Ads in the Samsung Calendar?! - Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ Questions & Answers

I just had a calendar notification pop up that said "iPhoneX is Here!"
I clicked on it and it opened my calendar and sure enough there's this entry that I never made, and it repeats daily for the next 5 days.
I'm guessing this is a third party app and not Samsung. But I've checked permissions and none of my 3rd party apps have calendar permissions.
The only thing different that I installed from my previous phone is Blurams app for a security camera we purchased and Network Signal Info app.
Anyone know of anyway to figure out which app is pushing notifications to my calendar?

Gmail sometimes automatically adds things to your calendar from emails that you receive if they include a meeting invitation attachment. Check for a matching email in your gmail inbox/trash/spam

Good call, but nothing there. Just checked spam and trash.

I just got the exact same message and was wondering that too. I used to have a problem with my iCloud calendar on my iPhone x where people could just put random events on my iCloud calendar and they would appear and now it seems they can do the same thing with a Samsung calendar

Which calendar this message from? My calendar or google calendar?

The stock Samsung Calendar app.

I would flip if I had iphone advertising on my Samsung phone, seriously, but I don't see any advertising on mine, maybe because I went over all the menus and disabled all advertising, tracking etc. . Those are usually in privacy settings, or similar. If that doesn't work try to guess which programs could be doing this and limit all the permissions for them. Also you could create some throw away gmail account to register the phone, that nobody knows and you rarely get any emails.

That's not advertising from the app. Common sense would tell you that Samsung would not advertise for an iPhone.
There is a way that people can add events to your calendar without your permission simply by knowing your email address.
It is indeed coming from your Google account.
To prevent this you need to turn off the ability to accept events without confirmation or permission.
Here is a good resource.

Yes. But what calendar it link too? Did you connect to google calendar and the message is come from google calendar?

This sounds like a spam calendar event. I just had the same issue, but mine were all in Russian. If it is, where it comes from is if someone adds your email as an invitee, it will add to your calendar even without getting the email or replying. The setting that allows this has to be fixed on a PC web version of Google calendar.
Here is how to do that, but it doesn't deal with the events already there I think.
https://howtoremove.guide/remove-spam-in-google-calendar/
To mark an event as spam, I can not recall the exact steps, but it was something like in Google calendar on the phone, open the event without clicking any links. Hit the 3 vertical dots in the upper right. One of the options should be "mark as spam" or something like that. Or there might be "more actions" then the mark as spam option.
I can not find the original website where I learned that. But it fixed my problem since it blocked the spammer. There does not appear to be the same functionality in Samsung calendar, so try doing on the website version from a computer.

Gotcha, sorry. Yes, it shows it came from my Gmail address (Google Calendar), but it's greyed out. And. You can't edit the entry, either. Just delete it.

Thank you for the link, I'll turn that setting off.
My concern now is it isn't just me, it's others here. Somewhere along the line, someone has got a hold of our email addresses.

Sorry if that came off rude I did not intend for it too. It just seemed like the discussion was going on a route that made it seem like it was the Samsung app rather than a Google calendar issue.
Well, truth be told I got one of these two days ago. The same exact one.
There are tons of breaches that have been happening in recent years. You can use https://haveibeenpwned.com/ to see if your email address was included in a breach. (This does not contain all recent breaches but it has a lot)
I also have noticed a crazy uptick in back to back to back robot scam calls. The other day (same day I got the calendar spam) I was at work and a client of mine and a customer of his all had our phones ring at the same exact time. They were all "Scam likely". While they were different incoming phone numbers it was literally at the same exact time. Things seem to have really kicked up a notch when it comes to spam. At least it seems so.

Yeah I actually checked that site about a week or two ago. Was taking some training on internet sources in criminal investigations, and they showed us that site. My email address has been compromised like 14 times, LOL.
And YES to the robocalls!! I usually just hang up on them without answering. But the other day, as soon as I hit decline, it rang again. I mean IMMEDIATELY. Did it three or four times. That's a new tactic.
It seems like every time they say the cell carriers are cracking down on robocalls, they just increase. I can't even answer my ****ing phone anymore.

Thanks for the link to this thread. Yes I saw this in Samsung calendar this morning too. I have never seen anything like this in Google calendar and I don't have any spam emails that would trigger this.

Ive never seen this on any note phone I've had and dont see it now. Currently using just the stock Sammy calendar.
Ive had a few emails breached over time and that link above that tells you if your email addy has been comprised is a good resource. That said, even with a couple of my email addys breached ive still not seen this...

Just had the same thing. Never saw any spam emails with calendar invites, though. There were 4 events per day over 8 days.

It's a know issue with Gmail. Or "working as intended", really..

It's so weird that it suddenly hit us Note10/+ users. Maybe a coincidence, but still strange. And yup, sounds like a spam email event. Spammers/scammers are useless wastes of air. ?

Facebook doesnt stay logged in?

Forgive me in advance, I am asking this question on behalf of my gf that has an Epic.
Every couple hours she gets a prompt to login to facebook which is becomming very annoying. I have an Evo and have never had this issue but I also use the official facebook app, it appears that the epic has its own facebook app which appears to be the one causing us troubles. Does anyone else have this issue with facebook or am I doing something wrong? It would seem there is a way to stay logged in because if you are constantly signing in it kinda defeats the purpose of widgets.

This isn't going to answer your question but I'm just letting you know I get the same issue. I just either leave it or clear the notification up. Wouldn't mind finding a solution to this as well. Good luck!
I was afraid of that, so its either deal with the constant logins to get everything synced properly in your contacts, messages, etc., or go with something like Pure Messanger Widget and stock facebook app?
yep same issue here, ive learned though it does it only when i check my facebook on the epic
if I leave it alone it doesnt log out
There is a similar post in the General forum, but I had the same issues.
When I experienced the same issues, I was still on the stock version of Facebook.apk. The SNS account kept prompting for me to log in again, with each sync interval.
I tried removing and adding the account again and rebooting in between, yet still the same problem. I finally had upgrade Facebook to the latest update that was the cause of all these login issues for older versions.
The upgrade fixed the problem, but I did find an issue when you use the built-in Facebook contact sync alone it may not carry profile pictures over to SMS. I had to manually add the account, this ended up putting two Facebook sync processes on my phone. The first is for Facebook to actually let you login to the app (just has sync contacts), and the second is the process that will sync both contacts and calendar events again. (the original sync we're used to)
Reference thread
EDIT: I just got the same SNS login prompt again.
I've never had any login problems on the facebook app, but I also don't use the feeds and updates widget.

This only seems to be happening to me more often recently. I swear it's asking me to log in to Facebook & Twitter every hour or so now. When I go to Accounts & Sync I see that there are two accounts (even though I only have one account for each). One Twitter & one Facebook account say there was an error with the syncing process.
I unchecked the sync processes that were having errors. I'll let you know if I keep being asked to log in.
I have this problem too. It says my sync is experiencing errors and its cause it logged me out of Facebook. Once I log back in its fine.

I used to have this issue, but I figured out a simple workaround.
I use the FACEBOOK APP to sync and not the adding a Facebook account under the account section in settings. After I deleted the Facebook account there and made a sync with the Facebook App, the annoying prompt went away and hasn't come back since.

After doing this, I bet you don't have your friends profile pictures in the stock SMS application anymore. You also wouldn't have Facebook events in your stock Calendar application.
I have the same problem. Funny thing is my widget works fine gets updates and I can upload a picture from within the widget. If I take a picture, or select one from the gallery, then click Share facebook, it will not upload. started one day last week.
On stock rooted and don't get it hourly or even 2x/day that I can remember, just every morning...sometimes it doesn't make it the first time, usually it re-connects, good til the next morning....
I had the same problem. I had to delete the stock sync and use the FB app's sync option but like mentioned above you lose the profile pics on the stock sms so I downloaded "go sms" and the pictures are back...it beats having to log in every hour for sure.

I would say it's a Facebook issue. It stopped working properly after the recent Facebook update. It affected all versions of the application, including the Epic's stock version of Facebook.
I do actually. But, no calendar sync.
Sent from the Epic that bites.
I can say that my gf and my brother both have the same issue, only reason i can think Samsung isn't attempting a quick fix is the rumored 2.2 update for the 21st of this month, which will probably have an updated app that fixes the problem. Although as important as facebook is to people I am surprised there is no maintenance release that fixes this,
Same issues here. I was thinking it might have had something to do with networking issues - I usually leave wifi and 4g on all the time. I noticed that I usually get the prompts when I leave home in the morning (go out of range of my house's wifi) and when 4g disconnects and reconnects in spotty 4g areas. I was wondering if maybe the session expires when you switch networks. Same thing would happen on my laptop when I would bring it from home to work or a coffee shop. FB might recognize that the connection is different. Meh, just a theory I thought I'd throw out there.

New facebook-tag screwing with WP7 integration

Since facebook added the feature to tag friends with you when checking in, my group-walls are acting weird with duplicated posts.
My pal tagged 5 of my friends with him at a checkin and now I see 6 posts of the same checkin from him on the "Whats new page" for that group. Not that sexy. :/
(I have all my homies in one group)
Anyone else noticed this?
I've not experienced this problem... :/
No one else getting this?!
This isnt a bug, its how you receive notifications from your groups in facebook. For example, I got a 'close friends' group on facebook, its around 22 of them in there. Whatever they do (eg. upload photo, update status, or check-in) I receive those notifications in my me tile as well, even though they have their own friends tile separately. You can customize what notifications you get from that group on facebook, or you can turn it off.
So to relate it to your problem, your friends will be tagged and each have their own notifications, which will be then sent to your notifications in your me tile.
Btw most of my friends dont use the check in function in facebook, we rather use foursquare. Much fun-er.
No I dont think you understood the problem.
Lets say I have 4 friends in a group... Bill, Fred, Carl and Rob (im talking about a contact-group that I created on my phone, not a facebook-group).
Bill checks in and tags Fred, Carl and Rob in his checkin.
Now if I look at the "whats new" feed for that group I would expect 4 notifications, 1 from each friend, right?
But I get 4 notifications from Bill, describing the exact same thing.
Bill checked in at Place X
Bill checked in at Place X
Bill checked in at Place X
Bill checked in at Place X
Thats an odd bug. Perhaps try removing your facebook account, restarting phone and readding it just to reset the entire facebook connection. Not sure if that would do anything as it may just be an issue between MS's built in integration and how facebook is populating information.
I've not experienced this so wish I could be more helpful. Maybe try posting on here as well:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...s-thread/d0cba50c-25a2-43da-93f5-b96dd5b870a1
I don't know that I'd call it a bug. The wall of a group is just the aggregation of the wall of everyone in it. If people tagging each other causes it to show up on everyone's wall then, unless they wrote code to handle that, you're probably going to see it multiple times. I think they changed how tagging works in Facebook so I doubt there is any special logic there. I'm sure they will address it in a future release.

Exactly.
Earlier you couldnt tag people in your checkins, but now you can and its becoming more and more common.
I dont think WP can handle this feature yet, would be nice if someone else could check.
edit:
Posted it on the Windows Phone forums.
It will probably be fixed later on.

Exchange calendar behavior

Noticed that with every single ICS rom i tried, whenever i get a meeting request in an Exchange account and i choose "view in calendar" it goes to the right day but never shows the actual timeslots blacked out or marked in any way......
Is it the same with everyone?
With the stock ROM this is working for me. When the meeting is accepted do you see it in your calender correctly?
Under "Calendar/Calendars to be displayed" is the exchange account checked?
The inability to process and/or respond to non-Google meeting invites (Internet Calendar Sharing, or ICS, aka RFC 2445) is a long standing problem which Google seems to ignore.
Please "star" all the issues on this list. Some are 2-3 years old with hundreds of stars, yet no fix in Android.

Snoozing Calendar Notices Not Working

My only complaint about the One VX so far is with the calendar. The notices are unreliable and the snooze is non-functional. Although I usually get notices, sometimes they do not work. When I do get a notice and try to use the snooze function, I never get another notice. It's the same as dismissing the notice. I have tried snoozing from the lock screen and while the device was not locked.
Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone know if a solution? HTC support has been much help. After my first support email, they responded with some suggestions but they did not solve the problem. I responded to their questions for more information on the problem but now they seem to be ignoring me. So much for customer relations.
My phone is stock and has not been rooted. I am using the HTC Sync Manager to sync my calendar with Outlook 2010. One of the suggestions from HTC was to create a calendar entry on the phone and not use the sync. This did not correct the snooze issue.
Thanks.
Only thing I can think is to use the Google calendar instead. IIRC there's a way to have it sync with outlook. I knew it's not Tue answer you're probably looking for, but I have to say I use google calendar for just about everything and don't have problems. There's also a great app called maluuba that I've been using for reminders (it's like Siri, so much easier to just say "remind me to take out the trash tomorrow at 8am, or whatever) but that seems to save to google cal too, though it has its own snooze/dismiss function.

Thanks for the response. A friend of mine had already suggested the Google calendar approach but I would really sync with my Outlook calendar at work. Now if maluuba will sync with Outlook that would work for me. I will look into that.
HTC has acknowleged that they are aware of this issue which will require an update to correct. No ETA on the update.

Google Hangouts it's horrible!!!

I think it's a horrible app you can't see who is online or busy or whatever. This is not a chat service anymore. There is no contact list basically listing all the people from your G+ and contacts. It's horrible!. In every level. I have to scroll through 800 contacts or search just to send a message and it doesn't even let me know if that person is online, so I have no idea how they are getting my messages
I have to agree. This is pretty terrible. They even removed the calling option so its just video now, as if video-only makes sense on a PHONE.
Hopefully Talk isn't dead by the end of the year.

I'm going to agree as well. I dont like that I cant see who's online. And almost all of my contacts dont have this service so, in my opinion, they shouldnt show up at all.

I did that as soon as it asked me to confirm my phone number. I really just want the built-in IM that came with my account, not a Whatsapp clone to replace it. I already have Whatsapp.
Hopefully Talk never dies. Hangouts is social media disguised as instant messaging.
So after watching a video on it, I realized it does show who is online by displaying their profile pic at the bottom when they join the hangout. But still, it shouldnt display ALL my contacts in the contact list. Just the ones who have the ability to use it.
Idk maybe it's just me, but I like the new hangout. You can send screenshots again and everything. Granted, it takes some getting used to, but after playing with it a bit, its growing on me

I just wish it was a proper unified messaging app - i.e. could send carrier SMS to non-Hangout contacts. Incidentally, anyone know what happens to the message if you do try and send to someone who doesn't have it? Must get routed somewhere?

Why would you think this would happen? Google doesn't want you using carrier SMS anyway. They will shift us to internet-based messaging completely someday. That's why you didn't get SMS integration.
I'm guessing it gets sent to their Google Talk.

So if you go and try to start a hangout it will show you a list of people to start the hangout with, people not available(offline) has their picture grayed out and the available(online) are shown as usual. As far as the video calling-I think if the person on the other end doesn't have video calling available(due to no front facing camera on their phone or no camera on the desktop/laptop) only voice calling will be the option available....have to test it though... I think it's fresh and after awhile it will get better...I don't hate it.
Sadly a lot not to like so far. I was wondering why there were duplicate users in my contact list, if they are showing non-gmail email accounts separately I guess that explains it. Unfortunately, it doesn't show what account users in the list are coming from so you don't know which one you can use, if any.
Hopefully they will fix the contact mess and re-add status information (online/busy/offline, mobile/desktop). I like the new emoji, but hardly seems worth the great leap backwards in functionality.
On the plus side, you can finally copy text from your message history, so that's one longstanding, inexplicable failure corrected

This is what is really annoying. It feels like a dumbed-down product even though its been in the making for what seems like forever. It even requires you to join G+ to get the most out of it. Plus, its not even really that unified, as people still have G+ messenger since this only replaces Talk.
Heck, the app rating in the Play store has plummeted to 3.9 as I type this. What a joke.
completely useless.
I can't believe it took them two years to make this.
google talk was MUCH better, and compared to let's say, whatsapp, google talk was completely useless. that's how bad this thing is.
