[Q] Is it possible to enable webtop on GNexus? - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Like they made in Atrix, they also made it with the cable, so in theory, if GNexus is MHL enabled, you can output your video on a monitor.
So, is there anyway to enable webtop on it?
If there isn't, is somewhere the source code of webtop on Atrix, so I can learn and try to port it to GNexus?
Thnks

No. And probably not.

Y not? isn't that possible?
Like they ported that to all motorola phones already, and ubuntu team launched ubuntu for android wich may work with all the phones that have HDMI/MHL enabled!

Didn't say it was impossible. You make it sound like it is easy. Why don't you have a crack at it? Start with motorola's framework, how you're going to divvy up the ram, drivers, connectivityand whatever else. Let us know how it goes. Oh btw, you aren't getting paid for this. Just the satisfaction of doing and maybe some high fives. Maybe some donations if you get a usable port going.

Ill try to make that port, i was just asking if is there some port already.
What I wanna is to go with ubuntu for android, but ubuntu just realeased for manufacturers, so I guess I can't get that.
But if there isnt any port, ill try to look around for the motorolas one.
If someone wants to help, I'll start a thread after i got something.
Thanks anyway

From searching around I believe our phone uses the 72k right. So is a open psjailbreak port doable for this phone? Why or why not? Thanks

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I wasn't aware the recent PS3 hack was related to 72k otherwise I might have an answer for you already.
In the event that you're still around at this moment: what does the jailbreak do, exactly? Does it unlock NAND or does it give us ring 0 access?

Nevermind - I misunderstood your question. I thought you meant that this exploit somehow allowed us to access our bootloader, but CR made me realize that you just want to be able to use the Slide to exploit the PS3? Bah, sorry, not interested personally. Not sure why using a flash drive is so difficult
EDIT: if you can't use a flash drive then I'm sorry. If I had a PS3 to test this I might be bored enough to port it, but I'm not. Also, Sony already released a new mandatory firmware upgrade that defeats this exploit, so if you want to play games on PSN, you're screwed.
yea im waiting for usb to arrive, that is not my problem just thought it would be cool to be able to use my phone. as well the firmware update checks can be bypassed with a simple change of dns adress or with a proxy tool. just wondering why it could or couldnt be ported. i am new to android but love my rooted slide. would like to learn more about the community and if someone decides to port i may not be much help but would like to be involved in the process just for the learning experience

effort in > advantage out, meaning that the amount of work to port this isn't worth it to most of us just for a 'coolness' factor.
that PS3 hack is going to ruin the PS3, just wait and see. Sony won the lawsuit against the AUS companies, just a matter of time before they win against the USA companies and the bans start rolling out.
glad I sold my PS3 and gave up on games a long time ago.
The PS3 jailbreak will only support the PSP & USB flash drive and that's it. Im guessing you own one of those right?
There are custom built kernels and roms for the jailbreak already for the nexus one, milestone, dream and various other devices including a TI-84 calculator version.

Sorry, haven't been up to date with Andro, been busy with school lately...Just saw this article http://www.engadget.com/2010/09/05/ps3-jailbreak-adapted-to-nokia-n900-palm-pre-in-wake-of-austral/
Hope dumfuq can implement this for us too.
yes im interested in this too... i was looking at the source to try and compile it with slide kernel but it was confusing haha ill leave it to the pros.....

Kinda stupid but...

Will the Samsung Epic 4G ever get official CyanogenMod Support? I just got one and opened it this morning and I'm regretting it a little bit. I could still change it for the Evo, but I like this phone, so I was just wondering if more developers will support this device and if it'll ever have official CM support...? Thanks.
Definitely stupid, no kinda about it.
If you had bothered to look around for less than 5 minutes you'd have seen that there is currently a CM7 port in progress that meets criterion for Official support and just needs to be submitted to receive official support.
Damn I didn't know you could Search my entire history and see that I didn't read that Thread? Oh wait, you can't... and hold on, I did.
It is just a port though. When's it going to be submitted? And also, how about Gingerbread? Samsung's been known for leaving a lot of their phones behind... you think we'll ever get Gingerbread or not?
It will be submitted when it's complete, if you read it like you say you did you would know that, and the Evo doesn't exactly have an official Gingerbread either so that would hardly be a logical criterion in keeping the phone.
Yeah, but it does have official CM7 support, and if you asked me which manufacturer I'd believe in more to provide me some Christmas Treats, I'd say HTC. Oh, and the neighbors loud music.
Hey I traded my evo for an epic and it has its pros and cons. It really is a much better device, better screen, faster, and it has the physical keyboard. The big down side is there is not as many devs on it.
There is a team right now working on build CM7 from source for the epic so it will then be supported by the cm team. They are getting close but there still are some bugs.
If I was you I would hold on to the epic its a pretty damn good phone.
Edit: CM will only support a CM rom if its built from source, so as right now its not supported by cm. But from what I understand they are still helping.
I strongly agree with what you said, and for that, I will hold onto the phone. Thanks for that.

Lmao!
How about a Galaxy S2 Port... anybody think that'll ever happen?

Will anyone make a 3.2 rom for EVO?

3.2 in AOSP, will anyone make a Rom?

i believe that is only for tablets, i may b wrong, and that doesnt look to be the full source for 3.2 so it wouldnt work for our evos.
Yup, it's a start, but still need to wait for the full source to get any really good ports going. It might be possible to run on a phone, but poster above me is correct that it's made for tablets.
I know we had some SDK ports around here, but I don't remember them being more than a proof of concept and not a daily driver kind of deal.
Honestly I don't think we will ever see this. We might get some themes for the look but the overall guts probably not.
I don't remember what tablet it was(Samsungs maybe) but the bounty is/was $400+ to get it to function as a phone about 6 months ago and I don't think it's happened. This would be roughly the same concept here too.

WebOS port? :3

The HP Pre 3, uses the same Qualcomm chip as the Incredible 2, and me, a BIG webOS fan, would actually really enjoy seeing WebOS on the Incredible 2. Someones got it working on the Evo 3D apparently according to precentral (Now webosnation) so I'm sure people could get it working on the Incredible 2. Anyone want to try when it's all ready?
If someone is willing to take the time to port it, I'd dang sure be one to try it.

aw. I read that it looks beautiful on a high density screen. I really love WebOS, I hope when the source releases someone ports it.
What I'm more excited about when it comes to the webOS source being released is people frankensteining it with android and creating some epic hybrid roms.

Depends what license the.release it under.....just open sourcing it doesn't mean they will allow ut to be tinkered.with like that (if its even possible)
I'm not sure exactly what license would allow that, but no one wants hp suing them

The reason it failed was old hardware. Palm and HP used old hardware which was slow for it.
I would try this out in a heartbeat.
Git-r up an runnin'!!!
Like a hobo on a ham sandwich, I'll be on dat. Just for ships and wiggles.
I really like Web OS from the times I used it but I had a feeling from the start it was a failing system so I never got one of the phone. I would love a port or a hybrid. That would be awesome.

Not only that, but the difficulty of the SDK drove developers away from it to the much easier iOS and Android environments...
I had a Pre... the App selection for the WebOS phones was abyssmal.. sure, we had preware, but that didn't make up for it.

The parts that have already been released were under GPL v2, so that's a logical assumption for the rest of it.

Some n00b Questions about Galaxy Nexus / Google Devices

So Hi,
I finally got sick of my Galaxy S II, will sell it on ebay, and I ordered a Nexus some Minutes ago.
Well, I have a few questions about the Galaxy Nexus...
1. It's a Google device, so can I just download the pure AOSP, compile it, put it on the Galaxy Nexus and everything will run without hacking around?
2. Do I lose warranty of doing point 1? Since it's a google maintained device...
3. It sounds strange, but can I also compile gingerbread or froyo? WOULD it be possible, or would it be a hard task?
4. Is a Nexus device a good device for starting developement of Kernels / Roms? I son't have experience with that, but I wanted to begin. I made some funny tries on my Huawei U8160, but it can do ... ehm ... nothing interesting...
5. What else should I know, when I own a Nexus device?
Thanks for answering my questions

1. Yes. Stock runs pretty well so that is always an option. You might need to hack it to a "yakju" build to receive updates from Google. You can find more about this in other threads.
2. You'll lose warranty, but it doesn't matter. If you need to send it back for warranty purposes, just relock the bootloader and get rid of any evidence that you were rooted. Stock Google Images are present to get you back to stock.
3. I don't see a reason why you would want to compile Gingerbread or Froyo for it. It's a step backwards especially when Ice Cream Sandwich is amazing. You can try but complications will arise getting all the features to work, but again.. I see no purpose in this because Gingerbread / Froyo isn't optimized for dual-cores.
4. Yes its a developer phone for a reason.
5. Enjoy the Nexus experience, the way Android should be without all these manufacturers putting ugly/laggy skins on top of Android.
Hi,
tanks for the fast answer.

I also don't see any reason... but who cares, I just wanted to know if it's possible to do this - maybe just to set myself something like a destiny, something like "I want to learn that much that I can do BLABLABLA"
But yes, I bought the Nexus just because of Icecreamsandwich, I think the hardware of the galaxy s ii is better, so it feels a bit like a downgrade.

Lol, I guess it could be a project for you. There are other alternatives like webOS (which is now open sourced).... OR when Honeycomb gets open-sourced (if it ever does) you can port that lolol.
I don't think Galaxy S2 hardware is better, if only thing I'd say the processor possibly. But the screen size and 720p display just leads the road and makes Galaxy Nexus go way further than GS2 imo.
Well, two things that the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have (and oh how badly I wish they did) is the camera and the microSD slot. Other than that, the Galaxy Nexus seem to be on the up and up.
I, too, would like to know how to make Gingerbread and Froyo work on the Galaxy Nexus. It's not a practical thing, but just a "hey, if it's suppose to be a development platform, why can't we?"
Perhaps it's the binary drivers. But mostly I think it's because of the lack of physical buttons.
This makes me wonder if I should get a Nexus S to learn on so I can work with many different versions of Android to my heart's content, as well as extend my learned knowledge to other retail-based phones (HTC, Samsung, LG, etc) since they will also have physical (well, touch sensitive anyways) buttons.
I'm no programmer. I just want to learn how to compile from source, and also to find out how to make the source code work with different devices. Kind of like installing Windows on different PCs (downloading drivers, etc).
