Reverted back to 4.0.2 from 4.0.4 - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Not sure how many others have done this, but I had enough of 4.0.4
The problems I saw were (mostly radio related):
The lock screen was very laggy when unlocking the phone (> 1 sec)
The signal would flat out die before it cut over to edge in my basement
I would often see that the connection would die during sleep (powering on the phone and see it suddenly perk up)
A few occasions where answering the phone turned my screen black and dropped the call
Radio issues where, after multiple changes between edge/3g/hspa, I would only pull 1mbps down on hspa. A reboot ticked it back up to 5mbps.
Far worse data speeds in my house. Upstairs I could get 2mbps on 4.0.2 with XXKK6, with 4.0.4 on XXLA2 I was getting 0.6mbps at best.
Mind you, I've both applied the update via Clockwork Mod, and when that was having trouble reflashed the entire phone with the Google factory image.
So, last night I reflashed the 4.0.2 factory image instead. My computer was nice enough to hard lock on me in the middle of it, so I had to apply it twice, but I'm back on 4.0.2 and things are good now. I put Clockwork Mod back on as well to prevent an OTA from loading.
EDIT: Wow, 4 1-start votes already? Who would have thought that saying I ran into problems with 4.0.4 was the equivalent of personally insulting people?

Sound like you need to run BAMF
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk

Mine Nexus doesn't do that, must be some PEBKAC related problem.

Did you try a ugla4 or uglc2 radio and the smart reflex edit?
bow chicka wow wow.

I flashed from 4.0.2 yakjuxw to 4.0.4 yakju and i actually experience better radio reception, for the first time i get a low 3g reception in my house from time to time, before i only had a medium strong edge reception.

Thanks for the useless comment, because clearly I must be struggling with the fine motor function involved with sliding the lock screen slider to the right. Or, maybe it's the intricate knowledge involved with not changing any of the OS's radio settings and allowing it to try to manage itself.

I didn't because there were issues beyond radio problems, namely the sluggishness on unlocking it and the mysterious behavior that I saw answering calls a few times. I might get bored one weekend and try reflashing with one of those radios instead.
I've done the radio reflash song and dance before on 4.0.2 because of the bug that I both mentioned here and logged on Google:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488097
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=25316
Unfortunately, despite providing data, Google has totally ignored the issue. Ultimately I just decided to stick with XXKK6 and let it do its own switching.

My reception on calls has been fine, but the overall bugginess of the radio, particularly with data speeds, has been untenable.
So far my phone has been working much better with 4.0.2. Again, if I decide to flash 4.0.4 again and mess with the radio I'll update the thread.

Wow, I'm amazed at the hate this is attracting. Thanks!
I would have preferred suggestions about the problems my phone was having with 4.0.4, but it sounds like the only suggestions people are interested in making at this point would be of a personal nature.

I ran stock instead of custom for a few weeks but I just missed the little things. (Battery percent in status bar, toggles). I say try bamf for a dew days

Sorry people are like this on here. One thing you could always try is running 4.0.4 with 4.0.2 radios if you found better reception with them. There is a whole list of flash able radios

Its no wonder why most people feel this is the worst forum on xda. To be honest, its because of how people are in this thread and the hard time they give the op for no reason, that I can no longer stand coming here. I hope all of you so called experts brick your phones and leave here for good.

Ah, I didn't know if that was a safe thing to do or not. My hunch was that running older radios on newer ROMs might be dangerous; sounds like I was mistaken though.

Radios are not linked to version #'s like in the past. The reason they are labeled that way now is because it just so happens to relate to their corresponding release timing.

I must say I've noticed no difference coming from AOKP 4.0.3 to 4.0.4.Just some anomalous battery drain in standby but I can't help but flash experimental kernels every other day so that's more than likely the culprit.

Thanks, but I meant an actual negative number

If you had these same issues with the factory image, then you need to be posting this on the AOSP forum @ Google.

People are raving about 4.0.3 but where is it?

I don't want to flash a custom rom but all this talk about the vast improvements in 4.0.3 are making me wonder what the hold up is in rolling it out to Galaxy Nexus owners. At least GSM owners like myself, there aren't any carrier approvals required for that.

Not really sure what the hold up is. I too want the pure stock version of 4.0.3, don't like a lot of customizations are whatnot. Hopefully it will come soon.
I have used Bugless Beast, which is pretty much AOSP with very minor changes and fixes.
I held out for about two weeks lol.
Finally caved, I flashed AOKP and Franco's Kernel. Been loving it ever since I'll never go back to stock.

Nothing wrong with the battery life on the LTE version, you just have to turn off LTE
But then you get not so fast speeds. Verizon 3g maxes out around 3mbps. But most don't see even that. Though I do have to say Verizon 3g handles congestion better.

Are u on 4.0.3? Only happens w that version.
I've been hesitant to root, because the rooting process gives me a panic attack and I don't want to have to re-do it after a push to 4.0.3 happens. I take it there's no assumption yet as to when a push upgrade is due to happen?
I'm hesitant mainly because I'd have to wipe and because Google Wallet is working perfectly right now and I don't want to mess with it.

I had perfectly working google wallet also on 4.0.2 stock and thought I will just wait out till Google releases official 4.0.3. But then I got tired n flashed aokp.n believe me, it's like my phone is freaking fast .if you thought that 4.0.2 is smooth seriously you gotta try 4.0.3.its mind numbing. Plus Franco's kernel.
PS-i like all the customizations of aokp...except the bootanination.n wallet works.

Finally rooted my nexus

Now what? I used the toolbox which makes rooting and flashing way more useful then what I was used to with my fascinate.
I'm not sure what to do now. I'd like some feedback about which roms you guys are the best.
Like many of you I've been having issues with my radio, no data network, poor signal etc.
Is it worth flashing a new radio? Would it make much difference or is it not worth it? I'd hate to go so far that I can't get back to stock when updates become available.
Any feedback would be much appreciated.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
as long as you don't brick your phone, you can always go back to stock. There's no difference between going kinda far from stock and all the way from stock. Its just as easy to go back.
Definitely try the 4.0.4 radios.
And what the guy above said...
Returning to stock is always the same.
Flash a few images and relock = stock.
I'm currently using AOKP and I've found it to work for me. Radio-wise, I have no clue but everything works just as it should. I doubt I'll see a real world benefit in having a different radio.
Well, definitely do NOT flash CM9 first. Because once you've tried CM9 all the other roms will just be a disappointment. ;-)
But seriously, just try a few roms. There are some really good ones. I prefer CM9 (bugless, fast, and friendly for your battery), but AOKP is also very popular (feature-rich but some more bugs I believe). It's always easy to make a nandroid backup and restore it whenever you want.
Thanks all. After bricking my fascinate twice I became a little gun shy when it comes to mods. The tool box makes it so simple though, I couldn't resist. I'm trying cm9 as soon as I get home

I actually just rooted yesterday to combat my extremely poor signal here in Chicago on T-Mobile. My problem now is I have zero service on nearly every radio now. Tried them all waited 10 mins and rebooted and no signal bars. On 2 of them I can get bars but no service. I have upload arrows absolutely no download arrows. And I'm actually trying to load the market or xda and it just times out.

Many people suffered unexplainable signal drops while in deep sleep and other general sudden radio drops. It can't be because of the new radio that followed, since I have that and run CM9 and no signal-drops whatsoever.
So, Google decided to hold on to the second "batch" of OTA releases since the first batch caused problems. They will fix the error an re-release the OTA later. At least what I've heard, doesn't mean what I say is true.

My first 2 units suffered from hot reboots and dropped data even on stock roms. I hosed my 2nd phone and the third is on the way. I've been using my Epic 4G Touch this week and it flat out smokes the Nitro. Even running CM9 overclocked, the Nitro is slower than a stock GS2. I love the screen on the Nitro but the battery life and bugginess make it hard to deal with sometimes. I still think that a finished build of CM9 or even LG's version of ICS can make it the phone it should've been.

worth switching?

Hi , I'm currently using Lg g2x
and it seems like this phone is a good option for me right now.
i have a few question for the phone.
1. How are the driver and development support for this phone? ( both from samsung and devs)
my g2x is a pain right now because LG did not release enough drivers and we have no fully working ICS/JB and developments are dying....
2. Are there screen burn in problems?? (This was the major reason why I tried to avoid AMOLED phones)
3. what is your general opinion?
Thank you
This phone and the dev support kicks ass. I had no qualms about keeping this through the S3 cycle, and every time I think I want to upgrade, I'm reminded that this phone does everything I want it to do.

I'm in Canada as well(however with Wind Mobile) and so far the stock koodo or Telus radio suits the best(most reliable, no data drops, etc). You may try different radios from the thread below to see if any of those works better for you with your provider. The stock koodo is there too if you wanna go back to that.
Radios in general affect the mobile signal, data connection and wifi signal. On a side note, the Telus Jellybean release is just around the corner for our device (April), we will see how is the bundled radio performs once it drops.

Flashing a custom rom(unless stated otherwise by the rom developer) won't touch your radio. So in theory your signal and other radio characteristics will remain the same. However based on the feedback in the radio thread some radio performs better for some user depending on their location(most of them are US based Tmobile customer). So it's about trial and error, try them and see if you have better results with different ones (signal, ping, download/upload, voice quality, battery life).
For Wind mobile here in my location (Ottawa) the koodo radio is the champ.
