I want to unlock, root and busybox my HOX will i still be able to get OTA updates?
Instructions on how to root etc can be found here
You could, flash custom recovery, flash su.zip to enable root access on Stock ROM, then flash stock recovery, you will still receive OTA updates but you will probably lose your ROOT if you updated.
Any Reason you want to stay with Stock ROM?
I came from HD2 so im used to custom roms, but its kind of nice to have everytihng working fine from stock, and updates from HTC, it also seems nore relayable, but i miss the root access.

Will it? Some of my friends told me they can't receive OTA even with yakju version 4.0.1 is that affacted by rooting?
Shouldn't be, so long as you don't flash a stock rom - the OTA for the volume bug took the best part of a week to reach all handsets.
You'll loose root - the files will still be there but the permissions on them will be changed, to get root access back you'll need to rerun the chmod 06775 on su and Superuser.apk.
the same here...still on 4.0.1 with rooted stock - GSM free edition AT.
Can I rerun superboot r3 after applying the 4.0.2 OTA update?
A little explenation. As far as my knowlege goes..
You don't root the rom, its the phones bootloader that you overwrite so you so you can install custom recovery. With that you can overwrite the stock rom with a custom rom, kernel or radio.
So after rooting you are still on stock everything as long as you dont flash anything after that.
I read somewhere that some custom roms still received a update when on stock kernel.
You can always return to stock everything if you dont get the update or just flash a custom rom that is already uptodate.
Some say rooting and custom roms does affect the OTA updates and like you said others have got the updates so I think it's pretty hit and miss.
The only way to truly know is go back to stock and force an update and see if it works.
i would like to root my phone but would still like to receive stock ics when it comes out, but i read if you are rooted and have CWM you wont get OTA updates so i was wondering is there a way to root only. i found this (link at bottom) would it just root and not install anything else?

That would just give you root access.
But read this. It's useful information.

well, most of the ROMs are based off stock, and will probably get the upate notification. However, you might have troubles updating through OTA because of this..
You can:
update through kies
flash a deodexed and rooted stock ICS ROM when released for t989
flash stock build through odin.
I would just flash a rooted rom to make like easier.
I like to root my mobile just to use some rooted apps not to install Rom. And my doubt is if root my mobile will I stop getting update from HTC?

if you root your mobile, then i assume you'd also install a custom rom. if you then reinstall htcs update, you'll lose, rendering the whole root process pointless in the first place.
once you've installed a custom rom, wait for the custom rom developer to release the update, and then update to that instead.
i just noticed you said you wouldn't install a custom rom. but anyways, if you then update to htcs rom, you'll still lose root.
I have stock ROM installed and stock recovery and I want to keep that way.
So my questions is, is it possible to root my device while keeping everything stock and get OTA updates without problems.
The only thing I need rooting for is to use Market Enabler.
You need to flash a custom recovery to root your phone but that won't enable your phone to get OTA udates (only notification), so when you get an update notification you have to reflash your stock recovery and unroot your phone to apply OTA updates.

If you wanted to unroot and so flash a stock recovery, how would you know which one to use? Is there a set recovery for each version of the phone, or is it the software version? So you'd just get the latest version you can find? For the phone of course. Thanks.

A dev just release exploit based rooting method, you might wanna to try it since you wish to keep stock recovery.
However, you might loose root access after OTA as they always patch the root access back. Simply use some root keeper or method from above(if working) to gain back root access.
UPDATES: seems we have solid devices, LINK. You may try it, though.
rooted all my devices, havent rooted this one yet in fear for it messing with OTA. if i use the insecure boot imagine flashing via odin root method (option #1 on the toolkit), will i lose the ability to receive OTA updates?
You could always skip it, remove root and get it later on that day.
If you keep all the stock apps it would probably remove root without effecting anything else.

rooting by itself shoukdnt cause problems if you're using stock recovery and don't modify system files. Ota can interfere with root though.

I believe you would be able to get an OTA if you were just rooted, but after applying it, it would break your root and your would have to root over again. If you have a custom recovery the OTA would just fail to install. I could be wrong on the first part, it's been a long time since I only rooted, without installing a custom recovery as well.

what about if i install OTA rootkeeper? would that make a difference?
The biggest thing you need to consider is whether you have a custom recovery or stock. Only a stock recovery will let an OTA update flash. If it's custom you'll want to either flash to stock before trying to update or wait a day or so unitl someone uploads a rooted .zip version of the update.
i think im going to stay with stock recovery.
so i just rooted and installed CWM. if i reflash stock recovery via odin, will the phone stay rooted?
