Exchange calendar behavior - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Noticed that with every single ICS rom i tried, whenever i get a meeting request in an Exchange account and i choose "view in calendar" it goes to the right day but never shows the actual timeslots blacked out or marked in any way......
Is it the same with everyone?

With the stock ROM this is working for me. When the meeting is accepted do you see it in your calender correctly?

Under "Calendar/Calendars to be displayed" is the exchange account checked?

The inability to process and/or respond to non-Google meeting invites (Internet Calendar Sharing, or ICS, aka RFC 2445) is a long standing problem which Google seems to ignore.
Please "star" all the issues on this list. Some are 2-3 years old with hundreds of stars, yet no fix in Android.

ANSWERED - Facbook Contacts cannot sync.

Firstly, I'm running the rooted stock rom (OTA 1.45..). I don't know if this has been a problem SINCE I've rooted, as I don't go on facebook much, but, one of my friends, I just dded her on facebook the other day, and then noticed that it wouldn't let me link her fb account on her contact card because her fb account wasn't present in my contacts.
Anyways, whenever I try to refresh my facebook contacts, it takkes me back to the "online directories" screen with a message that says CONNECTION ERROR.
I can login to my fb just fine and things like my friendstream and the facebook app itself are ok, but, my contacts will not update at all.
Is there a file I'm supposed to flash, or what? Any help would be appreciated.
This has been discussed here and everywhere else
As of right now, their seems to be a problem with the Facebook servers. You can log into Facebook for HTC Sense fine, but it will show that you have "no friends". When you attempt to refresh, it will just load up and then exit out of the program with the "connection failed" error.

Sorry. I've seen discussions about it, but with so many different RoMs out, I wanted to make sure it was system wide rather than one or two in-particular. Thank you though.
weird, when I try to add facebook for sense to my accounts sync, it says warning the service is curently unavailable. do you want to try again? and never works.

This is the first I've heard of Facebook not working... mine has been working with no problems whatsoever. (and I'm constantly on it, refreshing all of the time) Maybe it's not as widespread as some people think?
Facebook for Android works.
Facebook for Sense is not working.
Two different things that people are getting confused. It has been down since last week. It has nothing to do with ROOT or NONROOTED phones, it has to do with Facebook's connection or server hence the "connection error" that is displayed when you try to refresh your contacts.
I'm going to take a look at logcat when I can but it doesn't seem to be a connection issue (at least with authentication). Deliberately enter the wrong password and you'll see.
An issue with Facebook none the less.

Exactly. You can log in successfully, but when it comes to getting your contacts between Facebook servers and your phone, it isn't working. Somewhere there is a disruption between the 2. Androidforums.com has been on this for a while and even the HTC.com forums have had people talking about it.
From what someone mentioned, this happened to the iPhone a few weeks ago and was successfully fixed ASAP...
Soooo, basically, we're just waiting for it to fix itself?

Facebook synch issue - possible solution found!!!

Log in to your Facebook profile and go into your Profile settings and enter a location in your workplace. Now try synch'ing your FB contacts on your HTC.
Worked for me and hearing reports of it working for others also.
Sorry dude, but I don't see anything that says "workplace" in my profile, are you refering to employer?
just tried this.
worked a treat for allowing the friendstream to show fbook updates.
still no synch with phonebook though

I'd already set my employer in once before, but i deleted it earlier and re-entered it and my contacts suddenly started synch'ing again.

I did, as I had removed the account when it went wrong. still no phonebook synch.
I noticed when I flashed a new ROM that some facebook contacts were just missing when trying to link phone contacts to them. Others were there fine. I've since noticed that after a couple of days, some of those facebook contacts have appeared and I've successfully linked them to phone contacts. Others still aren't present. I'm presuming it's something at FB's end...
Just got this back from HTC Support..better late than never
We have been working with Facebook to determine a fix for your facebook problems. In the mean time, we have found that some customers have success when editing their work profiles on their Facebook page. If you have added a company and have checked the box next to “I currently work here,” simply add the City / Town of your office. This will allow for HTC Sense to communicate with Facebook without failing. I don’t want to reveal so much detail on my profile, is there another way? You can also delete the work information, and add it back after we have made the appropriate changes to solve this issue. What happened? There seems to have been a miscommunication between Facebook servers and your phone and that caused an inability to sync updates. Here’s the troubleshooting: Step Failure Action 1. User phone is connected to the internet. Connect phone to Wi-Fi or 3g internet 2. User has valid Facebook account Sign up for Facebook 3. User has Facebook work information. Make sure Work information has city / location, or remove Current work information. This should solve your problem.

Facebook doesnt stay logged in?

Forgive me in advance, I am asking this question on behalf of my gf that has an Epic.
Every couple hours she gets a prompt to login to facebook which is becomming very annoying. I have an Evo and have never had this issue but I also use the official facebook app, it appears that the epic has its own facebook app which appears to be the one causing us troubles. Does anyone else have this issue with facebook or am I doing something wrong? It would seem there is a way to stay logged in because if you are constantly signing in it kinda defeats the purpose of widgets.

This isn't going to answer your question but I'm just letting you know I get the same issue. I just either leave it or clear the notification up. Wouldn't mind finding a solution to this as well. Good luck!
I was afraid of that, so its either deal with the constant logins to get everything synced properly in your contacts, messages, etc., or go with something like Pure Messanger Widget and stock facebook app?
yep same issue here, ive learned though it does it only when i check my facebook on the epic
if I leave it alone it doesnt log out
There is a similar post in the General forum, but I had the same issues.
When I experienced the same issues, I was still on the stock version of Facebook.apk. The SNS account kept prompting for me to log in again, with each sync interval.
I tried removing and adding the account again and rebooting in between, yet still the same problem. I finally had upgrade Facebook to the latest update that was the cause of all these login issues for older versions.
The upgrade fixed the problem, but I did find an issue when you use the built-in Facebook contact sync alone it may not carry profile pictures over to SMS. I had to manually add the account, this ended up putting two Facebook sync processes on my phone. The first is for Facebook to actually let you login to the app (just has sync contacts), and the second is the process that will sync both contacts and calendar events again. (the original sync we're used to)
Reference thread
EDIT: I just got the same SNS login prompt again.
I've never had any login problems on the facebook app, but I also don't use the feeds and updates widget.

This only seems to be happening to me more often recently. I swear it's asking me to log in to Facebook & Twitter every hour or so now. When I go to Accounts & Sync I see that there are two accounts (even though I only have one account for each). One Twitter & one Facebook account say there was an error with the syncing process.
I unchecked the sync processes that were having errors. I'll let you know if I keep being asked to log in.
I have this problem too. It says my sync is experiencing errors and its cause it logged me out of Facebook. Once I log back in its fine.

I used to have this issue, but I figured out a simple workaround.
I use the FACEBOOK APP to sync and not the adding a Facebook account under the account section in settings. After I deleted the Facebook account there and made a sync with the Facebook App, the annoying prompt went away and hasn't come back since.

After doing this, I bet you don't have your friends profile pictures in the stock SMS application anymore. You also wouldn't have Facebook events in your stock Calendar application.
I have the same problem. Funny thing is my widget works fine gets updates and I can upload a picture from within the widget. If I take a picture, or select one from the gallery, then click Share facebook, it will not upload. started one day last week.
On stock rooted and don't get it hourly or even 2x/day that I can remember, just every morning...sometimes it doesn't make it the first time, usually it re-connects, good til the next morning....
I had the same problem. I had to delete the stock sync and use the FB app's sync option but like mentioned above you lose the profile pics on the stock sms so I downloaded "go sms" and the pictures are back...it beats having to log in every hour for sure.

I would say it's a Facebook issue. It stopped working properly after the recent Facebook update. It affected all versions of the application, including the Epic's stock version of Facebook.
I do actually. But, no calendar sync.
Sent from the Epic that bites.
I can say that my gf and my brother both have the same issue, only reason i can think Samsung isn't attempting a quick fix is the rumored 2.2 update for the 21st of this month, which will probably have an updated app that fixes the problem. Although as important as facebook is to people I am surprised there is no maintenance release that fixes this,
Same issues here. I was thinking it might have had something to do with networking issues - I usually leave wifi and 4g on all the time. I noticed that I usually get the prompts when I leave home in the morning (go out of range of my house's wifi) and when 4g disconnects and reconnects in spotty 4g areas. I was wondering if maybe the session expires when you switch networks. Same thing would happen on my laptop when I would bring it from home to work or a coffee shop. FB might recognize that the connection is different. Meh, just a theory I thought I'd throw out there.

[Q] Email app - Retrieving account information

Hi All,
Recently I update my Galaxy Note-II s Stock ROM to Android 4.3.
After update, I configured my E-Mail App with Microsoft's Outlook email in Exchange Push Mode.
Now I am not able to send any mail. Whenever I click Send button I get a notification "Retrieving account information" but nothing happens.
But I am able to retrieve mails.
Anyone facing same issue got resolved, please help.

Hello,
the same problem here with an GT-I9505 (Samsung Galaxy S4).
Are there any solutions right now?
I don't want to downgrade it with the posted workaround because I want to use the phone as all others in the world. Buy it, install it, use it. Sometimes upgrade it and nothing more.
Particularly I don't want to hack anything on that phone because we have much phones in our company so we do not have time to fix those bugs manually.

Hello. I have also encountered this issue with my Outlook.com email account following the 4.3 update. I can confirm that Sandesh's solution with replying to an invitation has solved the problem for me. Thanks!
What I went through to solve this.
I have the same device on the same network and this worked for me. You must have someone send you the appointment on the affected exchange account. In other-words, if you have a corporate account have someone else at that company send you the appointment, accept it and you should be off and running.
I had a running ticket open with Samsung and we tried all sorts of things.
For example.
We restarted the phone
Performed a soft reboot, that is just pull the battery while the phone is on.

It works! I was so sick of using Android email v4.3. It was POS and often stuck my outgoing msgs in the outbox for days without me knowing. And it often was super delayed in pushing incoming msgs. Then it does not allow you to auto bcc to yourself by default. POS POS POS.
Heck, you can call Samsung and tell them to send you an appointment if you don't have access to a corporate account. It also works if I forward the message to my other screwed-up accounts. I think I'll keep those emails / appointments and reuse them for future problems.:good:

I had someone send me an appointment from outside of my messaging system and after I Accepted that appointment I was able to create new messages and Send them. I no longer get the popup message of "Retrieving account information" on messages trying to be sent.
Sure is a big bug for Samsung.
Old thread but still a problem... had it with Android 5.0.1 on my S4 and with an S6 port on the S4. Sending an appointment did not help (anymore).
I had really trouble finding the problem...: I use a Kerio Connect Server for my mails, contacts and calendar. It works as a Exchange Server and syncs via Active sync /exchange protocol. But in the protocol version 14.0. I had to force the server to use the active sync protocol 12.1. Then it was possible to answer the appointment. And everything works... Before the mobile and/or server copied the event in the local calendar, but deleted the email and did not send it...
Hopefully nobody else has this issue, otherwise here is the fix:

Ads in the Samsung Calendar?!

I just had a calendar notification pop up that said "iPhoneX is Here!"
I clicked on it and it opened my calendar and sure enough there's this entry that I never made, and it repeats daily for the next 5 days.
I'm guessing this is a third party app and not Samsung. But I've checked permissions and none of my 3rd party apps have calendar permissions.
The only thing different that I installed from my previous phone is Blurams app for a security camera we purchased and Network Signal Info app.
Anyone know of anyway to figure out which app is pushing notifications to my calendar?
Gmail sometimes automatically adds things to your calendar from emails that you receive if they include a meeting invitation attachment. Check for a matching email in your gmail inbox/trash/spam

The stock Samsung Calendar app.
I would flip if I had iphone advertising on my Samsung phone, seriously, but I don't see any advertising on mine, maybe because I went over all the menus and disabled all advertising, tracking etc. . Those are usually in privacy settings, or similar. If that doesn't work try to guess which programs could be doing this and limit all the permissions for them. Also you could create some throw away gmail account to register the phone, that nobody knows and you rarely get any emails.
That's not advertising from the app. Common sense would tell you that Samsung would not advertise for an iPhone.
There is a way that people can add events to your calendar without your permission simply by knowing your email address.
It is indeed coming from your Google account.
To prevent this you need to turn off the ability to accept events without confirmation or permission.
Here is a good resource.

Yes. But what calendar it link too? Did you connect to google calendar and the message is come from google calendar?
This sounds like a spam calendar event. I just had the same issue, but mine were all in Russian. If it is, where it comes from is if someone adds your email as an invitee, it will add to your calendar even without getting the email or replying. The setting that allows this has to be fixed on a PC web version of Google calendar.
Here is how to do that, but it doesn't deal with the events already there I think.
https://howtoremove.guide/remove-spam-in-google-calendar/
To mark an event as spam, I can not recall the exact steps, but it was something like in Google calendar on the phone, open the event without clicking any links. Hit the 3 vertical dots in the upper right. One of the options should be "mark as spam" or something like that. Or there might be "more actions" then the mark as spam option.
I can not find the original website where I learned that. But it fixed my problem since it blocked the spammer. There does not appear to be the same functionality in Samsung calendar, so try doing on the website version from a computer.

Sorry if that came off rude I did not intend for it too. It just seemed like the discussion was going on a route that made it seem like it was the Samsung app rather than a Google calendar issue.
Well, truth be told I got one of these two days ago. The same exact one.
There are tons of breaches that have been happening in recent years. You can use https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if your email address was included in a breach. (This does not contain all recent breaches but it has a lot)
I also have noticed a crazy uptick in back to back to back robot scam calls. The other day (same day I got the calendar spam) I was at work and a client of mine and a customer of his all had our phones ring at the same exact time. They were all "Scam likely". While they were different incoming phone numbers it was literally at the same exact time. Things seem to have really kicked up a notch when it comes to spam. At least it seems so.

Yeah I actually checked that site about a week or two ago. Was taking some training on internet sources in criminal investigations, and they showed us that site. My email address has been compromised like 14 times, LOL.
And YES to the robocalls!! I usually just hang up on them without answering. But the other day, as soon as I hit decline, it rang again. I mean IMMEDIATELY. Did it three or four times. That's a new tactic.
It seems like every time they say the cell carriers are cracking down on robocalls, they just increase. I can't even answer my ****ing phone anymore.
Thanks for the link to this thread. Yes I saw this in Samsung calendar this morning too. I have never seen anything like this in Google calendar and I don't have any spam emails that would trigger this.
Ive never seen this on any note phone I've had and dont see it now. Currently using just the stock Sammy calendar.
Ive had a few emails breached over time and that link above that tells you if your email addy has been comprised is a good resource. That said, even with a couple of my email addys breached ive still not seen this...
Just had the same thing. Never saw any spam emails with calendar invites, though. There were 4 events per day over 8 days.
It's a know issue with Gmail. Or "working as intended", really..

It's so weird that it suddenly hit us Note10/+ users. Maybe a coincidence, but still strange. And yup, sounds like a spam email event. Spammers/scammers are useless wastes of air. ?
