[Q] unrooting from gingerbread - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

Is there a way to unroot and get s-on back? I'm selling this phone and want to get back to its original state. I have clockwork recovery and I'm running the stock Rom.

Did you use revolutionary or the xtc clip to obtain root?

I just did a simple search around the forum and came up with this. Follow these instructions. It will revert your phone back to stock gingerbread.

This would actually be best. This method will overwrite the revolutionary bootloader and fully revert it to stock with S-ON. You would need to have adb setup though.

I think you can actually just install the Gingerbread vivow RUU executable here and get it done quicker with less effort. That is what I did, and it updated the bootloader to stock.

I used revolutionary to root. Thanks for all the links. I'll check them out when I get to my main computer.

yes this would be the best way to get s-on and fully stock. tried other way but revolution remained with s-off

rootzwiki is what i meant.

Best way to unroot.

Hi guys I am looking for the best way to unroot my phone and return everything to the way it was out of the box.
I currently have full root with nand unlocked.
Thanks all.

From the unrevoked website:
How can this be removed or undone if I need to take my phone in for service?
Download the latest ''S-ON'' tool to a temporary location and follow the installation instructions above to run it. Once your phone is S-ON, you may lose root permanently if you install an official update

I would install an official update first (to get rid of root) and then use that tool to re-lock the NAND.
Here's the link. I can't post it since I'm a new user:
downloads[/url][DOT]unrevoked[DOT]com/forever/current/unrevoked-forever-son.zip
not that simple. first, run the s-on tool. then, flash your misc partition with toast's modified mtd-eng.img. finally, flash a stock pc36img.zip. sound all good?
Hmmm..... now I'm even more confused.

use the unrevoked s-on tool. then downlaod this thing. evo4g.me/downloads//count.php?target=evo-root.zip
unzip. put mtd-eng.img on your sdcard, nad adb push (which u need to set up if it isn't already) flash_image to /data/local. type:
adb shell
(make sure screen is on and unlocked) su (accept)
chmod 755 /data/local/flash_image
/data/local/flash_image misc /sdcard/mtd-eng.img
then flash a stock pc36img.zip from hboot.
Ummm...you dont need s on to unroot as i just sent a phone back that i unrooted....all i did was downgrade to an older rooted build then ran the ruu from latest update. That put s on for me and unrooted

When you do a NAND unlock (aka a full root), the bootloader is turned to S-OFF to allow you to flash non-official ROMs, recoveries, etc. The S-ON tool allows you to turn it back to the ON position which is standard for non-developer devices (aka consumer-level). When you first bought your phone, it said S-ON in the bootloader, top right (hold volume-down while turning on your phone). Now it says S-OFF. You need it back in S-ON position to make it look like you were on a stock ROM (as well as putting the stock ROM back on).

Thank you. I will give all this a try and post back my results.

I'm in the same boat...
I need to do the same to my Evo. Would it hurt if I just flashed the latest stock RUU instead of messing with s-on s-off utilities etc? It is a newer version than what I have on my phone now.
Thanks,
Dan
ah, this is why i refuse to use unrevoked...i rather downgrade to 1.47 and then root my phone using 1.47 methods...lol but when i was on 3.29 (not using unrevoked) all i did was run the official RUU on my computer with my phone plugged in and it unrooted my phone, and gave me s-on and flashed stock recovery.

When I rooted my phone I did not use unrevoked either.
Is this a method that I can use to unroot my phone and return my phone to default?

yea, use the latest ruu or the 3.29 to be on the safe side and it will restore you completely to stock.
DON'T use the latest...
That is if you want to be able to root again afterwards. The latest RUU 3.30.651.2 has not been cracked yet and you will be stuck with stock rom, until a solution is found at least. I did this and now I regret it, use anything 3.29 or below and you will be fine.
Oh... and dont accept any OTA's (over the air updates) while on an older rom or the same thing will happen.

He is right. I figured u wanted to unroot because ur sending back to sprint. If thats not the case then use 3.29 or under. I dont think they have found a root for 3.30....sorry bout that.
Is this not a rooted 3.30?....or am I mistaken?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=819838
So the main reason I am wanting to unroot is because I am currently having some issues with mms. ONLY on AOSP roms though, and want to see if I restore my phone back to factory default and then gain root access if my problems will be gone.
So if I run just the 3.29 ruu, then my phone will be back on default? I wont have to worry about the s-on s-off thing?

Why does it say s-on?

I've got permanent root on my phone. Why does it say s-on?
I flashed pauls prerooted stock rom. How can i get s-off back on?

so after flashing pauls rom, your s-off got reverted to s-on?
I installed Paul's rom but then tried to flash a stock one on top of that one which caused me to get s-on. The link below explains why I got s-on. I was able to change my version number and go back to stock with a hex editor.

[Q] S-OFF and Stock RRU

Hi,
If I run the Stock RRU for my HTC Desire will it reflash my bootloader and return to the stock HBOOT? (so S-ON returns)?
If not, how do I do this safely?
Thanks
Running an RUU will put EVERYTHING back to stock - you need to be rooted to have S-OFF
So if I run the Rru. My soff root and flash all go back to stock.
Wondering if that will put back for warranty claim

See my other post
Yes, it puts EVERYTHING back to stock. S-Off returns to S-Off, you become unrooted, your partition tables return to normal (I guess so since it rewrites the Hboot), EVERYTHING!!! I don't see why not for putting it in a warranty claim. To be honest I don't think they will be fussed, as long as you have the stock rom untouched.

[Q] Unrooting EVO

I need to unroot my phone so I can get a few things fixed on it. There is a thread out there talking about if you have used unrevoked forever to root your phone. Is there a difference between using "unrevoked3" or "unrevoked forever"? It is two different links on the unrevoked website. Or are they just considering the unrevoked method as one? Any help will be appreciated, thanks!
Just go to unrevoked.com and you'll find what you are looking for. There links and stuff to help you out. If you used this method before when you rooted.

Download the s-on zip, flash it in recovery to get s-on before running the ruu.
Ok, I understand that now.
Now for the PC36IMG file. A lot of people are saying that they are getting errors when they flash this, but I have not seen anyone post a link that is working. What is the newest file that should be used in place of this?
unrevoked3 contains unrevoked forever. Just unroot like you would with any other way, place an s-on zip and a stock rom pc36img on the root of the sd card. Boot into recovery, flash s-on zip, then flash the pc36img stock rom.
So on this website of ruu's, which one is the right one/best to use?
http://goo-inside.me/supersonic/ruu
If you're just getting it fixed, I'd leave s-off so you can get root access back when you get your phone back.
They should still service your phone as long you have stock software. They may do an OTA, but when you get your phone back just flash a recovery then restore a nandroid backup (make one before you unroot).

I thought you could root again after you unroot (well most of the time). So you're basically saying don't flash the S-On, just flash the PC36IMG. That will set me back to a stock rom with root capabilities?
The only issue i'm having is a charging issue. Not sure if it is the port or the battery. But I know if I can't get it to charge again (and can't get back to stock) I'll be screwed with the warranty.

You won't be able to root again if you have s-on and the Gingerbread update. If you leave s-off then you'll be able to flash a PC36IMG of a recovery and be back in business. Even if you don't update to Gingerbread OTA, the Sprint store probably will.
If it's your charging port then they'll have to replace your phone... in which case you'll most likely get a replacement that can't be rooted. If you do get a replacement with 2.3, still check the bootloader to see if it's s-off. A few people have gotten refurbs that were never put back to s-on.
Just flash the PC36IMG of an RUU - the 3.70 one should be fine. If absolutely necessary, you can charge your battery in an external wall charger. I have multiple batteries and use one to charge my extras. I'm not sure if you can get one in stores, I got mine online.
Edit: leaving s-off and flashing an RUU doesn't mean you'll have root access - ie Superuser, root apps, etc - but you will be able to flash a rooted rom later or restore a nandroid backup of your current rooted setup.

How to get s-on

I rooted with revolutionary and wanted to know the quickest way to get s-on going to flash my stock back up because I'm upgrading my phone. Any help is really appreciated
y do you need to unroot to upgrade? are you trading your phone in?
Yea upgrading to evo 3d compliments of sprint
id say check out this thread. the key is to check that you have s-on, correct hboot version and KEEP you sd card as it will have different partitions, folders and files on it that if gone through can give it away.
