choosing A HOX - HTC One X

I am thinking of buying a Htc on x from Dubai , since one of my reletives is going for few days ,
I there a certain serial number of the new devices , that have less faults in it , and how can he know if the camera ring black or reddish or is that execlusive to one country .
The differnce in price will be around 100 $ or even more .
If that i a wrong place , sorry for that
and Hamdir cant you make thread to what to check for before getting the device
sent from Hp touchpad CM9

unless you're rich, then buy the cheapest deal. i got mine for 619usd and slow shipping, so i won't have it until Tuesday. i've never seen a One X with a red ring and i wouldn't have wanted one if it had one. red is my least favorite color. the only thing about specific countries is possibly waiting a few more days for official updates.

the issues are listed in the build defects poll thread
HT243 seems the newer batch around right now, i'm superstitious of HT242
SH chinese had much less complaints
there is no red ring it was a question pre-release, the final grey has a metallic camera ring that appears different depending on the lighting really nice looking so don't worry

[Q] How to Identify Motorola Defy with No speaker Problems?

I am hearing that Motorola Defy had Speaker issues and that was resolved by Motorola in Newly Manufactured sets..
I am getting a New Defy here for 300$ WIHTOUT warranty so I am concerned that how would I know that its the newly manufactured set or the Old one with Speaker issues..
Any Serial number, Version number etc that I can check before buying to check if its Prob free and Newly manufactured?
Don't know. Mine is a year old and has it. Also 300 dollar seems a lot for a second hand defy with no warranty. Bought my defy second hand for €210 (280-290$) with warranty and that was a year ago. Don't think you can really tell by the IMEI number.
But look at this:

thanks Mate..
well its Brand New imported set but falls in no warranty... Cost is almost the same i.e 280$.. its just that I rounded the figure...
So I have to look for Blue Dot or BF etc thing...
I didn't heard about this issue
If you search around you'll see there are supposedly certain indicators of a
"safe" phone: certain dots under the battery, a red lens as opposed to a green one. Still, I occasionally read of new ones failing anyway. Mine was bought in the US (T-Mo phones seem to have a lower number of failures) right after they came out. So, I don't have the magic dots and I have the dreaded green lens. But, mine has performed perfectly.

Really considering this, my first Android was the DHD and loved it. Been on the SGS2 since launch but this One X something about it that is making me want it.

I would go for it (well, obviously I would say that as I have pre-ordered it!)
However, the only issue for me has been battery life but with mobile chargers I decided that wouldn't be an issue. If you are not fussed about getting it on release, you could simply wait for the S3 announcement and decide between the two - although the One X camera will be hard to beat imo - the features anyway.
I've "registered my interest" with Vodafone. They're going to call me when it's available. Hopefully I'm one of the 1st in the queue.
not due for an upgrade until mid May, so I'm going to hold out to see if any major issues appear before I either upgrade or jump ship to another provider.
about 98% sure I will be getting one though
I think the options of the poll don't cover everything, my selection would be:
No, but considering to pre-order very soon...
I'm not 100% sure what is stopping me... I'd like to see an official announcement about beats, I'd be interested to know if the deluxe set would be released in UK, I'd like to know for sure what the final price would be (I'm going to be purchasing phone sim free).
I'm also changing companies in 5 months time and maybe they have different policies on phones so maybe I should wait... but then I could always sell it...
Also when I bought my HTC Desire maybe 6 months later they announced the Desire HD, so part of me also wonders if a new flagship will be released in 6 months time and maybe I should wait as I'm not in desperate need of a new phone... but on the other hand I cant think of anything that I need that isn't on the HTC One X and if I did buy it then I plan on it being my phone for the next 2 years.
The HTC One X looks good, I would really like to get back to Android sooner or later (WP7 is not for me...), I really want a HTC phone so GS3 is not an option for me.
So I'm more than likely going to pre-order I just haven't hit the submit button yet...

Firstly, apologies I didn't think of the million different potential options.
Also, if you wait for the "next best thing" all the time, you will NEVER get a new phone?

I use clove.uk. Handtec is good as well although they take your money upfront and lie about when it will be released. There is no tax. Clove.uk will send DHL for a minimal rate. Prices are very similar. There are other options as well.
I purchased from eBay on a pre-order auction from a reputable seller. The reason I did this is because I had a 10 percent off coupon for the electronics category. I ended up getting a black one out the door for 656 including shipping.
Suddenly I am interested in the S3, if the March 30th event is to be believed..
Still got my One X on pre-order - would anyone cancel and swap to the S3 if it is good enough?
Yes, the grey version!
I find it hard to wait for 2 weeks. Im looking forward
till the first real reviews!
Yeah!
i pre-ordered it on CLOVE TECHNOLOGY in UK (grey version) and is more cheapest than other sites
In Netherlands the price is already as low as € 545 excluding shipping. I wonder what price does after the release? I really want it. I think even though high price it must be worth. Ofcourse when waiting the price will go down, but keeping mine evo 3d until the price is dropped by like maybe € 100 then mine Evo 3D would be dropped in price even more.

Meh... I prefer HTC, but it isn't that simple. The GS2 produced arguably one of the best dev communities ever. That phone was spec'd out like a beast too. While I don't believe it was/is the end all be all, it deserves a lot of the attention it gets. Samsung put a lot of good hardware in, and they also ship their phones with unlocked bootloaders. Unlike HTC that is becoming less and less dev friendly...

BNew HOXes - build quality

Hi,
I am getting ready to buy a HOX as the S3 is not to my liking.
As we all know some of the first HOXes had build quality issues like yellowish screen spots, cracking of the outer shell and screen, and flickering.
I am wondering if HTC has successfully adressed those issues yet. Could new owners please report their build quality (please no early adopters anymore).
Please report any issues (also please report if you don't have any) and your device color (as it seems to indicate country of production).
Surely more ppl than just myself are curious to know if HTC has addressed the issues.
Thanks for your kindness in sharing your experiences.
All the best.

there are more fine HOX's then defects, people with problems are more vocal then those without, if you worried don't buy either and get a different phone.
my first had a dead pixel i got 2 days after release i got a replacement on the 3rd day and it is perfect.

thanks. I've asked because I've looked at one in a local store. It cracked and had a noticable annoying yellow spot on the screen. Also HTC had promised to address the issues. I'm just wondering how production of the devices improved...
got my HOX 11 days after the uk release and i have had no issues whatsoever. The build quality is htc standard aswell, plastic phone but damn good quality sturdy plastic lol. none of the samsung rubbish
i love my one x and nth is wrong with it its just the battery. what pisses me off is that the S3 has the same dimension a bit different and same wight just 3g difference and they have a 2100 mAh battery, what would have happened if HTC did that God !!!! im sorry im just really pissed just saw this
please make sure other than that i love the phone it works great i have nth to say more than its 99% great just battery life and if i have to recomend someone to get a phone it is the HOX for lots of reasons !!!
my answer for u is go ahead and buy the HOX its a great phone !!!
chances of a fauly one?
The build quality issues are the only thing stopping me getting one too. They are about $100 cheaper to buy on ebay than in a store (buying outright) but would be a real pain to have to ship back and forth if it was faulty. What do you think the chances would be of getting a fauly one? or worth the extra money to be able to return it the same day ?

I've seen 3 different one x and they all had issues and my latest is from a newer batch and it have flickering, screen issues and a low lit back button. Most people that are happy with their handsets either are the kind that dont look for flaws or fanboys, as youve started this thread i guess youre not that kind. I think all phones have flickering in some degree but most people dont see it. The amount of faulty hoxes is way too frequent. You should listen to those who put their phones under a microscope if you want an objective opinion.

I dont know why people keep say things like "why can company A do this but company B can't?" It makes no sense at all. Just because Motorola can make an awesome battery or S3 has a bigger battery so HTC HAS TO be able to do the same thing. Well, apparently they cant. Their technology doesnt allow them to do that, and it's ok. No need to get worked up about it. If their stuff doesn't live up to your expectations then feel free to not buy them. It's YOUR money, YOUR phone, YOUR decision.

SO now the dozens of people who have faulty handsets on XDA (look at the poll) represent the market?
I got mine on release day here on the UK (5th April I think) - I've not had any issues with mine, no flickering, no spots, no creaking etc.

I also got mine early, on friday before the offcial release date in germany.
My HOX is perfectly. No screen flickering, no yellow ****, screen cracking etc.
Got my UK HT23 One X on release day from Phones4U and have the flickering screen issue. I wonder if the HT24 versions have the issues people are having? Can anyone confirm this?
Mine is perfect as well

My One X is perfect(there is a chance the screen flickers and i have umpteen dead pixels but i need to borrow a microscope to make sure.) I have no creaks, rattling noises,no gaps between body and screen.I`d give it a 10/10 but downgrade it to 9/10 because i can`t get used to the volume controls on the right hand side.
I bought mine a week after release.

Mine is perfect too. Mine is an SH23 model, and if you do some research you'll find very contradicting evidence of HT (Taiwanese) or SH (Chinese) models being worse. All I can say is mine has no physical defects.

I got two HT243 phones one after the other, the first on the 17th of April, had a yellow band on the top left of the screen, a small gap on the left with the associated creacks and flex and the deal killer, Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
After 4 days, gave up and had it exchanged - the next was and still is perfect. Ten days after I got it, I unlocked it and am now experimenting with custom Roms.
This is my 5th HTC handset in as many years, all lived and worked in perfect state untill they got sold. I am confident my HOX will live up to the expectations.
The only drawback I really find is the battery, indeed, as this is a device that craves to be used, it's unexplainable, but I feel I cannot let it down. Bear in mind it's my fourth week with it already. Htc should have given us the option for a replaceable power pack.
So I suggest you get your unit from a retail store, so that you can examine the device beforehand, at least for the physical defects described on this forum.
.... Or make sure you have a later model HT245... HT25...

The "3" in HT23 means it was built in March. "4" = April, and so on. HT = Taiwan and SH = China in terms of where the phone was built. There have been perfect March-build phones and phones built in May with issues. Same thing for whether a phone was built in Taiwan vs. China. There's no clear pattern. I have a perfect (knock on wood) HT23 that was built in early March that I've been using trouble free for over two months.
HTC uses two different manufacturers to produce the One X display; Acer and Sharp. The Acer display is cool and the Sharp warm. Side-by-side the Sharp does have a yellow ting compared to the Acer. Some people actually prefer the warmer display.
There's an issue that can occur where the glass, which is laminated to the display, can separate in places and show up as yellow spots. This could be out of the box or happen over time. It's hard to say how many phones it's happened to but based on the low level of participation in the thread for it I'd guess less than 10% of phones are affected.
As for the Wi-Fi issue, 160 people in the thread discussing it reported their phone was experiencing the problem. Even if you double that to account for lurkers, against about 5,000 owners in this forum, it comes out to about 6% of phones that are affected. The "fix" HTC is putting in place is simply a spacer to prevent compression of the Wi-Fi contacts if there's pressure put on the back of the phone. Many people in the Wi-Fi thread have been pushing on the backs of their phone to see if they had the problem and may have given it to themselves in the process. If it concerns you, hold off purchasing until an HT/SH27 is available as the fix will be introduced in to production this month.
No matter what you read, there are for more people without issues than those that have them.

vertical lines screen

Had new htc 10 today before turning the device on i noticed lines running down the screen vertical under the light , but as ive seen this before with other devices i wasent to bothered.
Now im running my brightness at 60% because im not keen on the auto brightness settings and i think they make the screen look quite poor. The screen looks nice at 60% but that being said you can see these vertical lines running down the screen on white backgrounds .... anyone else noticed this ....... feel a bit underwhelmed with the screen at the moment due to this.
I had the exact same thing although now I can't see them anymore. It may have just been when I was sat out in the sun.
I literally just noticed them for the first time today. I have to hold it at an angle in bright light to see them though. I can see them when the screen is off too. I can see them if I really try on a white background, but if I don't look for them I don't see them.
I have these too - it looks like a digitizer thing.
Just been to a store. Store unit does not have it. Can we get more people reporting in please? Mine is the black unit, UK..
--- Or it might ----
I am not certain. Can we have more users confirm existence or not of it?
Just got out of a three store. Put my unit to the demo one side by side. Demo one did not have it. Manufacturers flaw. Mine is going back to HTC uk

BTW thread is really long
an issue
Hi all, this is definitely a real issue.. I got my HTC 10 in the UK after ordering from the HTC website, and immediately noticed the faint white lines running down the screen... its unacceptable.
I sent it back to HTC and its currently 'in repair' - the guy told me there have been no reported issues with the HTC 10 so far . I've since gone into O2 store on oxford street to have a look at the display model - that had the same problem as mine!! So I thought ok what the hell, its such a poor screen why have none of the reviewers been complaining about it. But then went into EE store in stratford today and their display model does NOT have the same problem.
So don't know whether its due to a faulty batch or different screen as people in the other thread are mentioning, but whatever it is, its pretty disappointing from HTC. you pay £500+ and get a crap screen after preorder... wheres the quality control!!

Exactly...
I think it also comes down to whichever colour you choose...The discussion in the thread above links to all sorts of issues with these panels - However, O2 does not ship the Htc 10. So I am not sure how exactly you saw that in their Oxford street?

yes you are right actually, it was carphone warehouse not o2 shop that I saw it in. It was the one behind selfridges near Bond Street. One of the frustrating aspects actually has been I couldn't find any shops with a working display model of the HTC 10 to compare my pre-ordered handset with. Mine (and the two I checked in shops) have all been the black model.
