Hey guys,
I'm a user from China, so maybe have some expression problem of English, forgive this.
So, here is the problem.
I like JJ's HYBRID ROM(baseband 70) with Stock ICS Beta Kernel in the thread, but it came across that the Wifi is unstable in common use. I can connect to the router, but after some time, maybe 10m or 20m, it break into disconnect. So I went into the wifi config, the status was "obtaining ip address" or "auth", then it connected.
Also I tried other kernel like DooMKernel with wifi modules applied or Arc Night. But obviously it appears the same problem.
And I also tried the official rom. It still appears the same problem.
And I also searched the similar thread and install the wifix.apk, it also the same prolem.
Anyone can give me some help? It troubled me a lot.
Please share your solution, thanks.
Ps: There is no wifi problem in GB.
ya... many ics users reported problems regarding the wifi.
Its a commom issue on xperia arc. Check this: http://talk.sonymobile.com/thread/14324?tstart=0

Any suggestion? It really really troubled me a lot. So yesterday I turned back to GB. But I'm still trying to figure this problem out.
Thank you.
I've read the issue. Got nothing useful for me. So any suggestion for me? Thank you.

Hi there all,
I've installed one of the WM6 cooked roms and have experienced problems with my WiFi and connecting to available hot spots. Before you flame me I have tried the search function but to no avail... could some one tell me if there is a rom which does not cause this issue? Is there a fix?

That thread's all about what to do if you already have the problem (summary... wait). He's looking to avoid the problem in the first place. Seems that now that they know the cause, if not the cure, someone might know what's ROM or procedure is causing the issue for so many people.
Pointed him there as that is most likely where the "cure" AND other information can be found about this issue (ie: don't load this ROM or whatever...).
Thanks Dave for clearing that with Jeffrey. The issue is my wireless lan works on the original os and has not vanished like the others. I was just wondering if there was a version of WM6 for the Jasjam that did not create the issue with the wifi connection. The only issue being it does not connect like to any of the discovered hot spots...
From what I have read the problem is mostly in the latest releases. For example you might want to check the LVSW 07/05 thread as I don't think it had the wifi problem.
it seems all trial and error.. I'm currently (well still actually) using the latest LVSW and i dont have any serious trouble. The one thing was that it wouldnt connect right after the flash but it did after the device detected the network .. No logic there i know
Ye i need to fix my sig
hi all, sorry to be a pain but will LVSW 5/19 update potentially cause any wifi probelms coz i am about to update mine and my gf's and i dont want to get *****ed at. if you know what i mean -.-;

Although no one can say for sure how your phone and the software you use will work with a specific ROM, the best thing you can do is read the thread specific to that ROM and see what others are saying.
So far I've installed Black 2.5, Black 3.01 and LVSW 5/19 and all of them have given me issues with wifi. My wifi still works but it is highly picky with what AP it will talk to.
With the original WM5 I would regularly connect to at least 6 AP's at various places and now with WM6 using the above mentioned flavours it will only connect to one of them.
I have not gone back to the original WM5 to be 100% sure but if the full RTM HERMES specific WM6 still has troubles then I will be most disappointed.
my wifi keeps turning off and off when i use it, could it be a hardware problem? how can I fix this?
it could be.. or could also be software.. have you got any battery management apps or task killers set to auto?

im having the same problem, i think it happens for users who have a LT15a and flashed the LT15i firmware, im not sure, but it vould just be the new firmware

No, I don't have any battery management apps or task killers set to auto. How can I find out if its software or hardware?
well for me when i had the rogers firmware, wifi worked without any issues, whenever i flashed the hong kong firmware, it started to cause problems, so im sure its software related
Are you away from the router? I think WiFi turning off because you're too far away from router is common (at least for me).
if you've not unlocked your bootloader then I would recommend a repair via SEUS or PCC.. bit of a pain to set everything up again, but worth it if it solves your problem.

any solution to this problem? I can only stay on wifi for a minute or two then it keeps on disconnecting even though the indicator at the top says im connected. No issues with 3G it is just the wifi that disconnects. I've tried sitting real close to an AP but it doesn't help.

Have you upgraded to 2.3.3?
This supposedly fixes the issue.
I had minimal problems on 2.3.2 when I first bought the Arc but have had none since the upgrade.

I have not yet, I will asap. I guess that should have been my first solution. Been busy at work the past week.
But also I have read some other threads that was not the solution. Anyone else experience this?

I had the same problem, sent it back to vodafone who flashed it to 2.3.3, did not help one bit. I've sent the phone off to sony ericsson now, hopefully they can sort something out.
Hello guys..
I had the CM7 ROM installed earlier which had issues with the Wifi connectivity but not regular, used to happen once in a while..
After the new Kernel got released on 28th by Haschcode.. i decided to take the plunge the CM9 way with gedeROM.. trust me it has been brilliant.. After the installation I m able to connect initially to wifi.. subsequently when i try connecting to the Wifi it has not been connecting..
I tried EneryROM which also has been giving same issues.. Need your help on this guys..
Also for information sake.. before installing the ROMs.. I wipe the cache, factory reset, Dalvik.. then flash the ROM
Would want to know if any of you guys are experiencing similar issues and if you had been able to get around it..Please find the screenshots attached..
I havent tryed energy but I did try gedeRom never could get it to connect period end of story not that it isnt a sweet rom and the developer has put very excellent effort into it others have had good results. I really dont have a clue why this differs from person to person or rom to rom but I do recall once being able to correct this under advanced connection or by simply not letting or letting google keep a backup of my device. Being in development stage there are little quirks that spring up that dont hold true for all users everyones methodology varies. I couldnt get the new miui to even boot some say to flash at a full charge can fix that problem. The new AOKP has been working very well for me but others have had issues dont know how much is directly related to rom/kernel/ user error at flash. Hashcode has done a briliant job with his kernel and the developers of these roms have too patience is a virtue at this point until some bugs are smashed. For me if I have alot of trouble I simply just move on till a later date then try again the wifi thing kinda is a deal breaker on a kindle without another way to connect to the net.
Edit: at one point there was a mac address problem with the new kernel I believe that was resolved but it gave every device the same mac address which I understand causes some routers to rebel.

You might try just flashing the latest kernel (#8) to see if that helps.

I m running on new kernel only.. donno y it is behaving like that..
But thepooch.. what u said is 100% true..the ROMs are nothing short of brilliance.. infact the icons r much sharper and the system is pretty smooth in CM9.. shd thank Hashcode and the other ROM makers..
I have an SMC router.. planning to test on a friends netgear this week lets see..
I am on AOKP Milestone 5, and WiFi is working fine for me. I just tried disconnecting and reconnecting again; no problem.
A really fine ROM, and yes; Hashcode is a god.

@Vaksen.. I had flashed AOKP yesterday... same problem guess need to check out on a different router..
Anyways on a different note.. Hashcode is definitely God so are the others who create the ROMs for us!!!

3.0 Kernel released on 28th is changing Kindle's WiFi MAC address - you should check MAC filtering policy on your WiFi router. Settings/about/status is the way to find your "new" MAC address. Developers found solution for keeping original MAC address, it will be included in next kernel/rom versions - so do not erase Kindle's original MAC address from router's MAC filter list - you will need it soon.

Thanx.. but i too know that.. my question is I dont have the MAC filtering activated.. so why is it failing then?
Have you tryed AOKP? No issues there

Yep.. no respite.. same problem
Ewwh that sucks There's got to be some kind of workaround have you tried advanced connections? Your router is very picky
Its a total shot in the dark but maybe you could try the Hellfire cleaner before you do a fresh flash not the nullifier I'm not totally sure about that one yet. Maybe there is some fragments left behind from your previous flashes that are bottlenecking you? What kind of wireless connection is yours?
I was having similar issues. I think Hashcode's kernels hate certain routers. What kind of router do you have?
My fix was setting my router to run with a static connection instead of with DHCP.
Can you please post a logcat in Hashcode's kernel thread? The issue will get resolved faster.

Router reset with ICS Hashcode 3.0
I have very similar issues you are all reporting. I can use CM7 on my Fire and the wireless works perfect almost all of the time. I gets a little screwy at time, and I just reboot the device and it works fine again for days. When I use any ICS with Hashcode it works GREAT for about 2 days. After that mark, any time i connect with the wireless to my dlink B/G/N router, it will actually reset the router (not settings, just off/on) over and over again. Does anyone know if this issue is being addressed? I am not much of a networking person to know what the Fire could be doing to cause my router to do this, so I am really at a loss.
Hey guys. I'm really angry about this problem so I decided to create a topic, although I posted several times in some threads and no answer so far.
I have problem with wifi in ANY ICS or JB rom. It can't recognize any wifi network, sometimes, it even freezes in wifi section in setting. I am sure that I'm doing all of install steps correctly; as I said, I have no problems with roms based on older versions of android. the strange case is that my friends have the same problem. Is it possible that it relates to internet providers in my country? (I'm living in Iran).
Thanks for your help.
anyone?
Not even one person?!!!
Hi!
I know there are plenty of threads about the wifi on this phone, I've read every one of them, posted in many places and have had no good outcome.
Here is my (lengthy) story.
Had annoying wifi bugs on stock 4.1.2, seemingly general lack of interest from the phone in connecting to wifi, but would generally connect after a reboot of both modem+phone+ disabling PSM (even then, not always )
6 months on stock go by, thought flashing a custom rom would fix everything and all would be well again, so I flashed PA.
An even more annoying bug showed up,
Turn wifi on > doesn't automatically connect, so I manually go to the wifi settings page and try connecting.
Before trying to connect - Full signal.
While trying to connect - Goes down to one bar while connecting > fails > then goes back to full signal.
Does occasionally connect, but it's rare. Rebooting both phone and the modem does nothing at all, seems to have a mood of it's own.
It's not just my wifi, but wifi at college too, other devices connect to the same access point just fine.
What would fix this? Will pretty much try most things now,I tried flashing NEAK too.
I don't have a data plan either, so my phone is basically useless without wifi, I've resigned to using my laptop all the time.
Thank you for reading this so far, I'd be thankful for ANY advice.
TL;DR :- Annoying wfi bug, tried every 'solution' I've heard of, nothing worked, never buying a Samsung again :crying:
(Attached images of the phenomenon)
UPDATE:- Just like stock, it will only connect if I am a foot away from the router, irrespective of how much signal I have. Even if I have a full signal elsewhere, it won't connect

We meet again!
Like mentioned in the post, the only reason I flashed an aosp based ROM was in the desperate hope it'd rid the phone of its WiFi problem.
Thought a custom ROM would do what Samsung refuses to do.
Hope someone has a valid solution for this.

Anyone?
I forgot I already had the range issue for quite a while, even on stock.
I had tried everything, including static IP, wps, and whatever else was stated to work.
Does anyone know of a working solution to this? Is this a hardware/software issue?
