It's an amazing OS but if they're just going to string people along then it's definitely losing ground in my book.

That's how I feel. But rationally thinking, why would a company handle business this way? It makes me think they are trying to iron out something completely unexpected; trying to capitalize on a sudden resource. I think once they finally do get past the first big update, things will go smoother and faster from then on. There's no rationality to a consumer oriented company (a company making efforts to be consumer oriented) putting off its customer base. There has to be a good reason for how things are going.
Maybe MS has its hands full of the carriers. Maybe the carriers are so badly locking down MS that they can't organize well enough. Too bad MS doesn't go with a single hardware market system and run with that. They would have complete control over the whole system, much like Apple does with the iPhone. Not saying it will happen, but speculatively speaking, MS just might be headed in that direction. If the carriers are, in fact, causing all the problems, MS might just get to a point where they will have had enough and discontinue multiple hardware support and focus on one specific handset...of their choosing. Then the carriers will get taught a valuable lesson.

Yeah, please do show some proof because I'm quite certain if that was the case it would've come up on some tech blog. All of which ive been following daily since months before the initial release of WP7. Microsoft made no official announcement aside from "Early 2011." From there they went on to say "The first 2 weeks of March." Finally we come to where we're at today.
It was supposed to have been released on the 7th, but was pulled - yet again. The latest date I have is the 22nd.
What irks me is that this update is still the same old build that's been ready for deployment since January.

Where are you getting this information?
z33 is correct. Microsoft's only official announcment about the first update was Q1 2011. Which doesn't end until March 31st.
There were several rumors from various tech blogs about January and then February but nowhere has an official MS announcement been made on an exact day and/or time.
I've also been following about 10 or so tech blogs since about December.
it was always Q1 for the nodo and Q3 for the mango.... MS never give out dates... no one will give out dates for the updates come on...

Does this mean I will be able to use my upgrade by December 31st? Or what? Kind of confusing. lol
P.S. I knew they were ending Premier, just didn't know if they'd give me an early upgrade or not.
Is everyone else getting this wording in their mail?
I thought it had been pretty well established that the "New For You" program was for employees only. Unless, of course, you are one.
Anyway, it does sound like that upgrade will be available to you up to 12/31/2012.
Wonder if that's for Gold only and if I can still go Gold somehow...
Yes, you have all of next year to use your upgrade. There is a short window where if you actually use the upgrade on 10/1/2011 or before, you'll have another upgrade 11-12 months later, at which point the subsequent upgrade will be 20 months later.

Sorry I misread the original letter. If you are *already* qualified for your Premier Gold upgrade, and you use it by 10/1, you'll get 1 more premier upgrade at 11-12 months, after which you'll be on the 20 month upgrade cycle. If you don't use or don't qualify until after 10/1, then after your next upgrade, you'll be on the 20 month upgrade cycle.
The OP doesn't qualify until next year, so this doesn't apply to him.
I know this is an old thread, but we are now into 2012 where previous Gold members should be getting their last upgrade. Sprint refuses to give me mine unless I provide this letter. Has anyone else had trouble with using your last upgrade before the end of this year?
According to this FAQ, it's clear to me that I still get an upgrade since I did the last one in June 2011.

DeLorean thread!
Seriously though. Have you talked to retentions? That's the way I would go. Although I did hear that they have done away with retentions? There's a number floating around somewhere here with a number straight to retention center. I'm mobile so can't find it right now. Did you actually receive the letter like the OP? Or saying they won't do it because you didn't get it?

Similar here. I got my E4GT last september and I'm eligible for an upgrade in 33 days according to the sprint store website. Don't remember the exact dates of the upgrade and when I got the phone, but it would be about a year apart.

Went to Verizon today and talked to a rep about the Nexus. He said he had gotten an email today stating that Thursday was the launch date. I asked if he had any in stock. He showed me a stack of 10 behind the counter, opened one and let me play with it - only while powered off. He wrote my name and number on a sticky , put it one one of the boxes, and said he would call me if anything changed but, barring that, he would see me Thursday at 10:00. Sweet!
I remember when a rep told me the release date was on the 9th. I've given up on when this phone will finally be released. Just hope it's soon already.
Yeah I stopped in one myself too. She had just had it out showing another guy so I messed around with it while we shot the ****. They still have the date set at the 15th, but I'm having a hard time believing it's going to come. We're 18 hours away from release and they still haven't told stores to put out demos, or even started advertising. The signs just aren't indicating the phone is imminent. I really hope it comes, but the pessimist in me is saying no way.

I take it you weren't there for the Droid RAZR launch. they made the biggest deal out of that thing and pulled the whole 11/11/11 11AM bit. they had these red lines/dividers in front of the stores in anticipation of all these people showing up for it...

I keep getting mixed feelings about this. I get all hopeful that it will launch and then it doesn't. This is some pretty concrete evidence but we saw "definite" dates in Verizon's systems before. Just taking this with a grain of salt and hoping that we get an official OK from Verizon tomorrow.

That is not right. The verge must not have any lawyers on staff. The 9th Circuit issued two orders; 1) there will be no temporary stay on the tab 10.1, 2) before they act on the GNex (as in suspend the temporary injunction or not) they want a reply from Apple by July 12.

Actually they do have at least one writer that is a lawyer. And what is wrong with their article? They stated that Apple has to respond before the judge will decide on keeping the ban before trial.

Google isn't bound by the order, AFAIK. They are probably changing the firmware and didn't want people waiting / getting upset that the phone they ordered isn't shipping for another 3 weeks, so they took down the order form.

I actually didn't read the verge article until just now.
But there are 2 stays at issue here. There's an immediate stay which lasts from today until whenever the court has an opportunity to read Apple's reply (2 weeks probably). Then there's a temporary stay pending appeal which would last from the end of any immediate stay until appeal (several months, maybe years).
The immediate stays were decided but the temporary stays were not.
The orders pertaining to the GN are broken into two parts as visible on the courts website. The part you snipped from the PDF was for the galaxy tab case which has a different court file number. If you'd actually read the one PDF included in the verge article and the other from the courts website you will see the article is correct. That the preliminary injunction pertaining to the galaxy nexus is temporarily stayed until apple responds by July 12th and until the court reviews the response and makes a decision.

IMHO, this is what Sammy/Google need to do...
Sell as many as possible at or just above cost to blow out as many units as possible before the ban takes effect again. I'm sure there would be quite a few sold along the way to the ban again... at least they could sell thru what ever inventory they might have. Just to get it into as many hands as possible. They could even ship them with IDs from the IO conference so Jelly Belly would be OTA automatically.
I dunno... don't want to sound like a fan boy but Apple would probably claim predatory pricing or something.
I placed my order in the play store on July 3rd...and just recently found out about this ban lol! Damn you apple for delaying my order!!
looks like its back for sale... but seems they adjusted the estimated shipping to "Ships when Available" when its in your cart..
O well, purchased and hopefully in the queue. Hopefully it will ship sooner than their estimate of 2-3 weeks.

That's sad for me, my friend leaves the US on 18th and he was gonna get it with him! I want the GNex so bad! Any suggestions?

Hope the carriers dont add too much time to that

I'm cautiously optimistic. When the international versions of the S3 got the update that provided the screen brightness fader on the notification bar, the Sprint version of that update appeared only 2 weeks later. Hope Sprint keeps the release schedule that tight.

The GSM carriers will probably get it in quarter 3 and us in CDMA land may get it in quarter 4 if we're lucky

Hope we get factory leaks like the Epic Touch did... it was great in we always had something new to test and bad in that it was ruining my life waiting for the next leak to be released

My guess on when we get it? 8/15. That's when Samsung has their big event scheduled for... the one where, the rumors suggest, is the Note 10.1's coming-out party.
If I was Samsung, I think I could do worse than announcing Jellybean is now available for their flagship device (nominally of course- still would be a few days for the carrier rollout to occur).
In fact, if I was Samsung, I'd have my speaker up on stage, and right at the end I'd pull an "Oh, and one last thing...", you know, just to mess with Apple
Me too!

LOL, I was thinking the same thing! I guess great minds think alike....
after the owning a samsung epic im staying away from hearsay about the updates because with samsung it could be a week or like 10 months from now.

@hardy: love your signature man! Definitely one of my favorite movies :good:
Hehe, ditto... Sho'nuff!
FYI, my last three phones have been Samsungs, so I recognize that when it comes to updates and Samsung, optimism == insanity Still, I'm holding out hope that it'll be a LITTLE different this time around, at least as far as Jellybean goes.
I can confirm thst Sprint/Samsung have not made a Sprint jellybean build yet
It'll be very exciting when the update happens! Hopefully it'll occur some time before or right after the new iPhone gets released, so that I can still brag to my Apple friends how cool my phone is.
I worry that Samsung will strip out Google Now, replacing it entirely with S Voice. But I hope Samsung will come to their senses, or at least allow both side by side.

Yeah Samsung should have both S-Voice and Google Now. That would be really cool.
I think that Sprint will delay this update. Look at the Samsung Nexus S 4G. Google released Jellybean for the global Nexus S and every other version of the Nexus S. Sprint has delayed the Jellybean update for the Nexus S 4G.
I came from the Evo3d with all the ics hype and they are just now getting that ****. After that mess I don't believe the talk anymore, but hopefully we do get this soon.

I guess in Germany we´ll have to wait longer than that

As far as I can tell Sprint isn't doing ANY new development on S3 roms. The most recent RDF file I can find is for LG8

Samsung went about 2 months without rdfs before we saw the first ics one on the s2. Also, they could be building it now, it just shows up on Sprints site when it's being tested.
Hopefully they're building it now and will have it being tested soon.

Co-sign. I was burned a bit much with my OG Epic.
I think this is worth the wait
