Ok, so this question is for people that used an upgrade and bought the SGS2 @ Walmart. Or any other phone at that.
Story -
I upgraded one of my lines(my sisters') and got the SGS2. The line I upgraded didn't have a data plan on it.
I knew that once upgrading I was gonna at least have to pay a minimum of $10 for the 4G plan even though I was gonna use the phone on a different line(my own).
I told that to the Walmart girl, she activated the phone, she said I was gonna get billed for the activation fee, did all the paperwork and went about my business. However she never did link the new sim card to the upgraded line.
So once I got home I activated the new sim card on (my line) and started using the SGS2. Not once did I put in the sim card of the actual line (my sisters') on the phone.
So now two months later, I still have an upgrade on the same line, I haven't had an upgrade fee or been charged for the data (which I don't even know if it got activated because the phone on that line is just a basic Samsung Gravity) and haven't tried to use the internet.
Question?
So how long did it take you to finally see it (fees)on your phone bill?
Do I not have any fees because the phone got linked to a different line than the one purchased on?
At this point it seems I bought the phone at Walmart at the full upgrade price without actually upgrading the line and no added fees (data fee, upgrade fee)
I'm curious because I thought by now I would of had those fees on my bill and that line would no longer be eligible for an upgrade.
Has anyone else had this experience at Walmart buying a phone?

Actually sounds like a Tmobile mistake. My little sister and her husband got an upgrade on both of their lines a few months ago. The upgrades never showed on their account and they still both have an upgrade. And, they got an upgrade mid last year, which also never showed on their account. So they've had 2 upgrades in a year and still have a full upgrade on each line. I wish they would eff my account up like that lol. But yea, it doesn't surprise me a bit.

Lucky them, lol. Well sounds good to me, this way I'll actually use the upgrade for my sister and give her a new phone for Christmas.
Looks like I'm gonna do all my upgrades at Walmart, lol.

The funny thing is they've told Tmobile about the mistakes and they don't seem to care. So I doubt its something that would come back on you.

I bought the GN yesterday from Virgin Mobile.
I use it on Mobilicity network. So far almost everything works, making phone calls, surfing the web etc.
My only problem is that I'm unable to install apps from the market.
When using wifi, apps are installed without a problem.
Is it possible that the market is locked somehow?
Any ideas on how to fix this annoying problem?
Thanks
edit: Re-read your post so i'm retracting my first statement. There are issues with the market today so that might be the issue.

Thanks for the quick response.
I know the market is experiencing some problems this morning, but it's only with purchasing paid apps.
I'm having a problem with installing free apps on mobile data, but everything works fine on wifi.
Servers are overloaded probably. I guess be patient and keep trying? I'm having problems with $.10 apps.

Had this problem too but found the fix!
I figured out that it's the proxy in the APN settings that's causing the problem. I cleared the proxy, proxy ports and lo and behold, market downloads over 3G now work great.

I'm having the same problems with paid apps, but that's not the issue.
I just tested it on my Nexus S. Free apps install without a problem on mobile data and wifi.
On the Galaxy Nexus, I'm only able to install free apps on wifi. It seems to be blocked somehow.

Had the same issue with my Telus SIM. Removing the proxy worked great.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I think the proxy is used to degrade the picture quality on webpages so that loading occurs faster and uses less data.
Therefore, removing the proxy is fine since we got a capable phone and data plans that can handle a ton of web browsing/downloading.
Happy downloading y'all!
Thanks for all the help guys!
Getting it from Virgin Mobile...
Hey just a quick question, did you have any difficulty buying the phone off contract from Virgin Mobile in the first place? I will be attempting to buy one tomorrow to use with WIND (BEST mobile deal ever, $40 unlimited everything... and I mean everything... and that's including tax!) but I have heard that they are refusing to sell them without some sort of contract.
How did you do it? Was it an actual VM store or a retailer?
Thanks!

I got it from a Virgin store. London drugs didn't have it. I paid $650 for the phone and $20 for one month of service which I canceled as soon as I left the store (called CS) .
I bought it for my wife to replace her aging nexus one. I'll probably get another one for myself when it will be available on Mobilicity. It will probably be $100 less.
Still enjoying the good old Nexus S BTW.

Im in a similar situation as the guy above (want to use a Bell/Virgin one on Rogers). If I buy it off contract, and don't buy any service, would it still just be a matter of popping in my Rogers sim?
For the record, the guy at the source said no, but retail isn't always the most knowledgeable.

I have chutzpah, and requested to test the demo unit with Fido sim.
Although the guy at the store told me again and again that the phone is locked, obviously it's not. He told me that Bell paid a lot of money for exclusivity and that's why it's locked. He said that only the European version is unlocked - BS.
The bottom line - works with Mobilicity, Fido and all the rest. It's unlocked like all the other Nexus phones and free from crapware.
I know you can also get it @ Costco, with a $75 rebate and one month with Bell, which costs less.

Thanks!, the fix works great!
fyi, bought a google version from Pacific mall in markham, paid 380 in exchange for my 3mth old sensation. What im hearing is that carrier phones will have to get their updates approved by the carrier first and something about warranty as well that the google version has worldwide warranty whereas the carrier (bell, vz) don't. So in short try to buy internationl pure google version if you can so that at least the updates aren't delayed.
Cheers!

I don't think any of the phones have worldwide warranty. It's just the phones with the Google build will most likely get the updates before the people with the Samsung build. The actual phone warranty will probably be limited to whatever country it was originally bought in.
Okay so here's the story. I've been with T-Mobile for about a year and a half. Always had great service and reception at my home. Before I used to average a ping of 80-90ms with 25MB Down and 4MB Up.
About 10-12 days ago something happened with some of the towers in my area. Data connection went from perfect above to 1200ms pings now with 0.30MB down and never ANY upload.
This only happens when I'm in the area surrounding my home. If I leave my town my coverage starts to come back data wise. At home I am able to make calls and send texts. However I'm not able to send any picture messages as I have zero upload they just don't send.
T-Mobile is doing NOTHING except telling me they need 72 hours after another 72 hours after another 72 hours to wait for their engineers. I need my data and I'm not being told when this will be fixed. Based upon all of this can I cancel my contract and leave T-Mobile without paying ANY fees due to the fact I can't even get the promised services at my home address?
Any help is appreciated.
T-Mobile Galaxy S3 - Rooted - Stock Rom
They prolly won't budge that easily.
Wait it out, ask for a discount or something added to your bills for a month or so.
Your imei intact?
You won't be able to get out your contract without any fees for having no data. You are not promised anything. Tmobile covers this excuse in your contract by saying "coverage not available in all areas" and you should have known this before you signed your contract. They also state that data speeds will vary based on a number of resason.
Good Luck- hopefully they fix it for you.

IMEI is there. I can see it in the menus.
As far as no data that's one thing. But if I can't even send text/multimedia messages that's a pretty big issues as well. If they want to be pricks about it I'll just change my address to a family farm out in BUFU where there is no reception and then they can't hold me to the contract either way.
Has anyone ever heard of not having data for a month though? I wish there was a T-Mobile engineer on here who could comment on **** like this. So frustrating. They waived my $30 data charge for the month but it's not even about that. I don't care if it's free doesn't matter if it's not there period. If it's not resolved within another week I'm heading over to Sprint. They have WiMax in my area now and LTE will pop up way before T-Mobile ever gets it.
Replace your device three times and then by law they are required to let you go out of contract without oaying early termination fee.

I would call customer service and request/demand a refund for any days in which you did not have downloadable service on your phone. They can probably pro-rate the service days. Be nice but firm and ask for a supervisor if the person who answers does not solve the problem. Heck....you may end up getting a free month for your trouble at the end!

As I said they gave me my data free for a month. $30 credit to my account. Doesn't change the fact I have two lines without data right now and I still have a $100+ bill due. I don't mind paying I just want the services.
I'll give them one more week. It will then have been 21 days with no connection and no ability to send e-mails/multimedia messages.
They honestly don't care that much. If the coverage map says you have service, then to them you have service. I was stuck in this situation for three months. They will *maybe* send you a free network extender but like someone else posted, they make no promises and honestly don't really care if you have data or not.

Well they have one week. If they don't fix the situation I'll close my account. If they refuse to credit me for the contract I'll change my address to a farm my family has where there is NO cell phone coverage. Then they have no choice but to let me out seeing as the registered address has ZERO service.
Either way I'll have my data back on T-Mobile or I'll switch to Sprint/ATT/Verizon.

I don't get why you think it is that easy to get out of your contract? When I changed my address with T-Mobile I had to provide mail addressed to me from the address for at least two months prior. If it was that easy people would be buying phones on contract left and right and changing their address to get out ETF free.

I had an issue like this when the Danger servers went down due to Microsoft buying them out (for the old sidekicks). I (and all the other sidekick users) went 3 months without any service except calls and basic txt. Tmo did nothing for me or any of the other sidekick users except give out a 30 dollar gift card for the "inconvenience"
Changing your address doesn't change who you are, they can still collect and tank your credit.
Anyways you confuse me. You said no data for a month then later said next week will be 21 days.... And you already got a refund for a whole month. Diplomacy and being polite go pretty far with CSRs.
Okay so far as of 2AM my data has been back and fantastic. I pray it holds up and it's not a temporary thing. Right now I can't complain.
So your month without data was less than 2 weeks.. wow.

Hey man two weeks without data is a long time. That was two weeks without mobile e-mail, ability to send multimedia messages, no Facebook, Pandora, etc...
When you pay a company $150 a month for two lines you expect the services to work. When T-Mobile told me it would be resolved in 72 hours 5 times that got pretty annoying.
All in all glad it's working now. I'll take the month waived data. Hope it never happens again.

My AT&T Note 2 arrived this afternoon (full-price, no-commitment; I'm still under contract for my old AT&T phone). When I called to activate the Note 2, I was told that my grandfathered data plan is "incompatible" with the Note 2 and had to agree to a 3GB plan instead. But this is the first I heard of the incompatibility. When I placed the order, there was no mention of any need to change the data plan.
I don't see how it can be lawful of AT&T to impose a requirement that they failed to disclose at the time of purchase a couple of weeks ago.
You better keep calling and trying, ask to speak with a supervisor. You have to say you werent told this before you ordered and others were able to order just fine and keep their unlimited data. Should work out for you.
When did they start enforcing this? Best bet is go to your local store.
I accepted the 3GB plan for now because it was the only way they'd activate the phone, but I'll see if I can get it changed.

do not hang up and do not settle for anything but what you want. they will feed you all sorts of lies...but that is what they are...lies. dont give in and you can get your unlimited data back.
long story short I paid an extra 100 for this phone just so I would hopefully never have to speak to a csr again.
Two months ago they pulled this **** with me and revoked my plan. It took a while but I spoke to this guy way high up at att who gave it back to me. Let me try and find his number for you.
ATT has fudged my plan up also. To start they sent my phone with the wrong sim card and my sim card went to someone else. Then after changing sim cards they can not get data to work on my sim card. After 3 hours on the phone they said they can't figure out what is wrong and put in a 24 hour ticket. How hard is it to enter two numbers into a database, the IMEI and SIM?

It sounds like I have the same problem as Ishmael... the probably removed my unlimited when I activated the sim card... heads are gonna roll!
When I activated mine the same thing happened. Called into Premier and they tried to tell me I had to use the new data plan due to the GF one being incompatible; told them that I know of several people with other LTE compatible phones that have their grandfathered features still; and we kept chatting and eventually she "found" the right codes to use. Won't actually know until the next bill comes in... but it was a pain in the ass.
They did this to me too. The guy at the ATT store said the 3gb plan will only be on there for about 4 hours then it will get changed over.
Not sure why this phone has an issue with this...

Also you can use any att phone(including iphone 5) no jailbreaking or changing apn, everything will work out the gate!!! Go to corporate att store and get your sims for free! also have any issues you can go to the att store for help!
customer service is a million times better, and i got my s3 replaced through att cause it still had a year warranty through att. I bought the phone used of craigslist, and it stop charging after a month!
Also please note you dont get unlimited data with straight talk. while its cheap BUT with them turning off data for no reason, not telling people what the data limit is, horrible cs, As soon as i found out gophone was allowing ANY phone they sell on postpaid on prepaid(including iphone 5) AND allowing LTE data. i switched!!!!

While you are right, I live no where near LTE so it doesn't bother me. And I don't call at&t for customer service anyway. They are useless there too. But gives people options. I'm still going for cheapest.

You are correct sir! U only get about 2 gb a month with straight talk before u are throttled, happens to me every time at about my last week of service, and it is very annoying!! I will definitely be checking into this, but on another note, IPhone? Really??? I wouldn't take one if they were giving them away!! Hahaha...

Yea i have a iphone 4s as a backup phone. As i was using it as a example because with st, you have to jailbreak to have mms, but with gophone everything works out the gate! which is a positive because alot of people may not want to tweak with their phone to get simple things to work. And what sold me was the warranty claim i got and im on prepaid! While i dont call customer service ever, it nice to know and a piece of mind that i HAVE cs when i need it. and with my area having lte it was a no brainer, and the fact that i can blow my data in a day if i wanted to. you pay for what your getting and KNOW what to except. i got throttled on st because one day i use over 100mb and some days later i get throttled to a useless speed that i cant do anything data wise without being around some wifi on my phone. The only thing st has going for it is it price, but for me and after tax with st, im paying 2-4 dollars more a month but im getting so much more in return!
I've had ST for a while now & I like the service. It's $90/mo after taxes for my 2 phones ( mine & my wife's ) since we pay $42.50/mo w/ the autopay discount deal they had @ the time.
No CS? No problem. I've had AT&T since 2000 until I moved to ST last year. AT&T's CS wasn't very good @ all... it took 3 days of the 5th degree & 3 "senior" techs to finally diagnose one of my phones as non-working... @ this was w/ a family plan that ran us $170/mo after taxes.
The other thing was the removal of my grandfathered plan of unlimited data + 1500 texts for $40/mo when I bought my GS3.
So.. $42.50/mo w/ 2 gigs of data ( throttled after ), unlimited talk & unlimited text is just fine for us. The Iowa City, Ia area doesn't have LTE & I can barely get stable 3G out here; so I'm not concerned about the loss of LTE.
I work at Walmart and we stopped carrying the straight talk/net ten carry over package because they don't sell and from what I've been told the only way to buy straight talk att sims was Amazon or eBay since st didn't sell them anymore. So don't expect to walk into wall mart and buy the sim, they don't do that anymore.
Just looked at the straight talk sight and they do have are "compatible" sims so now I can tell people to go buy it online and leave me alone 14.99 for a sim 45$ "unlimited" everything you'll be paying 63.59$ USD your first go round. In new York at least. Home to 8% sales tax
Don't expect 4g or to be able to use a 4g phone easily. From what st customer service told us is on iphones especially most features don't work, for instance MMS only works from one iPhone to another something im sure you could fix in the APN settings

Anyone on straight talk have to change their APN recently? I refilled the other night before my service ended at midnight, and I lost data. Next day, still nothing! Had to call customer service, and after about 30 minutes of garbage she had me switch my APN from wap.tracfone to att.mvno. Data came back?? I've uses wap.tracfone for a year with no issues!!!

If you don't mind me asking, where do you live? Do you use YouTube? What are your typical speeds? Can you stream with no problems? Stories differ so much from person to person, I just want to make sure all questions are answered if I use this. I have the option of doing the family mobile deal with Walmart and getting an employee discount, which brings the monthly down to like $25, but as its T-Mobile I'll have to do one of the mods to be able to use it. I'm not ever in an area of LTE so I really don't care about that. I just want to make sure streaming (music, video, YouTube) is allowed with straighttalk. Also, if I take my number with me that I've had for 10 years and then find its not for me, do I lose my number?
