Aren't you helpful? Oh wait. Nope you aren't!
Anyways
I had the same issue, basically if you open up your phone, located near the shoulder buttons are these square black stickers.
Peel back the stickers abit and you'll see some foam that has the switch. What the shoulder buttons have is a tab that depresses the switch and the tab may be damaged.
So take a tiny piece of paper and wedge it in between the tab and switch. Now see if your shoulder buttons work now. If it doesn't, then you may have an hardware issue.

I've been playing a lot of rainbow 6,so I've been shooting with the R button a lot. After 18k kills my R button now takes a lot more effort to push down before response. Is there anything I can do to fix this? It still works but i can't shoot as fast.

i believe you have encountered a "hardware failure" which if i am correct is covered under your warranty (if you have one), and i don't believe there is a fix (other than sending it in and having sony replace the "R" button)
another option would be to take your phone apart and attempt to clean the innards of the button (which is NOT recommended, plus it's probably a hardware failure which requires replacement of the "R" button {because it broke due to so much use} and 1. you probably don't have a replacement "R" button. and 2. if you do have a warranty, you would "void" it by opening the phone (resulting in having to damage the sticker under the battery)
so if you can't do any of those you're SOL at the moment.
I have the exact same problem and I found an easy temporary solution.
But first I have to ask you. If you take off the battery cover does the button work properly? for me it does.
I will explain the problem first.
The R flap is attached to a small piece of plastic. when the R flap is presses the plastic piece moves as well. This piece then hits the button that signals the xperia play to register an R press.
Now this plastic piece has bent upwards that means the R flap must be pressed harder so that the plastic piece can touch the button. The R flap is stopped from going to the maximum by the Battery cover that is why when you take it off it works normally.
What you have to do is slide something small and bend the plastic piece up a bit. Make sure not to bend the warranty sticker. I bent my up.
I will post pictures soon if the above seems really messed up.
Also like I mentioned I bent the warranty seal a little do you think I can still get it fixed under warranty?
As long as your warranty seal isn't broken off, I don't see a reason why they won't fix it for you. It's there to make sure you haven't opened up the phone. The button feels the same with or without the cover.

In the warranty pamphlet it says
7. Tampering with any of the seals on the product will void the warranty.
The seal is slightly bent and it looks as if it was creased. Do you think they will now? Also how come there is so many warranty seals on the Xperia Play? And why does it seem like they are made out of leather?

Bummer That RB6 is rather addictive when you first get started and even more when you get better To many headshots mate
I must say that the build is not tough enough and should be able to withstand massive use, after all it's a GAMING phone wich is used for 'tada' GAMING
I would send it back for a replacement

I've had the phone for around 2 months and the menu button and back buttons paint has started to come off ; has anybody else had this happen to them and do sony replace the buttons under warranty?

Yep I have this issue as well.Wait,it isn't much of an issue, but seeing this thread made me realize that as well haha.I think that they'll place it under warranty or you'll have to pay for it if you don't have one since it is "replacing a certain part of a hardware" ~.~

Yeah I don't like these kind of buttons because they always have these kinds of problems.

I didn't even notice that the paint was coming off from mine until I saw this thread. I have to get just the right angle to see it, had the phone for a couple months now
Had mine for like 6 months no paint "issues." How paint rubbing off is an issue with a phone I don't know. I guess it could be the tiniest bit unsightly but come on its a phone man.

Mines fine too. Although I'm with the dude above me, I've had some pretty unsightly phones when it comes time to upgrade
Babied mine but I use it alot and paint is coming off of Back, Home, and Menu. Things would match a bit better if Search would join them!

Dammit! Because it's so hard to push them without touching the screen I use my thumbnail on the bottom edge whenever possible and, yes, eventually the search button showed wear too (mostly because I programmed it for an emulator function in SNES9x Ex). Anyway, I'm trying to get warranty coverage for my alarm issue and they are trying to warn me that I will be billed $300 because of the unavoidable button paint wear. I'm serious! If anything, I should claim warranty on the button paint flaking problem alone!
Then I mentioned the battery door developing a crack where I frequently pry it off to swap batteries (I have a second Sony-Ericsson battery and an external charger) because it's another warranty complaint I have and she started trying to refuse my warranty because of that right there too! The man in the AT&T store would have swapped it out right there except that they were "out of stock." Anyway, when she said that the replacement would have no battery or battery door, I told her that it was irrelevant because I would be keeping the cracked battery door but she clearly had already written a note in the file and refused to delete it. I've never had such a stubborn RMA experience.
Hi, i wish to know what is beneath this 2 black square stickers marked in red circles, and what is their function.
Thanks

Those my dear friend are the buttons which are pressed by the upper L and R keys....see carefully...
I mean directly behind the stickers, not on top, the thing that is covered in a electrical tape type square sticker, i assume the trigger buttons aren't keep in place by stickers so i think this is something else. And if they are the l and r buttons, i want to know why they got a black sticker (what thet stickers are covering).
Does anyone knows.
Is there a screw begind the stikers, holdding the l and r buttons hardware?

Hey guys, I got paint peeling off at the bottom left corner under the menu key. I'm gonna buy a new faceplate but am worried that this might happen again. Just wondering what could be causing this? It recently got bigger today and expanded to under the home key.
Thanks.
Imo, i would look into warranty replacement.

First I've heard of this problem. Def get it replaced. Did you spill something close by it, maybe a drip or splash of something that would cause it to peel?? Just throwing the out there. Either way I'd get it replaced.

I wish I could, however I bought it off someone online with no receipt. Hopefully this doesn't happen again.

Even without a receipt you can warranty replace it. AT&T can see when the phone was purchased by the IMEI. I had a BlackBerry Torch that my buddy gave me and it messed up, I called them, and boom replacement BlackBerry. In fact that's the phone that I sold in order to get this one

^^^^exactly what he said. Considering the phone is still under manufacturer warranty as well.... You could always have them replace it.
Hi
Just got me mits on the N7100 and loving it, I upgraded from the N7000 and asumed it wouldn't be that bigger jump but jeezus its sooo much better
anyways
My S pen is scribbling lines when I have it about 1 to 1.5 cm away from my screen, surely it should only make a line when it comes into contact with the screen? ooh er....
Also I just opened MAPS and zoomed into me crin and tried to hold the S Pen to screen and pressing the button, but nothing happens? another ooh er.....
Any thoughts people
Cheers

Faulty nib... there's been a few cases documented on here already... try moving the nib with your finger to unjam it failing that it's a replacement required...

The nib does move up and down, the white end has about 1 1.5 mm of play, not too fused about the button taking pictures of my screen but drawing on the screen when the pen is far from it thats annoying, is this a faulty nib too?
Cheers
Lee
It is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the pen by opening it up and Adjusting the potentiometer. ..
The is a thread on here describing how to do it. ..
Might be worth a try?

It describes how to adjust the sensitivity of the S pen . Otherwise take it to the service center,
