Hello guys..
I had the CM7 ROM installed earlier which had issues with the Wifi connectivity but not regular, used to happen once in a while..
After the new Kernel got released on 28th by Haschcode.. i decided to take the plunge the CM9 way with gedeROM.. trust me it has been brilliant.. After the installation I m able to connect initially to wifi.. subsequently when i try connecting to the Wifi it has not been connecting..
I tried EneryROM which also has been giving same issues.. Need your help on this guys..
Also for information sake.. before installing the ROMs.. I wipe the cache, factory reset, Dalvik.. then flash the ROM
Would want to know if any of you guys are experiencing similar issues and if you had been able to get around it..Please find the screenshots attached..
I havent tryed energy but I did try gedeRom never could get it to connect period end of story not that it isnt a sweet rom and the developer has put very excellent effort into it others have had good results. I really dont have a clue why this differs from person to person or rom to rom but I do recall once being able to correct this under advanced connection or by simply not letting or letting google keep a backup of my device. Being in development stage there are little quirks that spring up that dont hold true for all users everyones methodology varies. I couldnt get the new miui to even boot some say to flash at a full charge can fix that problem. The new AOKP has been working very well for me but others have had issues dont know how much is directly related to rom/kernel/ user error at flash. Hashcode has done a briliant job with his kernel and the developers of these roms have too patience is a virtue at this point until some bugs are smashed. For me if I have alot of trouble I simply just move on till a later date then try again the wifi thing kinda is a deal breaker on a kindle without another way to connect to the net.
Edit: at one point there was a mac address problem with the new kernel I believe that was resolved but it gave every device the same mac address which I understand causes some routers to rebel.

You might try just flashing the latest kernel (#8) to see if that helps.

I m running on new kernel only.. donno y it is behaving like that..
But thepooch.. what u said is 100% true..the ROMs are nothing short of brilliance.. infact the icons r much sharper and the system is pretty smooth in CM9.. shd thank Hashcode and the other ROM makers..
I have an SMC router.. planning to test on a friends netgear this week lets see..
I am on AOKP Milestone 5, and WiFi is working fine for me. I just tried disconnecting and reconnecting again; no problem.
A really fine ROM, and yes; Hashcode is a god.

@Vaksen.. I had flashed AOKP yesterday... same problem guess need to check out on a different router..
Anyways on a different note.. Hashcode is definitely God so are the others who create the ROMs for us!!!

3.0 Kernel released on 28th is changing Kindle's WiFi MAC address - you should check MAC filtering policy on your WiFi router. Settings/about/status is the way to find your "new" MAC address. Developers found solution for keeping original MAC address, it will be included in next kernel/rom versions - so do not erase Kindle's original MAC address from router's MAC filter list - you will need it soon.

Thanx.. but i too know that.. my question is I dont have the MAC filtering activated.. so why is it failing then?

Yep.. no respite.. same problem
Ewwh that sucks There's got to be some kind of workaround have you tried advanced connections? Your router is very picky
Its a total shot in the dark but maybe you could try the Hellfire cleaner before you do a fresh flash not the nullifier I'm not totally sure about that one yet. Maybe there is some fragments left behind from your previous flashes that are bottlenecking you? What kind of wireless connection is yours?
I was having similar issues. I think Hashcode's kernels hate certain routers. What kind of router do you have?
My fix was setting my router to run with a static connection instead of with DHCP.
Can you please post a logcat in Hashcode's kernel thread? The issue will get resolved faster.

Router reset with ICS Hashcode 3.0
I have very similar issues you are all reporting. I can use CM7 on my Fire and the wireless works perfect almost all of the time. I gets a little screwy at time, and I just reboot the device and it works fine again for days. When I use any ICS with Hashcode it works GREAT for about 2 days. After that mark, any time i connect with the wireless to my dlink B/G/N router, it will actually reset the router (not settings, just off/on) over and over again. Does anyone know if this issue is being addressed? I am not much of a networking person to know what the Fire could be doing to cause my router to do this, so I am really at a loss.

first of all thank you for viewing,
i have a problem with any rom running CM or gingerbread when trying to join a wireless connection that has a hidden SSID at WPA2 security.
i have no problems connecting to any other wireless connection as long as they are not configure as mention above.
now i would claim that there is a problem with the wireless configuration and the phone trying to handshake with it but this is not the issues with most roms.
because it works fine with most roms but does not with a few other roms i am sure that this is not hardware related.
here is a few troubleshooting steps i have gone through in order to see what is the source of the problem.
1st) i have loaded and tested every radio for the Inc (including the EVO radio) but the problems persist.
2nd) i have loaded and tested a variations of kernels to see if this is a cause of the problem and no luck (i tend to leave the Dev's choice in kernel alone in most cases)
any advise will be grateful please as i am at a lost and with search for people in my same place i have not found any yet.
please someone help i love playing with the Roms but this is starting to kill my experience as being able to connect to hidden and secure wifi is a must for me.
thank you.

silverramsrt,
thank you for the search and post, so what i gather from the 2 other instances of the same problem there is no fix for this as of now other than to broadcast you SSID.
i just cant imagine why would the developer version of Gingerbread does not have this working and i hope some one finds a fix for it or that a fixed version is added to the full release.
i know, i know high hopes.
thank you
You're welcome. It won't be long before one of the incredible devs tackle this. (pun intended)
I wanted to switch to CM7 from Leedroid, which I did. Everything worked fine except I couldn't find my WiFi, So i tried several other Radios, still didn't work. And then I flashed 2 other ROM's, just to see if works. Oxygen and MIUI, still the same problem on both. And later i switched to the ICS Beta ROM. And WIFI worked perfectly, with the same radio as I had before. I could stay with ICS since WiFi worked there, but I need A2SD+ so I won't run out of storage. So I switched to some different version of MIUI called MIUI_Au which I really like and want to keep, has everything I need. But still the same problem (no WiFi). Well, But I wanted to go further. So I tried creating a portable WIFI hotspot on 2 other smartphones. And I was able to connect to both of them. So I think it may have something to do with my router, but we got 3 smartphones and 6 computers connected to it and everything works perfect, it's just my Desire that won't find it.
Full wipe, cache + dalvik cache for every ROM flash. What's wrong?
go closer to the router..... I found CM7 based roms tend to have lower signal strength than sense roms.... might help might not....

Thanks for the reply, but I've already tried that without success..
EDIT: I had CM7 way before Leedroid, and wifi worked perfect.
Does the phone actually see the signal and fail to connect or is it not seeing it at all? Either way, try rebooting the router and the phone and try again and also try disabling security on the router temporarily and see if it will connect. You may also want to check that the router is actually broadcasting a visible SSID and if not then you should maybe try enabling that also.

Can't even find it.. What you mean with "Broadcasting a visible SSID" i can see it's SSID on other smartphones and stuff if that's what you mean. I have not tried disabling the encryption on the router yet, but I had similar encryption on the other WiFi hotspots and it worked perfect. Can flashing older radios help maybe? Thanks.
Whatever, flashed back to Leedroid, maybe not my first choice. But at least the Wifi works, feel free to lock this thread.
Cm is set to see all channels? If you use a higher channel for wifi cyanogen does not see it by default.

Well, had you had the patience to sort your router out (which I'm pretty sure was at fault and not the phone) then maybe you wouldn't need to run a less preferable ROM. Indeed, had you followed my advice and disabled the router security temporarily then we may have had some idea if we were on the right road. Anyway, good luck with your chosen ROM.

Yeah I know, but a family member is going to have the phone from now on, and she doesn't have a 3G card so she really needs WiFi. I'm gonna try fixing it another time maybe, Can you just give a hint on what to do, we say if I disable the security on the router, and it works. what should I do next, I won't leave my router without WPA2 encryption. Thanks

Yay! I had the same issue: everyone else could see the SSID but me and I'm running CM7 (Nexus One). Then I saw your suggestion and discovered a menu I wasn't even aware of(!) and configured CM7 to see all 14 channels and, voila, it works! (Not sure what the default was as neither option was enabled.) THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
P.S. Could anyone please tell me why oh why CM7 has this option and why it is not set to a value that works by deafult?

Is anyone else experiencing this? This has happened to me with a couple of different roms; sfhub's rooted FF18, datajosh's FF18 rooted deodexed rom, and PhantomHacker's ICS FF18 Blazer rom. After I flash a custom recovery like agat's or chris41g's my wifi start not working properly. It will connect fine and work for a little while. I haven't quite pinpointed when it stops working, but after sometime the wifi will just stop bringing down data. This may be happening when the phone goes to sleep. Regardless, it will be connected to the router, but no data is flowing. I need to turn off and then turn the WiFi back on to get it working again. I've tried changing the wifi to disconnect when the phone is asleep, that sort of fixes things, but I'd rather have my phone always connected.
So, do other experience this? Is this a common problem I just have to deal with? Is there a thread somewhere that I'm missing that will help me fix this?
Right now, I'm running an the AOKP milestone 6 rom that came with the TWRP custom recovery and wifi is working properly, but I'm thinking I want to go back to a TW rom but want to figure out this WiFi issue. Any help would be awesome. Thanks!
I'm having the same problem, but only on my home network as far as I can tell. I found a thread elsewhere that proposed it was a problem with using WPA PSK encryption on 802.11g networks and a bug with ICS. The suggested solution was to change your encryption to WPA2 PSK. I did this and thought it fixed the problem, but it has returned a day later.
This doesn't happen when I'm at work, so I think it is some setting on my home network that ICS doesn't like.
I also experience this problem. I'll try messing around with my router tonight. I feel like I also don't have problems at school. So its worth a shot. I'll let you know how it goes.

So, I actually wasn't able to mess around with my router last night. But I'm wondering if this could be a router issue and not a security issue. Out of curiosity, what kind of router are you using? I'm using an old WRT54GL that I really like and suits my needs fine. I just can't believe out of everyone on XDA with an E4GT that most everybody isn't running WPA security of their routers. Similar to you, when I'm at school I'm not experiencing this issue. I'm wondering if I should buy a router from Walmart or something and see if it fixes the issue, return it if it doesn't. Thoughts?

I'm experiencing the exact same issue after loading the FF18 OTA update from stock recovery. Factory reset after update did not correct the issue, Sprint support has not been overly helpful- and went as far to say that correcting the issue may require replacement of the phone, and that I shouldn't accept the ICS update on the new phone if I go that route (not doing that).
Possible Solution
Okay, today I swapped out my wireless router with a dual band wireless N router from netgear. I've had it installed for a couple of ours and so far my WiFi on my phone is working as it should. I've made no changes to my phone. So, this may be a router issue. I don't know anything about hardware, or why this would be happening, but this may be a solution. I'll post an update if the WiFi ever acts up again.

I apologize for resurrecting this thread but, for posterity, i'm also running a WRT54GL v1.1 and have the same problem on two different E4GTs running FF18. I have tried the 4.30.15 cisco firmware after factory reset along with tomato 1.28 (with different SSIDs), both had the same issue (i.e. wifi seems to 'hang' after a few hours. the notification bar shows the wifi signal strength, as well as being connected, but unable to do anything online. this issue only appears to happen when using this router.), which suggests a possible hardware incompatibility. the current fix is to diable/reenable wi-fi, which will work again for a few hours. The router works perfectly will all other devices.
I will poke around a bit tonight and post results if I find anything
UPDATE: I apologize for the wait, but may have a workaround. The phones have since been updated to FH13 and both still had the same problem.
I'm currently using Linksys/Cisco firmware Ver.4.30.15 for my WRT54GL v1.1. In the wireless security section of the web interface, I have changed the security type from WPA2 Personal to just WPA Personal. No other settings were changed. Just to rule out a DHCP issue, I set an IP statically on the phone but this may not be necessary. Since the change I have not had the "connected but not really" problem as described above.
I have had a limited time to test the change, but if the problem persists at least it's an improvement. I will keep the thread updated with what I find.
Yes please keep us posted if you find anything with the settings on the router. i have the same router as you ther WRT54GL and I am experencing the same wifi connected yet disconnected bug. Have to turn it off then back on to make it work right.
I have the same issue. Not sure what the issue is but I never had any problems on Gingerbread.

+1 I too never had any issues with GB 2.3.6. The wifi problem started with ICS FF18 and now too with FH13
Hello all. I have been playing with the new 4.1.2 JB ROMs on my 7100 Note2 and have been having one major and repeatable issue, that I have seen mentioned a few times by others, with no obvious resolution.
I have tried the various leaks of the 4.1.2 that were floating around (the stock one, Wannam and Android Revolution HD 5) and now I have just tried the final Polish PLAY version of 4.1.2 as well as the latest Wannam as well. All do/did the same thing:
They can see my wifi SSID and they can BEGIN to connect and "obtaining IP address" comes up. EITHER they then fail and tell me connection is poor and to try again, or they will connect and then drop within a minute. Just today I made some kind of movement on this by trying different kernels. Perseus25 gives up and tells me signal is poor. Perseus27 WILL actually connect and stay connected but can never actually surf anywhere. Note2Core will either connect or tell me my authentication is wrong (which it isn't) and when connected, it too refuses to surf. RedPill is same as Note2Core. BTW, even when they DO connect, they do so at a measly 5Mbps (and cant find internet)
Now, you are all probably thinking "his wifi is rubbish!" but I REALLY cant see how that can be! Firstly, there are other users out there who have mentioned this in a few threads but I have never seen any useful replies as to a solution (or a cause!). But also, if I restore back to my usual ROM which is Android Revolution 4.1 HD (=JB 4.1.1) with a perseus25 kernel, then I connect immediately and stable at 54Mbps and works great. (all it takes is a CWM restore back and it is working 100%. same location in my office, same router, wifi etc!) Plus same wifi serves two laptops, wife's Galaxy S2, and has seen many iphones, ipads, and other laptops all fine.
Back in the days of the leaked 4.1.2 I DID try jumping wifi channels on the router just to prove a point. Every single one did same thing.
Flashing procedures have been the 'standard' method: boot into CWM, wipe data/cache/dalvik/battery, then flash new ROM, boot OK.
I had assumed that the early leaked version of the ROM had some bug but very disappointed to find same behavior in the Polish PLAY version which is final release AFAIK. It makes all these subsequent ROMs based on it totally useless to me.
I even extracted and flashed the modem.bin from my working ARHD4.1 ROM but nothing changed. So modem and kernel same as working systems but something clearly broken somewhere.
If you are one of the other folks out there who also has this issue, might be helpful if you give some info about your setup, so somebody clever out there can help us join the 4.1.2 club?!
Any thoughts?
(setup: UK VirginMedia 120Mbps down/10Mbps up. Cisco Linksys E4200 router. about 10 feet from router with one 'paper wall' between! ARHD4.1 finds full signal and surfs fast. 4.1.2 totally unusable)
Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi(s), you are my only hope!
I have noticed similar problems on my SGH-i317 using CleanROM 3 (4.1.2). The wireless connection randomly drops while browsing. This happens even in areas with excellent signal quality.

Thanks for contributing. Helps prove the point that it is something in the new ROM as our wifis are fully functional otherwise. I have matched the modem and kernel from my working 4.1.1 system and still failing....
I hope we get some help.
I also got this problem from latest WanamLite & Omega ROM. Both are using 4.1.2 JB.
Wifi detected and connected but always obtaining ip address..
Sometimes it tooks so long and can get ip, but still cannot access internet or can't even ping different ip address from the same network.

strange, i've been running omega 7 to 7.4 but dont have any problems with wifi.
i've connected to home wifi (TP-Link), workplace (Cisco/Linksys) and some coffe-shops without any problem.
most of them using WPA2 or WEP. sometimes obtaining ip address with WEP could take a lil longer about (10-15sec) but always a success.
but never used wanamlite for my note2 so cant comment any, srry
I'm not saying the issue is in the wifi itself, but it can probably be fixed by disabling n mode and only using b and g. Also try to make sure the phone gets assigned a static ip.
Issue seems to be 4.1.2 related.

yes.. i'm also facing the same problem.. whenever i flashed custom rom based on 4.12, like wanam 2.0, 2.1 n crash rom, i cant connect to the wifi.. it always shows optaining ip address and it never connected.. now i m using stock rom 4.11 n there is no problem to connect to the wifi..
i juz wonder why it happens to several devices only?
I having the same wifi problem with 4.1.2 firmware...revert back to 4.1.1 wifi connection run flawlessly..strange !
I have tried switching OFF the 5GHz signal from my modem and sticking to 2.4GHz.
Have also tried turned off N and locked it down to just B & G.
Have tried turning off the WMM in the QoS section.
All of these have been mentioned around the place as possible solutions, and I am afraid none of them changed anything at all for me. Also read that one person had his wifi issues resolved when he dropped WPA2 security and went back down to WEP. This is an unacceptable solution to me as I don't want to make my WiFi so insecure, and also, what happens when I go to my friends and family who all (rightly) use WPA2?! So wont even be trying that.
I am actually getting a new Virgin Media Superhub in about 2 weeks so will revisit the issue then to see if 4.1.2 just doesn't like my Cisco router.
Just weird. And frustrating as wanted to move on to 4.1.2!
have you tried changing the channel on your n router?
Ok. I here is my evo 4G lte story. I flashed cm10 as soon as I got this phone a month and bit ago. I totally had wifi connectivity problems at work and at my house. One worked better and one had to be spammed to connect 20 times to connect and would still occasionally drop. I went to sense is from there and found it to be reliable. Though I just moved to the ota, I find this sense to be just as reliable.
In all. The new ota let me move to jb with reliability.

my problem is that I can connect to my wifi router without issue but then a random amount of time later, sometimes fairly quickly and sometimes it's hours later, I will pick up the phone and see full bars but they are gray and I'm not getting out. I can try opening a terminal window and pinging the gateway/dns servers and can't even reach the gateway.
things I have tried:
- turned off MAC filtering on the wifi AP
- switched from a 5 GHZ wifi on the AP to 2.4 GHZ net on the AP and vice versa
- manually set the phone wifi preference to one or the other (5 or 2.4)
- battery pull on the phone
- delete network settings for my AP and reconfigure
I have not yet tried a static IP config on the phone but I can easily try that... {edited to add} well, I tried static config and that didn't help at all...
one other tidbit of info, I have a work Blackberry with wifi and it never loses wifi connectivity so this is a problem unique to my Nexus.
I'm running Cyanogen 10.0.0-toro and no, I haven't tried a full wipe and reload yet.
thoughts or suggestions?
I'm not trying to threadjack here, but I just wanted to share my experiences.
I've been have the exact same thing happen to my phone (Nexus maguro). I've tried every JB rom I could find, several different kernels and my wifi eventually always goes grey on me. All network activities stop. I'm back on stock everything right now and it still happens.
It happens on my home wifi as well as work wifi.
I'm about to puttstock ICS on my phone and try that out for a couple days.
Anyway, good luck with your problems, i'm going to follow this thread in hopes you'll get a solution that may help me.
If I do figure anything out i'll post back.

seems that this is a topic that has been posted on a bit over time with no real single culprit or fix. I'll post back if I figure anything out... I know in the Cyanogen thread, I saw info that stated that the MAC address of the phone was changing and I'm going to try and determine if that is happening to mine.
I have the same issue. Sometimes even when i pick up the phone, if i look fast enough i see that the Wi-Fi bars weren't even there! Thats only 1 out of 5 times though. The other time its usually just grey bars. Sometimes it actually will click back and they'll flash to blue and grey 2-3 times and then go solid blue. Then sometimes like you, they'll stay grey. I've tried everything too...reverting to stock, Different kernels, ROMs, routers, static IP, 2.4 or 5ghz, full auto mode. The only fix that makes it a little more reliable, is using Wi-Fi PM Fast. But even that, is not reliable. I'd say its about 50% reliable then, for a huge sacrfice in battery life. For me i've noticed this started to happen with 4.2. Before that i never had a problem. All other devices though no problem. My Nexus 7 is just fine. But the galaxy nexus, no matter what router or where i am, the Wi-Fi is totally unreliable. For me, it happens within 2 minutes that it will disconnect most times. Then 1 in 10 times it'll be fine for 10 hours.
In all honesty, i've given up. Just come to deal with it. Use mobile networks when i'm not needing to download. I can download files and stream music just fine too. If there is traffic going through, it never disconnects. But when its just sitting there without traffic, it disconnects, or, loses connection to google servers i should say.
well that's not good to hear...
I installed stock 4.0.4 a couple days ago and have not had my wifi go grey on me yet.

yeah, I love Cyanogen so not willing to go back to stock... waiting for them to finish 10.1 and I guess I'll see how it behaves then.
Hi all,
Just to say that I have the same problem. I have been upgraded from ICS to 4.2 and nothing had happened but I had to downgrade to 4.1.1 (AOKP Build 4) due to other issues and after that I started notice the WiFi problem.
At first I thought it was when the screen went off, but I has happened with screen on too. I have to turn WiFi off and the back on to connect properly again, very annoying.
As I said I started noticing this after I downgraded, but then again, I had used AOKP 4.1.1 before without this issue. I think that it is time to change my phone :/

I'm on Muzzy 4.2.2 and I'm currently having the same problem. It's not a new problem since I remember having it months ago (disabled my phone's WiFi because I kept missing emails and other notifications - grew tired of dealing with it). I thought it was my router, so I swapped it with a newer one recently, but it carried forward (old router was TRENDnet Draft N and the new one is ASUS RT-N66U).
I would like to know how to properly troubleshoot this problem.
I'm glad I didnt have to create a thread for this. I have been facing this problem quite a lot. I can confirm that WiFi works absolutely fine until 4.1.2, whether it is stock or CM10 (I havent tried the other ROMs yet). I have faced this problem only from 4.2. It still exists on 4.2.2. Happens on all the ROMs I have tried till now including CM10.1 nightly as well as the stock factory image.
When the phone is sleeping, it seems to lose WiFi connectivity and when woken up, the WiFi bars is grey though it is full. If I am very lucky, it will turn blue automatically. Most of the times, I have to switch WiFi off and back on for it to connect properly.
Anyone knows the root cause for this? In case this has been discussed in any other thread?

have you posted this information over in any of the threads where the developers are working such as Cyanogen in an effort to bring this issue to the forefront for more visibility?
I have had those wifi problems with every android version and rom I had on my GNex as far as I can remember.
Sometimes it will be able to reconnect but sometimes I have to disable and re-enable wifi to get it back.
I too thought that it might have been my crappy router as I have had multiple problems with it over the years (some Linksys router).
This is really annoying because it won't receive any e-mails until I randomly decide to have a look at my phone. :/

trust me, I understand your frustration... some days, I can go almost all day without loosing wifi data throughput and other days it won't last 10 minutes without going to gray bars.
unfortunately, no one is sharing any fixes which tells me that no one has a good handle on the problem.
Same issue for me on stock Android 4.2.2. Leave WiFi on overnight and when I wake up its connected to WiFi but gray bars...

The update to 4.2.2 drivers have fixed all WiFi issues for me. For the first time since 4.1 I can now use WiFi optimization now. And WiFi is fully reliable.

same thing happened to me on toroplus sourcery 5.1, after trying everything i could think of and talking to one of the devs, i finally did a fresh download of rom and gapps. wiped cache, wiped dalvik, factory reset, wipe system, deleted android folder off of storage then installed the fresh download of rom and gapps and its been working great for me since. hope this helps.

Can you elaborate on this? I've flashed 5 different modems and still get this problem... it happens to my cell service bars, as well. Would love to know what the cause is.

i just know ever since moving to a 4.2.2 kernel that has the 4.2.2 drivers my wifi has been stable. I know there was a post in the anarkia thread with the ak kernel that had the drivers. but i believe most any 4.2.2 kernel would have them implemented. i do have the newest bootloader and radio too. but i know as soon add i got the 4.2.2 drivers all issues were resolved wifi wise. of course i think if you have a 4.2.2 kennel you'll have them.

I'm looking forward to that update - I've been watching the Cyanogen threads for when I think the 10.1 has matured enough to become my daily driver... good to know you've had positive results!
Temporary solution
me facing same issues , Solution would be to use an app called wifi fixer by zanish-g1 from the play store ...
it worked for me !! :good:
