Should I trade my g2 for a desire hd? - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I live in the us and I want a desire hd but since it doesn't use any us 3g I'm going to have to use edge. I use a g2 and a hd7 currently. Is the desire hd better then both of these if its running edge or is it not worth it. I just love the screen size really.

Nope. I'd stick with the G2

The Desire HD is indeed a beautiful phone and if it was here in the U.S. I'd get it in a heartbeat. But since it's not, I don't think id be able to settle for edge. Think about when using data intensive apps (like navigation), the map will take a while to load. I'd get frustrated! Browsing would suck too but not completely unbearable. I guess it all comes down to how much you use your data!

[Q] Should I sell my G2 to buy a G2x?

I'm thinking of changing my g2 for a g2x or another 4G celphone
Depends, the main selling point of the G2 over any of Tmo's 4g phones is the Keyboard, (IMO). it happens to be, I may pick one up in a few months after it's been rooted and such. I wan't to see what the Dev community is going to be like on a phone like that.
I was going to do the same, but decided to wait for the Pyramid instead

good idea
G2x doesn't seem to bring anything new so I'm sticking with my g2. Next year whatever the best phone for tmo is, if its white then I will get it. Seeing a white nexus s is so amazing, it made me fall in love with white phones.

The G2x doesn't offer anything new?
It's dual core (first for T-Mobile and one of the first period)
8MP camera vs 5MP on G2
FFC (if you care about such things)
HDMI out (first for T-Mobile)
AT&T compatible radio (will get 3G or "4G" speeds post merger)
I can see the case for waiting for future phones but honestly the G2x is the most "new" phone on T-Mobile since the Nexus One.
Oh my mistake. I thought it was just a g2 with dual core.

Iphone wifi vs androidz

So I was in school today and found out that it has a wifi through out the whole building.. and my friends iphone 4 was able to pick it up however our beloved androids (desire Z) wasn't able to detect or pick it upp..any thoughtts on why not cuz I'm going nutts here.

Well the iphone might have better reception then our DZ. However what radio do you have? This can affect performance. Roms can also make a difference. If I remember right I'm running th .30 radio, which isn't the latest but it has alsways worked well for me. I don't have an iphone to compare so I don't know if it better or worse.

What's your next phone virgin mobile users?

Hello all, I'm just curious to know what virgin mobile phone are you going to get after your wildfire s?
Sent from my HTC_A510c using xda premium
As of now, probably the EVO V 4G.
im thinkin the same thing
Although, now the LG Optimus Elite is looking pretty nice, too. I like the 3.5" and the NFC...
Yes! I was looking at that one, looks nice for $150
Sent from my HTC_A510c using xda premium
It's cheaper (even cheaper than my WFS!!) It's a hard decision to make. I really want ICS, but the LG Optimus Elite has NFC. Although, I won't be upgrading until about October anyway 'cause I'm gonna get a Nook Color soon.
Its a hard choice, I might save up some more cash and then buy the one V, Nook colors are sweet, I have one on ICS

Sweet! That's the reason I'm getting one. I hear it's easier to root than a lot of similar devices and ICS is really nice.
I think the V is more attractive in most ways, especially 4G (which I don't get where I live, but there are some cities fairly close with it) and ICS are pretty cool.
Yes your right, the nookcolor is very easy to root and install new roms (So easy a cave man can do it ) Ive had my nookcolor for about 4 months and i like it!
Ya 4g would be nice, hopefully the one V goes to virgin mobile, all we know is the evo 3d and lg optimus elite

Yeah, I've heard rumors about the One V, but I don't know if it actually will happen. Especially after the EVO V 4G announcement.
ya im thinking they might not get it since VM got the lg optimus elite instead of the one v

And even the EVO V 4G. At least they got one phone with a V, right?
BTW, I've got the international GSM version of the One V (Primou) and love it. Nice upgrade from WFS.

Above all else, the screen. It's no One X screen, but light years beyond the WFS. It's beautiful.
ICS/Sense 4 is really slick. At this point I have no desire for CM9. It's that good.
At the moment I have 700mb free for apps. And I have several 10-50mb apps installed.
The GPS is unbelievable. It can find 8-9 satellites in my cement house where the WFS is blind.

That's my biggest hope. If the current ROMs don't work, it's not worth it. I fear that it will be a similar situation to the WFS though. The VM version will be slightly forgotten behind the Sprint version. While Sprint and VM are essentially the same, the leaked RUU has really boogered up some of the Sprint phones, which leads me to believe there is a big enough difference there, but maybe not.
Hopefully they'll all be shipped S-OFF, though!!
After this phone, I won't be continuing my service with VM. The reception and data speed already was ridiculous. But THEN we got the data cap. And THEN they decided if I wanted to upgrade my phone, I also had to forgo my 25$ a month bill.
So I get less for more? F**k virgin mobile. I have principles.

hopefully its not that hard to fix because this time its not a completely different phone (ours is smaller and has no Sim) and when I get the phone I'm gonna hang back a little and wait got other people to see what happens to their phones when they try new roms

Looking for new 4g verizon phone

Hey guys, currently I'm using the x2 with cm7 and wifi tethering with radio mod. I just found out I might have 4h lte where I live, this would speed up my Internet a lot but I'm unsure what phone I should look into getting as far as moding the radio card and best phone all around after rooting.
Thanks

Razr Maxx! Any 4g lte dual core will kick ass.
Right and I'm sure they will. But I don't want to end up with another "x2" this phone is totally cap the devs are doing there best buy its still not that good =/

I say go with the HTC Rezound. Even though I don't know the Rezound the specs are amazing. Even though the Rezound has an LCD display it beats the RAZR/MAXX display. And you can extend the battery/sd card with the Rezound. Sense is better than Motoblur anyway.
If you want a high end qwerty go with the Droid 4, thats what I have now. Same specs as the razr execpt it has an LCD display insted of AMOLED.
Unlike the Motorola devices, there is a method to unlock the bootloader.
I'll have to look into the rezoned. Do you know if it had the radio card hack for tethering so it's not able to be monitored =P and I agree Moto blur pretty much sucks

I would wait for GS3 for couple of months. Not the 3G ones btw.
I'm wanting something I can mod and that's not going to cost a ton

What are you considering to replace your G2 with?

I'm sure there are plenty of threads with similar topics, but I haven't really looked around...
So anyway! I'm having a hard time deciding what to go for. I'm thinking of dumping T-Mo for AT&T since I'd receive a discount because of my employer. And I'd like a taste of LTE for once. But I'd have the discount option with anyone (except t-mo of course, go figure)
Lately I'm eyeing the GSIII, the Note II, One X+, Nexus 4 n Droid DNA
Thoughts? Opinions? Rants or recommendations? I'd really love to hear from the community
Especially about whether or not I should stick it out with Magenta due to all their acquisitions and promise of future upgrades.

My next device will probably the iPhone due to a few reasons:
- fewer GUI lags due to a different OS concept
- iPhones get their updates right after it was released and not just one but all device models. Furthermore the updates are delivered for a longer time. Even the 3GS got an update to the latest OS version. Now compare that to thenumber of updates for the Desire Z...
Nexus 4 if it ever comes to stock.

well there's more stuff that makes me prefer the iPhone. The active sync support for example. From my experience it is the only mobil OS that truly does Exchange ActiveSync (havent checked WP8 yet). It can sync all of my calendars as they are.
Android makes one big chunky calendar of all of my calendars.. iOS syncs my tasks, stock android doesnt.. only current HTC roms do but they are really laggy.. so I guess it comes out that from a user experience I'm disappointed with android.
what I love about my device is its keyboard and the fact that it basically is a linux which offers me some nice abilities as a software dev.
So I'm crossing off the Nexus 4 from my list due to it only having up to 16gb of internal, no SD Card expandability and no LTE either
Any more opinons?
Sent from my HTC Vision using xda app-developers app
I am looking for a new phone also, but I really don't want to pay the high price, or extend my contract to get a SGSIII. That being said, the Nexus4, which i think would fit my needs perfectly isn't freaking available. Called Google tonight to see if there was any hope for anything soon, and the guy was like "ehhhh I got nothing, keep checking the website."
So I'm running out of patience with my g2, and also Google for that matter. Whoever planned this sale/manufacture/distribution for Google needs to get the axe.
rant end.
interested to see what you go with.

Has LTE but only activated for tmobile or band 4 LTE so select locations.
Unless you dont have unlimited data or in a poor coverage area, 16GB should be fine for most people. Using google music and other cloud services allows you to not use phone storage for music/pictures so more space for other stuff.
I'm personally choosing the Nexus 4 or by the time i can get it, Samsung GS4 which should be released in april/mayish in the States.
I live in the northern end of SoCal, and my signal SUCKS wit T-Mo. I did see an improvement a little after the AT&T deal fell through, but ultimately I am entirely dis-satisfied with overall reception
Of course, that may be attributed to my G2, esp because I recently dropped it in water for the first time, recently
:banghead:
So cloud services are not a viable option for me at this time. And I currently use a 16gb sd card, and had to erase a bunch of music to make room. So a 16gb phone won't cut it for moi

One X+ for me
What I don't like about the One X+ is the lack of an SD card slot, although having 64gb internally isn't bad.

Mission upgrade completed.
After 2 years desire z going for sale.
I really enjoyed physical keyboard and I'm already missing it.
New phone Nexus 4 16GB
I never really bought the newest generations of smartphones, mainly because of monetary reasons, but I like to think I have always made a good choice.
I'm thinking about upgrading the Desire Z to a Sensation XE (I really like the looks, and the specifications are decent to me) or a One S (a bit better than what the XE offers). I really like Sense, so I will definitely upgrade to a HTC.
I went to the note 2 and I am absolutely unbelievably happy with my decision.
I had the g1 the day it came out (actually a little before since I was a pre order) same for my g2. Was thinking about going to the relay 4g but then I found it the note 2 was coming and decided to wait and check it out.
So glad I did! Didn't think I could go without a physical keyboard but then I thought maybe since the phone was bigger it would be easier. If I ever get frustrated I just whip out the s pen and use that. Comes in handy when wearing gloves too.
This thing is so fast but best of all, it has INCREDIBLE battery life! I never have to charge during the day like I used to. I still bring my charger with me out of habit but I've never even used it in the car. It's after 2 a.m. I've been going all day and I'm still at 44%. I change overnight just by habit too. Could go a day and a half with this thing. It is wonderful not having to worry about conserving battery. Just use it for whatever whenever.
Can you tell I love it? No regrets. Anyway. ..That's my upgrade story!
