I went to my local radio shack and best buy today to try and get a vibrant case. Radio shack had one lame rubber case and best buy had no vibrant accessories but had plenty of epic/captivate/fascinate stuff. Maybe tmo doesn't have a contract or something with best buy. When the biggest electronics retail chain doesn't carry accessories what does that say about about the long term prospects of the vibrant?
It frustrates me so much that t mobile never has accessories for their phones when they are just released or recently released. Verizon always has nice cases for every phone the day it comes out or within a couple weeks. I was hoping to find the best buy brand hard case for the vibrant but it doesn't exist.

That's not the point. They could easily order a case online, but the problem is that t-mobile doesn't push accessories like everyone wants, whether it be cases, docks, or whatever you can think of. Other mobile providers always have very nice showcase accessories which is a great benefit. For example, Verizon released a very sleek and nice kickstand case with the fascinate and I would really love to use it, however specs say they won't fit. It's just the principle behind it and you'd honestly expect a company to try and push accessories more anyways since thats a big money maker. Just my two cents.
Is it me or does it seem like Verizon is kind of sabotaging the Gnex in favor of the Rezound and RAZR? When I went into Best Buy today, they did NOT have the phone on display, and the only accesory they had was the ZAGG invisible shield. When I asked a salesperson did they sell out of them, they said they haven't heard much about the phone.
When I went into a Verizon store, there were all kinds of RAZR and REZOUND posters and accessories but NONE for the Gnex! It was sitting on the display with the Rezound and RAZR and that was it! I wanted to get a case and there were none.
Furthermore, I have not seen a single TV commercial for this phone while I ALWAYS see Rezound and RAZR commercials. Its almost as if Verizon does not want this phone to outsell the other two.
What are your thoughts on this?
I'm assuming that the "Droid" name carries a lot more weight with your average consumer and a much bigger paycheck from Motorola's marketing team.
I thought the same thing when I went into the Verizon location near my house to pick mine up. There were no advertising posters for the Gnex up at all. I also haven't seen any advertising for it anywhere else either. Come to think of it I haven't ever seen any TV adds for any nexus device they've always had bad marketing. It definitely seems that they don't want it to sell as well as the rezound or the razr.

You haven't seen the TV commercials? There have actually been a lot. They've been spending big money, putting GN commercials in NFL games too.
But are you surprised they're not pushing it as hard as the RAZR in store? The RAZR is an easy sell to anyone who's had a droid device before. Familiar interface etc. whereas the GN is new and different.

The nexus isn't a mass market device. That is part of the reason you don't see any major advertising for it.

Also, in Canada we do have gnex commercials from bell. But virgin mobile which is a bell owned provider still has iPhone 4s posters all over their stores

Must be by location. My Verizon store had a full display model out next to all the other 4g phones and I've also seen commercials for the phone. Website also had it on their front page with the scrolling deals.

I've seen TV commercials both in Chicago and in Dayton, Ohio.. I saw four yesterday actually. The Verizon stores in Chicago don't have nexus cases because they're all sold out..

The more "noobs" that use your phone, the more market share it gains which leads to popularity, demand, support etc. You want your phone to get a dock? There needs to be demand for it.

I saw a face unlock commercial with a kid sitting on the stairs, but the only other Google commercials I have seen lately were for Google+. There was a Beatboxing and a Bohemian Rhapsody commercial that had the Nexus in it, but I don't remember if it even mentioned the Nexus or focused more on Google+ Hangouts. I would like to have seen a lot more SGN/ICS commercials though for this phone launch just for the sake of accessories support (which only comes with device popularity i.e. the Droid line). I really want a horizontal dock for my nightstand. I saw it in a YouTube review from some .co.uk source, but I would really like to find it at the Verizon store so I can get my 30% discount.
The commercials I've seen for the GN are usually thrown in the middle of a generic Verizon lineup commercial with only 5 seconds of face time and no spec rundown. The one commercial I did see that places the GN in the center spot, Verizon portrayed the phone primarily as a google+ phone. No other attribute was given. Just gave the "circles" rundown in the social media app. If I didn't know anything about this phone and saw the commercial, I would of thought the GN to be a teenie-bopper phone. Primaily targeted to the early teen crowd.
I did notice a bunch of Nexus commercials during the Panthers game today.

Oh okay, must be region specific then. Ive seen the circles commercial where they were using face unlock but that was only once. But I always see that silly commercial for the rezound with the craptastic and overrated Beats by Dre.

Verizon store by me is definitely not pushing this phone. I went in the day it came out and it was in the back with no special display. IPhone is up front with huge display with razr setup right by it with its own display.
I also walked in with my GSM nexus version a week prior to them releasing it and most of the workers did not know anything about it. Stupid move on Google and Samsung to make it exclusive on Verizon as they suck. I am just glad that the GSM version was pentaband.

Verizon is BFF's with Motorola and their "Droid" lineup. So they are obviously going to push that ahead of everything else. As for the Rezound, beats a side, it is a great phone. Definitely a contendor for the Nexus(and the only contendor). Don't take it personal, that's just how Verizon does things(backwards, f'ed up).
i can see where the op is coming from but imo they want the iphone to sell over the others cuz the verizon stores ive been in look as if apple owns them (apple posters everywhere and ipad2 and iphone accessory stands on their own)
Crossposting from Reddit:
After speaking with three separate representatives, this is what I've learned:
1. Samsung Accessory Support cannot confirm or deny whether or not the docks for the GSM Galaxy Nexus will work with the VZW Galaxy Nexus.
2. They have not heard many direct requests for these types of docks from VZW Galaxy Nexus owners.
3. Samsung often will not produce certain accessories for a phone unless it believes that there is a demand to be met.
Apparently, we need to be more vocal if we actually want these. Would any of you be willing to contact Samsung and request these accessories, either for yourself or your fellow Nexus owners?
Send them an email: https://contactus.samsung.com/customer/contactus/formmail/mail/MailQuestionProduct.jsp?SITE_ID=1
-or-
Call their Accessory department: (800) 757-0280
Talking Points
Will a Desktop Stand and/or Vehicle Navigation Mount that supports 3-pin charging ever be released for the Galaxy Nexus i515?
Accessories similar to these are already available for preorder for the Galaxy Nexus i9250
The Vehicle Navigation Mount displayed on the Samsung and Verizon websites are nothing but glorified phone holders and do nothing to power the device.
The docks currently being offered for the i515 force the over-usage of the USB port, which can lead to equipment damage
Why exactly aren't the docks for the i9250 compatible with the i515?
Why are the contacts even on the side of the phone if nothing will ever be compatible with them?
Do your best, r/GalaxyNexus. Of course: be firm, but be polite.
Thank You
Just sent an email and will call tomorrow
I sent an e-mail to Samsung's customer service, expressing extreme displeasure with the following specifics regarding the VZW GN:
Different design in comparison to the GSM GN, resulting in car and mounts being incompatible with the VZW GN.
Presence of the 3-pins with absolutely zero devices to use them with. Potential wasted!
Fact that there were videos demonstrating how great the 3-pins are with accessories, and then not releasing accessories compatible with the VZW version of the GN.
Overall sense that I was duped into buying this product based on advertised merits that may or may not ever come to fruition with the VZW version, without knowing that the VZW version was not the same.
I also said that I was going to by a Sharp TV instead of the Samsung UN55C8000 55" LED-LCD I was eyeing (this was actually false; I already own the Samsung TV), and that this was my first Samsung phone and I have a heavy sense of disappointment due to the accessory issue and that it would probably be my last Samsung phone.
All they sent back was a generic reply asking me to call the accessories department. I haven't gotten around to it yet. I'll try to call them this weekend.
I'm also not happy that Google dropped support for the VZW version, but I guess that isn't Samsung's issue and I didn't bring it up.

Is the United States not huge on handsfree devices while driving?
Is there a larger demand elsewhere for the 3 pin docks?
I can do this all day, but you get my point. Come on Samsung, gotta do better than that.

Why send them a link to a thread, when the reviews on their site for the plastic dock speaks for itself?
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones-accessories/ECS-K1F8BEGSTA-reviews
I also sent a direct message to them through twitter, to no avail.
PS. I still find it interesting (if not hilarious) that the verizon website shows an overall 5 star rating for the NON-3-PIN dock, even though there are many negative reviews there.

Same here. In fact, I was the first one to leave a review on Verizon's site, giving it 1/5 stars overall. I was immediately astounded that my rating made no difference in the overall rating. What's the point of the ratings system if 1) its broken, or 2) they're blatantly lying about the results. The vast majority of those reviews are negative (and rightfully so).

I just called Samsung and I said "It's ridiculous that this phone doesn't have the official car mount 3 months after the release". I said "I'm having to hold the phone in my hand when driving and that's quite dangerous".
The Samsung rep replied "It's our obligation to make sure the phone works properly in your hand and it does, it's not our obligation to make sure it works in a car mount or anything other than your hand." I was shocked by that statement. I said "I guess you guys don't want to compete with apple then, they have a million accessories at release date.
I just emailed using the link provided, thanks.

This whole experience just confirms my past displeasure with their phones and that you can't trust Samsung for jack. I'm done with them.

This will be long, but would appreciate anyone taking the time to read it and answering some questions.
A bit of background: Came from a crappy carrier using a Blackberry. I actually loved the BB, hated the carrier so I made the move to T-Mobile and my first Android phone, the GS Vibrant.
Now there are some things I still think RIM/BB do well, I was instantly in love with Android and my new carrier... that is until the lack of support for the Vibrant in both software and accessories.
(Sad I'm reading all these threads of the 32G GSM variant being cancelled and accessories not being produced as well.... though not that it matters, there is still no mention of an official GSM variant to hit the US).
But anyways, I've had the Vibrant since launch, roughly 1.5 years ago. I've honestly felt like I've 'put up with' the Vibrant for the past year though. The thing has a beautiful screen and decent hardware, BUT it is very buggy and those bugs have bothered me. Being my first Android, I have not rooted the device nor flashed anything as if I did happen to brick it, I'm up the creek (or pop the sim in my BB to get basic functionality). So yea, I'm still rocking 2.2 baby!
Now I want to make the jump to the Galaxy Nexus. Out of all the phones I've seen, I think Samsung still has the best displays out there and being a computer guy, the possibilities of a Nexus phone might bring me back to my youth of picking apart my computers and all that sort of fun (and frustration LOL).
---
So, it looks like I will have to buy an imported GSM version unless something changes here in the next couple of months. I was really hoping an official GSM version would hit (or a T-Mobile variant) so I could get on contract etc, but whatever at this point.
What do I need to know or look for when getting a GSM Galaxy Nexus? What do I need to know after purchase having never owned a Nexus phone before? (ie: how and where do you get ICS updates? Directly from google?)
With the GSM import version, I assume it will work with my current Vibrant SIM? But will I get HSPA+ or will that require a new SIM?
I think those are all my questions for right now. I just think anything is better than the Vibrant at this point. I just don't know if I should get a Nexus now, wait till my contract is up in 5 months, or wait until the next Nexus phone hits.
As much as I like Samsung's displays and most of their hardware, I think the problem is over-saturation at this point. Seems a new Galaxy phone comes out every 6 months, and that doesn't include the dozens of other Samsung phones that come out every few months. It's no wonder a lot of their phones get dropped support.
Thanks to anyone for their input! Hoping by the end of March I'll get my hands on a Galaxy Nexus!
The Galaxy Nexus receives updates from either Samsung or Google. Despite what you may hear, it really doest matter who updates your phone. You need to know that not everyone gets updates at the same time but when they do, they are the same updates. The Galaxy Nexus will receive android updates for a LONG time so no worries there.
Your current SIM will work with a Galaxy Nexus as well! Good luck!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
galaxy nexus is a good choice. Especially if you want to stay up to date on your phone. If you dont plan on rooting and staying with stock everything, the nexus is your best bet to always be the first to get android updates.
As far as hardware wise, I think the samsung Galaxy S II is a great alternative as well. The dev community is wide for that phone so updates are just as common as some gnex users.
The ONLY thing i dislike about the gnex (CDMA) is the camera, but i can deal... plus i have my dslr and other point and shoot, that im too lazy to get sometimes.
I moved from BB a while ago as well, and its good that your moving to a "high end" android phone. I wouldnt put the vibrant under high end.
If you get the Nexus, your phone should come stock with 4.0.2 i believe. 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 is floating around, but if you just read some of the android news, or hang around the forums, you will definitely know when an OFFICIAL update is out.

Nothing except try to get it from a trustworthy source. It updates the same way as all other Nexus phones - OTA.
Yes it works on your Vibrant SIM and you get HSPA+ on T-Mo.
GSM is the network band; HSPA+ is the data speed aka 3G/3.5G - they are not really the same thing.
Thanks for the replies, everyone. Very much appreciated.
Right now I'm looking at Expansys, which I think is one of the names I keep hearing about getting the GSM version from. But I do have another question regarding Expansys for anyone who purchased from them:
How reliable are they? Are they selling actual boxed items? And what's in the box (I assume wall charger/usb cable)? I seriously almost pulled the trigger on it just now LOL.
I got my gsm version from expansys usa. It was top notch experience similar to a amazon experience. Sealed box brand new.
Same I ordered off of expansys-usa and it shipped same day and it was new, sealed box. It come's with a UK charger however, but it comes with an adapter in the package.
Ordered from Negri Electronics. Awesome service and the lowest prices right now.
It should work with any HSPA+ carrier's SIM just fine.
Thanks so much, everyone. Really appreciate all the help!
Hoping by mid-end of March I'll have one of these bad boys in my hands. Just waiting on tax return and possibly some birthday spending money. (Which that spending money WAS being saved for new furniture as I'm moving in April... but who needs a couch when you have a NEXUS! )
Ordered yesterday and shipped today (from Expansys-usa).
Now that THAT is out of the way... what are some of the better accessories for the GSM Nexus?
Items I know I want:
Screen protector
Silicone/Gel type case
Items on the fence:
Extended battery
Silicone/gel type case to fit extended battery
I'm assuming my wall charger and car charger for the Vibrant will work with the Nexus? Both are micro-usb.
I believe my car dock will fit the nexus fine (depending on button layout) and my armband should be ok as well, maybe a bit tight.
read reviews on accessories forums before buying screen protectors because gnex has a curved screen, i didnt know a curved screen made a big deal on dry applied screen protectors' edge and bought a lot that i ended up throwing away

I love the naked phone; no screen protector or gel case. Just wait until you see the screen. Having said that, I've got a couple of annoying scratches already. I'm used to them but the resale value is down.
Thanks for the replies.
Temporary have my old vibrant screen protector on it as I wait for the case/protector to arrive in the mail.
LOVE THE PHONE!
But I have another question. Either I'm missing something, or what, but is there no 'file manager' on stock ICS 4.0.2? I've emailed myself some files (mp3's and wav files for tones) and can't move them around w/o connecting to my computer.
Is this something that requires root access? Or do I need an app or other third party apk to have a sort of 'file manager'?

As far as anyone knows on here, its up in the air. We've seen a few import websites have them up for order, only to either cancel orders or to backorder them further. Our best guess is it has to do with the 4.0.4 update integrating the docking mechanism, etc. Also, it's probably not in Verizon's best interest to promote anything Galaxy Nexus oriented, they'd rather saturate the DROID branding and RAZR HD MAXX TURBO 7 much more.
Yeah nobody has any idea. I remember when the OG EVO launched, it took many months before HTC released the official car dock, and it was well worth it. Hopefully this is the case.
This is just my skeptical opinion but after owning a Samsung Captivate I have little faith in Samsung doing anything for their products after launch. They are all about making products that sell today. They aren't going to waste money perfecting this dock when they expect the Galaxy S III to make up the bulk of their upcoming sales.
If they had to sell the Galaxy Nexus, and there was no Galaxy S III, they'd have the dock out yesterday. I bet they have dedicated scant resources, which *might* be able to produce a solution *someday*, or never at all.
Anyways, that's just my cynical view. I don't trust Samsung to produce anything other than what I see directly in front of me. That's just their business model. If I know it ahead of time it is less frustrating. They aren't trying to build a reputation of supporting their products after launch like Apple does.
Here's to hoping the car dock bugs are simple to fix and a solution comes out soon!!
