I am trying to get back to S-ON using Ubuntu. It is all I have access to and don't trust running something under Wine to restore my bootloader. The failure risk is too high, and I dont want to brick.
That said, I have restored using the image through bootloader, so I am on unrooted stock but with S-off.
TLR - How do I get S-ON again in Ubuntu?

Hi guys I am looking for the best way to unroot my phone and return everything to the way it was out of the box.
I currently have full root with nand unlocked.
Thanks all.

From the unrevoked website:
How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

I would install an official update first (to get rid of root) and then use that tool to re-lock the NAND.
Here's the link. I can't post it since I'm a new user:

not that simple. first, run the s-on tool. then, flash your misc partition with toast's modified mtd-eng.img. finally, flash a stock pc36img.zip. sound all good?
Hmmm..... now I'm even more confused.

use the unrevoked s-on tool. then downlaod this thing. evo4g.me/downloads//count.php?target=evo-root.zip
unzip. put mtd-eng.img on your sdcard, nad adb push (which u need to set up if it isn't already) flash_image to /data/local. type:
adb shell
(make sure screen is on and unlocked) su (accept)
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
then flash a stock pc36img.zip from hboot.
Ummm...you dont need s on to unroot as i just sent a phone back that i unrooted....all i did was downgrade to an older rooted build then ran the ruu from latest update. That put s on for me and unrooted

When you do a NAND unlock (aka a full root), the bootloader is turned to S-OFF to allow you to flash non-official ROMs, recoveries, etc. The S-ON tool allows you to turn it back to the ON position which is standard for non-developer devices (aka consumer-level). When you first bought your phone, it said S-ON in the bootloader, top right (hold volume-down while turning on your phone). Now it says S-OFF. You need it back in S-ON position to make it look like you were on a stock ROM (as well as putting the stock ROM back on).

Thank you. I will give all this a try and post back my results.

I'm in the same boat...
I need to do the same to my Evo. Would it hurt if I just flashed the latest stock RUU instead of messing with s-on s-off utilities etc? It is a newer version than what I have on my phone now.
Thanks,
Dan
ah, this is why i refuse to use unrevoked...i rather downgrade to 1.47 and then root my phone using 1.47 methods...lol but when i was on 3.29 (not using unrevoked) all i did was run the official RUU on my computer with my phone plugged in and it unrooted my phone, and gave me s-on and flashed stock recovery.

When I rooted my phone I did not use unrevoked either.
Is this a method that I can use to unroot my phone and return my phone to default?

yea, use the latest ruu or the 3.29 to be on the safe side and it will restore you completely to stock.
DON'T use the latest...
That is if you want to be able to root again afterwards. The latest RUU 3.30.651.2 has not been cracked yet and you will be stuck with stock rom, until a solution is found at least. I did this and now I regret it, use anything 3.29 or below and you will be fine.
Oh... and dont accept any OTA's (over the air updates) while on an older rom or the same thing will happen.

He is right. I figured u wanted to unroot because ur sending back to sprint. If thats not the case then use 3.29 or under. I dont think they have found a root for 3.30....sorry bout that.
Is this not a rooted 3.30?....or am I mistaken?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819838
So the main reason I am wanting to unroot is because I am currently having some issues with mms. ONLY on AOSP roms though, and want to see if I restore my phone back to factory default and then gain root access if my problems will be gone.
So if I run just the 3.29 ruu, then my phone will be back on default? I wont have to worry about the s-on s-off thing?
So I'm very confused about this rooting business. I am scared to root my Desire, mostly because of bricking my phone and losing the warranty but I need more battery as it sucks and Gingerbread is ever so tempting . I basically want to root my phone and flash gingerbread with the possibility of over/underclocking it when I feel the need.
This is what it says when I boot holding the power and volume key in:
BRAVO PVT4 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
MICROP-051d
TOUCH PANEL-SYNT0101
RADIO-5.10.05.30
I bought it from Orange brand new and it's got froyo 2.2, software number 2.17.61.3 on it.
Basically all I want to know is will using unrevoked work, or do I need to mess around with a goldcard etc and what are the advantages to making the device S-OFF?
unrEVOked will root it, no issues, but you won't be able to go back to stock as the Orange RUU isn't available so you'll need a gold card if you need to need to go back to stock (which would have to be a non-Orange one)
Don't worry about S-OFF at the mo as that's a lot more technical than rooting
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated
Ahh yes I've noticed that pretty much all other competing carriers RUU's for the desire are available to download except Oranges, why is this?
If I was to flash Gingerbread, I would need to flash the recovery to clockworkmod and perform a nandroid backup and then proceed with flashing the Gingerbread ROM, is this correct?

The recovery is ClockworkMod, if you nandroid first, then factory reset wiping all caches then installed your ROM you'd be fine. If you wanted to revert back to your stock ROM I'd suggest using your stock RUU which will wipe off the root, re-root then nandroid back and you'll be as you were.
Maybe you could just install a custom Sense ROM then run your Sense nandroid on top of that, but the safest thing to do would be to use the RUU.
Hi,
If I run the Stock RRU for my HTC Desire will it reflash my bootloader and return to the stock HBOOT? (so S-ON returns)?
If not, how do I do this safely?
Thanks
Running an RUU will put EVERYTHING back to stock - you need to be rooted to have S-OFF
So if I run the Rru. My soff root and flash all go back to stock.
Wondering if that will put back for warranty claim

Yes, it puts EVERYTHING back to stock. S-Off returns to S-Off, you become unrooted, your partition tables return to normal (I guess so since it rewrites the Hboot), EVERYTHING!!! I don't see why not for putting it in a warranty claim. To be honest I don't think they will be fussed, as long as you have the stock rom untouched.
Is there a way to unroot and get s-on back? I'm selling this phone and want to get back to its original state. I have clockwork recovery and I'm running the stock Rom.

Did you use revolutionary or the xtc clip to obtain root?
I just did a simple search around the forum and came up with this. Follow these instructions. It will revert your phone back to stock gingerbread.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/0...8-605-4-same-as-the-official-gingerbread-ota/
http://rootzwiki.com/showthread.php?t=1766
This would actually be best. This method will overwrite the revolutionary bootloader and fully revert it to stock with S-ON. You would need to have adb setup though.
I think you can actually just install the Gingerbread vivow RUU executable here and get it done quicker with less effort. That is what I did, and it updated the bootloader to stock.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033922
I used revolutionary to root. Thanks for all the links. I'll check them out when I get to my main computer.
yes this would be the best way to get s-on and fully stock. tried other way but revolution remained with s-off
rootzwiki is what i meant.
Hello, I have rooted my buzz but now i need warranty and i have to downgrade hboot to 1.01 (stock) and ruu to stock, i have found ruu at shipped roms but need hboot with s-on and stock rom with shipped t9 apps and all of this because of warranty. Is this any way to do that?
Did you get S-OFF using an XTC Clip or was it using Revolutionary? If it was using an XTC Clip, there's no way to get back S-ON as far as I know, and, if it was using Revolutionary, then, you will need to extract the HBoot File from the RUU (It's a .nb0 file), and then follow this guide to get back to HBoot 1.01.0001 S-ON:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1160251
Apart from this, flashing an RUU will recover the stock ROM completely, including the Stock apps.
I was using revolutionary and i have also backup of original android from stock with boot.img recovery etc. i'll try that way that You gived
In that case, you can also use Fastboot to recover your original boot, recovery, data, system etc, and then follow that guide to get back a S-ON HBoot. In that way, you need not flash an RUU.
