WTF happened to the 3-pin Verizon Car Dock - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have been waiting for the car dock with charging and audio capability since the day the phone launched. Does anyone have information as to whether or not it will be released and if so, when?
Thanks!
Mike

As far as anyone knows on here, its up in the air. We've seen a few import websites have them up for order, only to either cancel orders or to backorder them further. Our best guess is it has to do with the 4.0.4 update integrating the docking mechanism, etc. Also, it's probably not in Verizon's best interest to promote anything Galaxy Nexus oriented, they'd rather saturate the DROID branding and RAZR HD MAXX TURBO 7 much more.

Yeah nobody has any idea. I remember when the OG EVO launched, it took many months before HTC released the official car dock, and it was well worth it. Hopefully this is the case.

This is just my skeptical opinion but after owning a Samsung Captivate I have little faith in Samsung doing anything for their products after launch. They are all about making products that sell today. They aren't going to waste money perfecting this dock when they expect the Galaxy S III to make up the bulk of their upcoming sales.
If they had to sell the Galaxy Nexus, and there was no Galaxy S III, they'd have the dock out yesterday. I bet they have dedicated scant resources, which *might* be able to produce a solution *someday*, or never at all.
Anyways, that's just my cynical view. I don't trust Samsung to produce anything other than what I see directly in front of me. That's just their business model. If I know it ahead of time it is less frustrating. They aren't trying to build a reputation of supporting their products after launch like Apple does.
Here's to hoping the car dock bugs are simple to fix and a solution comes out soon!!

So, I called Samsung Accessory Support about 3-pin accessories for the VZW GNex

Crossposting from Reddit:
After speaking with three separate representatives, this is what I've learned:
1. Samsung Accessory Support cannot confirm or deny whether or not the docks for the GSM Galaxy Nexus will work with the VZW Galaxy Nexus.
2. They have not heard many direct requests for these types of docks from VZW Galaxy Nexus owners.
3. Samsung often will not produce certain accessories for a phone unless it believes that there is a demand to be met.
Apparently, we need to be more vocal if we actually want these. Would any of you be willing to contact Samsung and request these accessories, either for yourself or your fellow Nexus owners?
Send them an email: https://contactus.samsung.com/customer/contactus/formmail/mail/MailQuestionProduct.jsp?SITE_ID=1
-or-
Call their Accessory department: (800) 757-0280
Talking Points
Will a Desktop Stand and/or Vehicle Navigation Mount that supports 3-pin charging ever be released for the Galaxy Nexus i515?
Accessories similar to these are already available for preorder for the Galaxy Nexus i9250
The Vehicle Navigation Mount displayed on the Samsung and Verizon websites are nothing but glorified phone holders and do nothing to power the device.
The docks currently being offered for the i515 force the over-usage of the USB port, which can lead to equipment damage
Why exactly aren't the docks for the i9250 compatible with the i515?
Why are the contacts even on the side of the phone if nothing will ever be compatible with them?
Do your best, r/GalaxyNexus. Of course: be firm, but be polite.
Thank You
Just sent an email and will call tomorrow
I sent an e-mail to Samsung's customer service, expressing extreme displeasure with the following specifics regarding the VZW GN:
Different design in comparison to the GSM GN, resulting in car and mounts being incompatible with the VZW GN.
Presence of the 3-pins with absolutely zero devices to use them with. Potential wasted!
Fact that there were videos demonstrating how great the 3-pins are with accessories, and then not releasing accessories compatible with the VZW version of the GN.
Overall sense that I was duped into buying this product based on advertised merits that may or may not ever come to fruition with the VZW version, without knowing that the VZW version was not the same.
I also said that I was going to by a Sharp TV instead of the Samsung UN55C8000 55" LED-LCD I was eyeing (this was actually false; I already own the Samsung TV), and that this was my first Samsung phone and I have a heavy sense of disappointment due to the accessory issue and that it would probably be my last Samsung phone.
All they sent back was a generic reply asking me to call the accessories department. I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll try to call them this weekend.
I'm also not happy that Google dropped support for the VZW version, but I guess that isn't Samsung's issue and I didn't bring it up.
Maybe send them a link to the thread in this forum about the 3 pin car dock.

That's a fantastic idea. Anyone mind doing this? I've already had multiple exchanges with them.
wow, and here i was patiently waiting just assuming it was just taking them a while to get it produced and distributed. i didn't know they were waiting to find out if there was a demand.
silly samsung.
this is the one thing that i really do miss about my dx, moto makes kickass accessories for their phones.
emailed them just now
That's such bull crap.....You'd think they would estimate demand for accessories by sales of the phone, not by us emailing them
Not against the OP, but Samsung
Emailed them, but only because this thread is a x-post from r/Android.
Wow this is my first Samsung phone and it might be my last.....

It could be me, but something is wrong here.
How could they not think that customers in the states wouldn't want this?
Is the United States not huge on handsfree devices while driving?
Is there a larger demand elsewhere for the 3 pin docks?
I can do this all day, but you get my point. Come on Samsung, gotta do better than that.
Im calling in tomorrow, this is ridiculous!

Why send them a link to a thread, when the reviews on their site for the plastic dock speaks for itself?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECS-K1F8BEGSTA-reviews
I also sent a direct message to them through twitter, to no avail.
PS. I still find it interesting (if not hilarious) that the verizon website shows an overall 5 star rating for the NON-3-PIN dock, even though there are many negative reviews there.

Same here. In fact, I was the first one to leave a review on Verizon's site, giving it 1/5 stars overall. I was immediately astounded that my rating made no difference in the overall rating. What's the point of the ratings system if 1) its broken, or 2) they're blatantly lying about the results. The vast majority of those reviews are negative (and rightfully so).

I just called Samsung and I said "It's ridiculous that this phone doesn't have the official car mount 3 months after the release". I said "I'm having to hold the phone in my hand when driving and that's quite dangerous".
The Samsung rep replied "It's our obligation to make sure the phone works properly in your hand and it does, it's not our obligation to make sure it works in a car mount or anything other than your hand." I was shocked by that statement. I said "I guess you guys don't want to compete with apple then, they have a million accessories at release date.
I just emailed using the link provided, thanks.

Wow. This is the only thing I miss about my iPhone 4. So many accessories from so many brands you can open a few stores that sell nothing but Apple iPhone accessories. I mean they have a heart rate monitors for the iPhone. But yet we can't get a little plastic dock with 3 little pins for our desks or cars? Great Samsung.....

Oh that's rich. But they'll announce the accessories and allow me to make purchasing decisions based on those announcements.
This whole experience just confirms my past displeasure with their phones and that you can't trust Samsung for jack. I'm done with them.
At least Samsung can count on there never being demand for any accessories (or any of their products now) from me!

Official accessories for Verizon Nexus

The Galaxy Nexus was first released on Verizon but it seems there are not any really good accessories that take advantage of the pins or meant for Verizon phones to begin with...
Any suggestions...

I, like you, am fiending for some docks (desk and car). I love my phone...but "they" aka VzW really messed up this entire "Nexus" experience. I highly doubt they will EVER get a Nexus phone again!
Can't use any accessories (with pogo pins) unless you are on 4.0.4...but VzW is taking their sweet ol time with it.
One thing I loved about Moto...the accessory eco-system was plentiful. I've been dying to spend money on a horizontal dock for this thing...and Sammy has it for a minute and then it's sold out...SMH with a FacePalm!
When they are available...they are $90!!! Whatchu talkin bout Willis!
It looks like the accessories may start to be available stright off the Sammy site. There is that other 3rd party place the sells oem goods as well...the name escapes me atm.

[Q] GNex This Late In The Game

Hey everyone, just giving a quick thought whether or not I would be joining this section of the forum. More specifically I'm debating on purchasing a GNEX and I'm not sure if its worth it at this point, I hear a lot of talk about how people should wait until the next Nexus device and I'm wondering if its too late to buy one now. My purchase price would be about $365 locally, in mint condition (I cannot purchase from PLAY Store because I'm in Canada), and I'm wondering, should I just go ahead and buy it since I will be going to university next year and money will be tight when it comes to getting the latest and greatest Nexus device, plus I will be guaranteed updates with the GNEX. Also, JB has just smoothed things over significantly for dual core phones, which makes me want to look at a Nexus rather than a quad-core phone. Any insight would be appreciated, looking to make the deal for the Nexus tomorrow if I decide to!
Thanks!
Check out the several other threads that have been opened over the past two weeks asking basically the same question...

in your position with school and money and all i say go for it, i love mine.
Since you're on a tight budget due to going to college, this phone will probably be worth it to you. You just have to ask yourself if you're willing to stick with this phone even though you surely know another one will come out so soon. Also if you're interested in any other devices such as the Galaxy S3 keep in mind you are on a budget and dishing out a couple more hundreds for a device only slightly better wouldn't be worth it in my opinion. I say get the Galaxy Nexus now since despite it being more than half a year old but $365 seems quite steep for a Galaxy Nexus that's not new but in "Mint Condition".
buying and selling locally is a double edged sword, you can sell for a lot more, yet people think that their device is gold, going this route I'm saving shipping and roughly getting it at cost that the play store would provide, except for the fact that its not bnib, and I'm thinking that the new releases of Android that i will get, plus the development community will make the device new and refreshing every time i decide to make adjustments to it which is also persuading lol
I don't know if you have an update coming down the pipeline with your service provider, but if you do, I would wait. I would assume a LTE Nexus is in the works (as rumoured 5 nexus devices coming this year). If push comes to shove the current gnex is a wonderful option though. The HSPA+ gets me 7-10 down, 5 up in Pittsburgh. Those speeds are nothing to sneeze at, and will do for you what you need.

Galaxy S IV this Feb/Mid March.

Makes sense to me but they're toe dipping into the phablet sizes if this is true.
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2012/09/16/source_samsung_galaxy_s_iv_coming_in_february
Angered by the patent case that went against them in the U.S. against Apple, Samsung is said to be looking to make a strong statement by releasing the Galaxy S IV at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February in Spain.
A Samsung official, which asked to remain anonymous said frankly "Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at early next year's mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona."
The device is expected to hit consumer's hands by mid-March at the latest.
In the device, Samsung will use a 5-inch, flexible OLED display, the company's own Exynos processors and quad-core chips.

The timing is right. I hope they bring back UMS personally.
*edit*
So it turned out to be a rumor and the only part of the rumor that you count on to live on is expecting a galaxy S4 in 2013 (following previous release patterns) and maybe the 5" screen. At the same time I will say having Samsung " deny " the rumors at this time means sqwat. I don't know any company that confirms rumors so far in advanced.
**2nd edit**
So the source was very close to the release date as the device launched in April not March.

Thank gawd for Swappa!
I think it would be wise for samsung to wait till Q3 of 2013 to announce the galaxy s4.
They need to maximize s3 sales before announcing their next flagship.
wtttfffff :crying: 2 year contract should have waited
They come out with these phones to fast it is hard to keep up when one always wants newer and greater. Personally I really love the larger sized phones they fit my hands better. Well in a few months we should find out if the rumor is true.
I wonder what new innovation this phone will have. Let's face it Apple ain't innovating anything these days. But I don't don't like how they're making the display bigger anything 5 inches or bigger is to big imo.
That is highly doubtful. The iphone 5 is out and it wasnt impressive at all. It simply gave samsung the chance to sue apple for lte stuff used in the i- phone and magbe panorama mode and other stuff.

No they don't, they've already sold more than 20 million units.
I can see it being announced at MWC but I would highly doubt it would be available much sooner than the May/June like the S3. Also, no UMS wasn't a Samsung move it was a Google move.

No UMS is Samsung. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Samsung CLEARY has the ability to turn on UMS as they have done with their Note. I know for a fact because I have the T-Mobile Note that came with ICS stock out of the box and it has UMS in addition to MTP.
Its beautiful man, it works either way and both drives are available at any given time.
Anyways I hope Samsung turns the feature back on in the S IV.
IF you want to know what Google actually said about UMS look here:
http://www.t3.com/news/galaxy-nexus-usb-mass-storage-debate-google-says-no
Personally (and I'm not directing this at you-general statement) I'm tired of hearing people parrot (paraprhasing) "Google doesn't support UMS". Maybe this will wake people up and demand the manufacture (Samsung) to get its act together and add the feature back.
So if you buy a Nexus then you should not expect UMS. If you buy another device with a physical SD card and/or an additional slot then you should expect UMS.
Dying to have note 2 in my hands but now i'll wait and go for samsung galaxy s 4 ...
Leaking this rumor was most likely calculated by Samsung to get some attention away from Apple with the iphone around the corner.

Why is everybody so surprised? It's a yearly deal anyway... Plus whenever you buy one new phone the next new / better phone comes out pretty much right away... iPhone anyone??! That's how money is made... Samsung is not gonna bank on just one flagship device and a bunch of "knock offs" they gotta think ahead too. And we are just like iPhone users, we will buy the next big thing...
I'm sure that most of us keep our phones in very good condition and could easily sell them around that time for a decent price in order to pick up the S4 if "needed".

I keep my phones in great condition, but generally don't sell them, but give them away to family members, mostly under our family plan.
I have one upgrade remaining on my plan. Gonna see where this one ends up with the S4, and still interested in BB10.. I know call me crazy!
Honestly how much more can they pack in these things?
Also 5" is getting to big. Reason why I never went with the Note. Way to big foe a phone IMO.

I don't think I want a 5 incher. They are getting a little ridiculous. Leave the big screens to the note

I wont mind a 5" Screen as long as the Body does NOT get larger than the S3...
We all know its hard to stay on top of the latest Tech.
I do love that all my Iphone Friends are now Considering the s3 after the newest Iphone 5 "innovation"...
Definitely fake. Samsung does NOT release there big products at something like MWC.

I would not be surprised if they do this in all honesty, think of the money they would have saved if it was removable.
LG V20 is proof that you can make a phone stylish while still having a removable battery.
Waterproofing to me is a gimmick, I don't use phones in the tub or drop them in the toilet. It's pointless gimmick outside of those that might use it on boating trips and to take pictures under water.
As far as investing in a Samsung phone in the future why not? People don't get it when companies screw up like this they will work much harder to make sure this doesn't happen again. It's not like all of a sudden all future phones they make become improvised explosive devices.
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
Well, if there is no freebie involved, I won't be pre-ordering at full price anyway. I usually buy when there is some nice incentive to be had.
But the next Samsung Flagship will be the 5.0-5.5" range S8 (edge), probably with annoying SD 830. So I think I'll pass again.
I'm not pre-ordering anything anymore.
Also, Sammy was my preferred Android vendor. They've lost that status with me.
I'll consider future Samsung phones, but I will have pause due to this.

I think I'm done with Samsung. How can they mess up twice on their flagship phone. They might not even know why the phones are catching fire. How can I trust them again that the next phone I buy from them won't have some defect?
The hassle in setting up a new phone is bad enough. But I'm sure most of us have bought cases and screen protectors already. I even ordered mine from Amazon and I paid a lot to ship it to the Philippines.

2-3 months depending on how the reviews are but no less than 2 months. Of course this is also dependant on whether I buy a new phone this year to replace the Note 7 because I can't afford to buy a phone every year since I like to travel and buy other gadgets and such, nor do I see a need to do so. I'm good every 2 years at minimum but 3 years even works fine. Currently debating the overpriced Pixel XL (lack of micro sd sucks but unlimited full size picture storage helps alleviate that a little bit and just buy the 128GB) or the LG V20 since it will be the first to work with Wind's upcoming LTE band-66. Decisions decisions.
When you consider the range of really premium top rated products Samsung has launched over the past few years, why people are turning their backs on them now because of this, astounds me! The Note 7 is still a beautiful phone. It had an issue that could have happened to any other device out there whoever manufactured it . Look at the S7 line it's also stellar. The Gear VR and their smartwatches. And the S8 rumours point to something very innovative and unique on the way next year. So why cut your nose off to spite your face? You can't deny they have made some damn good phones.
They tried to fix the problem with the Note 7 and they eventually stopped production to do what was right for most people. Give them some credit. Stop playing into the hands of the media and the Apple fanboys, intent on bringing Samsung down. They certainly deserve another go.
Yet, after all those years, they can't make a phone that doesn't overheat (or lag for that matter). The focus is on the battery now, but that wasn't the only fault with the N7. I'm still mighty pissed of there is no flat version and that we are getting ignored in Europe most of the time. There is no high-end Samsung with a flat screen larger than 5,1"...
I'd wait about a couple of months, but I tend to do that with everything I buy... early adopting is not for me.
Will buy next flagship Samsung ASAP.... hopefully it will come with a Stylus but nonetheless i will buy and for the time being i m buying J7 prime or A8
I'm pre ordering the s8. I don't care what anyone says but the note 7 is the best phone of 2016. It's a shame it had to go out like that. I think Samsung did the right thing and I'm still down with them. For now...
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I voted for several weeks, but in reality it will totally depend on the situation. I cannot really answer with the options given.
I am not sure what I will do next, and I don't really want to go with an S if they're like the S7 or S7 Edge. My wife and I had both of those during the two week we waited for the Note 7 replacement and, well, for various reasons we didn't like them. If they come out with something like a Note, I may very well do a pre-order as soon as we're able to. But, again, it will totally depend on the situation. I may also wait some weeks or even months, or never even going back to Samsung if I find a phone that I like (so far, little chance for that, I'm going back to my Note 4 once I return my Note 7). I'm willing to take a look elsewhere, like the LG V20 or the Google Pixel XL, and if I like what I have with those, then Samsung wont see me back for some time.
I think for me, in reality, my decision will have little to do with what happened to the Note 7, but it's more like the total package. I fully realize this could've happened with any phone, just so happen to be this one. I don't mind going back to Samsung, but right now they don't have what I want, and when they do, I may not want to go back if I'm satisfied with something else.
From a news article... They might not even know what caused this. Who's to say future phones won't have the same problem
When several Samsung Galaxy Note 7 smartphones spontaneously exploded in August, the South Korean company went into overdrive. It urged hundreds of employees to quickly diagnose the problem.
None were able to get a phone to explode. Samsung’s engineers, on a tight deadline, initially concluded the defect was caused by faulty batteries from one of the company’s suppliers. Samsung, which announced a recall of the Note 7 devices in September, decided to continue shipping new Galaxy Note 7s containing batteries from a different supplier.
The solution failed. Reports soon surfaced that some of the replacement devices were blowing up too. Company engineers went back to the drawing board, according to a person briefed on the test process who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the internal workings were confidential. As of this week, Samsung’s testers were still unable to reproduce the explosions.
