Hi
Just got me mits on the N7100 and loving it, I upgraded from the N7000 and asumed it wouldn't be that bigger jump but jeezus its sooo much better
anyways
My S pen is scribbling lines when I have it about 1 to 1.5 cm away from my screen, surely it should only make a line when it comes into contact with the screen? ooh er....
Also I just opened MAPS and zoomed into me crin and tried to hold the S Pen to screen and pressing the button, but nothing happens? another ooh er.....
Any thoughts people
Cheers
Lee
Faulty nib... there's been a few cases documented on here already... try moving the nib with your finger to unjam it failing that it's a replacement required...

The nib does move up and down, the white end has about 1 1.5 mm of play, not too fused about the button taking pictures of my screen but drawing on the screen when the pen is far from it thats annoying, is this a faulty nib too?
Cheers

It is possible to adjust the sensitivity of the pen by opening it up and Adjusting the potentiometer. ..
The is a thread on here describing how to do it. ..
Might be worth a try?

S Pen clicking even when not placed screen?
Is anyone having this problem where even when you're hovering the pen at a distance above the screen, it still clicks the screen?
It happens to me not often, but when it does, it's annoying and can completely mess up what im trying to do.
Just wondering whether my device is faulty, a system bug, or I'm not doing it right. -_-
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Ye im having the same problem. Im thinking of returning it because its all the time. Cant use the pen.
Ah, just trying to see if I'm the only one.
Could you tell me where you got yours?
I turned off the hovering effect and it still clicks. So its either the pen or the phone.
I bought it in Norway
Does anyone else have a similar problem? Do let us know

I've solved the problem already.
Turns out it's a faulty SPen. Went to the store and they gave a brand new replacement pen. Works flawlessly now.

Sounds like a dodgy button on the pen.
Got nothing to do with the pen button. It clicks the screen when just hovering the screen.

I had the same problem but I am lazy and did not want to go to the shop and explain the problem to get a new pen. Instead I tried to hit the side of the pen against the table edge a couple of times and I have not experienced any problems with the pen since.
Why not. I'd rather spend the time to get a properly functioning pen, than using a quick fix which might break again in the future.

Thank God I found a thread on this! You are lucky to get a new s pen. I don't think stores here in India accept to replace it. Where did you buy the phone? Also, it was working good for the initial couple days and it started all of a sudden. Don't you think it can be a software glitch that can be rectified via an update?
Just hit the side of Pen by any solid surface (wall) strongly, be careful about the button's side. that is all!
This way helped me to solve my S-Pen problem
I had the same problem with you, since first use. I went back to the shop and they replaced the whole package phone plus S-pen. Now it's all in order.

Here is the solution. I tried tapping behind the S Pen button and it solved.
http://smartphones.wonderhowto.com/...ensitivity-for-better-touch-response-0140084/
But I would like to get the auto selection mode again, dont know how. Per the above link, looks like if I counter-clockwise move the screw, it can again become hyper sensitive.
A possible (more permanent) solution
This is a solution to the infamous S-Pen hover/pressing problem (where it will register a press when it's not touching the screen!)
I tried turning off air view, tried tapping and moving the pressure sensor tip... nothing seemed to fix it properly .. nothing except adjusting the potentiometers in the s-pen
The rough guide:
1. Remove the button from the s-pen (a sharp blade in the middle and levering up should do remove it but be careful it doesn't fly off somewhere unknown!.
2. Adjust the potentiometer (variable resistor) closest to the stylus tip (the writing bit). Turn it clockwise to make it less sensitive and CCW to increase it. A few degrees should be enough.
3. Replace the button - put the tongue side in towards the stylus tip and then rest the button on the stylus. Press the raised end towards the tip and down.
Test (actually you might want to test it before you do step 3!)
A big thanks to kevie88 on YouTube for suggesting it in a comment - a quick web search seemed to confirm it. I made a how to video that might help someone.
I called Samsung support and they are sending me a new s-pen anyway so I thought the above method was worth a go
Mine was really over sensitive put of the box so I tapped it on the coffee table a couple of times and it now works perfectly.

Good day. I'd like to consult some issues I have with my S Pen sensitivity. It's too sensitive that it triggers a tap or swipe even if the pen is away from the screen (maybe 5-8mm away). Anyone have any idea how to fix this? Firmware is XXLIH. Thanks!
Edit: Also tried turning off Air View and still had same issues.

the s-pen works with a button integrated into the tip, so it can't cause touches without actually touching something.
it most likely means your tip is broken/stuck so it constantly thinks you're touching the screen.
you can try moving the tip around a bit to see if loosens it enough to respond the way it should, but if that doesn't work you'll have to contact samsung or the store you bought your note 2 at to get either the stylus or the entire phone replaced.
replacing the stylus should be enough, but stores usually don't replace single accessories when they are included with a device.

Hey guys. Rather then start a new thread. I did a quick search and found this one.
I have the same issue as the OP. My pen seems too sensitive. When I scroll across apps or through the gallery, whilst hovering the pen a few millimetres above the screen, it clicks on stuff. This shouldn't happen right? It seems it does it more so in the top right corner. If any of you have the samsung weather widget on the homescreen there, all I have to do is hover the pen above the refresh button and it sometimes will just continually click on the refresh button. Its annoying. I'm just hoping its the s pen and not the note itself!
P.s I love this phone! !!
:crying:
Funny as I also had this weird behavior, and just rotating a little bit the tip loosened it up, and now all is well.
Tried to reproduce the issue with normal usage, and I wasn't able to trigger it again... will observe for a day and see what to do, as this N2 is just sweeeeet working !
Thx for the tip! :good:
Re:
No doubt i have heard several time about the problem of S Pen over sensitivity but in most cases the reason has been seen with the sensor. So, I think better is that you replace it with Samsung because i don't think there would be any other solution. The problem is related with Sensor and you should replace it as soon as possible.
Thanks guys. As you say, might be difficult to exchange it now as its only the stylus. As the phone is working flawlessly!
I'll use it for a few more days and see. Hopefully it'll loosen on it's own behalf!
I got the Same problem When I Consulted Samsung Service Centre they showed me that it is even happening in their handset

For those with issues, are you using screen protectors? I read one review where a guy mentioned a screen protector was actually interfering with the pen usage. And once he took it off it was ok. It was a matte one in specific.

I have this exact issue.
I read somewhere if you hit the back of the pen several times against a hard surface it seems to temporarily fix the issue. Something to do with demagnetizing the magnet inside the pen. Not sure if this is a load of crap, but it seems to be a temporary fix for me.
I contacted Samsung about it and they told me just to reset and reflash the firmware *sigh*. Not sure I want to do that just yet, but I will if no other solution is found soon.
I am not sure if this is right topic to write but my problem is also about s-pen. As you can see in the picture that area what is "over the s-pen holder" does not recognice the pen if immediatly. Like if I am browsing the web and scroll from that area there is always little delay. And when making note it works perfectly if I move pen to this area but not if I land the pen in this area, then happens what you can see in the picture. Does anyone else have this kind of problem?
I hope someone understood what I am trying to say.

This is what Samsung replied to me. I might as well try it to see if it makes a difference:
Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I am sorry that you are having issues with the S Pen of your Galaxy note
II, I can appreciate your frustration with this as it is a relatively
new device.
A feature of the S Pen is that when within 30mm of the screen, it
disables touch pad functionality with the finger. It should not however
actually do anything without contact with the screen.
Please be advised that the issue reported with the handset indicates
that it may need a software reset, or re-flashing of the firmware, in
order for it to operate normally again.
Before doing this, you should backup all the data from your phone before
going to Menu > Settings > backup and Restore > Select appropriate
functions from list.
If you require any further assistance, please contact Samsung again and
we will be more than happy to help.
Kind regards,
Mícheál

its random but its only exactly when u get to the point when the cursor would appear from hover view. but really annoying when trying to scroll thru a long list and when u swipe and move the pen up it jumps to somewhere else on the list, or something else is clicked just moving the s pen to the screen to use it. im ordering another s pen from samsung. hopefully thats the problem and i prey not the screen. im wondering if i tapped on the spen to hard or pressed to hard when drawing and messed it up

Pop the button cover off on the S Pen and twist the left potentiometer slightly clockwise. It adjusts the sensitivity of the pen and will fix this problem. I had the same issue and fixed it this way.

The button looks joined to the pen by solid plastic.

Hi,
Has anyone noticed or is my device somehow broken but it seems that when i draw near the left side of the screen it will be much more narrow than on center or right side. Defect screen maybe?
my friend had a similar problem, but in his case there was a circle the size of 1/10 the screen that did not respond to any pen input, he was sending it in for a replacement, it turned out that he had a magnetic cover(similar to the smart cover on the ipad) which somehow screwed with the spen input, as soon as he took off the cover everything worked normally, this might probably be your case too
This device has a "wacom" screen . It means thet if you press the s-pen the line is! thicker

Yeah i know. I tried to press little as possible or same amount but still it makes different thickness on left edge than center. I can make same amount on edge too, but i have to press much harder. I dont have any magnetic cover and this problem started suddenly when i was writing sms message.
Should the end of s-pen be bit loose?
Added after edit: There is little difference on thickness when i press really hard. Tried s-note and sms message. There is difference, but its really really small difference.

Hello,
I got Samsung Galaxy Note II since a week now and I noticed that the s-pen does not register the weakest (lightest) touch, like when I'm gliding with the pen over the screen (the pen's tip is touching the screen but barely). I'm used to very light touch, so when I'm drawing a line sometimes it does not register at all or there is some part of it missing.
Is this normal? Maybe I just need to learn to press it a bit harder. I found a lot theads about s-pen being too sensitive, maybe I need to calibrate it but the other way? Also I found some threads with the same question but no answer.
Regards,
Dragon
You can adjust the sensitivity by popping off the button on the side of the pen and turning the screw below it. Keep in mind that the way the s pen detects a touch is when the nib on the end is pushed in, so depending on how light you use it, increasing the sensitivity too much might cause false positives (registering touches when to pen isn't touching the screen)
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
Thank you for the reply D3_. That explains a lot. I guess I'm just pressing it too lightly. I will just have to get used to pressing it a bit harder.
You can still try adjusting the sensitivity, you might be able to find a sweet spot that works just right for you.
