Push mail on 3G?? - HTC One X

Guys is push mail working for everyone on gmail when on 3G? when on WiFi pushmail is working perfectly and emails are received instantly, but when i'm on 3G only manual refresh works.
Another thing i cannot find on ICS, where do i set the frequency of updating for Facebook, twitter etc? Under accounts & sync i can only set this for weather...all the rest, the feature is missing.
Edit: Sorry, forgot to add....I'm on 1.28 since yesterday, stock, not rooted
Any help appreciated

I'm using Exchange push on 3G without any issues. I usually have my G-Tab next to me and they both receive e-mail at almost the exact same time.
For sync setting go to: Settings>Accounts & sync. All the apps that are syncing are listed and if you tap one each one it'll allow you to change what, how, and when they sync. You can add or remove accounts their also.

Barry thanks for confirming about pushmail. As for the Accounts & Sync i know about this. But try to go on eg. facebook. All i see is:
Sync Calendar
Sync Contacts
Sync live feed
No option to change the "when"
Same for all accounts except weather. I'm not sure if 1.26 was the same because as soon as i bought one x i got the 1.28 OTA and installed it

Afaik, you can change the sync interval of facebook and twitter in the option panel of the application itselve.

I have the same issue. It is driving me insane as I need to have access to my GMail on the go

No issues with PUSH on Gmail here at all. 3G and even 2G. Everything just works.

problem sharing URL with gmail

If you click and hold on the address bar in the browser you get the option to share a URL. choose this and then choose to share via GMAIL. it sends fine. however, the mail never gets delivered. Not until you actually go into your gmail app and refresh. Then the mail gets sent/delivered. If you choose to send a link using the MAIL application (hotmail for example) it sends immediately. Is this a HTC problem or a gmail app issue? anyone notice this? I would prefer to share URLs via gmail, but hotmail works and gmail doesn't. not properly anyway.
I've just tried this and it works fine for me - shared a URL via Gmail and it got delivered fine without having to go into Gmail.
Regards,
Dave
Ok I figured this out.
If you click and hold on the browser address bar to share a page, you can share via peep, facebook, gmail, mail, message, etc.
If you choose HTC MAIL widget (usually set up with exchnage or hotmail) it will send out the mail immediatley.
If you choose to use gmail to share the page it gets sent correctly, but it will just sit in your gmail outbox until you either open the gmail app and refresh, or else turn on the sync. Using the HTC MAIL widget does not require you to turn on sync. It just gets sent. Gmail needs the sync turned on to send the mail.
Not a big deal, but it means I'm more likley to use hotmail to share url links via email now, because its quicker, instant, and does not require me to enable sync which is great. I don't need to pull in weather, friendstream, gmail, and everything else. I can just hit "share via mail" send. done.
I guess its a gmail app problem.

If you have sync turned off, it's a problem with the user, not the app!

haha. fair enough Dave.
yeah I suppose I incorrectly expected it to work without sync turned on becuase the hotmail (htc mail widget) does. No biggy.
cheers for the replies.

One question though - why do you have sync disabled? If you don't want to sync everything (e.g. twitter/weather), just switch off those individually or change the schedule of those items to something more appropriate.
Regards,
Dave
I suppose the reason I don't normally have sync on is that I used to just do everything manually. i.e. just refresh the weather manually if I looked at it. Or refresh friendstream manually as I looked at it. Or open gmail if I wanted to check it etc. I suppose its a habit to save battery life, but I'll look into it now that you mention it, and maybe just set these things to update once per day etc. Then I can override that manually for each service as required, plus gmail would send instantly if I do it that way. Cheers, I'll have a look at doing that.

[Q] Gmail/Email update issue

All of a sudden my Gmail and other email address accounts (gmail app and mail app) are not automatically receiving my emails. It only works if I manually refresh my inboxes. Anyone run into this or have solution? thanks

Have you checked Menu|Settings|Accounts & Sync? Are they set to automatically sync? I remember on my Eris, when I'd flash a new ROM, there were times when the gmail sync mysteriously was not set to sync my gmail automatically. So now I always check

THanks for the reply... Yes, everything is set to automatically sync. BTW, this is on a stock unrooted incredible 2
Have you tried clearing the cache in each of the apps? I know sometimes this will clear up these kind of problems. Also might try to restart/reboot your phone.

[Q] Email Does not sync Automatically

hello everyone
I got the ONE X last night, and I am having a problem in automatically receiving my Emails.
I have set An Exchange Email, Gmail, and Yahoo mail using the device's mail app.
the "Auto-Sync" is Deactivated to save battery and avoid syncing other accounts.
in the mail settings of the Exchange Account, I set the "Peak time Sync" to (Push mail) which means (I guess!!) I would get the Email as soon as it reaches the account.
in the Gmail and Ymail, the Least time available on the "Peak time sync" is 5 minutes.
in either case, I am unable to receive the Emails unless I start the app and manually refresh!!!
the Email reaches Ymail or Gmail on the Laptop, I wait for more than 20 minutes with no notification on the device!
I didn't have this problem when I had the Galaxy SII, and sometimes the Exchange Email reached the device before the Laptop!!
this is very annoying and any suggestion is welcome!
I do not wanna go for the Ymail app from the Market or any other Exchange support app!
NOTE: the Gmail application in the Device behaves the same way,, does not sync until I manually refresh from the app itself
If you want to receive pushed data, auto-sync must be on.

When I had the SGSII I never turned the Auto-Sync On, and I used to get the Emails all the time very quickly!
Both are Android I do now know what is the problem!
Does any one have an idea about this issue??
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
as pa64 said, the emails will not sync with auto-sync disabled
turn it on and turn off auto sync manually for each app you don't want it to sync

I will give it a try. But doesn't this affect the battery life? Which is already not good?

possibly. but you can either turn it on and have push email or leave it off and have to manually check.
afaik auto-sync is a system wide switch for all updating. if you manually turn it off for everything other than mail only mail will be polling for updates. and there was some stuff a couple of years ago (with the iphone) that seemed to conclude that push is actually pretty battery efficient.

K9 mail help... PLEASE (Gmail Push not working)

Using K9 mail v4.011 (newest as of todays date from play store) on Samsung GS3 ICS 4.0.4 running on T-mobile USA network.
I have it Setup for 2 Gmail accts, used K9 automatic setup.
If I go to K9 settings, global, network, background sync, and set this to ANYTHING except never, K9 mail leaves the data connection on constantly, draining the battery and eating bandwidth. No matter wifi or mobile data. the indicator in the top bar is continuous solid SEND/RECEIVE always on. I verified this with Network Manager (also from play store) too.
So I Disable the background sync, and the constant data connection stops, but when I get an email, I never get notified by K9. I have the Gmail app set up also for the same email accounts, and if I have the stock gmail app set to notify me of incoming emails, I get instant push notification of new mail from the gmail app but not the k9 app.
So, I obviously have something not set up correctly for k9 to receive push correctly, but I don't know what I have set wrong? can anyone PLEASE help me?
I'm having the exact same problem. K9 worked great for push e-mail with my Samsung Captivate, but with the Galaxy S3 it works only intermittently (possibly more frustrating than if it didn't work at all).
I tried clearing the data in K9 and re-entering the account info. That seemed to work for a few hours, but now I'm back to no push mail. The GMail app continues to work fine--I'd just go with that, but I like that K9 works with Tasker; GMail does not.
I had this issue too a while back, it was when i was playing with the polling folder options. The only way I could get it back was to uninstall it, and reinstall with the factory settings. I don't have any issues with it receiving push on my S3.

Thanks for the input. I just uninstalled and reinstalled K9, and I'm still having a problem receiving push mail. I guess I'll just have to go with GMail.

I think the issue might be that you have both GMAIL and K9 pulling the same accounts. Trying setting up one that is not also in the GMAIL app. There may be a delay and K9 doesn't getting push. I seem to remember one time i played around with the incoming/outgoing servers too and had to actually use the POP servers.

From what I went thru, you can not use gmail app with K9 at the same time, un-install one or the other. and which ever one you use, do the settings there, btw, the only way I could get K9 to work was use a system uninstall and get rid of the worthless generic gmail app. Up to you, hope this helps, I have 4 email accounts in K9 and it polls correctly.

Thanks. I'll try fully uninstalling GMail. Most of the time, I've had it frozen in Titanium Backup, and I've still had the intermittent push failure in K9. I defrosted GMail and used it at the same time as K9 only as a control to test whether K9 was working.

Jelly Bean and Exchange Calendar - not working

Hi,
Since I upgraded to Jelly Bean, I can't get the stock calendar app to sync with my exchange account... It did work just fine with ICS 4.0.4 stock calendar, as well as with Touchdown. With JB, I have not been able to get it working with stock calendar... but it does work with Touchdown.
Under settings in the calendar stock app, I see the following entries:
- General settings
- my exchange account
- my gmail account
- About Calendar
When I click on the exchange account, it says " no calendar".
I thought it might have been an issue with the way I restored the account from TB. I restarted from scratch, same problem. Did several factory resets, same. Thought it could have been a bad flash, now I have flashed 4.1.1 and still the exact same problem...
I really don't see anymore what can be causing this. It is my only problem with JB which otherwise is just great...
Any suggestion on where the problem could come from?
Thank you.
Ah, strange. I just thought that I'd acticate "automatic push" mode, and guess what, my calendar items showed up in the stock calendar app...
I have always had my exchange account configured to manual (I want to decide when I see my work email) but this never did have an effect on calendar sync... Very strange.
I leave the topic here in case someone would have the same problem...
Thanks for that, been annoying me all day. Works a treat

Thanks for finding that solution. I tried several things last night and couldn't get it working. I was running ICS on my Rezound without that issue but I'm guessing it was due to Sense. I'm not a fan of automatic push but my exchange calendar is important.
two methods.
one: use exchang mail dirctly with out gmail.
then: use a google account and calender is automatically sync after that

I think that activating push was the way for the calendar to start syncing but then I went back to manual only for what I think is the email setting of Exchange account, and I have calendar syncing fine, while emails are fetched only when I explicitly ask. To me the activation of push was only a trigger, that I was able to undo later on...
That worked for me as well.

You're right had to activate push and there it is :good: thanks i was wondering what it didnt work no more.
setting to push worked for me too - seems really stupid, but it worked.
like others I don't like to have push on. Has anyone turned it off now and have new appointments show up?

Absolutly. This is what I did in the first place : Turn it on first, got the sync to work, then turn it off and voila, it works fine, as you expect.

My agenda is not syncing all items, strange ... It seems to be depending on the category. Before Jellybean all was fine, but now I am missing appointments from my corporate agenda, really strange. Anybody the same issue ? My phone has always been on push.

I've been helping my Dad with his T-Mobile Galaxy SII on AOKP JB Milestone, he's having the same issue right now with his Exchange Calendar not showing all appointments. Push has always been enabled. However it only shows random items from his Calendar, not all the items. I've wiped the device, reflashed, set up the Exchange account before the Google account, nothing seems to fix it. Only a few items from the Exchange Calendar show up.....
I've been searching on this issue it feels like forever now and your post is the closest I've found to the issue lol
Thanks for this! I was frustrated because the Google Calendar sync doesn't sync everything for some reason, but then I couldn't get the exchange calendar to sync. I switched to push, set up to display the calendar, and switched back to manual sync.
We'll see how it goes.
So I can also confirm the calendar continues to sync after setting sync back to manual.
I got a new calendar entry that synced and also edited another and those changes are also on my phone.
I still have problems to sync my exchange agenda with HTC desire HD, try all the suggestion meantion here.
Somebody a other suggestion.
I have no issues with ICS
Thanks
Willemans
Nitrodesk Touchdown works fine with JB...
Thanks,
works like a charme

Please go star this item and comment about how you can't get it to reproduce
1) add exchange account, but set sync to "manual"
2) go to Mail and download all your mail ("sync")
3) Go to Calendar and see that you can't add your Exhchange calendar as a possible calendar
4) go back and set your Exchange settings to "push"
5) go back to calendar and see your Exhange calendar has appeared
