Vzw DI2 replacement - Verizon Droid Incredible 2

I cracked the screen of my phone yesterday, but its not bad enough to prevent touchscreen use. Suppose I wanted to pay the $89 and get the insurance replacement.....anyone know if Big Red is still giving replacement Incredible 2s? If not, what would they offer me?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA

Unless something has changed since Thursday (Mine has a bad headphone jack) you will get an Incredible 2.
Why would they have changed this? They are still selling quite well in stores.
I really thought long and hard after losing my last Incredible 2 - really thought about upgrading but there is nothing I really like and would rather wait.

I knew they were still giving them out recently, but I know the shelf life of Android phones is getting shorter due to the roll out of 4G devices. I've had my phone about a year and didn't know what this phone's status was as far as insurance claims was. Thanks for the quick reply!

Who is or isn't returning their EVO?

I'm reading a lot of complaints about the EVO. But how many of you are returning it before the month is up.
As for me I had the HTC Mogul then the HTC Touch Pro2. Still love my Touch Pro2 but i'm going to sell it.
The EVO is the first android i ever had, the best phone i ever had. I'm keeping mine.
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G using XDA App at 3:36am. Sorry for the miss spelled word
I plan on keeping mine, after I get a good unit lol
I am keeping mine too. I love my rooted EVO specially using the tether app
I'm probably gonna replace mine.
Screen separation and a stuck pixel.
Return? Never unless the 30fps issues arent resolved.
I'm loving it. I'm unrooted and still love it. I don't plan on rooting until theirs a much easier, less involved rooting method. Also depends on when FroYo is expected to come out. I'm patient.
being rooted im sure every issue that is out is going to be resolved with the devs we have at xda minus the screen seperation which im not one of the unlucky ones.. im loving this phone, before having this phone the one thing i wasnt too fond of was the size of this badboy after actually playing with it now the size is one of my favorite things about it.. never thought id be one to have such a huge phone but when im messing with my wife hero im like "no way, too small for me" to think i used to think she had a big phone.. funny how things change, but im hanging on to this and am actually getting my wife one as well... luvinit
I love my EVO but I am a little salty that we got 440MB of internal memory and the droid X has 8 GBs. There's no way I am paying Verizon's prices.
I am keeping my EVO 4G being that the only competition is the DroidX and well...I get verizon's network without Verizon's prices on my EVO.

hot damn 8gb?! WOW
im not returning mine, im happy with it, no screen separation issues, no light leaks, the dev's here rock and after this conference in a few weeks, i shall be devloping more and hopefully giving something back to this wonderful community.

I still don't get how HTC thinks supplying such paltry amounts in a flagship product paired with 2.1 is a wonderful fit. They also supplied the EVO with a 16-bit screen so cost criteria is always at play..
I wonder how HTC-OEMs will step up their game now that the iPhone 4 is out but I think just bringing 2.2 will help a lot in the interim.
No way! This phone has been amazing so far, no issues whatsoever
I'm actually thinking about returning mine for the X. The big choice was between sprint and vzw and vzw only seems about $10 more per month for a much nicer phone.
"Their" not "There"
sorry had to fix that.
and no i'm not returning my evo, I would if sprint was coming out with a better phone but since the droidx isn't sprint no thanks.
I'm keeping my evo, because something new and faster always comes along, except with sprint, I can upgrade every year vs every 2 with verizon. Have fun with your droid x when I have my evo 2 in hand next year
I'm considering it. Both the Droid X and the Epic 4g are looking better in some areas that matter to me. The big thing that may keep me with the Evo is the user community that HTC has. I understand that the Motorola and Samsung dev group is growing but it is nowhere near as big as XDA. And since I like tweaking and improving stuff, that's important to me.
edit: Oh, and please edit the title. The "there" instead of "their" is driving me crazy. If this was an international phone, I would excuse it, but it's not. We're all Americans here and we all should know the difference between those two words.
I love the EVO!! I do have the screen seperation issue, but on a list for a new one at the shack that they say I should have this weekend. Other then that I couldnt see my self using anything else!!!

actually, I'm told that verizon is 12 month upgrades on plans over $45/month? something like that? Can anyone verify?

posting this again since no one has seen it evidently, but:
I called VZW and on any voice plan $59 or more/month, you get 12 month phone upgrades. So this is no longer a selling point in sprint's favor (there are others anyway, but this was the big one for me).
I'm almost 100% sure I'm taking my evo back this weekend.
I'm keeping mine. It's been working great!

Will asurion or Verizon replace my Dinc for free?

Ok so my power button is starting to fail. It works most of the time but its starting to become annoying when it doesn't and also my phone has a significant amount of backlight bleeding. I really don't want to have to pay to replace it so should I contact asurion or should I go to the Verizon store?

I'm pretty sure VZW won't give one up for free cause you're not under warranty with them most likely (30 days I believe?) and I don't even think they have them anymore. And Asurion charges a deductible for a replacement
Sent from my Droid Incredible running a random CM7 nightly.
Manufacturer's warranty is one year.
If you're within that period, and they can replicate the issue, then they'll probably order you a replacement.
Thanks for the reply. So do I contact Verizon or Asurion?

Contact Verizon if you're within the one year manufacturer's warranty. If you have insurance (asurion), I believe its something like $90-$100 for a replacement, but it covers everything (loss, damage, theft, etc). Also, it seems like most people that are getting replacements from asurion are getting incredible 2s, I'm not sure about Verizon's warranty replacements, maybe someone that's gotten one recently could weigh in?

I'm within the one year manufacturer's warranty so ill be contacting Verizon tomorrow.
I'm curious as to what the replacement phone will be, I read somewhere that Verizon was out of Incredibles.

Just called Verizon and they're replacing my phone. The replacement device is the Incredible I was hoping to get the Incredible 2 but I guess not
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Verizon must have a decent amount of certified like new incredibles still. I'll have to keep that in mind; asurion - most likely sending inc2, Verizon - still sending out inc1.
They also asked if I wanted to upgrade early but I don't want to upgrade just yet.

Probably best to wait a month or two, there should be some nice things out by then
I.E - Samsung galaxy s2 and Motorola bionic. The moto might be cool if it can be rooted and gets good dev support, although I still think the gs2 is sexier and better specced. Also the HTC vigor, which will hopefully be out before too long, sounds like a beast of a phone.
Just a few things to remember when dealing with Big Red and/ or Asurion:
-Have you done anything to your phone that "voids" your warranty? i.e. root
-If you have't voided your warranty, then use it. Also remember if you can't get what you need taken care of on your first call try, try and try again. Many "Verizon" call centers are generic call centers are subcontracted and can only do or approve anything.
- If you have "voided" your warranty by rooting or something else just remember most "warranty's" cover defect, damage, LOST or stolen. If damaged or defect you usually have to send the damaged phone back to them where they then test to make sure the warranty hasn't been voided. If "stolen" you'll need a police report filed and copy sent in (from experience).
That's just my two cents from previous experience.
I am rooted but ill just go back to stock before I send it back.

I'm hoping a Nexus phone with an LTE radio comes to Verizon by the time I can upgrade (October) but I'm not holding my breath. The HTC Vigor sounds interesting if the rumored specs hold up.

Warranty?

I know that if you root it'll void your warranty, and today I dropped my phone and the faceplate shifted to the left, does anyone know if I can take it to Costco even on S-Off to get it replaced, or anyone know how to shift it back?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using XDA Premium App
I seriously doubt the folks running the phone booth at Costco even know how to tell if a phone is S-OFF or not (or get paid enough to care). Flash back to stock and go return it.
If you just flash back to stock then they will never know.
Rooting won't take away your warranty. Verizon doesn't check to see if you rooted (if you exchange over the phone). Severe physical damage is the only thing that will take away your warranty. Good luck getting a replacement that works though. Extremely poor quality control in the refurbished phones. Dust, scratches, blown speakers, etc. I swear verizon just ships the defective ones right back out.

you must elaborate further otherwise we are only to see that you are contradicting your statement. As I do agree you can get good refurbs. The part when you say "I've had numerous replacements. Never have had any problems with Verizon or Asurion." If you've had numerous replacements, then the refurbs can't be all so great, UNLESS of coarse you are talking about a number of different phone in which you had to get refurbs for.
Alright thanks for your help, I'll be flashing stock on this and hoping I'll get a Froyo

I see what you're saying. My first Incredible 1 we took back to Verizon because Costco was cheaper. Then I got one from Costco brand new that after 5 or so months had some software glitch that Verizon sent me a replacement for. That one was refurbished. That one worked better than all of my other phones I had. Then I dropped it and shattered the screen to smitherines. My new Incredible 2 is the refurbished replacement for that broken one. So, like I said, I haven't had any quality control issues from either company. Maybe I'm just lucky but I'm a happy camper.

Sometimes I Really Hate Samsung

Usually not, but damn. Last week my original GNex had it's radio's take a dump. After 11 solid months, I rebooted one night and had data, but voice never came back. So I put everything back stock and walked into Verizon and paid $15 to have a replacement overnighted to me.
Now, a week later, I've come to the conclusion that my replacement is fubared. I've never seen a device experience sleep of death + turning into an oven so quickly and consistently before. It's good for 30, maybe 60 minutes tops before it craps out. This is awesome when your phone is your alarm clock.
So here I go again, getting ready to waltz back into the Verizon store and do the same song and dance again. Pay $15, get a phone on Tuesday, probably have something massively wrong, rinse and repeat. Hey, devices take a crap from time to time, and luckily mine did while still under warranty, but I'm taking picks on how many replacement units I have to go through before one finally sticks.
My guess is the 3rd replacement is a charm. Who wants the over?
Those of you who have gone through the replacement fiasco with Samsung, how many tries did it take you to get a good one?
Why do you pay when you have still warranty?

Shipping to have it overnighted. It's also awesome that my local store doesn't toss out loaner phones while you wait (It'd make it easy to avoid that whole shipping thing). Maybe I'll call Verizon Tech Support just to bug them about.
no issues at all with mine...
I love Samsung personally
OOOh, free overnight shipping. Thanks Big Red!
Hopefully the next one is a charm because honestly, I don't know what I'd do without a Nexus device on Verizon's network. The alternatives make me cringe.
why is there no option for none
Read the last line of the OP.
I'm just curious to know if getting bum replacements is a "normal" thing because for a phone that went through a "100 point inspection", well, they dropped the ball on this one.

Getting my third in the mail tomorrow Last one had ridiculous sensitivity issues, we'll see what the next one brings.
And why don't you just call em up instead of going in to the store? I keep my phone and they send me a refurb in the mail. The first phone was USPS, but after that one was crap they began overnighting it via FedEx.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
I went through 4 before I got my refurb, then I promptly sold it for a GSM model. That's one thing that I have to hand it to Verizon for, they were really good once I got the 1st defective one. I had 4 at one time, most overnighted at no cost and no fees or holds.
They did try everything they could to not send me one though... Unlike Google who were more then happy to send me multiple N7's.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
I had to replace one because of dirt under the screen even though its new and heat issues, the replacement was perfect and never get hot under normal use. I also bought one recently and it has heat issue and poor screen as well, but I'll live with it for the price. Its sort of a luck thing with this device, especially a lottery with AMOLED screen. I was going to get the N4 but it seem to also have lots of little issues on its own, such as getting too hot, I really hate phones getting overheat.I'm still waiting on confirmation on the USB OTG too.
After reading this it makes me think I need to bug Asurion tomorrow, I had to get an insurance replacement so I have to go through them for warranty now, they are definitely more strict on some things but like 3 minutes of complaining about signal got me a new one once already. The current one gets EXTREMELY hot under even normal use, so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold and definitely would be uncomfortable up against your face.

The first time I went in, I was hoping that they'd have one in the back they could swap out for me, or a loaner phone (fat chance, I know). My job pretty much requires a working cell phone. I'm kind of surprised that Verizon was so willing to send a replacement out in just a few minutes. Granted, I don't know what alternative they'd have. There's no real way to troubleshoot SOD issues. My main concern is just not having to go through a massive fiasco running through multiple devices, especially with an 8 day vacation coming up.

Well, if it's still under warranty, I'd jump on it.
Let's see... My first nexus has a seriously bad screen. I shipped it out the same day I got it. Got my replacement (#2) and the screen was worse than the first one. So I sent that bad and got another one (#3). This one had the same issue as OP. Radios wouldn't work....no voice or data and the phone got really hot. Enough to where I couldn't hold it to my face. So I sent that one in and they sent me a Samsung Stratosphere (#4 replacement). Sent that in and got the nexus I currently have making 5 replacements (4 with nexuses). I also went through Verizon...
Good luck
I had to replace one about ~8 months ago for screen ghosting. I was really satisfied with the replacement until now because the ghosting is back on the replacement. I'm contemplating switching to T-Mobile though, so I dunno if I'm going to attempt to replace this one.

Well that sucks. My screens have been great. Well, that, or I'm not picky. The second replacement seems rock solid so far. Good data speeds, strong signal, solid screen, solid GPS and no SOD/Overheating. Maybe I've lucked out...but I'm not uncrossing my fingers.

Inc 2 Drowned - Need parts?

Yo. Seems like a goodbye thread? Not exactly. (but still kind of)
I recently went on vacation and drowned my Incredible 2 in the pool. That was 4 days ago so I think I'm past the point of hoping it will come back to life. Besides that I payed up a Verizon ETF and switched to T-Mobile's $30 unlimited data plan with a Samsung Galaxy S4.
I'm switching a little bit earlier than I thought because of this but this has been my plan for a while - timeline just got sped up. Anyway the whole point of this thread is
Does anyone want the phone for parts?
I'd be happy to send it on to anyone who might be able to use it. Remember it's a water-damaged phone, but maybe there's a chance for repair or parts.
These phones are almost indestructible. Glad I found out pools can kill it. Congrats on getting the s4.
Sent from my ADR6350 using xda app-developers app
I'd take it for the usb part but don't know if it'll work because of the water damage, have an old inc2 that has a loose usb port and doesn't charge, and my sister wanted it.
