Roms roms roms....faster than stock? - HTC One X

OK guys. I'm almost almost pulling the trigger just need reconfirmation about the roms we have available now. Are they really a improvement from stock? I dont really talking visually. More like speed. Transitions. Stable. ...let me know please. Otherwise ill wait for the stupid OTA. I'm stock on 1.19

Yes most of the rom developers on here you'll find remove all of the bloatware you don't need, which in turn you'll notice your phone running smoother with less services running.

[POLL]Will you be running Stock Android or TouchWiz based ROMs?

I am going to be running Stock Android just because of how buttery smooth it is. Oh and yes if you didn't know we have a pretty much fully functional cm10 ROM!!! Will post details if anyone needs them

It isnt available and won't be for awhile. Plus I love the big screen on the phone and the fact that its made by Samsung. I've had bad experiences with LG products

This is probably the first phone I wouldnt root if it wernt for the need to remove carrier IQ. I wish we had a temproot so I could get carrierIQ out and keep the phone stock . I <3 touchwiz. Way more polished than sense imho .
So conflicted atm... But... think will wait just a /bit/ longer for it to shake out.
Bah, who am I kidding, downloading now.
---------- Post added at 06:32 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:31 AM ----------
Known issues:
- The stylus doesn't work. Need to investigate.
- Radio crashes every now and then.
- Audio in phone calls requires an initiation phase: make 2 phone calls to any number when you boot up to get audio functional on the 3rd call.
Ah, perhaps I will wait that big longer.
I'll be running stock TW until I get tired of it, then I'll try some launchers and get tired of those. Thats when I'll flash a new ROM and Kernel.
I'm going to stick with TouchWiz so that my phone would be fully functional as it was meant to be. Also, TW has drastically gotten much better and I already like the feel of it. It's already fast and buttery smooth. And with my phone rooted I had it tweaked at 5x5 grid with scrolling wallpaper and a sweet ass theme.
I haven't rooted yet, in the past only did it to have full data access (tether) that I pay for, and delete bloat. But with new updates coming at some point I've been making due just fine so I'll wait until after the big update to decide if I'll root. As far as stock versus touchwiz lol now that's easy regardless to the screen size or how smooth it runs I couldn't imagine losing my pen that's how I enter text etc and once of my main reasons for buying, could have kept my S3 & yes 4.8 to 5.5 is different but let's be serious why get a note 2 only to root and put stock.........losing all the reasons to own a note two ........laughing out loud. And FINALLY you delete carrier IQ Lmao, ok fine but if you haven't noticed this won't stop big brother so your peace of mind is shot boots. Non existent
Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk 2
Besides the screen size, the S pen is the obvious stand out feature. Without all the S pen additions it'll be "just a big phone". I'm sticking with TW until I decide to completely give up on using the S pen.
I want to run stock but I'll probably wait awhile until all the spen goodies are rolled in. I don't use it that much, but I'd hate to lose it. My last experience with TW was the Vibrant. So far it hasn't been that bad. I'm running Nova Launcher.
The only function I use from stock is the pop up browser. I never use the pen unless I'm showing someone the gimmick of drawing with it. So yes. I'd love me some CM10.
Sent from my Note 2 with JediX
Touchwiz all the way. Not a huge fan of stock android.. plus I would lose all these cool features of a Samsung phone.

I'm sticking with TW for awhile or at least until we get some better custom ROMs. I like TW and the settings but not the Samsung and Tmobile apps.

I think your terms are misleading. To me, CM10 and AOKP aren't "Stock Android", they're "AOSP" or "Vanilla Android". Of course that's just semantics. "Stock" is the ROM that the phone shipped with. With that in mind....
I'll be running a rooted TouchWiz "stock" ROM, debloated (my idea of debloated), with Nova Launcher. I get the best of both worlds that way, in my opinion. All the goodies that Samsung has done to the phone that make it BETTER, in my opinion, than "AOSP", plus I can add the best of other ROMs. With Nova Launcher, I have the "look & feel" of "AOSP" as well.
YMMV.
By the way, why didn't you add an actual poll to the thread?
This phone + Paranoid Android is all I need. Most of samsungs apps are inferior to their aosp counter parts. The only thing I'll be losing out on is the s pen which I have never actually used in a useful way anyway. Samsung has great hardware but their software and design choices need improvement.
i'll be moving to cm10 once they sort out the calling/audio issue.. i bought this phone because it's a performance beast and the lovely screen.. the s-pen wasn't even a consideration in the purchase for me.. sure, it's a neat gimmick (pull out lightsaber sounds to amuse the kids) but i can't see myself using it for anything..
I'll be using it on touchwiz, since wifi calling is a must and multiview, while i'm really anticipating it, isn't a big enough reason for me to root just yet (I'm lazy and this phone is awesome even without root/custom ROMs). One day I will, but for now I'm just going to mess with the phone

One of the best thing about custom roms is that you get all the goodies before the updates that sometimes come months later if at all.For me,when I flash a custom rom on my android device it finally becomes mine.Until then you are literally AT&T/Verizon's etc, etc, etc *****.With all that useless crap on your phone that is forced on you without a choice.I personally like to have full control over what is on my device especially because now a days these "toys" cost as much as my laptop.Again,my personal preference. If anything I would try to talk you into re-rooting.LOL
p.s I am running cleanRom and it is absolutely the bees knees.

Amen. The battery life, at least in my experience, is unquestionably superior on Jedi vs stock, and i fought hardddd to stay stock like constantly diagnosing wake locks and battery usage.

Well...duh...did you honestly expect something better than what you had ? Did you suddenly expect a pushed update from AT&T to offer you a better experiance than those 3 custom roms ? Ease of updates...? I don't get it...Are you actually trying to say relying on a OTA update is easier than actually flashing a new update yourself ? Are you saying waiting and waiting and hoping you get a good ota download and it flashes properly for you..is better than being able to flash and being able to reflash if you actually need it ?
Sorry if I sound rude...but come on...get real would you...You knew the benifits going in and why you rooted it and flashed them..and now you want folks to paint a all rosey picture that a full blown unrooted phone is better than a rooted one running those 3 custom roms...Sorry...it ain't going to happen unless it is coming from someone who didn't install something correctly..or just perfers the bloat and limitations of a stock phone..
If you want & like the stock feel and look...flash Scott's AT&T special edition of his Clean rom..It's debloated..and he has linked to some theming for it..
If you want to go way beyond..wait for Truth's new one out later today or tommorrow..It's fully themed..debloated..has all the latest & greatest available..is fast..and everything works on it..What more could you want...
Personally...I won't ever run a stock phone on purpose after the allowable return time for it..Triangle away has removed the worry of returning it for service..and TWRP has made flashing anything a non issue as well..
It's your phone..run it the way you want to..and be happy..but please don't ask on a developers forum to be convinced to stay on a stock rom..that is just plain lame...IMHO
Mac
I know exactly what you mean and I did feel the same way. Samsung has done an amazing job with this phone. However I have used Jedi, miscoms international roms, cleanrom, now on cleanatt. I have found with a on a custom kernel either persus or the aslyum/note2core. As long as I undervolted and didn't over clock my battery life was a lot better than stock and phone was much quicker and responsive over stock and still had all the great features. We have some awesome devs here for roms and kernels. To me is a very hard choice on what rom to stay on as well as kernel. They are all amazing in there own ways and in my opinion all awesome. I hope no devs flame me I'm just saying they are all very intelligent people at this and I see great things in all there work. AS FOR NOW. I'm on Scotts dedicated at&T. I have took around 40 user and system apps that "I" consider bloat and running persus kernel with the profile zip of 2 offered. My battery life is insane. All day of heavy use and still about 70perecnt left after 8 hours or so. Hope I may have helped you or someone else. I love open source

I have been over clocked to 1800 and above on Jedi and pulled over 2 days off charger with over 8 hours screen time. If you want to stick with stock look, Clean Special build and definitely a kernel. They pull the debugging crap out, optimize voltages, etc. Kernel devs have been working magic...and finding bugs that Sammy, HTC, missed
Edit...patiently waiting for that Blackout later today.

I think updates are "cleanrom" are pretty easy. Named "clean..." for a reason and I feel like it's stock with added benefits. Have fun deciding.

On many phones I have stayed on stock for stability and feature set. In many cases when you go to another rom (especially AOSP) you lose TW features, S-Pen, etc... and in many cases I find not everything is 100%
That said the Note II development is fantastic. Many of the TW based roms give you everything you get with stock, but with more. AOSP you lose the TW feature set but it is amazingly stable and fast with a whole lot of other features.
With my S3 I could not find a single rom that I did not have problems on, but with the Note II I have a harder time deciding WHICH rom to use :good:

I agree with this guy. Even with my acer liquid mt when I rooted it and used the leaked gingerbread rom for it, the camera (which i use a lot got messed up and would over expose the pictures to white messes of garbage) and I noticed that after switching back to the normal stock rom with root, the camera would screw the video with red green and blue lines...gross I know...
And plus, just like my old ipod touch 2g (which doesnt work cuz the battery is dead. big surprise CRapple) it looked as normal as it should, but behind the curtain, the device was screaming at me to stop, every little tweak, hack, or anything I could do to the device. (Except install android on it because the project cut off 2Gs)
So what im saying is, its more fun to screw with the stock app.
Dont like the boatware?
Download a root app uninstaller.
Dont like anything about most devices?

The same day I purchased my Note 2, I had it rooted and has TWRP installed on it. Day 2 I was flashing roms. I guess I just really like to tinker with my phones, because where was nothing wrong with stock!
C.FLAT, "I'm staying in stock to keep the slow motion video feature. And because CM 10's camera is really glitchy"
If you are that concerned with the camera features working why not flash a ROM like Scrosler's CLEAN ROM ATT SE. It made from ATT base. Completely stock without the bloatware. Everything works perfectly and you are not at the mercy of your carrier to recieve OTA's instead your at Scroslers lol. But seriously, I would much rather get/wait for updates from a DEV here on XDA (Where I can talk directly to the DEV and or people in the thread also using the ROM) instead of waiting for carriers to take forever and you can't directly talk to the team of people who made the Official ROM . So for me if you want stock look and feel with no bloatware and is more customizable than actual stock I would go with a ROM based or made from complete stock base. Just my 2 cents

I rooted just because I can. Aside from a few minor tweaks from tweakbox, I'm still completely stock. Haven't flashed any roms or mods, although the WiFi tether mod has peaked my interest. This phone is nearly perfect right out the box. Haven't felt the need to install a custom Rom. Most of them are stock roms anyway.
I rooted in order to use TWRP recovery and various xposed tweaks. I can honestly say that after rooting and applying some xposed mods, I don't even miss the AOSP experience on my previous Nexus devices. This stock ROM (with the right tweaks) absolutely flies and has some nice features that I'd miss with an AOSP ROM. I think my days of flashing AOSP ROMs are over.

Many will be running stock, but it wont be the op definition of stock (aka no root) this is after all...xda development, according to the vote, 87% are here just for that lol
I pretty much always root, but I couldn't stay stock since I found the UI to be unresponsive at times. I'm currently running the SkyDragon ROM and kernel along with Nova Launcher and other mods.
I went ahead and rooted my phone in order to get rid of the lag/stutter and to get rid of bloat and Carrier IQ. Of course, as I've gotten farther down the rabbit hole, I now have TWRP Recovery and have downloaded (not installed yet!) Skydragon's ROM and Kernel to take advantage of further optimizations.
I had a One (m7) and a G2 and never felt the need to root as T-Mobile's footprint on them was pretty limited. But, getting back in the saddle on XDA and using these amazing developers' work has rekindled my interest in the details!
