I bought my EVO on launch day, hardware rev 002... I have had NO ISSUES with this phone other then the corrupted SD card which was fixed with a patch.
I've been fully rooted since the root came out. Few weeks back I upgraded from Fresh Rom 0.3 to .5.3 or whatever version it was and the next day I lost sound from my speaker.
No audio for videos, ringers, app sounds, nothing. I also noticed that when the phone booted it no longer said FRESH!!!!! as it loaded.
Someone suggested that my ROM may have been corrupted at download, hence a bad flash. I downloaded it again, checked the hash this time and re-flashed and this IMMEDIATELY fixed the issue. No problems since then. Previous to re-flashing, I tried rebooting repeatedly but this did not help, only the re-flash did.
Fast forward in time, I'm now I'm on Fresh ROM 1.0.1 and everything's been good since it came out until last night, I lost sound again. I decided not to mess with it last night, I was tired and I went to bed. I woke up today, still no sound. I rebooted, no FRESH!!!! as it was booting. I got pissed and ***** slapped my phone as it was rebooting. When it got to the home screen, I had sound. As of typing this, I still have sound.
So... Umm... Which one fixed it? The rebooting or slapping my phone? I'm now wondering if I have a loose connection to the speaker and reinstalling the first time wasn't just odd timing. Maybe handling the phone during the format and reinstall of 0.5.3 just shook something back into place and it wasn't really the reinstall at all? That said I rebooted a half dozen times before reinstalling 0.5.3 with no affect, I handled the heck out of the phone with no affect, formatting it instantly fixed it so I just assumed it was a bad flash.
Looking for opinions and suggestions. I'm over my 30 days to return obviously so I'd probably have to warranty threw HTC or claim insurance via Sprint. If the speaker is in fact crapping out, I would assume its covered under the 1 year warranty but HTC has like 2 to 6 week turn around right now which won't work. I NEED my phone so I might get stuck swapping it out threw Sprint and paying the $100 dollars.
Wow, no one has any input?
RUU the phone just to be sure it's not an issue with your ROM.
^^^ What he said. And, you shouldn't have to pay the $100 dollar deductible if it is a defective speaker. The only way that you would have to pay is if it could be determined that it were due to abuse on your part.
FWIW I am having major issues with my earpiece speaker. I can hardly carry on a conversation because it buzzes and rattles at any volume. Sounds like the speaker is blown. I took it to the Sprint store today and they ordered me a no charge insurance replacement.
Hi everyone!
I have had horrible audio through the 3.5mm jack. The audio sounds distorted and you cannot hear the words, just muffle. The bass on the other hand is overpowering. It sounds like the headphone jack is not plugged in all the way but it is. This happens with everything including youtube, movies, music, and even games. It's definitely not the headphones as both pair of headphones have the same problem and sounds just fine on my Evo 4g and pc. I have tried low audio hack, voodoo support, flashing new kernel and new rom, and wiping phone completely. Has anyone else had this problem? Anybody know of a fix? I love this phone except for this. If I can't get it figured I will have to sell it.
Thanks, Forrest.

Maybe your phone needs repair? I being a audiophile owning Several Sennheiser headphones know the E4GT audio isn't all that... but it isn't as bad as your stating. goto sprint store plug ur headphones into there display version of the E4GT and see if it still persist. If it does, get some new canns.
went to the sprint store and tried my headphones. Sounded great. Went to best buy and tried a pair of beats and the sound is distorted. I guess my headphone jack is messed up. I hope the manufacturers warranty covers this.

How did this turn out? I have recently been using my E4GT for podscat daily via bluetooth and a pair of Sennheiser HD205 Headphones using Pocket Casts and only recently has it started it was sounding great prior to this week. Very scratchy and seems like it does not have enough power to drive the drivers? The Bluetooth Headphones seem to sound fine.
I also plug the Headphone jack to my Home Theater and wonder if this damaged anything?
I have not done a complete factory reset yet as this will be my last result. It is a stock E4GT rom and not rooted.
Not sure how long the warranty is on these phones?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Mark

Even if there wasnt a problem with your phone it would still sound distorted through a pair of Beats.
I agree Beats would not be a good test for the headphones. Way bass heavy and probably distorted.

IF you have TEP you can go into a repair center and they could just replace the headphone jack, and it doesnt matter if you rooted cause sprint has no poicly against it.
Thanks I did call Sprint support and she suggested the same thing. The phone is still under warranty and she said they can look at the jack and if they are unable to repair they will get me another phone. I was hoping it was something Software related but I just did a hard reset and same problem. I use my headphone everyday for Podcast other wise I would not worry about it to much.
Thanks for the reply,
Mark

Since when is there no policy against it? I've always heard some of both, and even that certain techs won't work on it if it is rooted. I feel like it's always better to take it in stock, but that may just be my paranoia, who knows.

OK, as requested to take my phone to the store I did as told today after work. I am a Sprint shareholder and a strong supporter of Sprint. I like the company and am usually tolerant to issues related to coverage and technical limitations due to frequency limitations like Wimax, etc.
Well I have to admit I am a little ticked off. I went to the store and waited 15-20 min for service to be told I do not have TEP. The customer service person I spoke to yesterday knew this. So I was told I had two options.
1. 37.50 for them to repair it. I asked what you don't do any warranty replacement or work and he said no. My question is if this is the case it may revoke my warranty anyway? By paying with American Epxress for the purchase I have double warranty coverage. So that extends it to two years.
2. Call Samsung and have them repair or replace under warranty. Actually this is what the customer service lady told me the store would do. The clerk was very short and not helpful. Not rude but not very friendly or helpful either.
So now I will contact Samsung and see what the deal is there. If they tell me that Sprint working on it won't void the warranty then maybe I will have the store do it. Unless Samsung would send me another one and let me send mine into them. I will let them put a hold for the cost until they receive mine.
Thanks,
I called Samsung and that was an experience within itself.
I spent like 30 minutes on a chat session with tech support. I explained everything and the tech probably in India was going through a script. I explained early on I tried 4 different sets of headphones and did a Hard reset to eliminate and software conflicts. I figured a smart person would know that I went through all the typical measures. I did not even think of it but I may have been conversing with a Bot?
About 20 min into it the tech asked me if I took the battery out and reset the phone. LOL. Obviously reading from a script. He insisted that I take the phone to the store and try a pair of Samsung Headphones. After insisting over and over I finally went and got my Samsung earbuds and it was doing the same thing, finally he gives me another number to call for galaxy support. What a waste of time. After speaking to Galaxy Helpdesk I was well on my way to a RMA and shipping label.
So I shipped it back to Samsung today. Trying to activate a regular feature phone now so I will have a phone meanwhile.
Nothing like 15 or so years ago. I rememebr at that time I was with AT&T and if I had phone problems the next morning I had another phone at my door. I guess things have changed so much and the carriers let the OEM's deal with it of course unless you boot for the TEP fees? By paying for my original purchase with American Express they double the OEM warranty so I would assume that means I have two years now.
If you don't have TEP, you have to pay a convenience fee to have it repaired or replaced at the store. Don't blame Sprint that you chose to not have TEP. Basically, it's Sprint (or any carrier's) way of keeping plan prices low. By forcing customers to either pay Sprint for convenience (8 a month, or minimum 35 for a service visit) they get to keep the plan price. As a rep, I feel like TEP shouldn't be optional. If you had to sit there and listen to people complain all day that they have to pay for a repair (when they opted out of TEP), you would agree with me.
As for rooting, M&P says that we have to work on the device, or exchange it, even if it is rooted. Since customers don't know that, most techs won't both with it. If the customer screwed up their phone by rooting it, the metrics hit the store takes from doing the exchange isn't fair to the store personnel. If a customer is kind and polite, it's probably a different story for most stores
Yes I agree, I have been thinking of this the last couple days.
I understand the mess it would make if they had to handle all the warrantys for the OEM's. Unless they could turn it into a profit center by being paid by the PEM's to handle the repairs and warranty like a car dealship does. I think the OEM's are not interested?
My biggest conceren was the lady over the phone in customer service that told me your phone is still in warranty just take it to one of the repair sotres and they will take care of you by either repairing or replacing the phone. This built up a expectation of superior customer service only to be told at the store that we do no deal with OEM warranty but I can fix it for you for 37.50. Again I am a strong supporter of Sprint a long term stock holder. So I don't let these things get to me but I do observer what a typical customer would feel and I can tell you they would have walked out and went straight to AT&T or Verizon. Granted they would deal with the same issues there if not worse.
The rest of my experience has been short of exceptional with them assisting me to configure another phone to use in the short term. One of the phones would not go into program mode and they assisted me very professionaly and friendly.
My only snag is the builtup expectation only to be told something totally different.
My other concern is if they are not a certified warraty repair even though I pay the 37.50 for the repair. I would think this would void the OEM warranty if they opened it and saw repairs made?
Thanks,
Any update on this?
I am having the same problem BUT it's not the jack!! I can connect my phone to my car aux and it's fine.. Only sucks when using the headset. It also is like a EQ is turned on and it's blocking the mid range (only with the headset!!!!). Seems like software not hardware. Did you notice the same thing? Did you get this fixed?

Any update.. I have the same issue BUT...
All,
I am now having the same issue BUT I can confirm that IF I connect to my car AUX or some other amp it works fine!!! It's only a problem when I connect to headsets!! Not only that it seems to be like their is an EQ effect causing the mid range and voice freq. to be cut off (I can listen to music and all is normal but the singers voice is gone (nulled out). Again this ONLY happens with headsets not an amp or AUX.. Very odd and must be something software NOT hardward like the connector etc. BTW that's with either 3 or 4 contact headsets!
HELP!

I too am having the same exact problem. Sounds works fine in my car via aux, works fine at my desk via normal speakers and works fine on my portable speakers. But each time i connect it to a headset both 3 and 4 contact heads it messes up. The midrange sound is missing when playing clear audio (MP3) and it is really distorted when playing songs via youtube and such.
I have tried all the following with no luck:
I have opened the phone physically examined the headphone jack
I have reset/restored the firmware.
Installed CM10 b2 and tried to see if somehow it would cause the audio drivers to become unstuck.
Installed CM10 b2 and added Team Ac!d samsung sound drivers to see if that would work.
[/LIST]
Some background info: was running CM10 b2 with the team Ac!d version 4 drivers flashed. (they did not work for me at all)
When i reverted back to the Official Samsung EL26 rooted rom i noticed the problem when i attempted to play a song via youtube.
I hope someone else has some insight into this problem.
best of luck to all of you.
It's a hardware issue... It's the jack and the assoicated module/circuit it's attached to. I pulled my phone apart and did some looking. Once I realized it was part of a circuit I knew what the issue was. I've seen this kind of design in other electronics I've worked on in the past. The circuit is there to detect if what is plugged in is a headphone vs. an amp etc. If you ever noticed when you set the volume at one level with the headset then unplug it and plug into an amp the volume level change/isn't the same. That's what the circuit is designed to do (reduce vol. level when a headset is detected so it doesn't blast your ears off). Once I determined this I brought the phone to Sprint and told them what the problem was and explained it they tested then took my advice and changed the modular headphone assembly and that fixed it. Any I didn't even charge Sprint for my tech time!

Hi.
Wifey has an xperia Arc S. Not rooted, flashed or customised at all.
Earphone stopped working outside of Orange warranty so off it went to Phone4u for a free repair.
Week later returned and tested in shop - earpiece working.
Next day wifey got a call and again, they could hear her but she couldnt hear them.
Off the phone4u again.
Week later returned and tested in shop - earpiece working.
Next day wifey got another call and again, they could hear her but she couldnt hear them.
Off the phone4u for a third time
Two weeks later (yesterday) returned and tested in shop - earpiece working
Today ? guess what ? earpiece not working again.
All we have done is to set up her google account and install less tha 10 apps - all from the Play store so nothing dubious.
Ive managed to check in the service menu and the loudspeaker works fine (so she could use the phone on speakerphone) but the earpiece has no sound.
Anyone else found similar issues ?
I cant even see that its s/w related as it started off being an issue on stock gingerbread but each time it comes back from phones4u they claim to have 'updated to the latest version'.
She is now at a point where phones4u will offer her a replacement phone - but i doubt it will be anything great - to cover the last 6 months of her contract.
just cant understand it
This is driving me crazy. I bought the LG G3 about two months ago and a month in i dropped it and the screen broke. I had to wait three weeks for them to repair it because they ****ed up and I just got it back today and behold, I can't hear when people call me. They can hear me and I can hear them on both speaker and with headsets. There is no buzzing or anything like that, just no audio. The speakers work fine with everything else.
Before you answer, No, it's not on mute, yes I checked all the settings to make sure everything was like it should be and I even reset it to factory settings. Please help someone, i'm pissed of to no end and I would love whoever helped me fix this. I really dont feel like waiting another three god damn weeks for my phone back seeing how I've had it for not even a day now.

I had the same problem. Never dropped mine though. On hindsight, I recall a few people stating I was difficult to hear and vice versa up to a week before I ran into the same thing as you. Suddenly (as of last Friday, I lost all audio through the earpiece (speakerphone and BT were all that worked). I went in to a TMO store Friday afternoon and am happy to say I got my warranty replacement this afternoon. So far all is OK.
The whole thing was really disappointing. I had just gotten the phone as of 8/12
I'm wondering what to do, should I sent it in for repair? I've had it about a month. Since day 1 I've noticed a few issues. First Bluetooth has been terrible and would disconnect from my car. Well would say connected but would start playing over phone speakers. Also when using GPS apps such as Google Maps the phone would restart. Also I keep getting GPS signal lost over and over in both Google Maps and Pokémon Go. I tried reinstalling different versions of of Oxygen and they help for a few hours but then the issues start up again. I've also tried CM 13 and the issue still persists. I have ordered a shipping label from One Plus. I know RMA is a nightmare but do you think I should do it? What will they do when they get the phone?
got sensors problem, no proximity, compass, camera started to lag. reflashed stock rom, still the same. ordered rma, today checked at Arvato, they replaced motherboard and sended back phone to me. it was repaired in Germany, tooked 4 work days till dispatch. If your phone isn't 15 days old from purchase, i recommend to get replacement instead of repair. Good luck
Unfortunately it's been more then 15 days. Thanks for the info though. I was wondering what the process was. I just don't know what else I could do to fix it other then send it in.
I also have issues from time to time with bluetooth. I'm currently on CM btw. If I connect my phone to my car, it shows connected and also the bluetooth volume is available but it does not play music at all.I have to reboot and everything is fine but I found also a workaround. If I start playing music before connecting it worked 100% of the time... Very strange... My GPS disconnects didn't went to zero with cm but it's a lot better. With OOS I had disconnects like every 15 min and with CM randomly every few days.
Do you have another device you are ok with using if your phone is off to RMA for a week or more?
Support is pretty good they'll fix it. Just have to have a spare should that be an issue.
You'll need to create a OnePlus account and register your device. Should be there if you bought from them directly. Then open a ticket. Turn around time was like 10-15 days depending on the issue. I've had a good experience.
Experience was alright. Their repair center is in Texas so should be alright.
