removing phone and messaging? - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Right so I've dug my wildfire up from its grave to use as a media player when running/training I usually take a 1St gen nano 2Gb with me on tour, I did last time but lost it somewhere in the middle of Helmand province, no doubt that **** was sold
my Xperia play's are my everyday phones (I have 2) but I've decided to put my Wildfire to use, already flashed revolutionary cwm, CM9 and beats but as its only media player and has no sim anyway. Am I correct in thinking its just a case of doing a nandroid backup (so I can restore in the future) and deleting mms.apk and phone.apk to make it a glorified HTC iTouch?

Yes,make a nandroid backup and then download root uninstaller from market and delete everything you want.

Yes another Newbie sorry

Hi,
All just got my HTC Desire this morning and eager to go, but not sure how to start.
Can someone let me know in what order I should begin?
My phone is locked to T Mobile and I have 8gb memory card and would like to have gold card, A2SD+ and Froyo 2.2.
Hope I aint sounding too amibitious for a newbie, just want to do things in the right order.
Please asume I a total numbskull (wife does)
Reagrds
I'd wait for UnrEVOked 3.2 to be reposted (it has been removed for a short while to sort out some issues).
If it works for you, you won't need a gold card which makes the whole process much easier.
Regards,
Dave
first thing is just use the phone, get used to it, enjoy it. If you then feel you need to look into custom ROMs then read the posts from the Chefs and see which one is right for you. TBH, stock 2.2 is more than adequate unless you wanna install an obscene amounts of apps

True that, just enjoy the phone! Right now you havnt really got a reason for upgrading, unless you really want 720p.. 2.1 is just as fast, just dont mess with the phone too kuch for now.. do you have an amoled or an slcd version?!

Don't worry about the iPhone4, the desire is better imo. Even if it is unrooted, and the iphoney is jb-ed.At least you can hold your phone and call at the same time ;-).

I also have to agree with EddyOS.
And keep in mind, most applications coming out now including updated applications have the option to be moved to SD.
So Unrevoked 3.2 will root my desire which was updated OTA with stock froyo 2.2? I have unbranded device btw. Software number is 2.09.405.8, and HBOOT is 0.92.0001
me too has chosen the HTC desire for enleghten my contract with T mobile,.its not a tmobile phone but my provider is ,.i started searching some themes last night ,. and found out i need to root ,. and put a new Rom on it like Leedroid or cyanogen rom for applying some stunning Themes ,. so i dig in deeper all day long today founding out there is not 1 program yet except for unrevoked 3.2(wich is taken due some bugs) that would possible root my android 2.2 phone ,.tho i came across many links from this site,. and enjoy the loads of info on here .
OK I am going to sound really stupid now.
In my eagerness to download apps (some do not have the option to send to SD card) I have used the internal memory up.
How do I configure the phone that all apps get moved to the SD as routine?
Yep a totally dumbo I know, you can beat me up later

Yes, you are dumb. Not for downloading too many apps, but because you don't understand that almost every forum has a search function. Even asking the almighty google would have given you the answer without being flamed.
Apps2sd. The app in the marked, not the root-mod. But don't put widgets on sd.

New to Dinc2 (from Fascinate)

First, let me apologize for asking stupid questions.
We'll be getting our Dinc2 replacement tomorrow, coming from Fascinate. Any tips or suggestion as to where and how to check if our phones are rootable? I know IF the phone is preloaded with GB 2.3 then I'm screwed, so do you power up the phone first and check for the version in 'About Phone' like on Fascinate? If it's loaded with GB, how do you guys backup your apps+data and which app do you use? from what I understand Ti Backup required root.
What the heck is s-on and s-off I saw people talking about? is it some kind of on/off software switch to enable or disable certain function?
No offense, but there are threads about this all over.
That said, you will need to activate your phone and then go into about phone to check the version, although there may be a way to determine that through adb without activating. Just be sure you switch airplane mode on asap after activation or the phone will attempt to upgrade you to gb on its own.

Yea check under about phone. If you are on 2.3.3, there is no software method to root yet. I think the app mybackup pro can work on unrooted phones, but I haven't tried it so I am not sure. Tibu does require root. S-off means you have access to the nandroid section of the phone http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=838909

thank you, I read some stuff about using the XTC chip from china to root the GB, I think I'll just wait for the devs if mine came preloaded with GB.
I would get two replacement phones tomorrow, since both of them are of separate orders, it's possible that one may come in Froyo and the other in GB, my wife don't care about custom ROM and other stuff, she just need a phone that work and not having missed calls like the Fascinate did. It would be nice if mine can be rooted because I want to remove all the verizon trashwares and run Ti backup (bought the pro version).
Verizon tech told me they would only ship me the phone, battery, and back cover. He said my Fascinate charger is compatible with the Dinc2 so they won't ship me new charger...are the charger interchangeable for real? if the samsung charger fried the Dinc2 I guess it's going to be on them then. LOL
My fascinate charger works fine with my dinc2.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk
It's usually better to use the oem charger with your device. I would get an Inc2 charger.
Sent from my Inc2
If you use the xtc clip you may not be able to go back to s-on. I would wait for a software method to root. Mine is stock atm and it runs pretty good.
Sent from my Inc2
They are interchangeable because most smartphones utilize micro-usb connection. I agree with stevl. Get one for the inc2.. also because it can be connected to your computer or the actual charger which is really nice.
Yea we bought two extra samsung chargers and two car chargers when we first got the Fascinate, on top of the OEM that came with the fascinate. It would cost me to buy a bunch of new one for the Dinc2 again, glad they are compatible. I use the Go Launcher EX and Go themes on my fascinate, I don't suppose it would work with the Dinc2 because of the HTC sense yea?
I keep reading about the signal being weak on Dinc2, especially in the city, is it that much worst than Fascinate? is battery life better or worst now with the Dinc2?
I get about 1.5 mbps down for data speed. Way better than my fascinate. I get about 20hrs battery. You can use go launcher ex instead of sense. It runs pretty good on Inc2.

Received my Dinc2, they also sent me the extended battery with the back cover. The bad news is...it came preloaded with GB 2.3.3 I tried Mybackup Pro and it failed to transfer Angrybird or any other apps progress, Ti Backup Pro is a no go since it requires Root. The speaker phone is definitely not as good as the Fascinate, call volume is weaker, but other than that I do like the Dinc2, the screen is as great and reception is about on par with the fascinate, Wifi speed is slight slower, but overall the Dinc2 feels much snappier, I'm glad I switched over to Dinc2 despite the fact that I can't root the GB yet, don't want to buy no XTC clip so I'll
Android Market updates never failed, it pulled all new updates ran successfully in the first attempt. Both of my Fascinates often needed to rerun several times for the update to download or install.
I bought the Otterbox Defender cases for our new Dinc2, I'll stop by my local Verizon store to see if they would let me exchange the extended battery to the standard one.

transfer b/u to different evo?

pardon my fng-ness. it's been awhile since i've thought about any of this stuff, and i only read and learned enough the first time a few months back to be dangerous. and, well, annoying, i'm sure.
so, i've got 2 evo 4g's, one rooted, one stock. the one that's rooted now has a usb charge port issue - it will not charge because the port slides too far into the phone. neither phone had been updated to the latest sprint my question is, if i do a back up via nandroid or titanium, can i save that file on the pc, move it to the stock evo, flash it and have the unrooted evo now magically be a mirror image (including root status) of the one i need to take in for service?
as i write this i am now starting to realize probably not, but it's worth asking.
thanks.
n/m. if i can't charge the damn phone, i certainly can't transfer files from it. grrr....
I don't recommend using a nandroid on a different phone. You can restore your apps from titanium backup, just not system apps. There's too many differences between phones.
"We're coming from a pure power source."
A minor note.. If once evo charges, why not charge both batteries with that one to get your other up and running...
And try to get my root backup or titanium to backup the files for you.
i've actually got the two evo's and an Anker charger/backup battery, so i've always got a fresh battery. but...i'm in sales and always on the phone (or surfing between calls, thanks ADD!), so i'm always needing to swap batteries. i could keep going on like that, but prefer to have everything working properly.
I have two EVOS my wife and I, I should say and yes I have very readily swapped nandroids back and forth like nothing. Even when both systems were running diffrent OTAs but both phones were rooted. My advice is root the other phone load the broken phone nandriod on to the good phone SD card and run recovery on the good phone. Also... Back up the existing nandriod on your computer (just in case)

Should i root or not

Proud new owner of HOX was using GS3 before and HATED every moment of using that piece of crap! So far im in love with my HOX but since im running stock ICS i do suffer some performance issues time to time, So therefor i need your opinion should i root my one x and install custom JB rom or should i wait for the official OTA from htc, My main reason for rooting is like a said to flash JB other than that i can live without rooting my one x so should i root or wait for the OTA.
Use your phone for a while first, there have been a couple of issues that have turned up a little while into ownership so best ensure you don't have them first.
Then, once your happy you won't have issues, it's up to you whether to root or not, personally I always root for better control and backup ability.
Could you elaborate more into what kind of issues?
jb ota is right around the corner if your phone is not branded...
just wait till you get it and decide after if you still feel the need to root.
Will the gaming performance improve with jb cuz rite now when i play gta 3 it lags like crazy! i cant even imagine playing gta vice city which should be coming out in few weeks.

Don't root your phone it will void warranty with htc ,wait at least a couple of months to see if any of the hox issues that may or may not shows up ( WiFi ,screen issues.hotness) on your phone

Agree with #2, #4 and #7
Not just yet, wait to see if another root method comes that won't void warranty or at least until your phone settles in n you know it has no problems, mine after 2 months speaker gave up and headphone jack stopped working so had to send it off was so pleased I hadn't voided my warranty

If you like gaming you must root as there is a gaming boost app made by hamdir and mwilky that improve the gaming a lot and there are kernel with oc GPU that help but sadly these are just for a ICS.

^^^ Not necessarily true, a lot of the time HTC repair center's will turn a blind eye to the phone if it's rooted as a lot of users have verified now, read the threads.
---
@ OP- I'd stay stock for a while mate, as said here before, OTA's are just around the corner, if, after that you still feel curious just root it and install ARHD, that way you'll still have the stock experience and it won't be too much of a culture shock for you.
AND Then if you still feel curious flash customer kernels and mods etc...
Baby steps bro...
You can use my thread (check my sig) to root the phone, then stop there once rooted and then use this JB Flasher Tool to make getting onto JB easier for you.
Thanks alot guys! Since OTA is just around the corner figure i'd wait for that. But as far as issues goes so none whatsoever infact the battery is been surprisingly been on par with s3 or iphone 4s.
Do non-sense roms have the same aggressive memory management that the stock rom has? I'm going to wait for the JB update, but if it still kills apps quickly like stock ICS does, I might go with a custom ROM.
It's REALLY annoying when I open a 3rd (gasp!) app, and when I pop back to the first, it has to completely reload. Mostly annoying when that app is a browser page.

That'll always happen with multitasking, HTC muffed up the multitasking so it isn't what I'd call 'true' multitasking. It'll mostly need to reload the app.
I think Hamdir wrote a good thread on how to counter that with some script changes, try asking him?
I don't think the aggressive memory management is down to HTC Sense per se I think it's an Android thing? Again that'd need verification.
Root can be handy to have. The most obvious use is backup, if you want to make sure your app data (for those apps that still insist on using phone storage for data/savegames) and settings are covered. But I've personally had a few "needs root" things pop up now.
It's worth at least unlocking the bootloader sooner rather than later in case you ever do decide you want root, because when you do the unlock it wipes your phone. Better to go through re-setting it up early rather than having to wipe it later when you have loads of stuff on it.
On the other hand it voids warranty, and they can tell even if you re-lock the device as it will permanently say "re-locked". If you have a hardware fault you can probably pull some sort of consumer protection law thing on them, but you need to be aware that they'll probably fight it tooth and nail and claim that your warranty is "Void. Period." People's experiences are well documented in the warranty thread.
My approach was to wait a month and not get too settled-in with my data/apps/etc during that month. A really high percentage of hardware faults with any device or machine show up within the first month* so after that I felt comfortable enough to take the plunge.
* (The month thing is known as the breaking-in period... I work for an electronics manufacturer and one thing they offer is doing the break-in testing in-house before even shipping to the customer. At a fairly high price of course)
Noup. If u ask about it, u shouldnt root hox.
Stay away from rooting things.
Yes bro... Why not?
SkyDragon Sense Rom V1
Well,
if you agree that you may loose warranty, let me tell you why I always root my phones..
- to delete all crappy applications (stock, soundhound, carriers app...)
- to be able to install some cleaning app which needs root (game cheats, ad cleaners ...)
- to change Roms and find the one I need (in fact I change every week )
- many, many others usefull things...
By the way, i already return old phones to sellers, they were repaired, even with unlocked bootloaders & root. Maybe I was lucky

I totally agree with you. I just hate those crappy apps. It's like buying a notebook full of bloatware and not being able to remove it! I'm sure that is not cool LOL. Besides that, I think Titanium Backup Pro is a must, and it only works on rooted phones.

Yes, Titanium Backup is The Must.
My Favorites are, as said below, Titanium (pro) , Nova Launcher (with root), Lucky Patcher, and of course Adfree.
Usually, as soon as I get a new phone (having 3 now : DHD, Sensation, One X... Nexus 4 coming) or Tablet (Xoom wifi MZ604, Nexus 7) , I root it after having unlocked it.
I can't stand having some lags & freez screens on devices.
So should you root ?
Maybe you should see with some friends of yours or some relatives that owns some rooted HOX. Of course, before unlocking and footing your device, make sure your device is working good, have no problems.

[Q] old man old phone old roms? help Please!

ok Hi everyone!
no i do not have ADO (Attention deficit order) or any other brain dissorder! just old slow and feeble!
i got the HTC EVO 4G my two year contract with the sprint WOGS is up about two months ago my phone died and best buy got me a brand new one!
then i see that new samsung galaxy note 2 and ooooowww
So my old brain kicks in and says mod your evo
ok at this point
so i rooted mt evo 4g with HTCDEV and revolutionary some how i ended up installing revolutionary but the phone still works
but yes i did not do a backup of the original system on the phone!!
well i am now thinking since i am rooted and s-off abot a custom ROM??
ok this is were the old man comes in
i only wish do do this once and most of you all here it seems do this every day as a type of hobby
what i would like to find in a custom ROM is everthing to work as the phone works now but hopefully even better
and to get rid of all this BS poopwear sprint has loaded into this phone
a ROM that looks great and new and as stable as stock?? with maybe some new apps to play with
So the Question is? Is there a ROM out here filled with the above???
Question 2
when you root a phone and s-off then do a custom rom, does sprint know what you have done or can they find out
and if so can they mess with you or bug you??
no i do not see men in black everywere!
just have seen post about watermarks and sprint knows! just was hoping to get the truth here!
I will start with your second question. The only way Sprint will know is if you have to take it on for service. So no worries there.
As far as a ROM goes there are many solid, stable, fully working roms. You will be limited to the older gingerbread roms. All the newer ones lack drivers for front camera and Wimax (4g). Now to find what you want will take searching on your part. There are a few different versions of sense which is HTC's launcher and then you have AOSP which looks completely different. When I get on a computer I will give you some links to check out.

Since you have been using the EVO for a few years and are used the the Sense UI I would recommed
starting out with The Classic. A very solid ROM by tommytomatoe. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312414
So many out there, all great, most of devs remove all the crap when we buid the roms guess it comes down to what you like.
You like stock, or themes,

Sorry if i sound like a dumb ass
i have gone to alot of web sites trying to dig all the info in can from the words i can make sence from!
i am not here to beat no one up or down!! i had asked help from one site when i went to root my phone
and was kind of kick for being a noob and asking a question the guy thought everyone should have known!
that is why i am here! i am sure you all have looked at other web sites about all this rooting around and roms.
what you all do in customizing the cell phones is ??? really i do not have a better word GREAT!! (each generation has there own words and phrases, and sometimes we have to teach the old people like are parents the new stuff that has come out)
i would say this i am like all of you! but way older i think and definitely not any way near as smart as you all are here
as to stock or theme? i take it theme is the way the new rom will look??
i will say this as the way for the last 2 years looking at my phone well im borrrred with it
if it had a big pair of breast attached to it well i would not be here "SORRY LADIES!!!"
so yes new looking and way better to play with! STOCK ? no i had that
stable is my concerne with a new rom as once i do the flash (flahing the rom) to the phone i do not want to have to worry about this software to fix this bug or that bug then digging up this file to get this or that to work!
does this make any sence to you all??
ok an old man would think (sorry if im wrong here!!) if one was to install a new rom on ????phone all that would be needed
would be one file! do the vol. and power button go to revolutionary install zip file from sd card wait and poof your done!!
ya ya what joint is that old fart smoking!!!
AGAIN THANKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP HERE
Classic.
Maybe Synergy if you don't care about CIQ.
I ran AlterROM for awhile: it might be in your comfort zone and it provides a ton of installation options if you want to explore a little.
But really just start with Classic. The "updater" app included with Classic may need some kind of fix , read the last few pages of that thread to get current.
Have fun!

what you all do in customizing the cell phones is ??? really i do not have a better word GREAT!!

Definitely go with classic. It was my first rom and I fell in love with it. Great battery life, has themes, and is very smooth.

HTC EVO 4G yup the old phone
Ok i will jump in here and do the ROM] The Classic v0.1.0 - finale
and i will download the ]TN_Elousions_3_Rooted_latest_OTA_5.07.651.6_supers onic_Deoxed_2/19/1
and try that one later
so my dumb old man question is now
1 do the vol down and power
since i have revolutionary installed i go to recovery then the revolutionary screen pops up and from that i chose install zip file from sd card
and that is it?? or do i do the same for both files this one v0.1.0p3 Supermagic Finale and this one classic.cx entry
from this web page http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1312414
or is this more over my head
The Tn elousions 3 is stock I have not done anything with that yet other then deoxing it.
My elousions 2.2.2 is the trixed out one. Just to let you no.
Don't forget to wipe dalvic and dalvic cache
Better yet wipe everything except SD card.
Make a nandroid backup before you do anthing.

HTC EVO 4G yup the old phone
well i did the classic rom
the first time i flashed it and it all loaded up anything to do with the internet would not work
thought maybe i got a bad download from this crappy satellite hughes.net system we are on
so i redownloaded it again and wee hee it all works!!!
just wished the bottom screen buttons had some kind of lay out like the evo 4g did
phone, apps, etc.
i will run this and see what happens i hope no bugs pop up
ya and you are right there is alot of do-hickies added to this!
i just hope i do not mess something up now
if he had put in the butttons for the phone, apps, etc
from my stand point this rom would be the greatist
but it is my first rom i have flashed so who knows maybe there is one that is better out there!!!
I would like too THANK YOU ALL!!! Very much for your GREAT WORK HERE!! and your help with me on this venture!!!
THANKS ALLOT!!
Bill
Haha actually I agree with you, I was never a fan of what Tommy called the "Ghost Rosie". Ironically it's one of the things that really distinguishes the ROM and it took a lot of work for him to make it do that.
Anyway I'm pretty sure you can "turn off" that feature and bring back a always-visible phone button, either by a tweak (changing a setting that Tommy provided in some control panel somewhere) or via a mod (some flashable zip that modifies that Rosie).
Or you can always download a custom launcher from the market.

ok Hi everyone!
no i do not have ADO (Attention deficit order) or any other brain dissorder! just old slow and feeble!
i got the HTC EVO 4G my two year contract with the sprint WOGS is up about two months ago my phone died and best buy got me a brand new one!
then i see that new samsung galaxy note 2 and ooooowww

The jelly bean roms are not filled with bloat ware, they come with the apps needed for a root user to do the right things. Plus they are pretty stable at this point, just minor things that don't work, except it would be nice if we could get 4G Wimax back on the latest roms. Front facing camera just needs a driver as well as Wimax, but I do not miss those things as I am connected to wifi mostly.
