i'm thinking of going with aokp, but it's kinda a "turn off" for me when it comes out with a weekly build and i feel the need to constantly check on the forums and flash to a new one
what's a good one that is just solid that doesn't require a new build update every week?
You can go Aokp because the last stable build is milestone #4 all the other builds that come out are just a nightly.

i understand but having nightly builds makes me feel like i need to constantly upgrade to the newest one
Just... don't update then? If your setup works well just leave it. You can always skip updates.
I'd go with Bamf Paradigm. Uniquely built AOSP rom, stable, and good battery life. Try it for yourself, you'll be amazed
And quality over quantity - no hyper change logs every 4 days, but if you're in for something different, jump in.
if that is such a problem then just flash AOKP Milestones... not AOKP Nightlies + Milestones.
Milestones are for people who don't want to keep updating. These milestones come 1-2 week.
Honestly, if updating a ROM / Kernel is a "turn off" because a developer is maintaining their ROM / kernel at a rate to improve your phone more and more and you don't want to stick with that maybe you should of stayed on stock ROM/kernel? Because this is like me hearing that people are complaining about a dev updating their ROM / kernel way too much.
When you rush through things and do not test enough, you end up missing issues, which ncreases the need to update the rom more frequently.
BAMF Paradigm does not release updates like mad because for every release, we have at least 3-4 testing releases to our beta testers to find and fix bugs. We do not like to consider our users the beta testers.

You basically just said it.
Nightly- not stable and each one builds upon the other and fixes bugs
Stable- completely working, bugs fixed, no problems besides user error

Interestingly, with CM7, the nighties are themselves, very very capable and remarkably stable. Definitely stable enough to be most people's daily driver.
I run nightlues all the time and they are very stable. Much better than rls1 ever was. A full stable should be coming soon though.

Like the people above me said, Nightlies are compiled every night (usually) and aren't considered by Team Douche to be "stable." Oh, and if you file a bug report about something in a Nightly, expect to be burned at the stake.
RC's are a tad more stable than Nightlies (typically) and while they don't include the latest-and-greatest features all the time (ie, RC1 is now outdated and doesn't have WiMAX or the battery percentage in the status bar), you can file bug reports about them and they'll usually get solved.
Stables are just what their name says: Stable. There's rarely any major bugs in them, and when bugs are discovered, a bug report can be filed, and assuming it's not an 1D10T error, gets fixed, and integrated into the next Nightly/RC/Stable, or they'll just make a .1 release (ie, 7.0.0 to 7.0.1 and so on).
Right now though, CM is in feature freeze, so all that's going into Nightlies right now are bugfixes (for example, the WiMAX code for EVO broke a bunch of other phones in weird ways, and the Nexus One has a "wonky" bug). We'll probably see RC2 in a week or two, and then 7.0.0 stable within a month.
Which one is better. Can make up my mind. Happy Easter.
Go for nightly 54. Haven't used my phone much...92% and about 6.5hrs on battery life.
Been riding the Stable for a while. The talk following the immediate nightlies thereafter put me on hold, figure I'll wait it out until drastic changes / additions start happening.
Seems like said issues have been addressed and / or a fix is available. Stable has been running great for me, using Tiamat, and haven't really had a reason to move on.
So long as you avoid the 'bad ones' you should be good.
do you not know the difference, or are you asking what are the benifits of the newest nightly over stable? if so, here's the changelog. http://cm-nightlies.appspot.com/?device=supersonic . happy easter

Use Nightly 54
I have been loving Nightly 54 with gps-test.zip to fix Google Maps. Everything has been running smoother than Stable, good luck!
stable 7.0.1 is out.
Are people flashing too much? I only update my kernel and have kept AOSP 8/21...everything is fine except for a camera blurriness on some shots. other than that I'm happy with it.
I personally just flash the latest AOKP build every night because there's always some cool new feature to play around with each release.

There is no such thing as too much flashing (especially after you've made an IMEI backup).
You're missing out on new features and bugfixes. If you don't care about new features and bugfixes (and reporting them) then you shouldn't have flashed a nightly in the first place. Stay on stock or wait for a stable release.
theres alot of performance and stability fixes in every build that improve battery life and make your phone faster. also only the latest nightly is officially supported so if you have any problems they can't really help you if your not on the latest build
Or you can just do a monthly build which they deem more stable. Thats what I'm using and havent seen any real problems.

8/21 ? Dude, you're missing out.
I love CyanogenMod, I really do. It is constantly improving and the devs working on it obviously work very hard to keep things running smoothly. However, with a codebase this large, constant improvements inevitably leads to a fairly consistent stream of new bugs amidst the improvements. I understand that nightlies are not intended to be used as daily drivers, although usually they are stable enough for most here at XDA.
Acknowledging all of this: I can't help but wish on some days that I could take the excellent skills/care/devotion of the CyanogenMod team and have them devote a fraction of their work to create a pure, optimized AOSP ROM. No mods, no community apps, and (hopefully) no bugs. This would be an incredible stop-gap between the initial build of a new CM nightlie (say, CM11) and the inevitable stable release.
This is NOT a statement against the added mods/apps to CyanogenMod (File Manager, Apollo, DSP Manager, etc.), I am very much of the opinion that these additions are beneficial, even necessary to the growth of CyanogenMod.
I do not expect this to happen, and I especially do not expect them to go back through CM10 and line-by-line strip all of their adjustments/additions. I understand that they are all very busy at work to keep us happy, and I appreciate that. Think of this as wishful thinking from a big fan.
Am I alone in this opinion?
it is called an AOSP rom. in this case vanilla. get a nexus device for that
Obviously, but I think you're missing my point...or you didn't read my post.

Yes, but done by devs that know what they're doing.
Every single dev here knows what they are doing. Plus aosp is easy to compile for any device

I don't see any after a quick search. I've used pure vanilla ROMs on my evo/evo3d and they were pretty terrible. I just assumed, by prior experience and lack of vanilla roms here, that they were tricky.
no, thats just because AOSP roms lack features that people crave from CM or AOKP
Alright, so we're back to my initial post now.
In other words an aosp pure android rom is not people look forward to. Cm10 stable rom is there and probably with like one minor bug or two.

I know how you feel; I wish they would release a stable ROM for those that prefer stability over speed/features
EXACTLY. i love how hard the devs work to improve android and add features but until its possible to get a stable rom with these features I'd prefer simple, pure vanilla with all work going towards stability. Maybe I'll start on that one day

You can't ask for optimization with stability. The nightlies are there because that's what they're trying to achieve, if it's not stable enough for you - don't use it. Go back to TW. That's the closest to pure stable for this device you're going to get. There are -always- bugs, even in the most fine tuned software, because it's all about what the user puts on their devices and how it interacts with the system.
Plus, not too long ago CM released the CM10 Milestone 2. It's stable enough for daily use. Give that a shot. If it's not to your liking, pull CM's device tree into a freshly synced repo of AOSP and compile it. See how easy it is to get it working.

this is true, but i'd be using this with mostly stock software + social network feeds and games only
the milestones are a great idea, and probably the closest thing im going to get to this, but they are still snapshots of mostly stable aosp with many many tweaks to keep modifications that i may or may not use stable. not exactly ideal, but thanks for the suggestion. i'll probably stick with the newest m build when it is ready.
im not asking for cms device tree compiled as it is, or anything at all. im just hoping that before or adjacent to cm11 getting going with mods and tweaks that they will release builds tailored to vanilla and nothing else, concentrating only on bugs before adding things and testing them and adding things and breaking things and testing them and so on and so forth. i feel im not communicating this efficiently and im sorry

Does the bottom mic work on M2? What about the data drops that constantly happen? Does it transition well from LTE to 3G, vice versa?
And these are serious questions, I'm not trying to be a [email protected] at all.
I have a 20 month old baby girl so I do a lot of video recording, so the bottom mic is important to me since the top one doesn't pick anything up unless you're basically speaking directly into it. I do a lot of business through my phone, so a reliable data connection is obviously very important too. I've had BB6 on my phone for about a week now, and I absolutely love it...with these two exceptions. It seems they're both problems with all AOSP ROMs. If they get fixed sooner rather than later, there will be zero reason to have TW ROM for me.
EDIT: And GPS seems to take quite a bit longer to lock on compared to TW.

I was using m2 for quite a while before I switched over to bb6. In my time playing with m2 I found that video recording was fine and data connectivity took about 10 seconds longer on a reboot. Other than that I've experienced no data drops.
To add to this, YMMV. I'm not sure if my phone is different somehow but I've never had any of these problems that people describe with data drops at random.
Edit:
Also, as far as lte/3g hand off goes, I'm unable to test as I'm not in an lte area. As for GPS, it takes about 7 seconds to lock on in a room with no windows. Tested on slimbean, so again YMMV

Just try looking into building aosp from source its really not that hard it will just take some time. You could even use the device tree for d2spr from cm so you really will just be using pure stock

Hi,I just have a few questions I would like to ask
1. Is there any battery drain?I know the factory 4.2 rom has it , but how about PARANOIDANDROID?
2. In 2.54,there's a "cm colour" option under advance settings , is that option still available in 2.99?
Thanks
The battery drain is going to be there on 4.2 depending on how you have your Google services set up regardless of rom.
As to #2, it is now aosp based, and some cm tweaks are being merged in. It may or may not make it in. Right now their focus is on working toward the stable release.
Remember, 2.99 is beta, and although very usable as a daily driver, isn't quite what the devs feel is suitable as a final product. If stability and optimal battery are paramount, you might want to refrain from flashing beta software. Conversely, if you want to live on the bleeding edge and are willing to live with a bit of instability, betas are a good peek at what you might be able to expect in the upcoming stable release.

Thanks for the prompt reply,I think there is a misunderstanding here.
Where I said "cm colour" , I meant the colour profile which PA 2.54 came with. Now I know that PA 2.99 has a new kernel, I just want to ask if that particular profile is still there.
Is there anyone who had tried PA 2.99 knows whether there is a significant battery drain?
Thanks again though.
Its not just a new kernel. The rom is built from an entirely new base. It was previously based on cyanogenmod 10, but is now using soap as a base. As such, its not going to have many of the cm tweaks that were present in 2.54 and earlier. Some, but not all, may eventually make their way into the stable release, which will be PA 3.0.
As for battery drain, yes. Its essentially a given with 4.2. If you check battery stats, Google services are the generally the culprit.
As I've said PA 2.99 is beta software, and various bugs should be expected.

Haven't experienced any battery drain, but i agree it would depend on your user settings, etc.
