Well the iphone might have better reception then our DZ. However what radio do you have? This can affect performance. Roms can also make a difference. If I remember right I'm running th .30 radio, which isn't the latest but it has alsways worked well for me. I don't have an iphone to compare so I don't know if it better or worse.

I have the Revolution sense rom HD 7.0.2 and it picks up every wifi at home and anywere else but here..my friends phone is unlocked however and jailbroken I think however I don't think that have an association as to why the Desire Z is not picking up this WIFI ...CM7 dosent pick it up either. I need a developers help
* it can't be the school blocking it because its visible to the iphone.

Is it truly visible, or is the SSID disabled and he added the network manually?

worthless 3g signal.

hi i have this problem that at my work i get close to zero 3g signal, while my n900 and my mates nexus one get full.
could this maby be solved with the radio update thats available when rooting?
living in sweden and im on comviq, so was my n900 and my mates nexus one

Hmm seems strange. Have you contacted HTC (not that they will be able to really help!) It might seem like a hassle but maybe try rooting so you can update the radio version?
yeah I will try to root my device tonight and see if that helps
will report back!

if you are going to use the latest way of doing it (via a linux live cd) you might want to start downloading it now as the servers are very slow!
too bad I am not home yet..... might aswell do it the old way then as I got all the files and so on...

okay so now I have installed the new radio Rom but still I get crappy reception.... any way to increase the voltage that goes to the radio module? cause this is really not normal....

WiFi, fumb!!!?

Just got a Desire today, and the wifi signal seems really really dismal,in my current location, 3gs gets 3(out of 5) bars, laptop gets 5 bars(out of 5), desire gets half a bar.
Has it always been so poor?
It'll get better with Froyo.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
don't bother with bars, download speed test app from market and check speed instead...

Seems to be the standard response to everything nowadays
Whilst the signal doesn't show up as strong as it does on my laptop the WiFi still works really well on my Desire
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
I get very good speeds on wi fi. No problems here.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Don't compare it with your laptop. The laptop has better antenna then a mobile phone.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
There are a few things you can do to improve the signal. First I'd recommend custom seeing your router to optimize WiFi signal. Select a lease used channel I found that helped my speed by a lot. And its fairly obvious why, the desire has a weaker signal strength then other devices like a laptop.
If you live in a zone that has a high density WiFi coverage finding a less used chanel will help. Make sure there are no other routers close by transmitting on that channel.
There is a app in the market that can help you with this "Wifi Analizer"

Should I trade my g2 for a desire hd?

I live in the us and I want a desire hd but since it doesn't use any us 3g I'm going to have to use edge. I use a g2 and a hd7 currently. Is the desire hd better then both of these if its running edge or is it not worth it. I just love the screen size really.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Nope. I'd stick with the G2

The Desire HD is indeed a beautiful phone and if it was here in the U.S. I'd get it in a heartbeat. But since it's not, I don't think id be able to settle for edge. Think about when using data intensive apps (like navigation), the map will take a while to load. I'd get frustrated! Browsing would suck too but not completely unbearable. I guess it all comes down to how much you use your data!

Should I get a one x

Trying to decide if I should start saving some money for a one x so in your opinion is the phone as good as the hype (speed, battery, etc.) Btw I haven't gotten a chance to look at the bands but would data work and to what extent on t-mobile in the u.s.

Well if you can work some magic and make better improvements to the battery life and performance than the OTA's, then by all means do us all a favour and buy the phone

Ha is the battery life really that bad? And I might but I gotta save up some cash first I might even be willing to sell my amaze to help me get enough depending on how good the phone actually is

No, it's not that bad at all, but I wouldn't complain about even better performance and battery life!

Ha true! But how the overall performance?
It's smooth, but not as smooth as some ROMs I was running on my sensation. There's also a bit of lag/choppyness with certain things, like if you wake the phone and flick through the screens with various widgets and live wallpaper.
Overall I'm impressed, worth the upgrade and it will only get better.

It's a great device, battery life is good in my opinion and it runs very smoothly. Only lag and problems I experience are software issues, which should be fixed soon.
I'd say : buy it if you want a device now, if you still have time you better just wait a month to see what Samsung Galaxy SIII provides and make an informed decision then.

Why does everyone hate the Droid X2?

Title says it all.
The specs of the X2 are a lot better than the DInc2's, so why does everyone dislike it over the DInc2?
Is it because of how hard it is to root?

I don't think that it's the locked bootloader that's the issue since there's plenty of people who use their smartphones without ever rooting their phones. Rather, I heard that the Motorola Droid X2 has a lot of hardware/software issues that always occurs at some point in its lifespan. Specs don't mean anything especially if support is terrible. Some of our wonderful people here in the Dinc2 community can tell you more about it.
this would probably be a better post in android general, as i havent noticed any particular amount of hatred towards other phones in the inc2 subforum
personally though? i wont buy moto devices until the stop encrypting their bootloaders....but even then i hate blur so i probably wouldnt
my take
if you only use aosp: get a nexus device
if you like sense/aosp: get htc device
if you like tw/aosp: get a samsung device
Blur sucks.
I had a Droid x2 it can't play music without pops and cracks drove me crazy. Also can't go into recovery without being plugged in to wall charger. Battery bugs. Random reboots .

I came from the X2, as mentioned before, music skips, pops, and stutters, the boot loader is locked so they can't get all the drivers/kernel updated, the graphics memory is on the low side, etc

because it's a piece of garbage, they stopped official development on the phone 6 months after it was released, they gave us a broken phone and never fixed it.
dual core yes, lag yes, FC a lot yes, camera horrible, motorola as a company equally as bad

Camera was good just had a strange blue tint but barley noticeable. No ffc though. But I would trade cameras with the inc2 any day.

I wish the inc2 had the x2 internal antenna. It blows or incs out of the water. My brother had an x2, admitably many problems, but he could get decent service where i had none.

I had a DX2 prior to getting the Inc2 and the main reason I switched was the lack of an unlocked bootloader which hampers any kernel modifications and slows down ROM development. However, I will say that the radio in the DX2 was much clearer than the Inc2 and performance (stock vs. stock) was better.
In addition, you can hack the 3G radio in Motorola phones (via the radiocomm utility) which will grant you unlimited wi-ifi tethering via the stock hotspot application without Verizon knowing about it. This is real useful as other tethering programs have limitations (e.g, usb only, need to run in adhoc mode, etc.). This hack won't work with the new 4G LTE phones.

Rooting in general allows you to use WiFi tethering without Verizon knowing. It's not limited to Cyanogenmod.
