Jelly Bean coming soon????? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S III

I'm cautiously optimistic. When the international versions of the S3 got the update that provided the screen brightness fader on the notification bar, the Sprint version of that update appeared only 2 weeks later. Hope Sprint keeps the release schedule that tight.

The GSM carriers will probably get it in quarter 3 and us in CDMA land may get it in quarter 4 if we're lucky

Hope we get factory leaks like the Epic Touch did... it was great in we always had something new to test and bad in that it was ruining my life waiting for the next leak to be released

My guess on when we get it? 8/15. That's when Samsung has their big event scheduled for... the one where, the rumors suggest, is the Note 10.1's coming-out party.
If I was Samsung, I think I could do worse than announcing Jellybean is now available for their flagship device (nominally of course- still would be a few days for the carrier rollout to occur).
In fact, if I was Samsung, I'd have my speaker up on stage, and right at the end I'd pull an "Oh, and one last thing...", you know, just to mess with Apple

Me too!

Hehe, ditto... Sho'nuff!
FYI, my last three phones have been Samsungs, so I recognize that when it comes to updates and Samsung, optimism == insanity Still, I'm holding out hope that it'll be a LITTLE different this time around, at least as far as Jellybean goes.

I can confirm thst Sprint/Samsung have not made a Sprint jellybean build yet

It'll be very exciting when the update happens! Hopefully it'll occur some time before or right after the new iPhone gets released, so that I can still brag to my Apple friends how cool my phone is.
I worry that Samsung will strip out Google Now, replacing it entirely with S Voice. But I hope Samsung will come to their senses, or at least allow both side by side.

Yeah Samsung should have both S-Voice and Google Now. That would be really cool.
I think that Sprint will delay this update. Look at the Samsung Nexus S 4G. Google released Jellybean for the global Nexus S and every other version of the Nexus S. Sprint has delayed the Jellybean update for the Nexus S 4G.

I came from the Evo3d with all the ics hype and they are just now getting that ****. After that mess I don't believe the talk anymore, but hopefully we do get this soon.

Samsung went about 2 months without rdfs before we saw the first ics one on the s2. Also, they could be building it now, it just shows up on Sprints site when it's being tested.
Hopefully they're building it now and will have it being tested soon.

Is anyone getting the HTC one?

I think that there is a quad core HTC one s coming out for the Tmobile line of phones. Anyone getting it, more undoubtedly there is an gs blaze being released add an addition to the galaxy s series of phones which is a hype looking at how we already have an original s and s2 all this does is make the galaxy s team further.

Do you really want to stay on the samsung boat? Android 5.0 is going to be launched this year, and youll have to wait 4+ months for an update again. When i jump shop, its to a phone with a running non-beta CM9. Its clear this phone has nothing in terms of CM and waiting till summer for ICS is simply pathetic on Samsungs part.

That's what I'm saying. This will probably be my last carrier subsidized phone period. Waiting on Samsung and then waiting on the carrier is a joke. This phone has been a big disappointment. I like the phone, but its like the red headed step child of the galaxy phones. This along with the skyrocket. I stopped waiting on ICS a while ago. Samsung is so hush mouth about updates. Makes you think they will do anything to get you to buy another phone. No thanks Sammy.
When we finally get ICS it will be dated and the next best thing will be out. By then the gsII will be yesterdays news. Google really needs to be more like Apple with updates. They are starting to leave a bad taste for me. This may sound like a rant but its true.

Asus has been quite good on updates with their current devices. If they keep that up id consider asus products in the future.
But at this point, im so sick of the android fragmentation that its either gonna be the google phone, or an iphone. Windows phones are starting to look more and more tempting to, specially with Windows 8 coming and whatever integration they have planned.
Even the google phones might get screwed on the CDMA side, and my carrier is CDMA only.
But its become quite clear that they havent finished ICS for the intl GSII, and probably havent started ours even. The CM team has nothing either. Have heard rumors that Cyanogen himself uses a T989 but i really doubt it, cause wed have an alpha at least.

Been using wp7. For the last two 1/2 months and although the apps aren't there yet, its been a refreshing change from all this ICS mess. Once T-Mobile comes out with a 4.3 or higher screen size, I will probably make a full switch.
I miss some of my apps and games though. Then again my ps3 takes care of the gaming issue. Wp7 runs so much smoother. Its nice to take a break from android.

{Sprint} Why Galaxy Nexus over the Evo LTE

Both phones are giving me the itchy trigger finger, and the phone's release dates are only a month apart. So I pose a question to the current G-nexus owners. What's the reasoning on choosing a device that is less superior and both selling for the same price?
I'm a nerd, So I like the idea of NFC and google wallet. Also, I wanted a pure google device. I hate that HTC is always the last to get updates and the first to add bloatware. If I was to look at another device, it would be the S3
If it s dual core evo, I would say just get the nexus

I am in the same boat here. As I see it I have three options. Stick with my Evo 3D, get a Gnex, or get a Evo 4G LTE. Right now getting a Gnex is looking good .
Super Amoled screen is better in my opinion. It's much more beautiful.
The Gnex is going to receive Android updates a lot sooner than the EVO.
HTC (in my cases) appear to drain battery quicker than any other manufacturer.
Why get a phone that will have a locked boot loader and wait until they release the unlock or wait months for someone to crack it ....no thanks
Been there done that and have the shirt with a pos 3d on it

This is the same reason I went from a HTC 3d to the Gnex .... HTC is too good at locking down a bootloader. Some of the latest HTC phones need a jump wire to root them! That, to me, is crazy.
I loved my original Evo, but changing to the Nexus S, then to the Galaxy Nexus was the best thing I ever did. Nexus phones are a million times better, whether you leave them stock and unrooted, or you like rooting and roms. There's just so many advantages to Nexus phones.

I had no clue the One S had a super Amoled screen. That explains why the screen "WOWed" me.
Get the Nexus.
The new Evo will likely break easily, be laggy, and get updates 6 months later.
Also, developer support.

I hope to also get the Evo 4G LTE as well if all goes according to plan. I want both devices, but if I had to pick one it would be very hard for me. Yes, the GNex will get updates the soonest and there is a lot of support, but I still like Sense and developing for it. I know lots of my EVO 3D guys are getting the LTE and have asked me to make a ROM.
The new processor in the LTE might only be dual core, but it is a monster. I think it will be a good phone and it will be all about preference.

Coming from an evo3d to gnex i will tell you i will never buy another htc phone in my life. The smooth vanilla ics is amazing. No root problems (so easy to root), you dont have to worry about having a certain hboot to flash kernels and such, Plus the evo lte is kinda ugly imo.

It depends on what you want... The GNex will get official updates to Jelly Bean and, more likely than not, Key Lime Pie. The Evo, on the other hand, will be lucky to get Jelly Bean at all, and KLP is almost out of the question. Also, the GNex, like all Nexus devices, has first-rate dev support. If software is important to you, then there really is no other option-- the Nexus is sovereign!

True dat, but by now we should all be used to pretty much every manufacturer/carrier lying about update dates.
HTC does it the worst - I remember when ICS came out on the Evo 3D - First HTC said it would be Q1, then they said "early 2012", and then "sometime spring", and it finally came out in July...
Don't forget out carriers taking their sweet sweet time bloating it up...memories of the epic and froyo/gingerbread are rushing back to me

The delayed ICS update for the EVO 3D was the worst. Good thing the devs had some great ICS ROMs working way before the official one was finally released.

HTC should no longer be talked about in the same matter as Samsung. The 3D was a flop and more of a headache for sprint and HTC to give it the ICS upgrade, but out of necessity (thanks Virgin Mobile) the upgrade finally made rounds.
Now back to Samsung and its most successful phone, one should expect Jelly bean to make rounds much more quicker then what would history would tell us.

I think Samsung is controlling the carriers' options for bloatware this time around, and you'll likely see less bloatware with these updates. Most reviews of the Galaxy S3 comment on how there isn't as much overbearing carrier influence on the phone to begin with, especially when compared to the original Galaxy S and Galaxy S II phones.
I learned not to be hopeful about updates with my old OG epic, I expect Official jellybean around now of '13.

I was like that, but then I had the GS2 for a while and noticed updates came faster as the hardware becomes more universal. With the SGS3 being so similar across carriers, I feel like the time periods may become closer like how the Nexus is. Their is some lag for CMDA, but with so little variance they aren't accounting for one with a keyboard and other strange variations. I think the main delay with the SGS2 was the recovery being attached to the kernel and the emmc bugs.
The devs here should have some great TW ROMs based on the international update so I'm not too worried about it.
Thanks for the info
Im not trying to get to excited about this since it never happens like we want it to but I am crossing my fingers.
Hopefully sooner than later
In BUCK We Trust. GO O's!
Hopefully steps it up due to the success of the S3 and doesn't drag their feet on Sw updates as they are known to.

It would have been good if Google made a demonstration of how Kitkat is capable with the lower end device, e.g. Gnex or the NexS.

I fear that is the case already. I am not seeing a lot of movement on the 4.4 ROMs out there, the threads are not that active, and it appears that hardware (GPU) is blocking real progress in allowing 4.4 to be stable on the GNex. I rolled back to CM 10.1.3 which has been rock-stable with good battery life and strong signal for now, and am under contract until June before I can upgrade without penalty.

I rolled back to CM 10.1.3 which has been rock-stable with good battery life and strong signal for now, and am under contract until June before I can upgrade without penalty.

Point taken, but my comment wasn't about patience, it was about volume. The traffic just appears to be less than in the heady days of JB, for instance. Fewer posts IMHO means more people moving to other devices. I hope I'm wrong!

While KitKat is said to be able to run on lower-spec devices, this doesn't mean every phone ever made will begin to receive updates, nexus or otherwise. Will the HTC Hero receive KitKat? What about the Evo 4G? It has 512mb ram, and should run it just fine. This update was created to get rid of Gingerbread from the entry level devices being sold in developing countries.

Marshmallow update

Really dont understand why it takes so long for the update for a "flagship device"? Focusing on pushing more hardware without taking care of your existing customer's is bad PR IMO. I just want to try something new

I understand where you are coming from. I am looking forward to the update also but I would rather have an update that is finished then get an update that kills my battery life or has more bigs than a cheap whore.

Samsung probably already gave the rom to T-Mobile. T-Mobile then adds their stuff like wifi calling, VoLTE, advanced messaging, etc, then once they're done testing it for stability they push it out. So really it's not just samsung were waiting on.
Nexus comes stock with it. Google gave T-Mobile the firmware long ago.
We probably won't get an update until the s7 comes out, or worse case scenario when the new note and edge plus come out....sad but true

That's what I figured too...they want to push people to buy new products, probably won't come out till two months the after release of the S7 I'm guessing.

Yes they may have the Firmware from Google for the nexus but that doesn't mean it works with Samsung's phone. They will still have to test the modem and make sure it works well on their network. Still need to test stability with the firmware from Samsung.

That is for the unlocked model. Also, T-Mobile needs to add bloatware and test, which would take a few months probably.
I can never understand why people care about these mediocre updates sometimes, that even breaks the phone at times. When it comes it comes as long as it comes within a 6- 8 months of google releasing it im fine. The software on this phone is excellent now.
Because a lot of these people live t update things. Just keep wanting to update and not satisfied with current things. Sad really.
The t-mobile visual voice-mail update to support android 6.0 is a good sign.

Even Samsung just updated apps M support. We'll just have to wait and see

Are you daft? The jump from L to M had a plethora of awesome features. And no, when all these other phones have M already it seems kind of ****ty that samsung, the biggest android phome manufacturer, is dragging behind like this.
