[Q] msm72k - myTouch 3G Slide Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

From searching around I believe our phone uses the 72k right. So is a open psjailbreak port doable for this phone? Why or why not? Thanks

Thanks for bringing this to my attention! I wasn't aware the recent PS3 hack was related to 72k otherwise I might have an answer for you already.
In the event that you're still around at this moment: what does the jailbreak do, exactly? Does it unlock NAND or does it give us ring 0 access?

Nevermind - I misunderstood your question. I thought you meant that this exploit somehow allowed us to access our bootloader, but CR made me realize that you just want to be able to use the Slide to exploit the PS3? Bah, sorry, not interested personally. Not sure why using a flash drive is so difficult
EDIT: if you can't use a flash drive then I'm sorry. If I had a PS3 to test this I might be bored enough to port it, but I'm not. Also, Sony already released a new mandatory firmware upgrade that defeats this exploit, so if you want to play games on PSN, you're screwed.

yea im waiting for usb to arrive, that is not my problem just thought it would be cool to be able to use my phone. as well the firmware update checks can be bypassed with a simple change of dns adress or with a proxy tool. just wondering why it could or couldnt be ported. i am new to android but love my rooted slide. would like to learn more about the community and if someone decides to port i may not be much help but would like to be involved in the process just for the learning experience

effort in > advantage out, meaning that the amount of work to port this isn't worth it to most of us just for a 'coolness' factor.

that PS3 hack is going to ruin the PS3, just wait and see. Sony won the lawsuit against the AUS companies, just a matter of time before they win against the USA companies and the bans start rolling out.
glad I sold my PS3 and gave up on games a long time ago.

The PS3 jailbreak will only support the PSP & USB flash drive and that's it. Im guessing you own one of those right?

There are custom built kernels and roms for the jailbreak already for the nexus one, milestone, dream and various other devices including a TI-84 calculator version.

[Request] OpenPSJailbreak/PSGroove PS3 Jailbreak App for HTC EVO 4G

As the tite states, I was wondering if any EVO dev's are interested in porting the OpenPSJailbreak/PSGroove/PSFreedom Jailbreak for Playstation 3 over to an app/kernel for the EVO specifically. I would rather have a dev who knows EVO's make it, plus it may be easier with a custom kernel.
Would totally donate.

I'd sure as **** donate too, however has it been confirmed as being real? I legit just learned about it all yesterday (been playing way more 360 than my ps3 over the past few months)...
I found this blog tonight
http://netzke.blogspot.com/
The team say they are currently working on an android and iphone port. You can try asking them which android OS version and android phones are supported.
Over on the N1 forums, they're trying to do the same thing. Might want to keep an eye out on their progress.
WHat does jailbreaking a PS3 do? Is it just modding so you can play burned games?

I made it onto his beta team but at the rate everything is headed, I believe him to be a scammer now.
What does this do? Can someone please explain?
Thanks
You are essentially using your phone as a USB hub, and then sending some commands to enable debug mode to the PS3, enabling the use of Homebrew/Backups.
There is a lot of work going on in the Desire forums atm:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=772795
If they are successful, it will work on all phones using MSM_72K as the USB controller. This includes all HTC phones I believe.

I read it was rumored Sony already released a PS3 Firwmare Update today or yesterday that patched this exploit
But in other news, they ported this to a TI-84 Calculator LOL.
Even though Sony patched the firmware you still don't have to take it. Just stay at 3.41 for the time being if you want to run the exploit.

True.
Although I do like my online play.
I'm considering finding an older PS3 on craigslist or something, updating that to 3.41 and using it just for this, and keeping my PS3 Slim untouched and updated regularly
update dns
There are proxy dns available that will allow you to still play online without getting any updates.
You assume the risk however that if you do hack your system, they will detect either the hack or some of the Software used in the process and ban you.
As of now it is best to have two consoles, one for experimenting and one for legit. OR ASSUME ALL RISKS!

[Q] source codes from yesterday

Okay so I know that the EVO 4G 2.3.3 source code was released yesterday and now I see a few ROMs and Kernels based on it. My question is... IS THERE A ROOT FOR THIS PHONE YET???
are those roms and kernels for people who already have root??? If so is anyone actually working on a root now that the source code is finally out? ...
Thank you

Nope, now that the EVO is a budget phone anyway. It's a known fact that you can't root a budget phone.

Don't worry friends. I'm sure the EVO devs out there are working on sifting thru all that source code to find an exploit. Also, just because it's a budget phone doesn't mean it doesn't still kick ass.

CM9 will come with root access turned off (from the rom) by default. There is a new option so that you can turn root on be it for
Disabled,
Enabled for ADB only
Enabled for Apps only
Enabled for both.
That's all this really is.
Root is taken out of the builds for security purposes. You can enable root through adb.

You CAN enable ADB root using ADB which almost seems like a security flaw ADB root access is off by default as well.
But from what I have read ADB will not be required to set this. It just has to be changed by the user from the development options.
I have been wondering about this for a looooooong time. When we root our devices we are voluntarily opening up the biggest hole possible. I'm glad to see it addressed in such a practical manner.
Cyanogen sucks now.
They sucked ever after CM6, they just can't get anything out anymore.
They just can get anything developed anymore.
Very disappointing. Thier roms were awesome, but i think he lost his touch.
I honestly can't figure out why they have so much invested, website, hosting and all, and just can't put out a functioning rom anymore.
They are just kanged left and right now to get roms developed, since they never get around to doing anything.
AOKP is the new Cyan. They rock.

....maybe it's just the devices you've owned?
Ask someone with an OG droid, or someone with an Evo, or a Hero, or a GSM Samsung Anything....Hell, CM7 is fantastic on my Nook Color....Cm9 is too, though--I don't remember--I think It's a kang....
The only issue I've had has been with CDMA Samsung handsets...
EDIT: I guess what I mean to say is, there is so much to support that unless you have one of the heavily supported (or easily supported) devices then the fact that it boots up and works at all should be impressive enough.....On all the above mentioned devices I had a nearly flawless experience far preferable to stock....and even with the CM7 kangs (though I haven't tried the CM9s yet). I'm not so sure we'll ever get official support at this rate, though I'm not convinced that's a death sentence. Bubby's Cm7 was working nearly flawlessly for me, aside from a scant few mildly irritating bugs....

I saw nightlies left and right on my OG Evo and though the E4GT may not get official CM7 support, We'll surely get offical CM9.
They couldn't get much done for a while because they were using older servers that couldn't keep up. Now they have nightlies going on the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus S, Xoom, Asus Transformer, Asus Transformer Prime, and the HP Touchpad.
I'm sure we'll get nightlies soon enough and you'll be seeing official functioning ROM's everywhere.
We already have functional CM9.
What is AOKP built on anyway?

I think they're trying to go mainstream, maybe OEMs will start putting CM on their phones instead of their own skins. It would be a huge selling point.

Problem is the root is still easily accessible. You would see them providing rooting methods for their own software before you saw that. The carriers would also want nothing to do with it. The manufacturer still has the concern of warranty while the carriers have the concern of tethering etc. Carriers likely would never reject an entire manufacturers line, they will always have to cave to some things they do not like.
Though selling unlocked devices with CM much as PC manufacturers will sell hardware with alternative operating systems isn't outrageous. As for the concern of warranty and software caused damage. Routers for example have set a precedent in the support of custom firmware while maintaining warranty. There is plenty of unbricking support in routers. Though providing accessible jtag interfaces in devices that would be sold both retail and unlocked would probably be interesting. Thats just a need in a worst case scenario though not required.
They do seem to be moving in that direction for whatever intent or purpose.

[Q] Is it possible to enable webtop on GNexus?

Like they made in Atrix, they also made it with the cable, so in theory, if GNexus is MHL enabled, you can output your video on a monitor.
So, is there anyway to enable webtop on it?
If there isn't, is somewhere the source code of webtop on Atrix, so I can learn and try to port it to GNexus?
Thnks

Didn't say it was impossible. You make it sound like it is easy. Why don't you have a crack at it? Start with motorola's framework, how you're going to divvy up the ram, drivers, connectivityand whatever else. Let us know how it goes. Oh btw, you aren't getting paid for this. Just the satisfaction of doing and maybe some high fives. Maybe some donations if you get a usable port going.

[Q] help Root SCH-i535PP on 4.4.2

Ive been searching night and day trying to find a way to root my galaxy S3 (SCH-i535) running 4.4.2 . Ive come up empty handed and as may know TOWEL ROOT DOES NOT WORK ON THIS BUILD. The most progress I have made is unlocking developer options with 7-tap doctrine. (haha) So this is pretty much a "calling all car" for those out there who are well versed in the art of rooting and all things $ sudo.
Info on safely reverting to an android OS that is rootable would also be useful.
l or any knowledge about the SCH-I535PP on 4.4.3 (pre paid verizon Galaxy S3) and exploits discovers .
Im lightly knowledgeable in Terminal, soooooo. If any one knows some work arounds or anything that would at least make me smile please feel free to write.
Tell me me what you all know and restore my faith in the power of the internet community.
much love,
-Lifehertz
ive also been looking
ive also been looking to root my phone also. all ive been able to dig up is possible roms that might be flashable with this model. and help would be greatly appreciated!
I knew I wasnt alone.
For some reason i have faith that someone is working on getting this phone rootable.
Until then lets keep the conversation going.
Do you have any links to these rims. Also, what are your thoughts?
I want root too because this phone is not compatible with samsung gear apps for my neo...very heartbreaking. ..wanted to put more apps on my watch but can't because this verizon galaxy s3 prepaid is not updated like all the other ones.....
Hey guys, I'm just posting to join in the misery. I feel like a hero for getting past the activation setup wizard! I have spent many hours researching how to root this stupid phone, and at this point its my white whale. There will be a way eventually, and this thread can be our anchor when that day comes. If anyone has a problem with the setup wizard, let me know.
The white whale under my friend.
Im curious as to how long the SCH-I535PP has been available on 4.4.3.
Because if it has been a short amount of time then the true developers and root wizards
Probably haven't had much need or want to work on a root for this phone.
I am noticing though after walmart dropped the price of the phone severely
And christmas came around. There are a Lot of new SCH-I535PP users. So maybe if we keep asking around and raising awareness about this build needing root, then a root genie will hear the cries of the community and get to work granting us our wish.
Verizon really locked this up with the recent update. This phone is two years old and there are many stronger phones coming out the root gods are focusing on blessing. But, its not hard to see that the SCH-I535PP is fantastic tool for its price point.
Please, anyone who reads this and is well versed in rooting phones, please do the SCH-I535PP community a solid and help us step out from being the prison bars of 4.4.2.
Thank you for letting me ramble. I hope it helped keep the spirit alive. Haha
Disclaimer: I'm an android noob, and everything in this post could be wrong. I'm just trying.

I know that version of kitkat was released on June 2nd, 2014, if that helps.
I don't understand whether ALL sch-i535 after that date are blocked from rooting, or ONLY the sch-i535pp (prepaid) version. I've read conflicting things because the circumstances change over time, but the threads on forums stay the same. What was true 5 months ago might not be true anymore.
I believe (could be wrong) that every single phone that was updated after June 2nd is completely SOL and blocked from being rooted. I think Towelroot was the last thing that worked for anybody, and even that method is lost to ANYTHING with a Kernel date of June 3rd or later. Mine is July 22nd. I believe the truth is that the vast majority of people that are rooted are just not updating to KitKat because they know it will un-root them and the party is over. I think that anyone with a phone that is old but updated to kitkat can reset to factory and get back to JellyBean or whatever version they originally had that can be rooted. So that leaves a small, but growing population that just simply can't root because we have the newest galaxy S3s with late kernel dates off the shelf . It's just getting harder and harder to find exploits. They guy who wrote towelroot works for google now, finding/fixing exploits that he once used to hack phones.
Either the population will catch up with us 'un-rootables' or they will leave us behind as bigger and better things come along. The Galaxy S3 is (kind of) yesterday's problem. I'm just sayin.....
I truly hate to be the burden of bad news but I can't say I'm surprised by verizon finally locking down the S3. The contract version was rumored to have been locked down with a version past the last official OTA of 4.4.2 but it seems that the pp version was moved to 4.4.3 which in all seriousness was then locked down by big red
Going forward I'd stay away from verizon as far as phones go, the short version of this is the fact that they will try anything possible to lock down every android phone they can

Damn it. The mutiny. The injustice!
Im beginning to accept this fact. You all have been great. If verizon is a bust, do you know of any prepaid phones that are easily rooted? I might sell this stupid paper weight. My goal is to be able to fully use terminal and learn the android Unix shell. These things are extremely powerful and yet we arent supposed to know or use its power..

How about someone looks for the 4.3 kernel for this phone, flashes it through ODIN, root with towelroot, and goes back to the new kernel with root! That's what they did with the AT&T Galaxy S5, and it should work and Verizon devices too.
