My touchscreen is horribly acting up...I have bestbuy's $10 monthly insurance. Anyways, when I type, it registers multiple touches and makes my swype type words that I don't want. If this a hardware or software issue? The touchscreen is also not as accurate either.
I was on ec05 and running ext4, midnight rom v5.2, bonsai 4.0.4 kernel (I think). I also flashed blue mattel theme, incase that matters. Its also not just swype, when I hold my finger down on threads, the screen shakes as if I am constantly moving my finger, but im not.
I flashed reRFS stock and it semmed to help, but only to an extent.

Did you try ODIN? If ODIN doesn't fix it then it confirms that it is indeed a hardware issue.

My wifes epic got messed up and she too has the bestbuy $10 insurance.... trust me, they don't care what ROM you have but your in for a treat:
* Rapid exchange only quilifies for the iphone and blackberry.
* They will have to ship your phone out** and wait till they can "repair" it.
** the first time we shipped it, it took 1 month to come back. When we tested the phone in store, nothing we told them to fix was fixed and their response to that is "we have to ship it out again..." its been 15 days now (almost 2 months in total) and even as they said that they would "expedite" no news....
Besbuy insurance = never ever again!

Please check your facts. Sprint started Rapid Exchange for all their smartphones on April 19th with Best Buy. Several people on these forums have already used it.

But I'm lucky that my phone is working again.

Best Buy insurance will replace it with a new phone no charge. Sprint TEP will replace it with a refurb for $100. If you have no insurance they may be able to replace the screen for $35. Cracked screens are considered user damaged not a warranty type item.

Maybe Best Buy will get there one day...they just started the Rapid Exchange program. But they do at least get you a new phone not refurb and so far average time is a day or two. BUT they do not cover lost or stolen phones like TEP. I think I am going back to TEP on my next phone since I doubt they will let me switch back.
My bb just gives you a new phone when you bring it in as long as its in stock. Been that way for over 2 years now. Plus it allows you to upgrade if you wanna pay the dif of the 2 phones. My epic was only 10.24 the cost of the new protection plan.

you think they have actually taken the time to take EVERY single refurb and update them instead of just NOT doing it and having the phone force the update upon activation?

That's the point of a refurb though, to be brand new so to speak. so it will 9/10 be updated software.
I got my fascinate to inc2 switch with a refurbished on wed last week and it came with 2.2. Just a fyi.

It is a mixed bag with refurbished versions. I currently have a little screen separation going on but I am dealing with it because I don't want to lose root or get stuck in Verizon refurbish hell.

no one can say for sure.
Mines left yesterday, should be getting it Thursday or Friday, so i hope it still have 2.2. I too think it's a roll of the dice, because they would literally have to replace ALL the phones, it would be better to just let the user update it, but we will see.
This was an issue back when I had the Eris, and I needed a refurb, and the same thing, I tried asking before they sent it out and they said that it's most likely going to be sent with the updated software, if it a refurb..
I have to ask. I see so many people on here saying they got the DInc 2 from a Fascinate (Same thing I'm doing now) so I'm sure you are all familiar with the Fascinate. How come there isnt anything like the stock ODIN files that can be used on a Fascinate?
Because Samsung and HTC have totally different ways of debugging/developing and use different tools. The Eris is the same way, with S-OFF and all that jazz with the bootloader. IMO the Odin App made recovering from meltdowns and updating things like the radio VERY easy which was nice. But for some reason this simplicity also led to MORE bricks as all it took for a while to brick your phone was to hit the dreaded phone button instead of the "PDA" button in Odin...

I already miss Odin. It was so ridiculously easy to do anything with it. You didn't even need to root to flash a custom rom. Just Odin CWM, boot directly into it, and flash the rom. And very easy to go back to stock and not leave a trace of root. Unlike the current inability to go back to S-On...

100% agree. Someone needs to dev a way to do that for this phone.
So last week I upgraded to the Photon (Gold customer) from my Epic. At the time I kept my Epic (just transferred my SD card over). Since they got the update from Moto, the phone has been whacked, no Gmail, Market FC's, etc. So I am thinking I'm gonna return my phone and go back to the Epic. Couple of questions (and sorry if I'm spamming): 1. I can return it, correct (I've had it for 6 days today), and get back my upgrade option, yes? 2. Has anyone had problems returning a phone (within the 30-day window)? thanks guys!

I did this earlier in the year. I had bought the EVO, didnt like it, and returned it, then got the EPIC. I had no issues at all. I would recommend just making sure you go to a full service center. I have always had less issues...
i did the SAME thing at best buy.. when i first got into the droid market, i didn't want to pay much.. so i got the intercept.. WHAT... A.. PIECE.. OF.. ****!!!!!!!!!
i returned it within a week and it was SUPER easy to do, got my upgrade credit back and used it on my EPIC the same day!
Cool, thanks guys, am returning tomorrow.... I knew I should have just waited for the gsII. Thankfully, only a couple of weeks more to wait.
Maybe...
Or so they say... has Sprint confirmed a release date for the Epic 4g Touch yet?

OK, so i dropped my phone and the screen cracked and im getting a replacement phone sent. No big deal. But my phone is rooted and clearly has a new rom on it. For people who have gone through the process do you usually unroot and revert to stock before sending it back or do you just send it back rooted and let them worry about it?
I just dont want them to take away insurance because I rooted when this isnt even a software problem since im just replacing it because of a cracked screen.
What I did with my evo when I needed a new one was just put a stock rom on it and that was it I still had S-off to

Well i went to the sprint store the other day and i asked the same question and they said since your going through the insurance company they dont care. But then again when does a sprint rep known to say the truth
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
when the screen is cracked you have to file with asurian phoneclaim.com they don't care about root only in store repair does but the screens have not been covered by in store for over a year now
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Ok, thanks. The process isnt anything huge it would have been no problem. But didnt feel like doing it if I didnt have to. Looks like ill just send it back to em the way it is. Porbebly just full wipe and a fresh rom install so none of my info is on it and call it a day
When I warranteed out my phone, I just odined stock eg30 and used a jig. The jig isn't really necessary, but I would flash a stock to be safe, it takes only 5 minutes.

you are good
I've got a friend that works for a Sprint repair center. He said that as long as the insurance claim is for something other than software, you should be good.
got my replacement Epic today from Best Buy and everything is working EXCEPT there is no service, Yes it IS turned on YES it is rooted properly, and YES I AM about to smash the pos with a hammer, and go back to the pos Transform I have been using for the past three days.
Ummm...activation?

Did you change to the nexus modem?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
It was activated at best Buy, No I didn't change the modem, I had no service before I rooted, I was hoping it was Sprints software, but alas its the phone itself, its going back to Best buy tomorrow for yet another three day wait for a replacement phone I was on chat with Sprint for an hour and the rep said the phone is a Epic failure
either way I'm stuck with a stock Transform for another week
Times like this make me miss my old CU400 ( dumb pos phone yes, but no software problems and it was a rock)
lost modem
Need help here. Was on official CM10 nightlies, 0918.1 yesterday and lost modem 5 hour after install. Have not been able to reinstall any modem since. Odin to factory, repartition with victory, fc09 8gb tar, no joy. Still no modem. Any guidance. On gingerbread fc09, kernel 2.6.35.7, firmware version 2.3.6, hardware version UNKNOWN.
Click EFS clear in Odin.
