[Q] Radios - Included in ROMs or flash separately? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello all,
Just upgraded to a Verizon Galaxy Nexus from an Incredible yesterday. Was having a few connectivity issues, so wanted to try running some aftermarket ROMs/radios/etc before I pursued replacing the phone altogether.
I just flashed LiquidSmooth v1.3 (+extras), and was wondering if flashing a 4.0.4 ROM includes updated radios automatically (versus the stock VZW 4.0.2) or if I need to flash these separately from the ROM? I never had any issues with my DInc radios, so never messed with it and thus have no experience.
Is the radio called the "Baseband" in the phone info screen? I feel like it was actually called "radio" on my DInc, so I'm a bit confused. If so, my version is I515.10V.EK05/I515.EK02.
Thanks for any info!

I have a GSM Nexus but i think its the same. Usually roms doesnt have radio when flashed. But u can flash any radio after flashing the rom.
Radio = Baseband. The newest its LC1 (L=2012, C=March)
Im writing this post cause i havent 10. Im new in this forum but not in development Knowledge, and i consider its a stupid rule. Im sorry if i write any Irrelevant post.

Thanks, I will look for a new radio to accompany this ROM.

[SOLVED] ROM or Radio first?

Hi there.
Erm.. this is kinda weird question, say that the ROM that you wish you flash requires a different radio from your current one, will you actually flash the new radio first then only the ROM?
Or you will flash ROM then only radio. Will there be any impact?
ROM first.
9 times in 10 it won't make any difference but there's a chance a ROM might replace the radio anyway.
Thanks Mr_JMM!
I think it doesn't matter..You only need to match your libhtc-ril and radio....

Yes, ROM first.
Mods: This thread can be marked solved and closed now I think.
However....
SOME ROMs when going from certain radio's to certain radio's have had reports that it is better to flash the radio before the ROM.
This seems to have cropped up with the latest GB Sense ROM's.
So I take it back, as a rule of thumb, flash ROM first, I still stand by that, however, check with the ROM first but be aware such things are usually buried deep in a thread and maybe something that gets fixed with later updated versions of that ROM.
Again. ROM first but when a brand new ROM comes out, specifically the new GB Sense ROM's, check the first 5-10 pages.
At time of post, LeeDroid's ROM v3.0.0 is one such ROM that might work better with Radio flashed first.
My apologies but this info is very very recent.
OK, that could make sense. Thought I stepped in deep doo-doo earlier, but rocked back to life with the nan backup. Scared me all to hell, but I might try flashing the radio, then LeeDroid. When coming from CM7 rc3 - It froze on boot.
I did radio first them ROM and had no issues.

All custom roms will have a bug or two. There is no prefect rom and there never will be. IF you want a rom that just works stay stock. This is not a rom site it is a development site. Which means we like bugs cause then we can learn to fix them on our own.

Where can I get the 4.03 update for cdma GNEX?

I need this update as 4.04 wasnt working how I think it should have.

There was 4.0.3 update, and the 4.0.4 update was just a leak (only official for GSM model). The only way to get 4.0.3 is from a custom ROM that was built from 4.0.3 source.
There was never a 4.0.4 leak for CDMA. Only the radio dropped.
4.0.4 is only OFFICIALLY on GSM...but the source dropping means we can rip literally everything from it but the radios on our CDMA version.
Here are two 4.0.4 stock rooted roms.

http://rootzwiki.com/topic/17412-romleak-p3droid404odexdsutweaked-updater-script-thx-to-nocoast/
I can't seem to find any 4.0.3...
But what seems to be the problem that you're having with 4.0.4 that you didn't on 4.0.3?
My issue is volume+ doesnt work.
Just tested.
Works fine with Lean Kernel 3.2.1 stable...as long as the volume increase supposed to be pretty minimal. Never bothered with it before.
Try that?

if the 4.0.4 cdma roms are just official 4.0.4 gsm roms with radios ripped out, what is the difference between those two 4.0.4 roms you linked? also, what radios will I have if i flash one of those two roms in your post? i just got my gnex so i'm on stock 4.0.2 right now. i'm having some issues with my reception dropping and reconnecting after 5-10 seconds quite frequently and i'm not entirely sure what i should be trying to change to remedy the problem.
thanks for the insightful post

I'm not sure of the exact differences besides post date and developer.
Potentially none: Haven't scanned the threads.
These won't change your radios...
Here is a link:

These can be flashed in CWM.
I personally use the 4.0.4's.

You're mistaken. There was indeed a 4.0.4 CDMA leak back in February (Build IMM30B). I have been running said leak since it hit XDA. You had to be completely stock to flash it through stock recovery and it included new radios and a new bootloader.
The 4.0.4 CDMA radios running around were ripped from that same 4.0.4 CDMA leak.

I had completely forgotten somehow about Axiom...and whatever else...was running off of this leak.
You're correct!

what differences are there between the 4.0.4 CDMA leak youre referring to and the two 4.0.4 roms posted above, if any? is the 4.0.4 CDMA leak youre referring to an update or full ROM like above?
Full rom.
Just not compiled from source.
4.0.4 from source was released much more recently...
And Google provided "hundreds" of bug-fixes with it.
I'd recommend the Google-source base.

quick newbie question i suppose is kinda off topic.. i guess i'd just like some clarification. do the roms themselves contain the radios in them? for instance, if I flashed a custom rom, would my phone's radios be automatically changed to whatever that custom rom dev decided to use in his rom?
additionally, individual radios are also available to swap out without altering roms, correct?

Do I need to be running 4.0.x to run that 4.0.x radio? For example, if I try to run IMM30B, do I need to be on 4.0.4 ROM? also, what do people mean by make sure to check the MD5?
really appreciate all the help!!
No problem at all man.
And no.
Radios are interchangeable.
MD5 checks make sure you got a good download.
For example:
bd63961006aa65e88100017bab2c7fbb
http://synibox.info/synik4l/razorloves/4.0.4Radios.zip
If you download directly on your phone...quite a few applications can verify MD5's.
Root Explorer...Rom Toolbox...Pretty much any file manager.
Most you must long-press the file, and click "properties."
It should pop up a MD5: __________________________.
If it matches, it's safe to flash.
If not...delete it and re-download.
There are also quite a few free MD5 checkers available for your PC if you download on the PC and then transfer.

great will def check before flashing. lastly, my issue is this: i have strong signal where i live (i think its strong anyway, shows up as usually 3bar, never drops below, and a lot of times 4 full bars of 4G) but i notice it just drops all signal for about 5 seconds.. then my bars come back and a few seconds later my 4g bars come back after that.
what exactly is happening to my phone during this process? is this what people are referring to as hand off or is that simply changing between 4g to 3g, or 3g to 2g? is my issue something different, as in just dropping signal altogether?
finally, is there a specific radio you think i should try or could my problem possibly be a ROM problem? i'm on stock out of box 4.0.2 ROM and ICL53F

New Nexus Just Ariived - Next Steps?

UPS just dropped off my new Galaxy Nexus (didn't want to wait for the new ones, $349 seemed decent, unless it drops a ton, no regrets, don't need the latest and greatest, etc...). I've got a Nexus S I'm going to give to my kid, who's on a RAZR v3 right now. I'm on AT&T US.
I'm familiar with all the advanced Android stuff, running a Nexus 7 with Rasbean Jelly and Franco/Trinity...but I've only done a phone once (the Nexus S) and I had some problems with Baseband showing NO DGS XXXXXX and no signal, but got it working finally by flashing Rasbean and the latest baseband.
I obviously want this to go as smooth as possible. Right now it is at ICS 4.0.4 and I haven't connected it to WiFi yet, or put the Sim in it from the Nexus S. I've written down the IMEI and Baseband (It's not the latest UGLH, but I have that, and the RIL).
Should I unlock/root/recovery (TWRP) and flash Rasbean first, and then stick the SIM in...or should I start it up with the SIM and accept any OTA that comes? Then do the above?
Do I need to call AT&T and give them the new IMEI?
I plan on switching to Straight Talk, and I know I need to put in the IMEI. The ST Sim should be here any day. I'm confused about what IMEI I need to give them when they port over my number...the currently up and running Nexus S that AT&T has in their records, or the GNex (after calling AT&T)?
What steps would you guys do if you were doing the above?
Thanks,
RF

Stay stock and test it out for a bit. That way when you flash a rom and something goes wrong you wont blame the developer for a hardware failure.
I would accept the OTA to get the latest firmware (bootloader, recovery, radio, etc) & I agree with Darunion, stay stock for a little while & make sure everything works before flashing a custom ROM
Ok, connected to WiFi and got pushed JB 4.1.1 JRO03C. Didn't check the bootloader, Radio stayed the same at I9250XXLF1.
RF
Should be another OTA coming to upgrade to 4.1.2 (JZO54K)
Thanks for the help. Went all in, couldn't wait. Rasbean Jelly 4.1.2 UGLH1 Radio and RIL. Running like a top.
Thanks again,
RH

It's always a good idea to use the stock ROM for a while first before you flash a custom ROM. It makes you appreciate the features of the custom ROMs a bit more.

[q] need help upgrading gnexus

Hey Guys,
First off, thanks to all the devs on here for working hard! Without you guys, we wouldn't be anywhere on our phones.
I haven't flashed my GNexus in a year now.
I am currently running 4.2.1 (JellyBean) JBSourcery-V4.3 and my radio bandwith is I515.10 V.FF02/1515.FG02
I would like to update this bad boy to the latest Radio, as well as run a bug-free ROM/Kernel.
I know that JBSourcery didn't create roms for KitKat. But I did love their work and will miss them!
What would you guys recommend?
Btw, I have the GNexus with Verizon Wireless!
Thanks!:fingers-crossed:
P.S. - Any links to the downloads would help out so much!
In addition, should I flash the Radio first and then the ROM/Kernel?
How do I flash again? It's been over a year I haven't flashed and don't want to brick my phone as I am going from JellyBean to KitKat.

I'm not sure about the radio as that is not something I am familiar with, but a quick snoop around XDA lead me to the main GNexus Q&A forums (
http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help) and this thread which includes a section about installing ROMs, Kernels and Tweaks (http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/help/guide-ultimate-nexus-4-root-guide-t2018179)
Thanks for your response!
However, I'm still trying to figure out when I am going from JellyBean to KitKat, how am I supposed to install a radio/ROM/Kernel?
I read those instructions and I think it pertains to only if your on the same operating system (like going from JellyBean to JellyBean).
Also, I'm not sure if I should update the newer VZW radio or should I keep the one I am on? (I515.10 V.FF02/1515.FG02)
Can anyone else please help me?
