Some people swear by it, but then again some people believe a supernatural being exists because someone said so.
Yeah I've used it since I got the Nexus and it works great. Does what it's supposed to do. I don't believe in supernatural beings though.
Full disclosure; I have had this bug which manifests about once every week where the touch screen becomes completely unresponsive in the lock screen and there is no way to unlock the screen or turn the phone off unless I pull the battery. I have this nagging feeling that it might have something to do with JuiceDefender but I haven't confirmed it.

I purchased JuiceDefender and also Green Power Premium and never really noticed a big difference in battery life against leaving them off and changing wireless profiles.
Getting almost 2 days out of my Nexus so may give them a go once they both fully support ICS just to test.

Disable JuiceDefender for a week and see if that bug still exists. If not, problem solved. You can do the same as juice defender by pushing the multitask button and swipping away any apps you don't want.

JuiceDefender is not only great for a little energy saving, but also for featured like WLAN by localization and display Brightness configuration.
I used it on the S2 and now on the GN.
On Ics it has some little bugs yet, but it also does seem great job here.

I have the basic version of JuiceDefender running on my GN and I swear its making a noticeable difference in battery life.
I have it set to disable my Data connection whenever the phone is locked. It re-enables it when I unlock it, so it doesn't come on when I'm just checking the time. The effect is immediate too so data is there when you need it.
It also comes on once every 30min just to let apps/email sync briefly.
According to JuiceDefender its improved my battery life by 1.7x. I'd be inclined to say its about right...

Lol it does a bit more than that mate. It's the radio function management I need since I'm always too lazy to toggle them manually. I've been meaning to disable it to test if the lock screen bug would go away but I find it hard to use my phone without it now that I've got so used to it. Now that's it's the Christmas holiday though I might give it a go.

It made a big difference in battery life but it takes way too long for the device to reconnect to the mobile network when i wake it up. Likewise, it will not allow me to get my emails throughout the day unless I wake it up.

The multitask button doesn't kill apps - swiping just removes them from the list. Its more like a recent used apps list - like long pressing the home button on Android 2.x use to be - than a multi task manager showing running apps.
As for juice defender, I bought ultimate, and it was just horrible. Very laggy UI, and felt like it was causing more battery usage itself than saving. The comments for 'ultimate' on the market seem to say the same thing. The free version seems much better, although you don't have as many options. There's also another paid version which is cheaper, but I havent tried it.
Put it this way, I uninstalled it Waste of £4.99 which is a ridiculously hefty price for something that cant even get its UI right.

I can confirm the same behavior on my phone with JD, forcing a battery pull a few times a day. after uninstalling it, I get no more unresponsive screen. I can only conclude that it wasn't playing nice with ics

as for ultimate. no need for that unless you have a rooted phone.

JuiceDefender Ultimate
Hi,
I'm using it on my rooted GN 4.0.1, works well.
By using 3G/WLAN management I come up to 25 - 30 hours lasting battery power.
At home and in my office I told JDU (JuiceDefenderUltimate) to switch to those WLAN's and disable 3G there.
I'vnt tested all the other features like cpuspeedcontroll, or something else.
For me it works perfect.

Steps to prove yourself incorrect:
1) Install OSMonitor
2) Open GMail
3) Go to homescreen and open OSMonitor
4) In the process list, make sure GMail is listed (it should be!).
5) Press the Multitask soft button and swipe away GMail.
6) Check for GMail in OSMonitor and it will have disappeared as it is no longer running.
Magic!
Sorry I'm just on a personal mission to stop this misinformation from being spread.

On-topic: I've used JuiceDefender Ultimate on all three Nexuses over the years and I certainly think that it makes a big difference by turning wifi off when not in use and turning mobile data off when the screen is off, although I have loads of other settings configured within the app also.
JD Works Great
I have been using JD Ultimate on my Nexus and it works great (I would estimate 1.5 - 2x battery life).
I used the Nexus for a little over a week without JD just to have a set expectations of what my battery life is without JD.
I have not seen any bugs with this up til now.

My phone also reboots randomly and I am wondering if its linked toJuice Defender. The reboots only started recently
I use JD free on my GN, although I haven't seen what battery would be like without JD on it. On my Incredible, JD made the difference between not getting though a single day to getting almost 2 days out of my battery. On my GN with JD I'm still only getting about one full day's worth out of it, sometimes not quite a full day.
I am using Juice Defender Plus and it is set to manage it self then WiFi and 3g network. I am using wifi at home and in the office, and the rest -3g
In my opinion....jd plus does worth the money spent.

Ice Cream Sandwich seems to do a lot of the things that JuiceDefender did on my old phone. For example, data is automatically turned off when you are connected to WiFi. I had it installed for a while, but when I looked at the list of apps that were using the battery (in the Android settings menu) JuiceDefender was listed as using a fair amount of battery. I'm not sure it is worth the hassle on this phone.
I have had my HTC One for about 5 days now. I love most everything about the phone. The one thing that is driving me nuts is the lag/stuttering/choppy scrolling in 3rd party apps. Apps like Plume, Facebook, and google+ are the worst. Facebook is almost unbearable. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there any way to fix it? I am seriously debating on taking this thing back. I hated the tiny screen on my iPhone but the scrolling was so smooth on that phone. Maybe I was just spoiled. But maybe I just got a bad device. Anyone else?
I have experienced no lag on this device. Bought it on launch day.
sent from my HTC one
Is it possible that one device would perform better than another? The sense launcher and all the sense apps scroll and transition really smoothly but as soon as I get in another app its lag city. I have noticed that the stock twitter app scrolls smoothly but if I use something like Plume or echofon I get lagging and stuttering. I am so frustrated.
So I ended up taking the phone back and getting it replaced by another one. Unfortunately it is exactly the same. I am really confused. I must pay way to much attention to the smoothness of my scrolling. So does no one experience any type of lag or choppiness in the facebook app or in twitter apps like Plume or seesmic? I'm just wondering if I am doing something that is causing the lag.

facebook scrolling is tough on any device...
It's loading all of that stuff in the background. Mine is 'choppy' as well but its not lagging. It responds immediately to any touch input, but the news feed hits a few snags when I try and go through it really fast.
Maybe what I am referring to lag isn't lag so much. Its just choppy like you described. It would seem that it is then more of a loading issue than a performance issue maybe. May just be something I need to get used to. I am struggling with the thought of going back to a 4 inch iphone screen.
What you are experiencing is normal. Call it lag, call it choppy, ect. Some people notice it like you and me, some people don't notice it. A lot of Apps for android have not been optimized to run on the new snapdragon 600 processors. Could be because they want the minimum requirements on these to be so low that Joe Blow with his LG Optimus DYNAMIC AT 500mhz can at least play Jetpack Joyride, while we HTC One owners see lag every three seconds. It you want everything to be buttery smooth, buy a Windows Phone 8. They optimize all there apps and have requirements met by each device. Same with Apple. But WP8 has no apps and Apple lacks customization. So I'll take my HTC One with a laggy Facebook and Jetpack Joyride and hope they optimized a new version of them for the new processors that are being released.
Perhaps everything else is so fast on the phone that you are perceiving "normal" as "laggy"
Sent from my Zune HD. Yeah, I still have one of those.
deep man.... deep....
Yeah, if you came from an iPhone which in terms of smoothness is pretty damn smooth in just about everything, then the little skips and stutters in Android will annoy you for a while.
It happened to me a couple years ago when I switched but it was much worse since the phones were so much slower. But the openness of Android and it's roms as well as the community made me stay. Now a days there really isn't to much of a difference on Android phones in terms of smoothness, or at least the gap has closed a bit.
You got to hand it to Apple though, they make their phones feel faster than they really are lol

think you should give bad reviews in the playstore for apps that are "laggy" for you.
Its the devs not optimizing code or trying to do too much at once that cause it.
Like the Menu button black bar. That has been around for what, 2 years, and its because devs refuse to update their apps to the newest android code.
Swype specifically is brutal for me ... sometimes upward of a two second lag for the keyboard to pop up.
I realize this is a big time first world problem.
Yeah I really think it does boil down to poorly written apps. I have tried almost every twitter app on the market and they all scroll kind if rough to me, but settled on the stock one for now. It actually scrolls pretty good. So it can be done. I wonder why that seems to be more of an exception than a rule.
Another thing I noticed it that it may have something to do with how android scrolls vs ios. Ios scrolls much slower but I think that allows for the choppiness from images loading to not seem as choppy. If i do a quick swipe up with my finger on android that thing cruises where in ios it scrolls a quarter of the way down. I think I'm going to just try and get used to it. I really like the phone overall.
I haven't experienced any lag whatsoever. The phone is pretty snappy. What is your memory usage average when you go into manage apps? Is something eating up a lot of memory?
The only other thing I could suggest is rebooting into stock recovery and wiping the cache.
Like others have said, it boils down to 3rd party app optimization. It's really unfortunate that a lot of apps don't take full advantage of quad core processors and I hope in the near future most of them do.
I don't have what I'd consider lag, but when scrolling in some 3rd party apps it is jittery.
I came from iPhone to HTC One as well and I was honestly expecting it to be just as smooth as the iPhone considering it has more power, but it, without a doubt, is not. The At&t One I had for work was jittery as well. I think it boils down to Apple makes the phone & software so it is more seemless where as one company makes android and another makes the phone and then modifies that software, so there's bound to be a tiny disconnect.
I still have my iPhone 5 but the jitter of the One is not enough for me to go back to a 4 inch screen everyday. When Apple decides to make a 4.7 - 5 inch iPhone, then we'll talk.

You can fix this by changing "long press home" to a menu button replacement.
Specifically go to settings hit "display gestures and buttons" and hit "home" you want the 2nd option "swipe up for Google now, press and hold for menu"

Hey guys,
I know this may sound like a broken record, but after some pretty extensive use, the lag still exists, and is fairly consistent. I am not Sure if it is just that I am spoiled by my note 2 and its ultra smoothness, but I am testing the crap out of this tablet and in and out of programs back to the home screen and swiping left to right, I am having very consistent lag or stutter. What is everyone elses tablet working like? I only am using 3 screens with minimal widgets and am always monitoring my background running apps and processes. Hands down best tablet I have used just wish it was Smoother

its not that bad, i bearly even notice the lag.
After installing both OTA updates, doing a factory reset, and rooting, I get no lag whatsoever, except when I wake the device. For some reason, if I haven't used it in a while, when I press the home button, the power button, or pull out the pen, it takes about 3 seconds to wake.
Ridiculous.

I had lag when search index was scanning my SD card for few days. One bad pdf or document may force to do it.
Wow..... just wow lol.
I agree with the OP. This was not supposed to lag, and I have it too. Love the tab, but I didn't have to have it. Now that I do, I won't get rid of because I like it. But it was supposed to be lag free, per say. Rooted and both ota's, hasn't gotten better or worse out of the box. Just has that typical Sammy lag. Slightly disappointed with that.
I've noticed terrible lag in theoldreaer.com. it is worst on chrome but better if I hold it portrait. the marking item read as i scroll kills the tablet. smooth as butter on my exynos 4 gn8. overall this tablet is the best android tablet I've owned but it does have its issues.
also, scrolling long websites take far too long for a device with 3 gigs of RAM to redraw. It should be able to keep the entire page in memory .
Lag...
I don't get an unreasonable amount of lag EXCEPT when opening the floating keyboard in a Web browser. I really like that keyboard for swipe typing with the Spen. Unforgivable? Yes. Definitely.
The thing that irks me more than anything is the ungodly huge notification drawer lagging when you swipe down. Maybe if they designed it like stock Android with two smaller ones it might work better. That drop down should be and is butter on a lot of other devices. I don't get it.
I'm not getting rid of the tablet but I will complain until they fix it in 4 months or however long it takes. Or until somebody makes a sweet TouchWiz ROM.

Coming from the G2 I thought this phone would be much quicker but it has been struggling. I haven't even installed all of my apps yet, and it's already really slow. Multitasking on this phone is not that much faster than the G2 for me. Maybe it is the stock launcher?
Also the Smart Lock is really iffy. Sometimes it doesn't work when I am at home, I think it's because it takes a couple of seconds for it to realize I am at home. Other times when I am out to it doesn't lock it when it should be.
Going to wait until I can root it and hopefully with some changes it gets better. At this point I am really disappointed by the performance. Just as I was typing this and listening to Spotify the phone is lagging while I am trying to turn up the volume.
I find the G2 is still a power house. Perfomance is not that different. I was a bit disappointed in the difference. Aside from the bigger screen, camera, and form factor, it doesnt really seem that different.
Supoosedly there are some background services hogging resources. LG came out and said it was the LG keyboard. Others reported disabling the MultiWindow feature also helps.
It isnt a huge upgrade but I believe it is just initial quirks that need ironing out.
I noticed that my g4 was running slow when I had an SD card installed. It runs smoother without one.
Coming from the Note family, I can say this phone is on par with the Note 4/Edge in terms of performance for day to day activities, with significantly better battery life. My G4 is fast, performs really well with minimal lag. The only lag I noticed is when using the LG keyboard. I installed SwiftKey and my phone now is (almost) lag free. You might need to reset your phone and see if that helps, as I see a lot of members here got their G4 issues resolved after a good fresh restore.
There are 20 other threads with same topic.

I always factory refresh from the store because they typically skip the initial setup steps. My G4 was acting crazy before that. My friend got a G4 new deliver and set it up herself and has been acting fine. Maybe one of the background apps is constantly looking for a skipped response and eating resources.
Thanks for the replies. As for this being posted before I didn't see it and I wanted to explain my experience / specifics.
I might try the factory reset and see if that helps. As for the sd card it would be hard to remove because it's the main reason I upgraded the phone. Also going to turn off multi window, I don't use it anyway.

Odd, I felt my G4 was getting pretty laggy using Google Now Launcher and switched back to the LG Launcher, which has been perfectly smooth and lag free for me so far.
I have an S6 as well that I had for a month before the G4 and it is definitely faster and smoother (except in Chrome), but I love the larger screen and awesome manual camera controls on the G4. Tough decision for sure. If the G4 was as fast and smooth as the S6, it would be no contest for me, G4 all the way. Still leaning towards the G4 though. Want to wait for the next update on each before making my final decision about which to sell.

Yea I don't know has worked for me, the battery life is for sure longer, but it's all negligible, it may be the phone just settling in, I am hoping that LG will come out with a minor update to address some of the lag and other issues, the s6 is faster though, it also has a faster processor and better GPU. but I feel the camera, screen size, design, Expandable memory and a few other things make it worth it, free extra battery and SD doesn't hurt either.

I disabled multi window and it has made it a tiny bit faster. Still lagging way more than a 2015 flagship should during normal operation.
I want to install nova launcher but I spent a lot of time setting up folders in the stock app drawer, not fun to set it up all over again.
The S6 is definitely faster than our phones, but as mentioned there are other attributes of the G4 that mean more to some of us. Still, I think this phone should be faster than what I am experiencing. Instead of the free battery promotion I wish they had spent the money on the processor or further optimization.

Nova can instantly import the folders, CMIIW. shouldn't be a problem
I tried importing but I don't think nova allows folders in the app drawer, didn't work for me. Also by using nova I lose the stock calendar widget that shows the month view with events on it, it has been like this forever, maybe there is workaround?
Definitely laggy. Coming from a faster Note 4. It blows my mind and aggravates me so much when a brand new phone can lag like this. Maybe it's the Slacker app... But I notice when running this and switching between hangouts.. It'll straight up freeze for 3-5 second sometimes. Note 4 never did this. Hoping a patch fixes this beta.
Just curious what other Verizon owners are experiencing. I love this phone and am keeping it, warts and all. But from other forums I'm getting the feeling that the Verizon model has a lot more issues than other models. My main gripe is I'm getting a total freeze of my phone, nothing happens on screen and button taps do nothing at all, this lasts for about a minute then the phone comes back, but everything runs very very slowly, then eventually it will run normally again. I'm also seeing a ton of lag, specifically something will run or animate very slowly and stutters, like for example if I close an app the animation of it shrinking can sometimes be fast and smooth, other times it's slow and stutters to the point where you can almost count the frames. My wife has a Note 7 as well and she had one episode where she was using WhatsApp, her phone completely froze on her and then after a minute or so just rebooted.
I've also had issues with wifi calling dropping calls left and right. I've had issues with the phone not wanting to switch from a weak crappy wifi signal to cellular. GPS was dropping a lot initially, but I haven't seen that issue lately. Battery life overall hasn't been stellar, but I hope that just means it is still breaking in.
I'm on Verizon and experiencing the same crap.. love this phone as well. I have disabled all the bloatware too

i have experienced the same i am not sure what gives but i hope an optimization patch is released for it soon.
Totally agree. I got the Moto Z about 3 weeks before Note launch and that phone is fast. I figured the Note would be just as fast. Nope. The Moto is very fast to unlock with fingerprint. Note has some delay and goes to lock screen then open. Bit hokey if you ask me. I get a lot of lag doing normal things. Was using Nova, thought that might be it so went back to samsungs launcher. Kinda helped. Just does not have the zip I thought it would. Might forgo the s pen and swap with my wife. Hopefully N will help, but we all know VZW will f that up too.

Mine hasn't experienced any of this. Maybe try a full factory reset from recovery?
Mine unlocks instantly with fingerprint. Iris scanner is OK as well.

Good lock is better and faster imo. I couldn't find it on galacy apps but worked just fine from here.

I just have to say. GTFO with your magical phone. 9 hours SOT. Give me a break.
I can't comment on poor performance on the Verizon Note vs others because I haven't use the others. I will say, some performance is poor.
Thank goodness we have root tho. Maybe we can fix some stuff the Big Red dictator screwed up.

Lol so how do we figure out screen on time then because according to you if i go into my battery settings and it shows screen on 9 hours that isnt possible
My phone is running buttery smooth! Slightly over 2 days battery life! No complaints.
For those with the issues, try a factory reset and dont disable anything. Run the phone and see if it still happens. If so then you have gotten bad phones.
I'm just now reading about some of these issues people are having. I've got a pre order phone. Delivered on the 19th. It's been a dream from day 1. Better than my note 5 by far. My 5 was dropping calls and battery dying in a day. Haven't dropped a call nor run out of battery. My s6 edge plus was horrible. Only had it for a day. This looked similar so I was a bit nervous. Other than it having an issue with either the gear app our the bluetooth sending ringtone to my gear s2 on all calls regardless of ringer settings I've got zero complaints.

I haven't had any of these issues on my Note 7. I have had it one week now. Battery life is decent, but I don't know what the stats look like since I am always near a charger. I took the ota halfway through the week and it didn't seem to affect anything one way or the other.
