Hi there all,
I've installed one of the WM6 cooked roms and have experienced problems with my WiFi and connecting to available hot spots. Before you flame me I have tried the search function but to no avail... could some one tell me if there is a rom which does not cause this issue? Is there a fix?

That thread's all about what to do if you already have the problem (summary... wait). He's looking to avoid the problem in the first place. Seems that now that they know the cause, if not the cure, someone might know what's ROM or procedure is causing the issue for so many people.
Pointed him there as that is most likely where the "cure" AND other information can be found about this issue (ie: don't load this ROM or whatever...).
Thanks Dave for clearing that with Jeffrey. The issue is my wireless lan works on the original os and has not vanished like the others. I was just wondering if there was a version of WM6 for the Jasjam that did not create the issue with the wifi connection. The only issue being it does not connect like to any of the discovered hot spots...
From what I have read the problem is mostly in the latest releases. For example you might want to check the LVSW 07/05 thread as I don't think it had the wifi problem.
it seems all trial and error.. I'm currently (well still actually) using the latest LVSW and i dont have any serious trouble. The one thing was that it wouldnt connect right after the flash but it did after the device detected the network .. No logic there i know
Ye i need to fix my sig
hi all, sorry to be a pain but will LVSW 5/19 update potentially cause any wifi probelms coz i am about to update mine and my gf's and i dont want to get *****ed at. if you know what i mean -.-;

Although no one can say for sure how your phone and the software you use will work with a specific ROM, the best thing you can do is read the thread specific to that ROM and see what others are saying.
So far I've installed Black 2.5, Black 3.01 and LVSW 5/19 and all of them have given me issues with wifi. My wifi still works but it is highly picky with what AP it will talk to.
With the original WM5 I would regularly connect to at least 6 AP's at various places and now with WM6 using the above mentioned flavours it will only connect to one of them.
I have not gone back to the original WM5 to be 100% sure but if the full RTM HERMES specific WM6 still has troubles then I will be most disappointed.

After a marathon of rom´s installation (went from all wm6.5 to kavana´s wm6.1) and back to wm6.5 rom´s, I am unable to get the wifi working properly with Auto power save mode under wifi settings...just work as it should if "best performance" is selected, with the battery vampire results...This happens no matter what rom I am using (wm6.5 or wm6.1, same situation).
As far as I recall I was able to use the wifi with auto power setting before I´ve installed kavana´s wm6.1.
Any clue?...
I could change the topic in some sense...is anybody having wifi working ok with "best battery" or auto option selected into Power Mode options of Wlan settings?..cause the only way I can have it working properly is setting "best performance" option, and it is a pain for battery life...
Using Kavana Ricky Remade Best Battery working fine, i always just keep on Auto but decided to try to verify.
I'm not sure why some peeps have issues with wi-fi and others don't what ROM are you using now as you say since using Kavana? Remembering Ricky remade the base is still the same.
Hi Stylez, thanks for coming back..
The problem started since I´ve installed Kavana´s ROM...before that, I never get a single problem connecting wifi with auto setting. After that installation, I was using a lot of different roms during the weekend, and all of them have the same problem with wifi connecting only with best performance setting..even returning to 3vo series and Lovebabyjing (present rom) I have the same problem, and-again- never have that wifi power setting problem with those roms.
I am a complete dumb, but it could be possible that installing a rom could mess my wifi radio and that damage could be permanent? or in other words...is there any setting that keeps on hardware regardless the rom you install?
Thanks for your support, as always
When we flash a ROM all of the previous ROM "should" be overwriten wiped, yet we know that's not always the case to which is why back when Ricky & i made RoseROM there was a bit about hard-reset after flashing, i don't think that a ROM flash is likely to cause the issue mentioned just because no other cases mentioned "even though has been some weird no wi-fi cases" and also like previous said i'm using Ricky Remade and the base is exactly the same, could just have been the timing, what i'd advise is flashing back to stock ROM then performing a hard-reset, then flashing custom ROM, sorry i can't give a decisive caurse of action or fix.
Always happy to help as much as can
Ok Stylez, thanks a lot...In my search for a "cure" I´ve reflashed to a stock rom but forgot to do a hard reset..I´ll be doing that and see what happens.
Interesting you are using the ricky´s remade of Kavana...does it fullfil all your expectations? sorry to be curious..

Good luck "my gut feeling is it's not going to help"
I'm very fond of Ricky Remade was my first ROM flash PagePooled @ 4.5MB get about 28MB of RAM on first boot and 25MB pretty much all day only thing i could wish for is that someone makes a fresh weather app, but then i use Tilt as main device with M2D and weather4me so that was just me being picky lol
Wow...I should try that rom ..I can see you´ve discarded wm6.5 roms...I can´t decide which one will be for a time..I am a flash addicted
If I could get any weather app working flawlessly with a WM6.1 (and of course, getting my wifi working ok again) maybe I will keep that rom for a while..
Thanks again brother
A relevant question
I know this might be a dumb question to some of you but...does anyone know how I can assign a DNS to my wifi?
Unfortunatley my internet service provider has assigned a dns for my connection, which means that I cannot use the internet unless I enter that number.
I even called HTC's tech support and they couldn't help. They said that I was not running the original rom and the new one was missing important settings. Is this true?
Unfortunately, I don't have the stock rom. I'm currently using Ricky's remade WM6.1
Can anybody help, please?

i have gave up on the location feature i have tried everything and it just seems that it just not working here in San Juan, Puerto Rico for some reason it use to work before but apparently not any more if any one know what else can i do let me know, things i have tried:
1. different radio
2. use task29 before flashing
3. go back to original shipped ROM and flash a custom rom without using task29
4. lot of registry hacks related to location settings
5. different agps settings
...... any other suggestions???
You are not alone with this problem, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6118508 and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=662178
So it seems to be a wider problem :-(
I wrote to HTC support 3 times in last 2 weeks about this problem, but till now no response from them. Maybe you should also send a question to HTC about this issue.
any one with a new solution?
I wrote to HTC support but without any reasonable answer or solution :-(. Maybe you should do the same and everybody who has such a problem. that should be a way to create some pressure on HTC.
Yeah I had this problem too... 3 things... Find the "QuickGPS" update... settings > location settings... htc location service (checked) and turned on, google location service turned on.
then if all else fails try this .cab from this thread on HTCPedia
http://htcpedia.com/forum/showthread.php?t=888
This will usually get the weather working which is a sure sign GPS is working!

So I am not sure how to turn on google location service. So, I don't know if that is still causing me to not update location.
I did install your cab to main memory and soft reset the phone, but I had no luck.
I am running an Energy 23557 Sense 2.5 cookie home tab Apr 14 Rom. Please, please help. I have seen this my location work 1 time. I have absolutely no idea how it did and cannot get it to do it again, any help is GREATLY appreciated.
Update
I am a moron, I have been avoiding flashing a new radio, cause I am weird when it comes to things I haven't tried before, but now my location works.
I flashed the 4.49.25.57 radio for T-Mobile and now my location updates perfectly. Thanks to all that have put up posts on this site.
Below is the link for the page that shows all the newer radios. After much thought and listening to others who have flashed new radios. Everyone needs to do this. The stock radios SUCK.

Are you still running the original tmobile 6.1 ROM? I certainly understand if you are (I only recently stepped to 6.5 myself)...but the .57 radio is the one that comes standard on the tmo 6.5 upgrade, so most tmo users probably have it already. However, I've heard of the .57 giving the same improvements to Tilt2 and custom ROM users as well...so for any GSM users wanting to try other radios, that is proably the best one to start with.
Yes Sir

Yeah, check my sig. I am running a newer Energy ROM and it doesn't come with the radio we're talking about. But, yeah, this IS totally the best radio out there, hands down, if you are a T-Mo user at least.

Did you happen to notice any improvement in your GPS reception after you flashed the new radio? I'm suspecting that the reason the new radio cleared up the my location issue is because of better GPS performance.

I noticed a dramatic improvement. I don't have the lag behind issue. Not that it was much when driving, but now it's basically non existant. My google maps, bing, trapster, weather radar, all of them find my gps signal 100 times faster than before. It's truly amazing to me how much difference a new radio makes.

I'm glad it's made such an improvement all around for you, that rocks!
You may have seen it already, but make sure you check out my thread about the cab I found to fine-tune GPS for tmo users. It sounds like you may have it dialed in ok already, but this is just one more way to help get optiumum results
I think I found the sollution for this problem.
1: Go to settings tab
2: Go to more
3 Go to connections
4: Click on connections
5: Click on excisting connections
6: click on edit
7: Click next
8: Delete the name of your portal (portalmmm or something like that, it ends with mmm, thats what i remembered)
9: click next
10: click finish.
Now just update your gps using quickgps, and if all is well, the gps should work again!
Goodluck!
first of all thank you for viewing,
i have a problem with any rom running CM or gingerbread when trying to join a wireless connection that has a hidden SSID at WPA2 security.
i have no problems connecting to any other wireless connection as long as they are not configure as mention above.
now i would claim that there is a problem with the wireless configuration and the phone trying to handshake with it but this is not the issues with most roms.
because it works fine with most roms but does not with a few other roms i am sure that this is not hardware related.
here is a few troubleshooting steps i have gone through in order to see what is the source of the problem.
1st) i have loaded and tested every radio for the Inc (including the EVO radio) but the problems persist.
2nd) i have loaded and tested a variations of kernels to see if this is a cause of the problem and no luck (i tend to leave the Dev's choice in kernel alone in most cases)
any advise will be grateful please as i am at a lost and with search for people in my same place i have not found any yet.
please someone help i love playing with the Roms but this is starting to kill my experience as being able to connect to hidden and secure wifi is a must for me.
thank you.

silverramsrt,
thank you for the search and post, so what i gather from the 2 other instances of the same problem there is no fix for this as of now other than to broadcast you SSID.
i just cant imagine why would the developer version of Gingerbread does not have this working and i hope some one finds a fix for it or that a fixed version is added to the full release.
i know, i know high hopes.
thank you
You're welcome. It won't be long before one of the incredible devs tackle this. (pun intended)
Hey guys. I'm really angry about this problem so I decided to create a topic, although I posted several times in some threads and no answer so far.
I have problem with wifi in ANY ICS or JB rom. It can't recognize any wifi network, sometimes, it even freezes in wifi section in setting. I am sure that I'm doing all of install steps correctly; as I said, I have no problems with roms based on older versions of android. the strange case is that my friends have the same problem. Is it possible that it relates to internet providers in my country? (I'm living in Iran).
Thanks for your help.
anyone?
Not even one person?!!!
Dear XDA members,
I'm sorry for posting in this section, but since I'm new to the scene I can't post questions or topics in the appropriate section. So sorry for my noobyness..
Anyway I installed the new CM13 Nightly today. It is working great and even got the storage bug (gallery crash) fixed by removing the line ro.sdcardfs.enabled=true from build.prop (hint for anyone else needing this fix ). However I've found a bug that was stopping me from using CM13 in the first place, it was rebooting my device everytime it started up and connected to wifi... Whenever I connect to my Apple Airport Extreme the device crashes and reboots (just like the gallery bug). It is an older model Airport Extreme (the 802.11n version, so no ac wifi). It doesn't happen on the other router installed here, which is a Comtrend.
Could someone tell me where and how I report this bug or maybe even how to fix it? I haven't seen anyone else post it on the forums and it doesn't happen on OxygenOS or pre-official releases of CM13 based roms.
Thank you!

Already did that. Someone was supposed to look into it but didn't. I provider logs, but I guess it is nog considered a very important bug I already started a thread in the cyanogen forums so let's hope that helps.
Btw if you want to use cm, you van use Arter97's build. That build with his kernel (you Have to add it manually) doesn't have the wifi bug official CM with his kernel also doesn't have the wifi bug.
Believe to have figured out the issue
I am having this exact same problem when connecting my OP3 to my Airport Extreme. I have messed around with several different ROMs and discovered that the original Oxygen OS and Freedom OS (basically a modified version of Oxygen) don't crash when connecting to the Airport Extreme. This has happened to me in two different places, with two different Airport routers. It would connect just fine until I first updated one router to the latest version for the Airport (version 7.7.7), and then a few days later the same upgrade with the other one before realizing that this was why my phone kept crashing! Problem is, is I'm not sure what firmware of the Airport actually worked with my OP3. I've tried downgrading my Apple router (generation 7), but it will only let me go down to version 7.7.3 which still crashes the phone.
It has to be an issue with router's version, rather than a ROM issue because this only started happening with me after the Airport update. Best thing probably to do at this point is report it to Apple, and hopefully they will do something about it instead of just locking every non-apple product out of their 'Apple Products only can communicate with one another circle'... I'm unable to post an actual link to the website to report bugs to apple, so here is the link in a 'disguised' manor. apple(dot)com(ForwardSlash)feedback(ForwardSlash)airportextreme(dot)html
I just typed out a bug report myself and sent it to apple. The more people that report it, the more likely they will be to fix it. In the meantime, I also requested that they provide me with the original firmware that the 6th generation Airport Extreme came with, because I know it worked with my OP3. If I get it, and it works I'll provide a Dropbox or Google Drive link for the download on a future reply to this thread.

It was a rom issue and it is fixed in CM builds after 18/9, I tested the commit before it went live. Don't use any kernel before that date and you're fine . The Apple routers are fine haha. There was a variable defined as a wrong type, which caused a stack overflow when connecting to an airport.
