Got a quote back from HTC to replace my shattered screen. The price for a new screen is £89. Total cost of my repair which included replacing the damaged back is £169. Ouch!

How did you get that quote for a damaged screen? I was quoted £200 for the screen alone, other than the glass itself which is shattered it works perfectly.
Hope it won't start flickering in 1 week bro,l that screen replacement is probably from the "vanilla" batch.
If it's actually the screen that is the problem and not some other component....

you could recoup most of that cost on ebay if you are unable to return it for a refund, so a sensible question.

Return it under the manufacturers warranty, no point keeping it if you don't get it repaired by them at their expense.

It's not the display, it's either Teg3 physical anomalies or driver issues. Nvidia's drivers and low-level code are proprietary so HTC's dependent on them for a fix. It'll be fixed via updates; it took four on the Asus Prime to alleviate similar issues.
As for "garbage company," the One XL isn't having these issues so HTC's biggest fail was picking Nvidia's Teg3 for the non-LTE One X. It doesn't let them off the hook but I highly doubt they'd have made that choice knowing the issues it was going to create for their customers. Or released a flagship phone that was to be their salvation knowing a percentage were going to have such visible issues. It is odd that it wasn't caught in testing and that none of the professional reviewer's units had it.
As for 169GBP, Samsung charges 200GBP for a screen replacement on the SGS2 so it's not all that bad.
I paid R1300 for a screen replacement for my old SE K800i so screen replacements seem to be a pricey exercise.

And you could choose the screen you want? Acer or Sharp?
Didn't get a choice of screen, just a quotation breakdown. Screen totally shattered. They actually quoted £89 for that before VAT. £20 for labour. Also changing the back of the phone as it was scraped and the camera lens was damaged.
The £169 was for all that and the courier collection and return

Why is so many people saying "Acer or Sharp"? We don't know which companies made the screens for one x? Just because it was those two for Sensation doesn't mean One X has the same. Wasn't there a test before the phone came out that comfirmed IPS, and at the same time they said it was a samsung panel? (most likely the warmer one) and then I would guess that the other one is a LG. I believe this mostly becuase I know they are known for colder (and more color-correct) dispays and they acutally make 4.7" 720p ips-panels and also because the viewing angels are less good on the colder one, just like LG's usually are. But I don't know, no point in guessing. This just seem most logical, since I haven't even seen acer or sharp ips-panel in this size, in any resolution.

Yeah, you could "adb pull /proc/last_kmsg kmsg.txt" and in there it should say "panel_id=". All I know is "0x294000f" is the warm one (Samsung?) and "0x4940014" is the cold one (LG?).

Ouch, that sucks man! Honestly, it's probably not worth the cost of repair if that's as bad as it is. My Infuse is my daily phone and it's screen is shattered far worse than that. One crack, even going across the screen isn't too bad when replacement could be very pricey, and you may just crack it again.
I saw another thread on this and it sounds like the LCD is glued to the glass, which makes it very difficult to separate without breaking the LCD as well. Your best bet may be to send it in for replacement. Doesn't look like there's a whole lot of info on fixing the screens on these yet.
This is exactly why I just signed up with insurance today on mine. I always end up with cracked screens some how, and I'm usually very careful. Even with the insurance though, there's a $75 deductible, and I don't know if it'd be worth it still for just one crack.
UK repair is £145.
no other places in the UK other than HTC did it a couple of weeks back because they couldn't source the parts. told them i coule provide them with it but they weren't willing to do it
mine cracked after two weeks, worked perfectly, but there were hundred of cracks across the screen. no way was i willing to live with it for 2 years
Thanks for the reply, the irony was I was holding it in the case not realising it was upside down then BOOM dropped onto Brick paved driveway
Fully expect to have to pay for screen replacement surely HTC must offer some service / support?

I sold my htc amaze a few months ago to buy the n9 and im getting tired of not having any app selections (it was cool at first), and the one x looks pretty sick. found someone on craigslist that is willing to trade but he dropped the phone and the screen doesn't turn on. he has a new digitizer for it but not an LCD. They aren't too expensive on ebay (found one for like $40). he said the phone turns on and everything works (capacitive buttons, sound, etc). The thing im worried about is if it has water damage, is there any way to find out? and if not do you guys think its worth it?
thanks
edit: nevermind did more searching on the water damage indicator and found it. still would like to know your opinions/advice though
A screen repair requires the digitiser and LCD. Just do a search for broken screen threads here.

Official ones come as one unit and cost more. It'll cost about 150 UK pounds for official repair. Factor that into your cost, and the fact that it's second hand, and the fact you can't test it properly... Is it worth it? I doubt it, but a working One X is an incredible device.

Hi to all, today besides it looks like Friday 13th. (my car broke down) I took after I dropped my HTC One X my phone from the service with a new display.
After 2 hours I have been called and saw that the display again is broken from the left side, near the usb towards the top, (power button) is a line and cracked.
I really don't know and paid much money today and to pay again?
Could this happen or should I blame myself?
I always take good care of the phone and always carry it in my side pocket which is wide enough...
Can anyone advice me what to do?
If you are 100% positive that the screen was intact when you got it out from the service, you should take it back and council with the person who serviced the phone. It there are no signs of physical abuse or anything, you should have some kind of warranty on the display or at least on the changing service.

thank u for the reply..the service will not give me a new one..but is the display so sensitive? i mean could it break by wrong installation?
Are you sure it was completely perfect at the service center? Did you inspect your phone whatever the screen was replaced correctly or there were any cracks from the beginning?
There's not much you can do over here... You can tell them what happened and ask for replacement but I'm not sure they will replace it for free...

Thank you!! Great and I ordered a new display there and the price is much cheaper than the price offered here in Skopje, Macedonia.
But still 1 question how to recognize a clone from an original screen?
What I noticed is that the screen replaced on my phone is slight smaller as at the bottom part I can see the led light trough the house shining.
Also the left < is not shining while the home and > button is lighting.
The time before (when it has been replaced also) I had the same problem. At daytime its hard to notice but at night its very clear that only 2 buttons are lighting up.
Hahahahaha epic fail.......cough goo cough gle is cough your best friend.
here you can see my broken screen and the navigation button which is not lighting up
That has been the same case with the other replacement.
Also the crack is at the same position as the last one
I paid 100 euro for this one.

Ok here my last try as in the 3 days I did not get any answer, it might be that this issue is unknown?
Anyway one more try..
My HTC One X broke now a couple of times and the last time it broke at the same space as before, again I did not drop it
At the bottom I can clearly see a small open space and the 3 navigation led light shining although the navigation arrow on the left (see attached picture) is not lighting up and at night it can't be seen.
The main reason for this topic to get more informed and to put a claim at the mobile phone service and to get my money back.
Also looking at Ebay for a screen replacement it looks like a jungle as all are claiming to sale original displays but again prices are from 45 - 150 euro's. Is there some way to recognize a none (clone) original screen from a original?
Again sorry for this chain of mine on this topic but i just wonder why twice my display cracked at the same place.
It's just a coincidence that the screen broke at exactly the same point...
By looking at what you've said... I think the screen might not have fitted correctly... Hence causing the led not to shine as brightly as it should... May be there is some gap left...
About the screen originality... It's really hard to determine... If you could send us the link of the part which you are buying.. Then someone might be able to judge it's authenticity..

Listen, stop complaining that people aren't answering your questions. As Mr.Hoff has repeatedly tried to tell you, people have NO OBLIGATION to answer you, nor does it mean that because they're on XDA They know the answer to your questions. XDA is a priviledge, without XDA you probably wouldn't have a place to even ask your question.
NOW TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION.
The difference between HTC Screen and a Generic Replacement screen is alot.
HTC Screen = LCD2 which is basically HD screen
Generic = LCD Screen with a much lesser resolution.
Also the part numbers are different, the only REAL way to tell whether you have the LCD2 screen or not.
However I cannot tell you the exact part number for a OEM HTC LCD2 Display.
Now stop ranting.

Hi there,
today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken. The phone is still fully working. Touchscreen and everything else works without problems.
A couple of months ago I changed the front glass of a Samsung Galaxy S4 with all the necessary stuff, e.g. loca glue. For the first trial the result was acceptable. No reading the other threads:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3522863
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3592043
most of the posters don't recommend the replacement of the front glass. On ebay I can find both only the frontglass (about 10€) and the full suited display (about 135€). If I take an offer from china, the price would lower to 65€. Another option would be to send the phone to Oneplus and let those guys repair it.
Now the decisions I have to made:
Just buying the front glass: Would be an option, if it is the same difficulty like the Samsung phones. But I've found only one Youtube Tutorial. At 1:45 he puts something on the screen, but not sure if it's clue or just something to clean.
Buying a display from China: for about 65€ would be also ok. This can take up to 6 weeks of shipping. And in some forums I've read the quality should be much lower than the original parts from Oneplus. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Sending to Oneplus ist the last option. But this depends on the price. I opened a ticket and now I'm waiting for their offer.
What would you recommend? Has anybody changed the frontglass and can tell me about the success?

Buying a display from China: for about 65€ would be also ok. This can take up to 6 weeks of shipping. And in some forums I've read the quality should be much lower than the original parts from Oneplus. Does anyone have any experience about this?
Sending to Oneplus ist the last option. But this depends on the price. I opened a ticket and now I'm waiting for their offer.
What would you recommend? Has anybody changed the frontglass and can tell me about the success?

Open the ticket mate. No fuss. You'll get your device going in maximum 2 weeks. I tried replacing the glass myself and failed, I cracked the screen half way through...
Buying from eBay... Idk, but if people say they're not original, why Risk? Then again there's the struggle of doing it yourself.
The cheapest and safest is to send it to ONEPLUS.
Cheers

Hi there,
today I dropped my phone on the street and the front glass got broken. The phone is still fully working. Touchscreen and everything else works without problems.
A couple of months ago I changed the front glass of a Samsung Galaxy S4 with all the necessary stuff, e.g. loca glue. For the first trial the result was acceptable. No reading the other threads:

most of the posters don't recommend the replacement of the front glass. On ebay I can find both only the frontglass (about 10€) and the full suited display (about 135€). If I take an offer from china, the price would lower to 65€. Another option would be to send the phone to Oneplus and let those guys repair it.

I have replaced hundreds of screens in devices and for the most part it is cheaper and far easier then anything else.
Im about to replace my USB port myself as soon as my tool kit gets here on Monday.
I would never send a device to the OEM to be fixed. It will cost you twice as much plus the time without a device is just stupid.
I have always trusted these people with all the stuff I need to repair. Never trust some random Youtube video.

You could find a cheaper knock off im sure but I hold a simple believe when it comes to electronics. You get what you pay for. You buy cheap and you get cheap.
The USB port was like 4 bucks with 25 dollars shipping lol.

That's been my general experience as well, with probably the exception of Intel CPUs. Got my 1700X and is better for building than a 7700K or 8700K for almost half the price.

Got an answer from Oneplus:
Screen: EUR 57.20
Fingerprint Sensor: EUR 12.60
Labor: EUR 18.50
Vat: 23%
Total: EUR 108.61
Not sure, if there are any shippig costs to be added.

57 Euros doesn't sound bad actually especially if it's the regular screen.

What? It may suck to send your device away but why are you saying they charge you twice as much? That's misinformation. I sent mine and it only cost 80£ (labour and shipping included). Where can you buy an original display for 80 quid? Even the Knock offs from eBay cost more than that.

You are not adding in the cost of buying g another disposable device to use for the weeks your device is gone. That's for you. Do you know how much it would cost from the US for a repair?

Great! The price surprised me. When my LG V10 died I sent it in thinking it was going to be a free repair for the bootloop issue.. $400 USD to replace motherboard. **** that lol

That's the issue is being in the states. It will always be a lot more expencive coming from there then from anywhere in Europe.

Yep! Not gonna pay $400 to repair a device that is literally $100 something on Ebay or Swappa, and I am definitely not going to pay $400 for a device that is guaranteed going to bootloop again in only a years time. So I spent $300 and bought a new OP3. Originally got the V10 because as someone coming from IOS, I automatically thought all Android phones could be unlocked and rooted with ease, with some o them sweet custom ROMs. This guy didn't do his research and ended up with using LG's, horrible, horrible (I cannot stress this enough) software. Not to mention the extra thick layer of AT&T bloat behind it. I don't really care about the hardware in a phone, as long as its good enough to have the software run good.

I hear you there. I had a g2 for a while. Then moved to the nexus but the 6 had issues dealing with the cold. So got the 1+3 for a steal from a dev. To be honest. I wanted to hate it because the CEO is an idiot. But other then some crappy BT issues when on a weak wifi connection. (licensing issues I'm sure) and the fact it won't work with my smart watch. I really can't complain about about.
I replaced my Motherboard and Battery by sending it to Oneplus. I do live in the EU so that could be a big difference. But a DHL driver picked it up on Monday. And I got it back the same week on Friday fully repaired without additional costs. A screen replacement here costs about €100 which is not expensive at all.. The problem mainly is that original parts are very rare and mostly fake.

I used DHL for the first time Getting the USB port. Ordered it before Xmas and got it 2 weeks later. I was impressed with DHL as they went out of their way to make sure I got the package.
