Hello,
I'm under Calkulin's ROM v2.9.2 EL29 and when I want to awake my phone it takes about 1sec for the screen to come up. Never did anything like that with my old phones (nexus s, evo 4g...)
Whats going on? is it only me? is there a fix? I dont have any custom lockscreen or anything like that. I use ADW Launcher ex and I have rogue kernel 1.4.1
Thanks!
Chances are your undervolted
Bump up your min clock speed a little bit

Thanks, I dont even have any app to control my cpu.
setcpu would work? any recommendations?
You mean I should bump my min speed to 500Mhz?
You must use an external sd card. This has come up b4 but nobody has an answer as to why the sd card slows the waking process. I just deal with it bcuz its not to bad. If you want a faster wake up remove the sd card.

I use a 32GB class 10 sd card and I get a very small delay when I hit the power button, but it in NO way affects my usability or performance. I would just get over it
*Oh that's on Blazer 4.0 EL29 w/ latest Fc18 modem. Default min/max cpu speeds but with slight undervolt.
In ICS I can't recall if the delay is shorter or longer. I'll have to test that...
i tried without my sd..didnt change anything.
Put my minimum to 500mhz, same..
Mine takes a second or so for the screen to come on also, unless I turn the screen on and off quickly before the phone enters sleep. Been this way on stock as well as Blazer with or without the microSD card. Didn't know it was any different for anybody else?? Other people's screens turn on instantly, or almost instantly after pressing the power button?
having a sdcard for me makes unlocking slow takes like 2 seconds versus without sd card
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I have the same problem and as others mentioned, it is due to the SD card. Mine can take between 1 and 2 seconds to come on. But this brings me to another point: I have a 16 GB class 10 card, but if I run SD Tools, I am only getting around 5 MB write and 7 MB read times. I had the same card in my previous EVO and was getting the proper class 10 speeds. I have tried editing the file for SD readahead, but it makes no difference. Has anyone had any success in making the card perform better? I have a feeling that if we can get the card to perform at it's full speed, it would cut down the screen-on lag significantly. I had this same issue on both EL29, and FC15 that I'm on currently.
I unmounted and removed the SD card and it still takes the exact same amount of time for the screen to come as as with the card in.

This is by far the worst part of this phone.....THE WAKE UP LAG..there has been much discussion on this topic especially when this phone first came out. With every new rom release I'm hoping some dev will fix this issue. Really it falls on sprint and Samsung for this poor design. I was hoping it would be addressed and fixed in ics...needless to say it hasn't.

Exactly what I did, no change. Takes about 1 second or a tiny bit more before the screen comes on. The only time it doesn't have that lag is when the phone is still awake. When it's sleeping, it always has this lag.
I has a ****ty SD card and have no lag
Im using the class 2 I think that came with the og epic on release

it is also happening to me on calk's 2.9.2. I was on 2.6 without any issues and finally decided to update since everyone gave good reviews of. However i do experience a fc here, slightly heavier battery drain and the wake up lag.
Meh, my phone is still usable and im just waiting on the new update or ics.

ROM flashing/battery problem: I've flashed a couple ROMS lately and I think I have the process down, however, I'm getting a massive drain on battery when I put a custom ROM on. Can anyone think what I have been doing wrong?
I ALWAYS odin to DK28, then root with one click root 2.5.5. I also always wipe everything 3 times.
I have tried with and without an sd-ext partition, which I did manually by formatting my card with 1 large FAT32 partition, then a 1GB ext4 partition . I tested going back to stock and going to the leaked DK28 with no ROM and those didn't drain my battery as much. I did follow the calibrating battery instructions on the xda forums (charge to full with phone on, turn off phone, charge to full, turn phone on, turn phone off, charge to full off, then wipe battery stats). This didn't help either. I'm confused why I'm having this issue when everyone else seems to be having great battery life on their ROMs. Thanks in advance for everyone's help.
Examples of my problem - on stock or leaked DK28, my battery lasts 1-1.5 days with normal usage. With both latest versions of Nebula and Bonsai, I have been barely getting a half day's usage before my battery dies. Also, leaving the phone on at night, I can last through the night with about 10-20% drain on the stock and DK28, with ROMs, the battery is dead the next morning.
Not sure what you're issue might be, just wanted to respond so you didn't feel ignored.
Sounds like you've done everything right.
I did notice poor battery life with bonsai. It's a really beautiful rom. I loved the esthetic. But my battery life was awful. Now I run nebula which for me has had decent battery life. But none of this matches what I used to get with custom kernels on eclair. .. Ah for source code.

I'm having the exact same kind of problem on my Epic 4G...I'm running midNIGHT 1.5 but I have the Yoobao 2800mAh battery which I was consistantly averaging 2+ days with whatever kind of usage. Now I can only get about maybe 18 hours out of it with even light usage. Ill take it off the charger @ 8am and by 11 am I'm @ 75%...and its not even a sleeping problem.
Here's the thing doe....ill have the phone powered on with the charger and it will read saaayyy 25%...if I power it off the green battery meter will show it nearly full at around the 90% full mark....I do switch ROM's occasionally but this is only a recent prollem. And if I power it back on within th same 5 minute window...it will read something like 50%....I don't understand how this is happening...any help would be appreciated y'all.

Sorry caught up today. I was telling both of you. Last ditch effort and besides you should delete that folder before any flash. You probably got 1 folder named android and 1 named (dot) .android. If not, delete them both. It stores cache files like album thumbs. Sometimes when my gallery is tripping (slow load images) the battery is also dropping while im looking at it.

Thank you to everyone that responded! I don't feel like the only one anymore. I have tried formatting the SD card before flashing, so no Android folder at all, just the zip files. *sigh* Thanks for reading and if any of you have any more suggestions, let me know!

I can't speak for roms because I dont run any. I get a full day out of 2 batteries. I flash constantly which drains fast. I noticed on dk28 after repeated flashes a few things start happening. Gallery loads slow, battery drains while watching it, flutters trying to scroll. This usually does the trick.

Anyone experiencing a delay when pushing the power to wake after a few min of being idle? It always runs perfectly when plugged in, but when not, there's always like a 2-3 second delay??? (running stock)
Yep, I've noticed this as well. The wakelag is extremely annoying.

I tested this, and it was just as lagged with or without a SD card. Maybe a tiny bit faster without. But still lagged.
I installed Tegrak Overclock and it seems to fixed this issue.
As bonus got 4600 on Quadrant with stock rooted kernel. I have a 32gb class 2 microsd card also
removed my sdcard and tried this huge increase in wake time. But even with the little lag with the sdcard in it's nothing that's going to turn me off of the phone.
It appears samsung is underclocking to conserve battery in sleep
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
which of course is a good thing...
Bump bump. Idk if anyone found this out or not, but spare parts will get rid of the delay on lockscreen. Set transitions and animations to fast and the delay disappears even with SD card in

Most android phones underclock when the phone is sleeping to conserve battery. I know for a fact the Evo 3D does it, and that phone had no lag on wake. I think it's annoying, but I wouldn't give up the phone because of it. I hope IF and when Samsung comes out with an update for all the bugs, they fix this bug too.
Alright I have only had my white DInc2 for a week and I have noticed this since day one, certainly on CM7 (with and without custom kernels) and possibly on sense too (I'm not positive since I flash constantly but I deffinitely use CM7 more). Basically when I hit the power button to shut the screen off, and then almost immediately hit it again turn it back on, the phone will hang and the screen may not come on for 30 - 60 seconds. It doesn't matter how many times I hit the button. This happened almost right after I bought the phone, running cm7 but at stock speeds and overclocked. As I said above it's happened on at least a few different kernels. So what could be the issue? I've seen something similar on the Eris back in the day and that was caused by the minimum voltage being to low on screen off. But like I said its done this even at stock speeds. I still have a little time left to return this phone if need be, or I have insurance that covers everything (including water damage) so I can always get another phone if need be. And the insurance has no deductible, so that's a plus.
If anyone can help me out here, it would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I'll try it but its so random, its very odd. It happened quite a bit when I first got the phone, then it didn't happen at all for a good 4 or 5 days. Also it only seems to happen when I switch off and back on right away, if I switch off and come back to the phone 15min later it comes right on at the press of a button.
Sent from my ADR6350 using Tapatalk
A little update. Running a sense 3.5 rom I had my screen off set to 245 min AND max. I haven't had any problems. So that's more evidence leaning towards it not being a minimum voltage problem. But the problem is so damn intermittent, I'm really not sure what to think of it. I did see on another forum someone else had the same problem but they didn't go into detail.
Well if anyone else has ideas, shoot them my way. Thanks

My phone hasn't been through any trauma at all and this just happened from one day to another and I find that extremely strange.

Are you using your phone and charging it constantly while this occurs? If it is happening while dormant on all roms, might be a specific app or the phone itself is giving up? Not too sure to be honest without more info.
130 degrees?! Where are you getting this info from? I can't even TOUCH mine when it hits 105 and it has an Incipio case on it! At 130 I'd be worried about the battery exploding to be honest.
Have you tried running an "empty" ROM on it? Just a basic ROM with nothing installed?

Crazy part is that it's not the battery that's getting hot. Its that plastic cover right under where the SD card and sim sit. I used a friends infrared thermometer and the highest is 132 but it averages 120-125. And today I used a "empty" ROM and just ran the browser for instagram and some Facebook, about 15 minutes in it got extremely hot. Also tried TW ROM "empty"

Sounds like a phone on the way out... Although I've never used an infrared thermometer on my phone I'm sure its not heating up to those crazy temperatures. When I use it heavily it gets warm but doesn't really ever get too hot unless I turn the screen brightness all the way up, then the screen gets hot.
I know of the area that you're speaking of - I'd consider replacing the device.

This phone was butter smooth when I got it. But slowly, over the last 9 months it has started to feel like my previous phones, which is disconcerting because I upgraded to a 2gb phone to avoid lag. But lately I find I am getting lag when hitting the power button to wake up the screens and especially when I click on a text box. I have to wait up to ten seconds for my Swype keyboard to display.
It's not like I've been filling my phone with junk over these nine months. I've kept all my old apps and added maybe 2 or 3. No huge games. I have 7 gigs of Rom available. I'm just not seeing why it should be getting gradually worse at responding. It's the same phone it always was.
Any tips or tricks?

try this, pre 4.3 doesnt have trim.
I tried it, and gave it a week to work. But the keyboard is still slow. It tends to display, but not respond to my typing for about 5-10 seconds. As I said, there have been no major changes with my phone... an app here or there, but that's it.
It's typically only when I haven't used my keyboard recently, like the first time I open it after it was in my pocket for a while. Almost like it needs to take some time to allocate some ram to it.
