how to tell if you have a cpo or "refurb" - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

##786# > view > reconditioned status > if it says NO with all 0's in the time stamp...you my friend have a brand new device! If it says YES with a date and time....welcome to refurb land
I'm lucky enough to have exchanged me black ET for a white, and received a brand new one. Came in a fancy box and everything. Also, as I've done this for a few customers as well, I can say that I've received about 5 brand new ones, fancy box and all.
Hurry now, before Sammy or sprint catches on.

you only get a new one if they are out of refurbs. they are not aholes lol.

I wish i had a white one. My phone broke and i got back a refurbished black one. i requested a white but they said in the store they cant do that. Someone hook me up with a white one please?

That is awesome. I just finally had to get my phone replaced for the first time since launch day as I just kept going into roaming at random times. So I asked for a white one as a replacement and the store didnt have any so had to have one sent to the store I just got it yesterday and seen this thread and yep I got a new one YA BUDDY lol

This trick does not work on the ics leaks

Well looks like I got a refurb. Not a big deal considering what I had before was a brick. I'll trade a brick for a refurb any day of the week.
Good find though.
Tap-a-Talked

Honestly the White ones should be all mostly new as they were released after the black versions. I would expect the Black ones to start getting refurbs since they have been out for a longer period of time. Still nice to know how to get the info however.

I just got my 2nd new replacement. The first was from asurion when I lost my phone and I just got one from sprint Monday. it came with no original box or accessories but it is brand new

Just a heads up!
This doesn't work on any ICS leaks/roms/builds/derp.

Thanks

Not necessarily. I had a droid 1 that I lost and they sent me a refurb that looked like **** and the hinge on the slide was loose as hell. I told them that was unacceptable and they said that the droids weren't being shipped anymore so I had to pick another phone (lesser phones). I told them I wouldn't take anything less that my droid, so eventually getting up high enough got me a droid, and I specifically requested that I got a brand new phone (incredible) because I didn't want to get another crap refurb. Then I was shipped a brand new incredible to replace my droid 1

Prepare to be pissed, then. It's all but assured that you will receive a refurb. It's like most any other insurance... you get a replacement kind, taking depreciated value into account. State Farm, for instance, isn't going to give you a 2011 Mustang if your 2006 gets totaled.
the screen has a sort of pink color to it when see whites at a low brightness, anyone noticed this with hardware version 2

New Inc 2 from asurion

Just got my dinc 2 replaced by asurion and it came 2.2.2!! I'm so stoked, I was almost sure it would come with gb but guess I got lucky
But the box was unsealed so I don't know if it was a refurb or new, everything looked new but I'm not sure if the phones is?

If the phone was wrapped in plastic and has the do not remove thing on the screen chances are it's new. The phone I think is still too new to get a refurb but you never know.
I also believe if it's a refurb it will have to say it in the box saying something along the lines of it's "like new"
My GF got one from Asurion on Monday and it was brand new, The box was not sealed, but it had GB on it.
Well it was in the plastic bag and had a film over the screen that just said do not remove

I hate to say it but that is not true.
To truly tell if you got a refurb or a new phone, look at the top bar code on the side of the package. If there is a sticker covering it with "CLNR" plus a bunch of other letters, then you got a refurb.

Read the rest of my post. Not saying it was matter of fact, but most likely.
Also like with the barcode, they have to tell you if it's a refurb. It will be marked refurbished somewhere.

I wasn't trying to be mean sorry if it came off that way. Mine only had the sticker on the box but the phone looked brand new and was in the plastic with the do not remove screen protector. Makes me wonder if they didn't just take new ones and add the sticker.

They might do that to identify replacements for warranty purposes, since replacements only carry the warranty duration of the phone they replaced.
Mine was the same way - in a retail box with all the films on the screen and camera lens. It included the battery, back, sd card, sim and the charger and cable were both sealed in their plastic bags. The box did have the CLNR sticker, but in every possible way, it appeared to be brand new. Still hadn't been upgraded to 2.3 either.
My wife got a real replacement, just the phone, back and sim in the little replacement pouch and it came with 2.3. We actually have a replacement for that on the way, since it suffers from a constant impromptu rebooting problem. I'm hoping she gets one still with 2.2 this time

Cool, thanks for the info. I checked mine and as I suspected, it's not a referb. Says "No" under refurbishment status. It does bug me a bit that the referb my wife received was clearly defective, as it's been plagued by the constant reboot issue from the minute we activated it. Obviously it was returned for that exact reason and they probably did little more than a factory reset and shipped it back out. Oh well, at least it's almost trivially easy to get them to send another.

New Vs Refurbished replacement phone?

How do I know if the phone that is sent from T-mobile as a replacement phone for a defective one is Refurbished or NEW one ?
I have been told that it is more likely a refurbished device but there is a possibility that they send new ones sometimes !
I just don't think it's fair to receive a refurbished replacement for an only 1 month old "defective " one !
Hey Denver Guy...I believe there is sticker under battery that will say its a refurbished device. But usually its up in the air what you recive from them

Refurbished is a very broad word. You can send a phone in cause a button is loose and once fixed it will now be labeled as a refurb. Out of all of the Refurbished phones i have received in the past none looked less than new. Even when my sister received a refurbed Mytouch 3g nearly a year later...it still looked brand new with zero issues. Its not something I would worry too much about if you have to send your phone in to get a replacement. You can however try and ask them to just give you a new one out of the box as well for exchange.
Edit:
Just my input and I know it doesnt answer your question. But like mentioned slightly , if it is within the first 30 days I am 99% sure you can just ask for a new one.

The replacements are usually refurbs that come in plain white boxes. You'll never get one in a retail box from replacement unless arrangements were made prior.

My last ones were a mytouch 3g slide and mytouch 4g. When I got my s2 replaced it was just an instore exchange so that one doesnt count since I got a whole new box.
I doubt it because I was told specifically that they were refurbished. If they were new, it would prob be easier for them to have you go to a store and do an exchange.
I just got my warranty replacement sgs2 today from T-mobile it came in the white box but has default screen protector. I bought my sgs2 in the beginning of Dec"for the guy who asked". It looks flawless and smells new"lol", but I'de say its refurbished, because it didn't come in the sealed box. I made a big stink about receiving a refurbished phone when I called it in, but like the other fellow said they would not guarantee a new phone, but did agree its not fair to buy a new phone and receive a refurbished phone back."but still wouldn't guarantee" anything."bull crap"
There are no labels that say it is a refurb so makes me "kinda" wonder. Because att refurb phones are labeled behind the batt.
But any ways 2 more things. A lil Off Topic so sorry stop reading if that bothers you ,but I think its cool..
Originally I bought 2 HD2's at wall mart for 49.95 each "Best DEV Phone EVER" and got two 100 gift cards for the phones."Nice" 9 months later my HD2 reboots its self all the time outta nowhere, so T mobile says sorry heres a g2x cause htc doesn't make hd2's anymore."sweet I love the phone" so I think that was pretty cool. It was a refurb though. works perfect. Woulda rather had the HD2 in both cases though.
Now my wife broke her screen and we did a insurance claim for 120 and they sent her a brand new htc HD7 with the Mango update on it, sealed in the box. neat phone but no android for it so I don't like it lol.
I just thought I would share some of my phone replacement exp's with you guys.

Refurbed T989s... Any good?

Few coworkers of mine have T-mobile and are looking for a Samsung device for VPN support. Due to being in contract they're looking to get a good phone without breaking the bank. So that leads to the T-Mobile site selling refurbed T989s for $30.
Any refurbed owners want to offer any feedback? I think their greatest concern is the 90 day warranty - but from what I know on the E4GT it's extremely likely that if it breaks you'll notice it before then. They're not looking to root it or do anything special either, in case that's a factor.
TIA and I did search by XDA forum search on General & Q/A before posting - so hopefully that will avoid the flaming.
P.S. Hope you guys get the OTA today and that it has the eMMC fix in there as it is rumored to!
No one has a refurbed GS2 from T-mobile? Find that hard to believe....
TIA

After sending mine back once for a random hardware issue, as always, tmobile sends me a refurb in pristine condition, but clearly its not brand new straight out of the box. I've had 0 problems with it and as with any other refurb'd products i've purchased always work just as good as new.
When I had HTC's Glacier / Mytouch 4g I went through 4 sendbacks from various stupid things I had done to it, all returns got refurbished back, which all worked fine (until I broke them myself)
I'd go for it. Whats the worst that can happen, you lose 30 bucks? Where is this link to the 30 dollar refurb?
Lets get serious, a refurbished phone upgrade or value plan?

Person was quoted 100 for new blaze or 30 for GS2 refurbed as a few of their upgrade options. Value plan, they mainly need for vpn support, good browser and terminal emulator.
My thought was get the GS2 for that price... But only if the refurb isn't junk.

As for link, just go to T-Mobile's site and look at current phone list. Was there as web only special.

From my experience with warranty exchange, the refurb phones are as good as new. I have never had an issue with a refurb phone and would not worry about it. But for $30 that sounds really cheap for a GS2, even if it is refurbed. Do you have to sign a contract with them or something? The price just sound too good to be true for a straight out purchase NO CONTRACT involved.
I have a refurbished T989
I had a new one but it stopped working properly, it began to act as if the desk dock or sometimes the car dock was attached to it. Became very annoying. Tmobile sent me a refurbished one, though I wasn't too happy about it. The packaging was identical to a new one. I was even allowed to keep the extra battery & back cover. They asked to send the old one back, and this was earlier this year. Everything seems ok so far "knock on wood"
The one thing I'd like to say is, I used to work at Best Buy Mobile. We'd sell insurance policies where people would pick up refurbished phones if they broke theirs, and honestly, those were garbage. Too many would come back with problems again...not good.
So you know, it's a risk

2 yr contract reqd according to site. Maybe they're just trying to move old stock?

That's why I wanted to get some opinions before deciding to suggest or not. My thinking is that there isn't much in the GS2 that easily breaks, so if they go for it then watch it carefully...

Same here, I hardbricked my phone a couple months ago and I'm sure the replacement I received was a refurb. I haven't had any issues with it so far.

I have a refurb right now. Looks brand new. Send as a handset exchange from my amaze cuz they had none to send me. Youd never get a refurb with any damage or scratches from T-Mobile. I also have the premium handset protection so its always warrentied. Dont see the need to pay extra when I always can get other ones if there is problems.
Also for the person who said Blaze or SG 2, comeon now, thats an obv answer
I have a Epic Touch I am selling!!!
If you get a refurb, you can count on it being the Made in Korea version produced pre December, 2011. All of those devices are known to exhibit mediocre screens when compared to the post December 2011 versions that are Made in China.
When I say mediocre screens, I am referring to the lines, blobs and poorly calibrated color. Though for $30, it is a good deal.

How can you tell which one you have? Mine is a refurb I got last week and seems perfectly fine

Did Anybody preorder the Red GS3?

I preordered mine back on the 15th. I wanted to see if I was the only one who waited for the red one. Anybody know when they plan on shipping the red ones?

I didn't get one but know they are arriving either tomorrow, Friday, or by the 29th. Check your email...they'll send you a shipping confirmation with tracking #. Post pictures as soon as you get it...I might just have to pick another one up.

Will do. I tell you one thing, at&t customer service are idiots. I have been calling all week trying to get a date they plan on shipping it no-one even understands the concept of pre-orders. They ended up giving me a $25 credit for my troubles. ugh.
-and whats this "new users must wait five minutes between posts. I've been a member for almost 4 years!!!"
Get in contact with a mod on the 5min rule...how many posts do you have? That could be the issue right there.

I can't wait to check out the red one. If I don't end up going for it, I hope my wife does.

Everytime I went to view my order, it still showed the red one as pre-order. I called today and was told it had already shipped and was arriving today. Should have a blue and a red one waiting when I get home!
If anyone wants to trade I have a white one pm me

Can it be bought off contract. I'm with Bell in Canada and would love to get a Red 16 GB one for my wife just to have people wonder where it came from. I have a Blue 32GB unit now and a SGS 2 for my wife.

Mine is "Out for Delivery" but isn't getting here fast enough...!!!
Received mine today...really love the menu n back buttons...they light up red too
I played with a red one at an AT&T store today, it looks speckled which is interesting.
Looks better than the stock photos online, imo.
EDIT: not sure why I didn't think to take pictures with my Nexus (especially putting them side by side, it should have smacked me in the face, oh well)

I'm so impressed AT&T didn't brand the crap out of the GS3 box and left its fugly logo for just the back of the phone.
that logo on the front of One X lessens its coolness infinitely
Not liking the look of the red, glad I'm on blue to be honest. To each, their own
I love the red capacitive buttons! It looks awesome! I'll probably still go with white, but this is definitely awesome!
