[Q] Screen Broken - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi last night i began re-housing my xperia play, i re-housed it then put it back togther and the screen dosent work , im not sure why but i made sure all the connectors were back in place properly...... im wondering is the screen broken and should i buy a new one off ebay???

Can you still hear the device? Like, pressing the volume rocker until it beeps.
I'd suggest another disassemble, check the video connector, pins and give it a good clean. Then put it back together again. Make sure you've connected EVERYTHING!
Sent from my Xperia Play using xda premium

i cant hear it cause i cant unlock it with seeing the numbers, but when i turn it on i feel the vibration and the screen does things when the animations are suppost to be there, ill pull it back apart tommrow and check
EDIT- i took it apart and cleaned it all , and it still didnt work so i looked carefully at the screen and theres a small crack which i suspect is the cause of it so im gonna buy a new screen off ebay

Damaged O2 XDA IIs in UK - advice ?

I got caught in that major downpour on saturday and my BA and Globalsat BT-338 GPS unit got soaked.
I dried them off in the car and tried the BA. It powered on, and on the blue imate screen (I flashed it with a PDA2K image) I saw a very brief bit of corruption on the screen. It got into windows then rebooted.
I got it home, dried some more, tried again. Dead as a doornail.
Put it in the cradle, the red "break call" button was dimly flashing. Not an even flash, a bzzt bzzt "I am shorting" kind of flash.
I immediately pulled it out of the cradle and left it to dry more overnight.
Today I tried it out of the cradle, still dead. Gingerly put it in cradle, the top right light went red (low battery I think this means) but no flashing break light so I left it and it went orange (indicating normal charging) after a while. I powered it on and it works. I still get the same brief bit of corruption just after the serial / rom ID screen on bootup.
It would not sync howver. I tried my lil-sync travel sync lead and that synced. I then had the idea of pulling the power plug out of the back of the cradle and letting it reset. It now syncs in the cradle.
All seemed good I thought. But I soon realised that the power button doesn't work. I cannot turn off the screen. If I hold the button down it toggles the backlight, so the button itself isn't broken, but I don't know what is...
I suppose I will have to call O2 and they will tell me to send it to a repair centre, but that will probably a) take ages and b) possibly cost loads.
I was thinking of taking it to a repair shop but I doubted they would know how to fix a BA. Also they may try to rip me off.
Any suggestions ?
Also if you know the best way of going about getting my globalsat BT-338 GPS repaired also that would be great. When I plug it in to charge the orange charging light flashes briefly but then nothing.
worst come to worst, install something like handymenu and make a quick action link for turn off, then assign that quicklink to one of the buttons to turn it off.
not sure that will work to turn it on though - unless you've worked out another way to do that?
When something gets wer, always take the battery straight out and thouroughly dry the inside with a hairdryer before trying to turn it on again. Probably not much help to you now though
I bet 02 will fix it for about £50.
I don't have a hair dryer - you need hair to make it worth having one and I haven't had any hair in years !
I will give O2 a call and see what they say.
I have a XDA2s for parts
Hallo
If you are interested i have O2 xda2s with brocen screen for parts exchange feel fre to contact me
07746555729
Take it to O2 just tell them it doesnt work and you dont know whats happened to it... play it dumb... always works for me. they replaced my entire screen with a brand new one for nothing and it only took under a week. It was so obviouse i had dropped it since ther was a clear dent at the top of the BA. only thing is that if they want to charge you for repair and you decide not to go ahead they will charge you to post it back to you.

exactly what i did uplift
posted it in today, fingers crossed...
I think I am defo gonna get insurance if I get it working again, too much worry...
well I sent it in to the official repairers (Anovo) and they sent it back "Fixed under warranty"
Except that it was NOT fixed, it was displaying the exact same fault, which is SO easy to replicate, how the hell can they call it "Fixed" ???
So I call up O2 cust serv and tell them. They asked me to fax in receipt from repairers which I did and they said they would be sending me a brand new handset
Woohoo !
Well i was happy with o2 till i noticed a ****ING crack on the bottom left hand side of the screen. so i went back a week later cos i was working and didnt have time.
Told them that it was sent back to me like that and they basicaly said piss off.... said they couldnt do anything about it that i could have broken it anytime myself... fair enough. So now i have an xda with a cracked screen and anywhere down in the left corner i have to touch about 6mm to the left of
any button to press on it.
So pressing the New button is impossible.
I cant belive how they didnt even question about how the screen stopped working the first time, so why the hell cant they replace it again!?
Im proper pissed off
Anyone know anybody that has a dead xda with a working screen id gladly pay good money for it!
annoying, but I would imagine the screen is quite easily replaceable.
It's gonna cost, but better than being left with a paperweight...
You guys are not gonna believe this...
So O2 send the new handset.
When I got it I decided to use my old battery until the new one had charged.
Guess what... same problem !!
IT WASNT THE PHONE IT WAS THE BATTERY !!!
So, if your XDA fails to go into standby mode when you hit the power button - don't suspect the phone, suspect the battery !

if u do, make sure u dont get it wet, cos o22 insurance wont cover water damage.
I can't use O2 insurance anyway, you can only insure with 02 within something like 14 days of purchase.
Got same crack but in the right-hand bottom...
I am using my device in landscape mode while waiting for a reasonably priced spare part donor. Rotating the screen usually helps.

[Q] temparamental booting

Hey guys i need some help please.
I opened my phone up a few weeks ago to blow out some dust that got in behind the screen. But when I put it all back together again. The phone wouldn't boot, but somehow i got it going again. But since then, whilst using the phone the screen will randomly stop responding and then the phone itself will just crash,
Now, when I go to reboot (I have to take battery out and back in) HTC spalshscreen comes on then the screen just slowly goes off within 15 secs (my splash screen is usually on for about 20 secs and the miui splash comes on straight after when working).
I have to keep rebooting until the phone comes on and then it would work fine for 1-2 days before it plays up again.
If trawled through similar problem but still can find an answer. Please help me out guys, I need to get my phone working again as I can't afford a new one as good as this.
If it helps I have been running on miui xj for about 8 months
Many thanks in advance
Hi i read the other day in the desire s threads and when u took the lcd screen off the digitizer (front of the phone) did u damage the tape glue around the edge that holds them both together? Because if u damage it even the slightest bit it and theres the tiniest gap, it will cause the screen to not work properly and give faulse/positive touchs and the phone to not work correct. Maybe this is not ur problem but i thought id say.

Well you theory does make sense, I didn't actually take the digitizer out but I did notice looking through the screen that theres a little gap there thats allowing all the dust to get in there. I have reinstalled ROMs a couple of times now but its still hit and miss. So you could be very right as I don't know what else the problem can be.
Thanks for the response cos I never would have thought of that. I'm gonna strip it properly now and hope to fix it :good:
Nope im still having problems. I reinstall the the rom and itll be ok for a few weeks maybe then itll go on the blink again.
Im starting to wonder if there an issue with the software somewhere. But ive been using this rom for ages and not had a problem with it untill now

I think I destroyed my HTC One X

Hey guys,
I think I destroyed my HTC One X. I just bought it a month ago from Ebay, and it worked flawless. At some point the display just turn off. I restarted the phone, heard the sound when it starts and even the softkeys worked. But the Display was still off. After after a few restarts the display turned on for a minute, just to freeze after that and turned off again. The phone was still on though.
However I've read a bit around and found out that it could be a cpu heat problem, which could be true because my phone was way too warm sometimes. So I removed the display and put a tiny little bit thermal compound on the cpu. Somehow I managed to rip off the connection cable to the display ... also I managed to rip off the little black cable near the soft keys. The soft keys still work though.
When I start the phone the starting sound comes, the softkeys blink when I restart the phone, you hear the volume buttons etc. So it seems the phone is fully working. Just the display or touchscreen is damaged.
Some pictures:

So, what can I do?
Do you think I could just send it to this site http://www.directfix.com/product/REP-0063.html and let them repair it? Or did I destroyed my phone too much already?
Thanks in advance.
Well, the top cable is ripped off,you can't do anything at this point. The bottom one just seems out of slot as far as i can tell from the pics.
Basicaly you can send it to the repair shop, but i don't think that you can only change the cables, don't really know what to say...Could cost you some to repair it.
I don't want to only change the cables. I want to use this full repair service:
"HTC One X Complete Screen Replacement Service (Includes LCD & Digitizer)".
So they change the cables and put on a new LCD & Digitizer as far I understand.
But do you guys think they will put back the other cable back in slot too?
Please just answer, do you guys think they can repair it if they put on a new screen & digitalizer?
I don't see why not,you can also contact them and explain them the situation. Those cables are quite easy to put back with the proper tools so you don't have to worry about it.

Which replacement screen (Sharp, sony acer)

Hi,
The Sony and Sharp are not compatible with each other( I've tried to replace one with the other), I've never come across the Acer LCD in Australia so I'm not sure. If you don't know how to tell the Sharp and Sony apart, the Sharp has Green backing on the flex cable, while the Sony is sort of orange with a few yellowish stripeson the back of the LCD flex cable. Sorry I couldn't find any of my photos which show the difference. I would recommend buying the LCD/digitizer combo and a separate midframe to mount it on, as it comes with new 3M adhesive, but you may also have to add a few TINY drops of instant adhesive, I say tiny as too much will press out under the digitizer and will show up, but I have found that without it the digitizer will lift from the frame eventually due to the tight fit of the frame in the rear shell of the HOX.
Hope you go ok!

Sorry, just a bit of additional info, have also come across posts saying the colours of the LCD look washed out with the wrong LCD.

That's the only downside - having to pull phone apart to check which one you have. Also another tip, phone need to be on to change LCD's, boot phone up with it apart, then wake up with power button on old screen, then sleep with power button, change screens then wake up again. There are plenty of vids on youtube to help, if new screen doesn't activate, check flex cable is in square and all the way - have had this problem before also.

I replaced my screen, but I powered down when removing the screen, and putting the replacement in. Now neither will light up. How do you solve this?
There are no guarantees with this, but try pulling the battery out for a minute or two. then with the original screen in, boot up and let it get to the lock screen wait for the screen to sleep then press power button to wake up then again to sleep. when the screen is sleeping try changing over the screens and then press power button to wake again. this is assuming that the screen displays on startup, but even if it doesn't try this process anyway. if it doesn't work, try doing with the new screen back to the old screen after pulling the battery. I have only ever come across this once, but it wasn't from powering down during a screen change, but pulling the battery seemed to fix it.

I tried that, didn't work. I think I know the problem now. after searching on multiple forums, I think it's the 220 coil. A lot of people have had a similar issue, and they say they've solved it by replacing the coil. What I want to know is, how I managed to short the coil in the span of a few minutes, despite having used the same screen as the cracked one.
It is possible to do, although they can go for no reason, I recommend taking it somewhere to get coil replaced, it is a very fiddly job and you need to have a steady hand and the right tools (hot air gun) although my father managed to do one with a standard soldering iron, although it wasn't the best job. you risk damaging other components also if they blow off the mainboard (if you can find them), worst case scenario is the display ic has gone - that one will have to be done by a professional.
what a sh!t phone
we tried to repare it 2 years ago.
but failed.
so i just the pieces to gether wanted to see if i can fix it.
still not lcd just touchscreen (and now im not sure if i even have touchscreen lol maybe i broke that to now not sure
anyway sucks i have a brand new lcd touchscreen with frame we bought back then. and its even the right screen a green flex cable like the original one and still noting so i guess i broke the 220 chip thing how dont know. but not sure if i can replace it sucks it was a good phone
is there any help a easy fix? or do i really need to soldern that chip i cant sell the phone since there is personal data on it contacts and pictures (i guess dont remembrer)
It may still be replaceable, if it's been sitting for 2 headed is the phone taking a charge? It needs to be on to change the screen. If it is charging and booting up, and the screen still won't work when being changed try doing a hard reset by holding the power and volume down button until it restarts - have had advice by someone who repairs phones for a living that this should reset what the phone is looking at for hardware and you should be able to do screen replacement. Failing that chances are it's going to be dead. Not much point in selling it these days as they aren't worth much these days. If the phone won't start the battery may be dead flat. The phone needs some voltage to run its charging firmware, you can try to get it charging by leaving on charge for 10 min or more, even if no charge light, then hold power/vol up/vol down at the same time to recalibrate the charge circuit, it may start to charge after this.
Let me know how it goes, I wouldn't spend too much time on it, unless it's now a project..

ow volum down? okay will try that. but i think i killed it lol cause the charging light wont come on anymore lol
it was just a idea that poped up in my head, that maybe i can save it so i friend can use it but i think i will just trow it away lol or something will give it a shot and see. will report back
nvm it's dead it wont even boot lol. i think i burned sometime lol that little cable that onder the battery thats conects the botem part with the other fliped out 2 time and 3time it smeled burned lol nvm
Sounds like it may have shorted, a replacement is fairly cheap , just depends on how serious you are about spending money on it.
I forgot to mention that when calibrating charge circuit with power/vol up/vol down all held down at the same time, they need to be held down for at least 2 minutes.

Probably the best result, it's probably cheaper to to buy a second hand one and also cause less aggravation when you can't work out why it won't work. You could always sell the replacement screen.

dont think i will sell it i mean who would buy it? lol but guess i could try for like 20euro or 10 lol.
and have 2 batteries for 10 or 5 euro lol
have 3 backcovers also 2 white and 1 black.
we bought every thing to repaire it but yeah.
could maybe sell some **** but pff dont knopw. (its my oncles old phone will ask him (maybe sell every thing exept de motherboard)
That's what I'd do, try and sell it for parts minus the mainboard. If that doesn't work, put it away somewhere and if you come across a dead one cheap, swap the mainboards out (providing it has the same screen - that's a given). Good luck with whatever you decide to do. :good:

My Xperia play screen always won't turn on...

I bought one just for fun to play it and test it out. Now obviously I didn't spend like $300 on a new one since it won't be my main phone so I got a "refurbished" one. Some marks on it I can live with no problem but I have one problem besides that maybe someone can help me with before I send it back. I turn the screen off and I can turn it back on again SOMETIMES but if I turn it off again it won't turn back on and I gotta take the battery out. The phone is on but the screen just won't turn on? Just to see what I am talking about. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzYFCidtYsg
so should I send it back? YEs I have done it without the charger in
