I got my replacement phone and GPS was incredible. For a week locks up 3 meters! Happened constantly and always until today. GPS ****ted out on me while my brothers EVO locked instantaneously. I'm tired of this and idk what to do anymore as i need GPS :/
Yeah, i havent had gps since day one se with my old nexus s. Unfortunately i dont think ill ever get a samsung again. The screen just isnt worth it. Its frustrating to say the least. Good luck on getting yours to work though, none of the roms or "fixes" helped mine.

I had great GPS Locks until I rooted to ICS Roms...No problem with GB and any rom on GB...When I went to ICS modem after modem just random locks...Then I tried a GB Rom on ICS...this worked the best...I was usin an EL29 Modem...Today I did the One Click Odin back to stock installed CWM...Gotta lock ...went back to CWM...restored ICS Rom...gotta lock in seconds...without usin WiFi...just GPS Test...Now I'll try drivin with it ansd see what happens...Usually I get the first lock quick...then stop the car go wherever ...return to car fire up GPS...and no lock...the only way to get it back is to reboot...then I get it again in seconds...It drives ya crazy...But like I said when I was on GB...whether Stock or rooted...never had a problem with GPS...ILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS TODAY...
i've flashed between different modems and roms over the 5 months i've had my e4gt and gps locks within seconds for me. i'm on blazer4 EL29 right now, with the EG30 modem. it's always had the best signal and speed for me. screwed around with some FC modems last night, bootlooped my phone trying to downgrade from FC07 in CWM. had to use heimdall to flash EL29. s'all good tho.
My gps works great on stock and all el29 roms since i got the phone when it first came out

Here are my before and after shots.
Before = 3meters lock
Now = 200meters lock
The GPS issue is definitely a bummer. I'm unrooted fully stock & have tried everything possible to get GPS to lock on. The only thing not making me from making a big stink about to Sprint is that I hardly have to use GPS. Still this issue definitely needs to be addressed & fixed.

Okay if you are running ICS it is a known issue to have constant GPS lock-ups. I can run GB EL29 flawlessly with perfect GPS, and then flashed any ICS leak and have the GPS lock up after using it a few times.

Im on EL29 and no GPS lock. Sprint said my GPS was working perfectly fine but i showed them right in front of their face that it is not. And the guy STILL kept saying its working. I'm like no man the GPS light is still blinking and it's accurate to 70 meters...They decided to send me a replacement but I said that's not gonna do any good. They're still sending me one though...God damnit -__-

Hah! I thought I was the only one rocking the EG30 modem. Still is the best for me, and never had LOS.
Did you have to pay for the replacement? If so how much and do you have insurance?
Having the same problem with the damn good and thinking of either sending it back to samsung or send to sprint store.

no and i have TEP. insurance means i have to go to ausrion and pay 100$. if i didnt have TEP i would have to pay 35$

Everything has been perfect with this phone except now I've had two reboots in the past two days and I'm considering swapping it for a new handset (could be indicative of a larger problem). Yesterday it rebooted when I was browsing the internet, it had 70% battery before the reboot and then the phone was reporting 15% right after. I did a battery pull and it came up to 40% after. Weird. Anyone else have any issues like this?

I havent had a single one since I posted this thread. I'm thinking it was a fluke. My phone runs like a champ now, especially since I rooted and used autostarts and titanium to get all the bloat under control.

At the time I posted this thread I was still waiting for a way to root my current ROM, with no flashing involved. With all the problems that people were having with LOS I didn't want to risk flashing a new kernel and potentially starting to get LOS when I never had it before. I still haven't had a single one and I got this phone on release day
Well, thanks to a FUBAR with the CIQ removal script and no backup, I moved away from stock. I'm now running Calkulin's and haven't had any LOS or random reboots. At least, that's what I'm running while I patiently wait for CM9. That being said, I recommend it.

Yeah I had the same FUBAR lol. I ended up using odin to go the EG31 route. I really feel no desire to go with a custom ROM. Back in the EVO days the stock ROM was always so bloated even with just Sense that you HAD to go custom to get any performance or decent battery life out of it. The stock ROM on our E4GTs just blazes and is damn near perfect already. The only thing left for me to do is get rid of CiQ and then it will be absolutely perfect. I have the odexed version of the noCiQ mod waiting to be flashed but I'm 1000 miles from home for the next few weeks and can't risk screwing up my phone. I only brought my macbook with me so using odin in case of a fowl up is not an option right now.

Oh I'm aware. I still do nandroids just in case now but honestly, stock ROM+removed bloat + autostarts is awesome.
I used to be flash happy when I had my EVO, I flashed new ROMs all the time (and always ended up back at MIUI). With my E4GT I just want it to work with no problems and I'm happy.
I'm stock too. I did the whole flash everything under the sun with my evolution and evo 3d and other phones. Ill root and flash when cm9 is stable. I had one radom reboot once but I think it was an app issue.

Well, maybe two and a half.
I was using FB17 on my old black ET (bought on launch week), before it was bricked.
GPS would not connect. Vlingo was very broken - would not work with a bt car kit unless you manually unlocked the screen.
It was very snappy in my testing though.
I now have a brand new white ET, and I tried FC14.
Exact same problems. None of those were fixed in the last 3 1/2 weeks.
Thank god someone has figured out that you can simply remove vlingo garbage and replace it with a number of dialing apps like google voicedialer. I don't know if it can be done on ICS, but it works very well in EL29 gb roms.
So, GPS is a deal breaker right now, possibly on two somewhat different versions of hardware (old black et vs white new et.) What the hell are the developers thinking not fixing gps?
Also, FC14 was noticeably choppier than both EL29 and FB17. Maybe it was because of the particular widgets/software I used, I don't know. Could be a problem too.
Anyway, any thoughts?

When I started flashin ICS Roms...Couldn't get a lock or very spotty coverage...I tried all the Apps out there for GPS...None worked...What worked best has been used by many people on here...for me it worked the first time and I always get a lock...Here's the deal...
If you are willing to take the time to do it, this seems to work for everyone:
Odin one click back to Gingerbread
Odin flash kernel w/ recovery
Restore nandroid (optional)
Get GPS lock on Gingerbread and keep it on.
Boot to recovery and flash format all zip and ROM.
So Odin one click back to el29 GB...
get CWM there as well...Get your lock...leave it on...Go to CWM...restore your ICS Rom of choice...Reboot...ICS will open up and you will have GPS lock...works everytime...At least it has for me and a lot of people on here...
GPS was the Deal breaker for me as well...I use it a lot...Now I have an ICS Rom for my Daily Driver...
Well GPS hasn't been a strong point for Samsung in general. The devs your referring is Samsung, right? They have the necessary tools, like source code and non-gpl drivers. I'm pretty sure Samsung will get GPS better on ics at some point.
El29 is very refined. I would totally expect it to run smoother than any ics leak at this point.
I don't use any car/voice mode, so I cant comment on that.

It works for a while. Then you lose gps again. It's too much trouble flashing and reflashing, whereas it should just work.
EL29 calks roms is very nice and smooth. Everything works, with a proper theme it looks a lot like ICS. It's just not worth it putting up with ICS bugs right now.
The only thing I'm really missing from ICS was the browser.
In the two days I've been running FC15 I've experienced none of what you mention. I think it's the luck of the draw with hardware/software and sprint service in your area. Are you updating your profile and PRL after flashing new modems?
FC15 is the smoothest build I've experienced since EL29 (which remains my goto version if the current ICS build doesn't do the job).
Did you do a complete wipe before installing? Did you make sure to flash the full rather than the nodata version if going from GB to ICS?
I'm certainly not insinuating you are incapable of knowing how to flash new builds but sometimes we overlook the simplest steps which leads to major complications.
If you've done all the above (including using Calkulin's format all) and still experience these issues then I'd definitely stick with EL29 for awhile longer.
My gps locks faster than ever. It's insane. I used gps all over CT, RI, and MA this weekend and was perfect. Didn't even get confused by 95 exchange in Providence.

Of course el29 will be smoother it's an official release. It isn't the developers fault GPS is goofy on ics either they been working hard to fix it... maybe you should read the bug list before you flash anything. Nothing will be completely stable until an official release is out thank the devs they got us this far and at least we can use most ics roms as a daily driver... a couple months ago no one can even get ics to function now look were we Are.

I was talking about Samsung developers, not xda developers. Maybe I should have clarified. But I thought it was self-evident, since there's no source code for ICS available yet (and probably won't be for months.)
As for bug lists - ICS roms threads simply don't have them. So please don't patronize and act all butthurt for no reason.

It is hard to not flash and I'm only a recent flashaholic (boy do I wish I'd paid more attention to XDA when I had my EVO 4G, would've saved me the mistake of buying the POS 3D).
After FC07 I was going to stick with EL29 until the official release came out but then the 13, 14 and 15 leaked builds came out with overall good reviews so I dove in again and so far I haven't regretted it.
Official release date, who knows, this is Sprint after all but with the leaks coming fast and furious common sense would dictate it can't be too far off (at least we hope).

You are aware of the difference between "unknown dev-state leaks" versus "official releases", right? Also that devs post leaks for us to test and report back bugs, of which there are multiple threads containing these lists, right? The issues you report have been answered in several threads, several times.
My gps has worked in every FC ICS build so far. (Lucky me I guess)
Few things that don't work, error out.
Accuweather daemon sometimes FC's.
Moving apps to SD card a bit wonkey. Currently doesn't move them to the ACTUAL SD but to "usb storage" on the phone. FC15 only.
A handful of apps still aren't compatible with ICS. (NOT the rom fault).
Signal bar info isn't correct on any build pre FC15.
Market sometimes takes awhile to actually start downloading apps.
GPS sometimes doesn't turn OFF. <- eating your battery VERY quickly.

Ok i am not new at flashing and android, but i am stumped. Here lately I have been getting the dreaded circle with the line through it.. I have flashed radios through Odin and recovery, reflashed roms in both methods and even Kies... and also done a nandroid restore of a rom before this happened. When it finally gets connected (after 10 minutes, sometimes longer) i have not problems until i reboot and it and i have to go through the same process of trying to get signal.... any help would be appreciated. or point me in the right direction... i am currently running stock unrooted 2.3.6...
I have also tried my sim in another phone and my daughters sim in mine same thing with my daughters sim.. just throwing that out there..
*bump* no one have this problem?
hmm. flashed Darkside and it seemed to have an effect on it... took only 3 min to get signal... weird!!!!
going to reboot in a sec to see what happens
NVM did it again...

I haven't experienced any LoS on any ICS roms personally, in fact the only LoS I've experienced was on EL29 roms, ICS seems to hold onto 1-2 bars in low signal areas for me where as I used to have LoS in the same area on GB.
The only complaint I have is WTH is with the damn El29 stock touchwiz/ICS on the leaks??
I thought that they were "upgrading" my phone with ICS not just tweaking it to work like it in hardly noticeable ways.
I really hope they aren't serious about keeping the experience 98% touchwiz like in EL29 because I'm going to dump my phone for a gnex if I need to in order to get away from TW.(It's not that I hate TW it's just getting BORING)

Sorry, but that's how the device is gonna be. TouchWiz runs ON TOP of Ice Cream Sandwich so for a stock experience, you'll have to go with a Galaxy Nexus or a stock rom like AOKP or CM9.
Haven't experienced LOS since being on a custom ROM....which was based off EG30 haha

Though unless you had 2 sprint phones on you its hard to blame the firnware or hardware and stand accurately. I cant say ive experienced an LoS more than twice in a year.

Though doesnt qualcomm make the cdma radio?
I've never experienced and LoS on EL29, just on everything else. It really sucks. I want ICS so badly but the LoS takes such a toll on battery life its not worth it. I squeezed 7 hours out of FD24 with a 2300 mAh battery because of LoS. Bleh
I too have not had any LoS since EL29. Even in EL29 I only got it perhaps once a week. Have you considered taking your phone in for service or replacement?

Are you paying TEP? If not if the phone is defective you can get a replacement through Advanced Exchange for $35. I feel you need to do a fresh flash of EL29 stock, update prl and profile (so sprint sees you) then flash ICS.
No LoS for me on anything past like E13. GPS locks though....ohhh dont even get me started. And why would anyone switch to gnex? AOKP > stock ICS any day!

I'm on FD24, but I have experienced LOS...at work, where there is a lot of metal in the building, where no one gets reception. Comes back when I go to a spot where there isn't metal.

Actually Last time I talked with a rep, yes the phone is covered under TEP. However that was about 18 months ago regarding an Evo I got through Craigslist. Even if you don't have TEP, there is some other program you can exchange your phone through, can't remember what it is though.
Worth digging around if your E4GT is giving you that much trouble. I think this phone is fantastic. Only real trouble I have had with this thing is bricking it while playing around with CM9, then my local Sprint store swapped my phone for another within the hour.
No LOS here but I have had a few times where the phone suddenly showed no bars but then 20 sec later it jumped to Max then seddled back down to 3 bars. So far so good.

ROFLMFAO..... I take it this was recent?
Not unlike the time when i had LoS when i threw my startac at that guy who had LoC.
My day to day phone is an iPhone 4S, but the camera is disabled on it (work restriction), so I have an SGS III for traveling/ weekends (usually used with no SIM just for pictures).
The SGS III was running a TW-based 4.1.1 ROM, and I want to go back to completely stock. I flashed the 4.1.1 stock AT&T ROM, which works fine, but it can't update OTA or through Kies. I un-rooted the phone, and that didn't help with Kies, so now I'm stuck in some in-between purgatory with a working, but very out of date OS. CWM must still be on there somewhere too.
How do I get out of this? It looks like I need to get back to the stock bootloader and recovery, but how does one do this? I used to be great at flashing ROMs back in the SGS I/Captivate days, but man has it gotten complicated since then! I read a number of threads, but none of them seem to address this particular scenario.
I'd be open to going to a very close to stock ROM if that's easier than going back to a completely stock setup, but I'd prefer to go completely stock.
I'm going on a trip on Wednesday, and I'd much rather have 4.4.2 than 4.1.1 when I swap the SIM over for some blistering fast LTE on my travels.
Plus, my mom has the same phone, and hers was never rooted, so she got OTA updates and now she has a newer version of Android than I do.

So after a day stuck on 4.1.1, the phone decided that it wanted to do OTA updates to get to 4.3 and then 4.4.2, so now I'm upgraded. The problem I'm having now is that my GPS is completely shot, it will only work once in a while and then flake out. My mom has a twin to my phone that's never been rooted or had ROMs installed on it, and it's GPS works just fine. What gives? It was extremely frustrating have to revert back to my iPhone while traveling. If I didn't have the iPhone, I would have been royally screwed trying to travel without working GPS... I am completely fed up with Samsuck at this point!

Sounds like you have a mixed up modem. Make sure you have root and then try flashing the modem zip in cwm recovery. It's the NE4 modern and is listed in the development forum.

Thanks, I'll have to look into that and flash it.
Maybe the modem just didn't get updated? I'm so fed up with the thing, I might just try flashing CyanogenMOD or something to see what almost real Android feel like. TW is even laggier and buggier than I expected... We'll see.
I don't think I have a root right now, but I'm pretty sure that I do in fact have CWM... in that case, can I just go ahead and flash the modem?
Ota would not have worked if you had cwm, it will only work on stock recovery. Your modem is probably fine as well because a mismatched modem/bootloader would cause unknown baseband and no imei issues, not just a flakey gps. There are other threads on fixing gps issues, some codes to enter in the dialer, but since yours comes and goes you may just need to tighten the screws, I've heard that sometimes helps.

I was able to get into CWM, I did absolutely nothing to the phone except let it sit, and a day later it finally let me do OTA. I'll take a look at those and see what I can come up with...

EDIT: Attachment failed
So your modem is up to date. Try the dialer codes http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=53350404

Yeah, I actually just did that, and it *appears* to have worked. I'll have to throw GPS on when I'm running errands tomorrow and see if it has actually worked. I'll keep my fingers crossed!

Or not. I just went out for a quick errand, and threw the GPS on. Nothing. It must have looked like it was working based on Wifi or something. Surprisingly, it can't even fake it using tower triangulation, which, in theory, should be almost as good as GPS...
I'll take a look into the screw thing. It wouldn't surprise me since I swap between the SGS III and an iPhone, so I pull the phone apart a lot, and it's a cheap plasticky design.

It's not showing any GPS satellite. I'm trying GPS Fix right now, we'll see if that does anything. I tightened the screws, and that didn't help...
I'm about to throw this POS out the window! I only paid $50 for it on contract, so I'm not too upset, but it's highly unlikely that I'll buy any more Samsuck phones after having three Craptivates (they kept breaking and getting warranty swapped), and now this POS.
And I can't seem to sync any music to my iPhone, but at least that has working GPS LOL...
