Galaxy S IV this Feb/Mid March. - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Makes sense to me but they're toe dipping into the phablet sizes if this is true.
http://www.afterdawn.com/news/article.cfm/2012/09/16/source_samsung_galaxy_s_iv_coming_in_february
Angered by the patent case that went against them in the U.S. against Apple, Samsung is said to be looking to make a strong statement by releasing the Galaxy S IV at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) event in February in Spain.
A Samsung official, which asked to remain anonymous said frankly "Samsung is ready to unveil the next Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S4, at early next year's mobile world congress (MWC) in the Spanish city of Barcelona."
The device is expected to hit consumer's hands by mid-March at the latest.
In the device, Samsung will use a 5-inch, flexible OLED display, the company's own Exynos processors and quad-core chips.

The timing is right. I hope they bring back UMS personally.
*edit*
So it turned out to be a rumor and the only part of the rumor that you count on to live on is expecting a galaxy S4 in 2013 (following previous release patterns) and maybe the 5" screen. At the same time I will say having Samsung " deny " the rumors at this time means sqwat. I don't know any company that confirms rumors so far in advanced.
**2nd edit**
So the source was very close to the release date as the device launched in April not March.

God. I just got this damn phone...

Thank gawd for Swappa!

I think it would be wise for samsung to wait till Q3 of 2013 to announce the galaxy s4.
They need to maximize s3 sales before announcing their next flagship.

wtttfffff :crying: 2 year contract should have waited

They come out with these phones to fast it is hard to keep up when one always wants newer and greater. Personally I really love the larger sized phones they fit my hands better. Well in a few months we should find out if the rumor is true.

I wonder what new innovation this phone will have. Let's face it Apple ain't innovating anything these days. But I don't don't like how they're making the display bigger anything 5 inches or bigger is to big imo.

That is highly doubtful. The iphone 5 is out and it wasnt impressive at all. It simply gave samsung the chance to sue apple for lte stuff used in the i- phone and magbe panorama mode and other stuff.

No they don't, they've already sold more than 20 million units.

I can see it being announced at MWC but I would highly doubt it would be available much sooner than the May/June like the S3. Also, no UMS wasn't a Samsung move it was a Google move.

No UMS is Samsung. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn't know what they're talking about. Samsung CLEARY has the ability to turn on UMS as they have done with their Note. I know for a fact because I have the T-Mobile Note that came with ICS stock out of the box and it has UMS in addition to MTP.
Its beautiful man, it works either way and both drives are available at any given time.
Anyways I hope Samsung turns the feature back on in the S IV.
IF you want to know what Google actually said about UMS look here:
http://www.t3.com/news/galaxy-nexus-usb-mass-storage-debate-google-says-no
Personally (and I'm not directing this at you-general statement) I'm tired of hearing people parrot (paraprhasing) "Google doesn't support UMS". Maybe this will wake people up and demand the manufacture (Samsung) to get its act together and add the feature back.
So if you buy a Nexus then you should not expect UMS. If you buy another device with a physical SD card and/or an additional slot then you should expect UMS.

Dying to have note 2 in my hands but now i'll wait and go for samsung galaxy s 4 ...

Leaking this rumor was most likely calculated by Samsung to get some attention away from Apple with the iphone around the corner.

Perhaps samsung is using the tick tock cycle s1(somewhere in may I suppose) s2(feb) s3(may) s4(feb) otherwise it's too early to release another product this magnitude

Why is everybody so surprised? It's a yearly deal anyway... Plus whenever you buy one new phone the next new / better phone comes out pretty much right away... iPhone anyone??! That's how money is made... Samsung is not gonna bank on just one flagship device and a bunch of "knock offs" they gotta think ahead too. And we are just like iPhone users, we will buy the next big thing...

I'm sure that most of us keep our phones in very good condition and could easily sell them around that time for a decent price in order to pick up the S4 if "needed".

I keep my phones in great condition, but generally don't sell them, but give them away to family members, mostly under our family plan.
I have one upgrade remaining on my plan. Gonna see where this one ends up with the S4, and still interested in BB10.. I know call me crazy!
Honestly how much more can they pack in these things?
Also 5" is getting to big. Reason why I never went with the Note. Way to big foe a phone IMO.
Sent from a galaxy far away!

I don't think I want a 5 incher. They are getting a little ridiculous. Leave the big screens to the note
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2

I wont mind a 5" Screen as long as the Body does NOT get larger than the S3...
We all know its hard to stay on top of the latest Tech.
I do love that all my Iphone Friends are now Considering the s3 after the newest Iphone 5 "innovation"...

Definitely fake. Samsung does NOT release there big products at something like MWC.

E4gt future proof

So I'm thinking of getting this phone with my soon-to-expire premier program upgrade (especially since it looks like we wont see galaxy nexus before the end of december), and I want to be sure this thing will stay satisfying for two years.
Primarily, I want to avoid issues the epic 4g has: limited (although what there is is extremely dedicated) dev support and lack of cm/miui that keeps the phone stuck at outdated os iterations (which is mostly sammy's fault anyway).
What im asking is, is this phone a dev darling and do they promise to love it for ever, even after samsung abandons it in 8 months?

There is no such thing on the market. Once this phone stops getting Android updates, the community will have no choice but to dump it for the next newest. It'll probably be able to drive your car, have sex with your wife, and make banana pancakes. How will you be able to coerce a developer away from such a dream phone when all you have to offer him/her is a beat up old 2011 E4GT to work on? You just have to let nature take it's course. Buy the phone for what it does now or always ask that same question: "Should I wait for the next one or get this one now?"
which ROM makes Banana Pancakes?
Mine only makes Buttermilk.....
Premier program upgrade expires 12/31/12 you have a good year and two months to make a decision.

Your Premier upgrade doesn't expire in December. You have all of 2012 to use it.
If you were thinking you could have gotten one additional 11-12mo upgrade cycle, that would have needed to be done by 10/1/2011.
When it comes to electronics, nothing is future proof!
The SGS2 is a great phone today and while it might not be the top of the line in a few months it will still be able to handle it's own.
There is one thing I am jealous of with the Galaxy Nexus, and that is the HD screen. If the SGS2 would have had an HD screen, it would be right up there with the GN. I do not count ICS because the SGS2 will eventually get it. If the GN only had a qhd screen I don't think I would care as much....Seems almost like qhd screens didn't stay around as the top dog for to long. Guess the lower end devices will be going qhd while top end goes 720p to compete.
The point is well taken that there's no such thing as a future-proofe phone. I should have qualified that I am asking if this phone appears likely to enjoy EVO or HD2-like developer love. I was spoiled with cm-support on the G1 and I want to recapture those possbilities with my next phone.
I was on the phone with Sprint for an hour and a half talking about my upgrade status and they repeatedly told me it would expire on Dec 31, 2011. I guess I'll call again and ask again. I don't know what to trust anymore. If I get another year I'll be extatic.

Add ICS and a 720P screen to our SGS2 and you have yourself a phone that is equal to or better then the GN. We will get ICS whether it be official or not, so that will really even the playing field. So our phone is future proof until you start seeing quad core phones come out and well as Sprint LTE phones. But I would say you are good for at least the next year to year and half with the SGS2.
When the specs for the SGS3 get dropped, I am betting that will be a game changer and Samsungs flagship phone, not the Nexus.

IMO, dual core SOCs and 1GB RAM are the major milestone for smartphones. Quad cores will improve benchmarks, but probably not much else. Cutting edge OS is what's important to me now, which the GN covers nicely

Not quite. We don't have NFC or a barometer, either. The lack of NFC means we can't use Google Wallet or Beam... ever, and the barometer means slower GPS locks and we can't use any other aps that take advantage of it.
I don't quite understand why Sprint had Samsung remove the NFC chip... it's the only GS2 variant that doesn't have one, and aside from LTE, that's the newest feature everyone is jumping on lately.
This phone will have a lot of life in it, but it's not future proof.
The nexus has a cheap pentile display. Go with the epic touch you won't regret it. And it has a sa+ display!

I really enjoyed the support out there for my EVO 4G, and was a little disappointed at the lack of options out there right now for my shiney new E4GT (not complaining, stating a fact, back off flamers)
However, read through the forums for the other variations of the SGS2 and you can see it's out there for them. I just think Sprints baby is a little late to the party, but is going to get it's fair share of cake. Read through some of the Developer posts and there is news popping up fairly regularly about test builds of CM7 and MIUI...
I am getting closer and closer to getting this. I just know a week after I do the galaxy nexus will be announced for sprint.

I'll be honest, this is my first android phone (epic touch 4g), but I have been tinkering with anything that draws power since I was a little guy ripping apart old stereo receivers and what not! Sure, something with some more bang is bound to come out in the next few months or so; but in my opinion, a device with the capabilities exhibited by this phone are not going to be overlooked anytime soon! Some people may dump the phone and grab whatever is better on the market at that time, but dev is not going to halt for this phone anytime soon as far as I can tell. Even before getting this phone I've done lots of research on android phones and spoken to friends that have owned such, and this is phone definitely marks a milestone in my opinion. Sure it has its bugs, I get LoS once a week or so; but despite its flaws (which will be resolved by the manufacturer or else!) it is a great phone and will serve any user well for YEARS! Hell, I had a Blackberry 8330 for a few years, wasn't anything special by any means at all but with some TLC and mods it was a great phone for as long as I had it. The ET4G should last a Looooooong time...
Edit: I also wanted to say, to those who were saying things about the Galaxy Nexus coming out for Sprint. Sure you may be able to the phone with Sprint in the very near future, but is it not quite similar to the ET4G? Really I guess it depends on preference and such. From what I've read and heard, though...the phones are not THAT much different so I guess whatever feel you like best is what you should get! Cheers!

S3 now or waiting for S4?

I am up for a new phone with my provider.
So I am wondering should I get the S3 now or should I wait for the next phone from Samsung.
I read abotu rumors that the S4 might be pulled up to go on sale with the iPhone 5.
Though based on track recrod I doubt to see a S3 successor prior to July 2013 (if not later).
Currently I have a Samsung Infuse (AT&T) and I am quite happy with it.
What are your thoughts?
No way will an S4 be released along side the iPhone 5. It's still a ways off I'm sure. Just get the S3, you won't regret it.

You should always upgrade ASAP when on a subsidized carrier like AT&T. Every month you delay is money down the drain because your current phone is "paid off", yet they don't reduce your monthly bill to reflect that.
Upgrade to the S3, and either sell your old one on ebay, or keep it as a backup.
Had the S2 and kicked the idea around for a bit. Man I'm so glad I went and bought the S3 out right. Sold the S2 on amazon and haven't regretted it once. If the S4 somehow resurrects the lord Jesus Christ back onto earth I'll snag it as well. I'm not really sure what the game plan for Samsung is next year.

Exactly, I had a skyrocket which is not much different from the S3. But I upgraded to the S3 and man what a difference it is in terms of software. Lots of great new things that I couldnt get even with the S3 roms on the skyrocket. Really good decision for me. And just like the other user said, you should get the S3 since your bill doesnt reduce. The S3 had all the features that I wanted in the skyrocket. HD screen and LED notification light. But I just had to get the skyrocket I couldnt stand my iphone anymore.
If you wait for the next greatest and latest thing you'll always end up waiting. When the s4 comes out you can always sell your s3 for some descent change and come within $300 of buying the s4 with no contract more than likely.

Not exactly true, if you are the first line on the account, your upgrades come earlier. For example, I am the first line in our account and get a yearly upgrade because of it. I get the 2-year price for a 1-year contract.
The phone is a great one. Top of the line specs, great size, and thinness make it so much better to hold. My only problem with the phone is the heating and that stupid home button.
Once you get past that though, it's really great!

I went from the Infuse to a S3, its a night and day difference... Put JB on it and its even faster.. Well worth the upgrade.
s3 since day one, will upgrade to iphone september, will get the new nexus device december and s4 april or when ever its released therefore keeping 3 updates a year!
I would get the SIII. The phone is sick and so fast when running JB. It is the best phone ever IMO. You would not regret getting this phone.

Xda members are so savvy! I love all the talk about selling your old phone and paying the difference for the new one. It usually works out to paying less than the $199 new contract price. And when you're actually up for renewal, you actually make money selling the old phone since you dont have to pay full price and the new one is only $199! I've been doing this for years. I never keep a phone too long because its not worth much later. So definitely get the s3, then if you want the iPhone 5 or note 2 or whatever, sell the s3 and buy your next gadget. Waiting two years is for suckers!!!

My contract is up and my upgrade is now in full effect. I currently have the nexus s 4G and the nexus tablet so needless to say i am a fan of the nexus line. That being said my contract is up and i am really looking at getting the SIII. I wanted to hold out for the next Nexus, but after seeing the S3 and its specs I couldn't wait any longer. Granted, I was sick of the horrid camera on my EVO 3D, but I still feel like whatever the Nexus has for specs will be pretty comparable to the S3. If you have more willpower than I do, it might be worth waiting. If you can't wait, the S3 is fantastic. (Ignore my posts about battery life - I'm pretty sure I'm at fault and I haven't figured out why. )

right.... so the number 1 selling cellphone company in the world is going to stop because of Apple.. The only thing I see coming from this is Samsung will stop help making the Iphone 6 when it comes out next year (Not the Iphone 5 coming in a few weeks).. Which I think has already been confirmed..

Calm down man. I guess I should have put some smileys. My comment was purely sarcastic in the sense of being disgusted in the outcome of the lawsuit. Opinion is opinion, not fact. I sincerely hope it doesn't come to this but as I read somewhere, it wouldn't hurt Samsung to stop making cell devices as their profits can come from their many other products.

the S III is a good phone. matter of fact it's a really, really good phone but nothing gets the development that a nexus gets. chances are the new nexus will have specs equal to or slightly better than the S III. you could have the best of both worlds by waiting.
Wait. Although this phone is still new to date there isn't much AOSP development. With out that this phone is nice but.... TouchWiz other than bells and whistles makes this phone, slow. I have had cm10 and aokp on this device and it's a totally different animal. I guess I understand why people like TouchWiz but it really takes away from this phones true potential. Just really depends on whether you want a phone based on performance or one based on glitz and glam. I would not be surprised to see a quad core in the next nexus with the 4G lte chips becoming available. Something else to consider.

The nice thing about TW phones is you have the choice...you can always put AOSP on here, but you couldn't go vice versa on a Nexus phone. If you despise TW that much, then you wouldn't want it anyway, but there's no question the Galaxy series phones ALWAYS have the best hardware when made. You can always change software, but you can't really change the hardware.
The biggest question in my mind is will the next Nexus have the new A15 processor. If it does, it'll be a mighty big upgrade. If not, it won't be that impressive from a hardware standpoint, maybe up to par with what the SIII already has, but six months later.
New processor tech like this only comes out maybe once every three or so years I believe. If the Nexus has a dual A15, it'll smoke anything else out without a shadow of a doubt. Then I think some people, myself included, would be a little bummed about getting the SIII when we did. Heck, I had my upgrade for a year and a half before I finally got the SIII, and I'm glad I did. This phone is freaking awesome, but my only disappointment was it didn't come with the A15.
The other thing is will they release a new Nexus without a new OS? I don't think they can possibly release another OS this fall. I think like 60 some percent of phones are still running Gingerbread which would mean those phones are running three version old software. Not exactly an ideal situation for Google in my opinion.

Remember there's hundreds of android products around the world from high end to low end. These things simply just take time. Remember when froyo was the majority and gingerbread was the minority? Well look it now. And also alot of older phones just dont have the right processing power/hardware to run ics properly

[Q] GSIII or Nexus 4?

So, for the past while now I have been looking for a replacement phone for my G2 (which sadly now has a broken screen, I have been using screencast to operate the phone for weeks now. However I can still answer the phone normally when called without the need for a computer system thanks to easy memory.)
Since my upgrade is already available I do not know if I should try to get the GSIII or the LG Nexus 4 (god willing if it actually comes to T-Mobile). I want a phone that will last the time needed for me between now and my next upgrade in 2 years. (I am not fortunate enough to buy off contract, if I did this would be entirely irrelevant.) While the GSIII offers the popular end and will probably get the best AOSP for a damn good long time, I also find a great appeal over the LG Nexus 4 being able to get stock updates on the fly upon release, while I would still consider AOSP for the Nexus 4 because of the added options as well.
Basically it comes down between the two and what is the best choice when it comes right down to quality + support + longevity over the next 2 years. I know a lot can happen within that timeframe, but I do not want to be forgotten so soon like I was with the G2. Plus I want to be able to have an absolutely wonderful experience with customization with little limitations.
I know its foolish to consider the Nexus 4 considering that its not officially out yet nor do we know it will be offered by T-Mobile US. I also know that even with a top of the line phone there will always be something better around the corner that will topple mine. Finally I know that the focus of the AOSP community will shift on to other projects while whichever one I choose now will not remain the prime focus forever.
I just want a phone that will get me as far as I can between my 2 year cycle. Growing with a "pure" experience with the G2, soon followed by AOSP and after that AOKP. I want to be able to get the same (or hopefully, MUCH BETTER) experience out of that, I have no problem rooting (hell I remember the days when the G2 was damn near "impossible" to root) and if anything I would probably end up rooting my phone as soon as I get it in my hands.
The only limitations right now between these two and me is my patience, and the luck that the Nx4 will come out on T-Mobile. Again, with my current situation with my G2 I do not have much time left to decide. I have been waiting long enough and with most of the information we have on both of these devices that I am looking at I think it can be time to consider which one I rather get.
So which one should I consider getting? Should I try waiting out longer for the Nexus 4 or should I go for the GSIII now?
I'll read fully next time. But for now no, LG has the worst reputation in tge cell phone industry if you ask me and alot of other LG users.

I seriously never get it whats the point of asking some strangers what phone should i get lol...it is widely known that lg sucks sony sucks htc is good but not dev friendly so the only choice left for me would be sammy
The nexus 4 won't even come to T-Mobile. There, problem solved.

I never buy on contract. I also never buy a new phone. I bought a slightly used SGS3 for $350 on craigslist. A year from now, I'll sell it for $200 and buy the SGS4 (or whatever I'm interested in at the time). Saves a lot over the life of the phone. $20/month cheaper for the plan, $240/year savings, and I'm only putting out $150 for a phone every year. So I get a new slightly used phone every year and still save money.
Look for a decent SGS3 on craigslist and buy it.
While I am aware that the history with LG has been mixed (and shall I say down right horrible with T-Mobile) The most of the issues resided over software and not hardware. Plus since the LG nexus 4 is a nexus device it should be obvious that it will be Google handling the updates, not LG nor T-Mobile.
That said I have done some personal analysis on both and came to the conclusion that while the LG Nexus 4 does seem attractive in both what is on board and the software distribution, the GSIII will probably have the higher end of LTS for some time. Even if the GSIV would to come out sometime next year the GSIII would still get popular support regardless due to the many people who own one and are locked with one until their contract is up. Plus The GSIII has no signs of slowing down even with the Note II on the rise. If another nexus handset would come out the LTS for it would be a gamble depending if people will take to the Nexus 4 with open arms compared to the previous devices. Not only that but even in accessory appeal as well the GSIII outdoes the Nexus brand as a whole.
I was considering the Nexus 4 because of its Quadcore processor and pure google experience on the fly. Even with all that updated more so than the SIII, however the SIII will win in the end with better support thanks to its incredibly large community.
I think I will go for the GSIII now! Tell me, before this thread becomes entirely useless can someone tell me which best route I should go when I get this? I am not one for skinned UI, I can get used to it but I prefer to not deal with bloat and lag when I can get the most out of this device.
Nexus won't have bloat, but there is no lag in the s3 with stock.
I was in the exact same position, minus the broken screen, and I decided to pick up the galaxy s 3 for now and see what the new nexus has to offer when it gets here. I figure I can sell the gs3 pretty easily if I really want the nexus, and if not, I still have a great phone.
I can only tell you that I'm extremely happy with my gs3 but I continue to keep an eye on nexus rumors.

I think it is foolish to think the Nexus 4 may not have a large developer community.
The next Nexus is pretty much guaranteed to have large dev support. The device itself may be made by LG, but everything software wise is handled through Google so there's no issue there and with a large developer community you'll have AOSP options as CM, AOKP, etc. If you're worried about hardware defects (every phone has a few, it's just a matter of getting lucky and getting the one with the least amount of defects) then wait a couple weeks to see what people say such as the display having issues, dust getting inside the screen, etc. The phone specs itself already beats the S3 in every way, but I'm pretty sure it'll be Google handling sales directly again with the GSM model so if you're looking to renew your contract to get the phone cheaper, the S3 is pretty much your best choice
Wait for the note 2

Brilliant plan.
As for OP, I wouldn't be so faithful in the Nexus 4 coming to T-mobile.
From your story, it seems that you need a working phone right now.
I'd just go with the SGSIII, the community behind it is very strong.
Use CM10 to get the stock experience, the CyanogenMod team is very good with updates.
However, if the rumors turn out be be true, the possibility of multiple Nexus devices means that one can be a T-mobile variant.
I'd wait for the official Google announcement when they have their event on October 29th.
The Galaxy Nexus will probably be getting a price cut sometime soon. It seems like a worthwhile update to me.

I think LG's reputation is a little skewed IMO. At the same time only LG has themselves to blame for on that one. But let's think of why LG has a bad rep fist before we completely count out the LG Nexus 4. Basically they have a bad rep because of their failure to provide the necessary drivers for devs (ala G2x) or just plain out suck at updating their devices.
But their quality on their devices is very very good. I had a G2x and the build quality of that phone was outstanding IMO. The screen was great, the over all build was nice and I loved everything about it. Only thing that sucked balls was it's software and bad updates.
So now if you combine LG's good build quality plus Google handling the software side? I think it's a win win situation!
So to the OP, it really depends if you wanna wait or not. I have a Galaxy Nexus and I'm loving owning a Nexus, the fact that I get updates right on the spot and on time is awesome. So I'll say to wait for the LG Nexus, but if you can't wait, the SIII is perfectly fine as well.
Good luck dude.
Almost in the same boat as you,
still doubting between S3 and the Note 2,
For me the nexus isn't interesting because the battery is not replaceable and no storage cards.
The only thing keeping me from saying not 2 for sure is that the phone is rather big
Non removable battery on the nexus is a deal killer. I've pulled the battery 100 times on every phone I've ever had. Helpful when you get a boot loop flashing eye candy

If in boot loop I'm almost positive you just hold the power button wait for a vibrate then hold button combo to boot into recovery. Used to do it on past phones, sure it works on this phone even, just don't get boot loops is another way to avoid that dilemma.

S4 that big of an upgrade?

How big of an upgrade is the American s4 over the at&t s3 I already have. Wait for something else or upgrade?
I value your opinions.

Wait, too many gimmick features. You notice they only spent two minute on the specs and 50 minutes on features? Unless if something bad happen to your s3 or you got cash to waste I say wait. The specs not that impressive beside the s3.

Not worth of an upgrade imo. I'll be sticking with my gs3 until gs5 comes out.
the S4 was meant for 2 categories of people:
1. a percentage of smartphone users that have heard of the galaxy model's success and are eager to transcend their mediocre non-flagship HTC, Motorola, LG 2-year contract freebie phones
2. the 30+ million Galaxy S2 users that are, coincidentally, nearing the end of their 2-year contracts.
that's an almost instant 50 million users that will adopt/upgrade to the S4
The one thing which kills it from being a good update is the Very similar design to S3 , secondly we agree that it has upgraded specs but it is more of an S3 and Note II Hybrid, and as far as i guess, people here will agree.

+1 on the second one. Only S3, even with nice heavy apps, I find my second core sleeping most of the time So for people on S3 its worth the wait for S5.

I can imagine quite a few of them gimmicks will also come with the GS5 and then some. I'll probably join the next crowd of users, the 2014 crowd of s3 users whose 2 year contracts expire.
So many thanks to you all. I knew I would get the truth here.
Thanks my friends.

Also just so you know, there is a new sticky called "Off-topic other device and upgrading phone discussion" in the General section so that this site will not get bogged down in the next few months about this same topic, which will be discussed many times.
Also, don't forget that Samsung did confirm that some of the software features(hardware willing) will come to the S3. Makes the decision not to upgrade even easier for me.

While that sounds great and all, AT&T will most likely ruin it even if they do let us have it. I am not getting my hopes up...hence the reason why I have rooted and started using custom ROMs. I like updates...and the lack of bloatware. Not to mention I can make the device truly mine...not how the carriers and the manufacturers think I should use my phone or that their stuff is what I really want.
Yes I agree but we are all on Xda because we stick it to the man(ATT). We get our updates from the great developers of xda and im sure once the next "premium suite" upgrade comes around, it will be ported to a custom TW rom in no time.
my s2 just failed and my upgrade is in August. but Asurion gave me a new s3 as a replacement, and i can still upgrade in August if i want. but forget the s4. only the screen has my attention. I'll be watching the Nexus and Experia lines until the s5 comes out.

The screen is the only thing that I'm interested in to be honest. Hell on my gs3 I'm running tasks AOKP so all the features on the s4 would probably disapear when I'm sure I'd eventually jump to AOSP once android 4.3 or whatever comes out.
The HTC One's screen is supposed to be amazing and I like how HTC sorta changed their design and ideology, I won't get one regardless.
I do like the fact of the larger battery(2,600mHw if I'm not mistaken)compared to our 2,100 I believe, because I love the fact my Galaxy Note 2 will last me 2, sometimes 3 days easily with battery to spare.
I must admit that I'm torn. I upgrade to the successor in the Galaxy S series yearly, but this year I'm leaning toward to HTC One. Samsung failed in releasing a phone which is pretty much the same as its previous years iteration. There is no true upgrade besides the screen size and resolution that of which 75% of humanity can't discern the difference. They're not Apple. They aren't in control of their OS like Apple which has no competition in hardware within iOS. That's why an incremental upgrade works for Apple. Android on the other hand has many different options and premium hardware to compete within the same OS, so Samsung basically telling customers that all you're getting is a few gimmick features and besides that this phone is really a Galaxy S3, will come back to bit them in the ass.

While this is true for those of us who know about these things and actually pay attention to details, Samsung is banking on everyone else (which is the majority). Also if they just quit making S3s and focus on S4s then soon, there will be no S3 phones available new and people will buy the S4 due to no other alternative. It is just trying to utilize their "cash cow" line.
