Some people swear by it, but then again some people believe a supernatural being exists because someone said so.
Yeah I've used it since I got the Nexus and it works great. Does what it's supposed to do. I don't believe in supernatural beings though.
Full disclosure; I have had this bug which manifests about once every week where the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive in the lock screen and there is no way to unlock the screen or turn the phone off unless I pull the battery. I have this nagging feeling that it might have something to do with JuiceDefender but I haven't confirmed it.

I purchased JuiceDefender and also Green Power Premium and never really noticed a big difference in battery life against leaving them off and changing wireless profiles.
Getting almost 2 days out of my Nexus so may give them a go once they both fully support ICS just to test.

Disable JuiceDefender for a week and see if that bug still exists. If not, problem solved. You can do the same as juice defender by pushing the multitask button and swipping away any apps you don't want.

JuiceDefender is not only great for a little energy saving, but also for featured like WLAN by localization and display Brightness configuration.
I used it on the S2 and now on the GN.
On Ics it has some little bugs yet, but it also does seem great job here.

I have the basic version of JuiceDefender running on my GN and I swear its making a noticeable difference in battery life.
I have it set to disable my Data connection whenever the phone is locked. It re-enables it when I unlock it, so it doesn't come on when I'm just checking the time. The effect is immediate too so data is there when you need it.
It also comes on once every 30min just to let apps/email sync briefly.
According to JuiceDefender its improved my battery life by 1.7x. I'd be inclined to say its about right...

Lol it does a bit more than that mate. It's the radio function management I need since I'm always too lazy to toggle them manually. I've been meaning to disable it to test if the lock screen bug would go away but I find it hard to use my phone without it now that I've got so used to it. Now that's it's the Christmas holiday though I might give it a go.

It made a big difference in battery life but it takes way too long for the device to reconnect to the mobile network when i wake it up. Likewise, it will not allow me to get my emails throughout the day unless I wake it up.

The multitask button doesn't kill apps - swiping just removes them from the list. Its more like a recent used apps list - like long pressing the home button on Android 2.x use to be - than a multi task manager showing running apps.
As for juice defender, I bought ultimate, and it was just horrible. Very laggy UI, and felt like it was causing more battery usage itself than saving. The comments for 'ultimate' on the market seem to say the same thing. The free version seems much better, although you don't have as many options. There's also another paid version which is cheaper, but I havent tried it.
Put it this way, I uninstalled it Waste of £4.99 which is a ridiculously hefty price for something that cant even get its UI right.

I can confirm the same behavior on my phone with JD, forcing a battery pull a few times a day. after uninstalling it, I get no more unresponsive screen. I can only conclude that it wasn't playing nice with ics

yeah some little quirks BUT, definitely prolonging my battery due to wifi/mobile data management.
i'm not experiencing the unresponsive issues and stuff you guys are reporting..

i'm getting more than 16hrs on my phone.
as for ultimate. no need for that unless you have a rooted phone.

i picked up th pro version for $0.99 when it was on sale.
JuiceDefender Ultimate
Hi,
I'm using it on my rooted GN 4.0.1, works well.
By using 3G/WLAN management I come up to 25 - 30 hours lasting battery power.
At home and in my office I told JDU (JuiceDefenderUltimate) to switch to those WLAN's and disable 3G there.
I'vnt tested all the other features like cpuspeedcontroll, or something else.
For me it works perfect.
regards

Steps to prove yourself incorrect:
1) Install OSMonitor
2) Open GMail
3) Go to homescreen and open OSMonitor
4) In the process list, make sure GMail is listed (it should be!).
5) Press the Multitask soft button and swipe away GMail.
6) Check for GMail in OSMonitor and it will have disappeared as it is no longer running.
Magic!
Sorry I'm just on a personal mission to stop this misinformation from being spread.

On-topic: I've used JuiceDefender Ultimate on all three Nexuses over the years and I certainly think that it makes a big difference by turning wifi off when not in use and turning mobile data off when the screen is off, although I have loads of other settings configured within the app also.
JD Works Great
I have been using JD Ultimate on my Nexus and it works great (I would estimate 1.5 - 2x battery life).
I used the Nexus for a little over a week without JD just to have a set expectations of what my battery life is without JD.
I have not seen any bugs with this up til now.

I get the same issue and I dont get it when I uninstalled Juice Defender
My phone also reboots randomly and I am wondering if its linked toJuice Defender. The reboots only started recently
I use JD free on my GN, although I haven't seen what battery would be like without JD on it. On my Incredible, JD made the difference between not getting though a single day to getting almost 2 days out of my battery. On my GN with JD I'm still only getting about one full day's worth out of it, sometimes not quite a full day.
I am using Juice Defender Plus and it is set to manage it self then WiFi and 3g network. I am using wifi at home and in the office, and the rest -3g
In my opinion....jd plus does worth the money spent.
14 hours and 20 minutes used - 46% of battery left

Ice Cream Sandwich seems to do a lot of the things that JuiceDefender did on my old phone. For example, data is automatically turned off when you are connected to WiFi. I had it installed for a while, but when I looked at the list of apps that were using the battery (in the Android settings menu) JuiceDefender was listed as using a fair amount of battery. I'm not sure it is worth the hassle on this phone.
Hello,
I'm under Calkulin's ROM v2.9.2 EL29 and when I want to awake my phone it takes about 1sec for the screen to come up. Never did anything like that with my old phones (nexus s, evo 4g...)
Whats going on? is it only me? is there a fix? I dont have any custom lockscreen or anything like that. I use ADW Launcher ex and I have rogue kernel 1.4.1
Thanks!

Thanks, I dont even have any app to control my cpu.
setcpu would work? any recommendations?
You mean I should bump my min speed to 500Mhz?
You must use an external sd card. This has come up b4 but nobody has an answer as to why the sd card slows the waking process. I just deal with it bcuz its not to bad. If you want a faster wake up remove the sd card.

I use a 32GB class 10 sd card and I get a very small delay when I hit the power button, but it in NO way affects my usability or performance. I would just get over it
*Oh that's on Blazer 4.0 EL29 w/ latest Fc18 modem. Default min/max cpu speeds but with slight undervolt.
In ICS I can't recall if the delay is shorter or longer. I'll have to test that...
i tried without my sd..didnt change anything.
Put my minimum to 500mhz, same..
Mine takes a second or so for the screen to come on also, unless I turn the screen on and off quickly before the phone enters sleep. Been this way on stock as well as Blazer with or without the microSD card. Didn't know it was any different for anybody else?? Other people's screens turn on instantly, or almost instantly after pressing the power button?
having a sdcard for me makes unlocking slow takes like 2 seconds versus without sd card
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
I have the same problem and as others mentioned, it is due to the SD card. Mine can take between 1 and 2 seconds to come on. But this brings me to another point: I have a 16 GB class 10 card, but if I run SD Tools, I am only getting around 5 MB write and 7 MB read times. I had the same card in my previous EVO and was getting the proper class 10 speeds. I have tried editing the file for SD readahead, but it makes no difference. Has anyone had any success in making the card perform better? I have a feeling that if we can get the card to perform at it's full speed, it would cut down the screen-on lag significantly. I had this same issue on both EL29, and FC15 that I'm on currently.
I unmounted and removed the SD card and it still takes the exact same amount of time for the screen to come as as with the card in.

This is by far the worst part of this phone.....THE WAKE UP LAG..there has been much discussion on this topic especially when this phone first came out. With every new rom release I'm hoping some dev will fix this issue. Really it falls on sprint and Samsung for this poor design. I was hoping it would be addressed and fixed in ics...needless to say it hasn't.

Hello there xda. I bought my first SGH-i747m(Canada Bell version) and it had a pretty serious heat problem when I did use my cellphone doing anything for more than 5 minutes. After 15 minutes it usually bothers me too much so I just stop using my device.
I didn't try anything to fix it yet other than using a JB rom(ParanoidAndroid) on both my first device, and now my second device. They both do the absolute same thing. The bottom half gets really hot while the top half stays really cool.
Is that a common thing? If so, is there any fixes? It's really horrible to use a half hot/cold device, even worse than using a fully hot device.
Nah
Try turning Powersave On.
I had issues with overheating too.
Now they are all gone.
I'm running Nostalgia 7.5
It gets hot at the bottom because that's where the CPU and all that good stuff are, and that good stuff gets hot. Mine doesn't get crazy hot down there but it is definitely warmer down there then the top, that much is normal. Yours may be to hot down there however... Idk. But I've seen others with this issue cool the phone down with custom kernels. I've also seen people say custom kernels make there phone hotter.. Try it out.

I'm on custom JB, so there' no "powersave".
I guess I'll try different kernels etc. I'm quite close to actually selling the device, overheating is one of my pet peeves.
Are you sure its overheating?
Like the gentleman a few posts up said. Depending on how you use it. The phone will get warm.
It should never be actually hot, to the point where it will harm you if you pick it up.

try going back to stock, all of a sudden the phone doesnt get as hot.
or try underclocking your kernel on custom. AOKP and CM both have an out of the box clock of 1.8 Ghz.
tune it down to 1.3 or 1.1. issue gone.

I feel like I shouldn't be complaining, and that it's not "overheating" but it's getting warm. I'm used to my SGS1 which runs ice cold whatever I do.
I just underclocked it, but I don't even feel the difference. I'm now running the new ParanoidAndroid with the custom kernel recommended in here. It has all the tweaking tools necessary.
Happened even on stock ROM
Mine runs a bit warm too. It is warm to the point where is gets uncomfortable to keep in my pocket at times and as far as I know it is doing "nothing". It will be fine, then I check an email or G+ notification then it goes crazy.
One commenter suggested going back to stock but mine has been doing the same thing since then, it just seem a bit more regular for the last few days. I am now in KyanROM 1.3. I am going to give that po.wer save thing a shot over the next day or so and let you guys know how that goes.

I notcied it is overheating when it's on LTE and the battery drain fast. I turned LTE off and I am using 4g or wifi and i don't have this problem
I noticed my phone started connecting to LTE since this week too but my overheating problem started long before that. What I noticed though is that the battery also started to drain a lot faster when it started. For the battery drain, I am thinking it is either that LTE thing or a rouge app trying access my GPS a lot since the icon keeps popping up more and more in the notification bar "searching". For now I have disabled LTE and GPS until I have time to investigate them.
By the way, I tried using PowerSave, as someone suggested to help with the overheating, but it screwed up how some of my emails are displayed so I turned it off.
Okay, so I am getting pretty bad battery drain whenever I use my phone. The phone goes into deep sleep just fine, and wakelocks don't seem to be an issue. Whenever I use any app though, the battery drains very quickly. Now obviously using the device will make the battery drain faster than it would when it's asleep, but I'm talking about losing 2-3% with only playing 2 minutes of Scrabble or checking a news feed for less than 3 minutes. My screen is on half brightness, but it's only been a week since this has really been noticeable.
I'm not sure if my battery is getting worse or something (although I try to not overcharge it and let it get to around 50% which I don't see why that would be an issue) or this is just an illusion and it's been happening the whole time.
Has anyone found any solutions or ideas to help conserve battery?
I'm stock, nonrooted, running the latest update. I never have any sync or push notifications active. I keep NFC on but I've had that on since day 1 and didn't seem to be an issue before. I restrict background data for the Play Store (tried that yesterday but didn't seem to help much), brightness is always around halfway, and I am using JuiceDefender pro. I have the Amazon App Store installed which I've considered to be an issue, but haven't seen many people complain about it recently and it doesn't seem to report anything on BetterBatteryStats.
Bump? =\
I've been experiencing the same problem as you recently. I'm going to backup and format EVERYTHING and odin back to stock and see if that'll help.
I have a feeling it has something to do with my SD card.

Hmm I didn't think of that. I have an SD card as well but I've had it for quite a while so I'm not positive if that's causing it.
Tell me if ODINing it back to stock actually does something. I believe that the battery itself may be causing the issues though, but I'm not sure.
...So there's only one other person which these issues? What am I doing wrong?
I hate to keep bumping this thread but I am literally only getting 3 hours of screen on time when I'm on airplane mode and am at 20% brightness.

For the moment, my battery seems to be doing better. The only reason I wiped out my SD card was because my phone started getting hot at the bottom when listening to music from my 32GB SD card, so I thought it was some sort of corrupt file my phone kept trying to read and drained the battery

My speaker makes a popping noise for pretty much everything I do, though a bunch of people have reported that as well I think.
My battery has gone to hell. With almost everything Greenifyed, SetCPU underclocking to 594 MHz, I'm still losing about 5% an hour. When I turn Location and Google Now off, it's about the same, so I've just been leaving them on. I have a 5000 mAh batter pack that I carry everywhere with me now.

The popping noise used to not occur on my phone, but lately I've been hearing it now and then.
I'll second the mention of worse battery life (although it was also not-so-great on Jellybean). I haven't gone quite as far as vjaamm has, but I've tried to maintain a decent balance of apps and battery life and still can't push a full day. The phone goes from full to 20% in about 11 hours, with 80 minutes of having the screen on.
Cyanogenmod definitely does better on battery life, but the current nightlies still have some issues to sort out (broken Bluetooth audio, spotty Wi-Fi for some, weird speakerphone issue, unknown "My Number" for some and the consequential inability to send MMSes)
Everything is working perfectly fine for me on KitKat. I keep reading about others having worse battery life, but mine seems to be the same. It's not better or worse. I don't have any popping noises, random reboots or heat issues.

Did you installed Kitkat via RSD or OTA?? because the ota failed to me, and i installed KK from a zip that i found here
This morning, I was listening to come music on my commute to work. It's about an hour and 15 minutes. My battery was done to 83%. I wasn't playing any games, not looking online or texting. It's kinda crazy to drop that fast just from MP3's. It never did that on Jellybean.
I wasn't streaming them. I was using PowerAMP and just using songs on my SD Card.
I bet the phone just didn't like the music I was listening to. lol

did you notice a bug when you enter to the storage option in settings, when the available space is loaded, the settings app gets a FC??

Kitkat was working fine, and everything seemed to work as expected until recently when it started overheating, running the battery down really fast and then shutting off. When this behavior starts, you can't charge it from a car charger, a PC USB port, a portable battery pack and sometimes not even the official Verizon charger that came with the phone. All of this behavior started after KitKat. My daughter gave me her Razr M to use which still has JB on it, and I won't be upgrading it to KitKat. I don't think the M is quite up to Kitkat, or KitKat isn't optimized properly for the M. Cyanogenmod 11 runs much better, even with the few bugs it has.

i did a RSD now the unlock delay disappeared completely, but i still have the FC on storage option and i have to check if my battery life is improved
My wifes razr M is really starting to piss her off since the update. Reboots all throughout the day. SOD's (screen of death), and just general stupid behavior. Before I know it she'll be wanting a iphone or something.

I remember something like that happening when I had one of the verizon apps disabled. As soon as it was enabled again, the FC stopped happening. That was on Jellbean though.
I don't remember what the app is though. Sorry.
