I like to root my mobile just to use some rooted apps not to install Rom. And my doubt is if root my mobile will I stop getting update from HTC?

if you root your mobile, then i assume you'd also install a custom rom. if you then reinstall htcs update, you'll lose, rendering the whole root process pointless in the first place.
once you've installed a custom rom, wait for the custom rom developer to release the update, and then update to that instead.
i just noticed you said you wouldn't install a custom rom. but anyways, if you then update to htcs rom, you'll still lose root.

Ive rooted my phone, and now would like tto put back on the same rom that came with the phone, but keep root. Is that possible? if so which rom is it?
Thx
you can only ever install a rooted rom, if you do not then you will lose your root.
so if you install your unrooted stock rom then yes you will lose your root.
the stock rooted rom is the generic htc rom, it would be the rom that came with the phone only with root access.
yeh i know thats y im using modaco, but i wondering if there was a clean rom based off the main one?
modaco custom rom, i think its at r3.1
a cleaned up and improved version of the generic htc rom, currently using it now and is flawless
you can find it in the development section
have a problem where my widgets dont add themselves to the widget screen using that rom for some reason
thats definitely not a common issue with the rom
make sure you wipe cache/data before installing the rom
Unroot (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=6710092&postcount=4, near the end or the video tutorial at the end of the first post)
Then just follow the normal steps for root access, without flashing a new ROM once you're done.
Hey john does that still give me root access for apps such as titanium etc?
I need to know before rooting my desire. If i go the Rooting way, will the HTC Sense ROM still be there after rooting and will recovery mode still function?I have to be sure cos im not too familiar with all these android programming stuff. This is my first android phone and i get confused when i see different methods of rooting, flashing Roms and other stuff. Thanks Could you pls direct me to the most useful step by step instrution for rooting and keeping HTC sense
Yes use Unrevoked 3 to root. It will install a custom recovery and the stock rom is still there but you have root permissions now.
once rooted, will you still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC onto the phone?
i've rooted my originally unlocked and unbranded desire but would like confirmation that i'll still be able to install an official OTA update from HTC when the new improved version of Froyo has been by them. Thanks
nope you won't, use one of modified rom's.

You will not be able to install an official OTA update unless you un-root. There are a no of modified Roms out there which apparently are basically rooted versions of Froyo....so if you install one of these you pretty well get your cake and eat it, i.e. you will have installed a version of Froyo which is almost OTA pristine but is rooted. I understand the neophyte Rom is one of these, as is this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=741775
I can confirm you will need to manually update after doing this
if iupdate with the OTA
will all, my custom ROM features be gone?
AFAIK you should never update with OTA if you are using a custom rom.
hmm.. iwas just wondering
If you are rooted, and accept an OTA, you will lose root. So no, don't do it.
The OTA will remove root, your custom ROM, etc. etc. etc. and put you at stock 2.3.3, and in order to root that you will have to downgrade back.
Simply put, if you're rooted, flash a pre-rooted OTA ROM, or keep your custom ROM or one of the many based on the new 2.3.4 OTA's. Get all the features and won't lose root.
yea ijuss wanted to knoe what would happen
I've been rooting and modding my phones since

If you want to update to a ROM based on the OTA, but keep root, you can flash one of the many Pre-rooted OTA builds in the dev section. Or you can always flash a different custom ROM thats based on 2.3.4 also.
I want to unlock, root and busybox my HOX will i still be able to get OTA updates?
Instructions on how to root etc can be found here
You could, flash custom recovery, flash su.zip to enable root access on Stock ROM, then flash stock recovery, you will still receive OTA updates but you will probably lose your ROOT if you updated.
Any Reason you want to stay with Stock ROM?
I came from HD2 so im used to custom roms, but its kind of nice to have everytihng working fine from stock, and updates from HTC, it also seems nore relayable, but i miss the root access.

I just recently rooted the question is will I still get the 5.0 update when it comes out
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yes you can. You will lose root.
It's not that simple. If you still have the stock recovery, and haven't deleted any of the built-in apps / bloatware, then the OTA will probably work. If you've installed TWRP, or deleted bloatware, the OTA may fail to run. Or, worst case, the OTA will attempt to install but soft-brick your phone.
It's never a good idea to accept an OTA if you're rooted. Either restore to stock, then take the OTA, or wait for a rooted version of lollipop to install. If you accept the 5.0 OTA, you'll lose root, and it could be a long time before 5.0 can be rooted on this phone.
