Hi, i want the best GSM Xperia play for me, i will only use 2G so it could be any of this 3 (R800I, R800A or R800AT), so i got this questions:
1) Wich one is the one to get the new firmwares released the faster?
2) Does the R800I and R800A have bloatware?
3) Is there any system perfomance diffference between any of this 3, maybe specific firmware release (If so wich one is better)?
3) Wich version has the best or less buggy firmware i know they change a bit between models.
Before knowing the answer i think this:
Im leaning towards the R800I because i think is the better one because so far i believe (but dont know if im right):
- isn't carrier dependant and doesn't has bloatware (the R800A is like this too but more expensive).
- Since its international maybe it gets faster and more firmwares update since they are released by sony instead of a phone carrier.
- The R800AT has att screens and logos and the R800I has sony branded logos and stuff instead.

Anyone have the new Arc on Orange?
Is it Orange branded? How much Orange software/games demos have they loaded it with and can you remove them?
Thanks in advance!
dude orange cripple their fones with the crap they stick on them which you cannot remove unless you root, im leaving them this month to get the arc on a diff carrier, but if you want to stay with orange my best advice would be to upgrade or get it via carphonewarehouse, phones4u or mobiles.co.uk, that way the handset comes unlocked and has no bloatware from manufacturers and will have firmware as its ment to be therefore will get updates far quicker
or reflash to the decrypted ROM in the development section

+1 on that.. always better to go unbranded - you will get more updates and quicker too..
well I had no problems reflashing my ROM on my Xperia X10 and I never rooted it. You just need to use the flash tool that is also in the Development section

SE have stated simlocked arcs will have locked boot loaders whereas sim free ala cpw p4u and mobiles.co.uk ones will all have unlocked or unlockable bootloaders which opens up the phone for further advancement with the devs
Thanks all for the comments.
I need to order via Orange - I have a couple of contracts with them and am due for upgrade. None of the retailers can get close to what they have offered me.
I currently have an Orange branded Desire - hence my original question.
I dont really want to flash it (yet) - so back to my original question;
Does anyone actually have an Orange branded Arc and what have they loaded on to it?

bit too early for people who buy direct from orange, the reason is that they havent released it yet... officially, i think its only available for upgrades right now
Orange stores were selling them from last Friday.
OK - well I'll have my Orange supplied Arc with me tomorrow.
So I'll report back and share the love (info) !
I'm waiting for one as well
the guy on the phone told me it should not be sim locked and branding is questionable, since Gingerbread is new, there's possibility it's not yet branded - only the startup logo..
let's see if it's truth

No way in he(( it's not branded. If you get it through the carrier, it's definitely got the branding!
I should have it today, will keep you posted
if it's branded, I will return it - I didn't mess with flashing yet, don't want to crash my phone ?
ok, finally got mine from Orange (Slovakia)
and the guy was right !!
no logo on chassis
no startup Orange screen
no Orange custom icons
no Orange menu
NOTHING !! It was worth, I saved 300€
Update:
Branded as expected...
-Boot screen
-Orange App Shop
-Orange Backup
-Orange Games
-Homescreen selector (choose between Orange and SE)
-Orange Maps
-Orange Plus
-Orange TV
-Orange Wednesday
-Orange Photo Upload
-Your Orange
Also has some games demos, but I suspect they might have been put on by SE - I was able to uninstall them.
In the (Orange branded) box:
-Arc (with Orange logo on rear) & battery
-USB cable/mains charger
-2 x screen protectors (1 fitted to the screen, 1 spare)
-8GB card (was already installed in the phone)
-Earphones
-HDMI cable
I presume this is SIM locked too... but what's the quickest/easiest way of telling?
(I only have Orange SIM cards in my household!)
FYI - This is Orange UK
wow... so I guess I got lucky - I heard they are going to brand Orange SK as well, but it takes time since Gingerbread's new (Froyo is branded here)

Find a mate that's on a different network and borrow their SIM?
@discos7u,
I'm interested to hear how the Orange-branded version seems to work. What have they nobbled?
Presumably there's no (wifi) tethering available (which I understand the unbranded versions have got)?
[I can probably then justify to myself that it's worth shelling out the extra cash for an unbranded version!]
Cheers!

I upgraded my Orange contract from CPW last week, free phone on £30 pm contract. Ordered the phone last Thursday, delivered at home Friday. CPW are the only ones stocking the silver one which I think looks much better than the black/blue one.

In a different thread, a member contacted Sony and it was stated that Sony USA had no (official) plan yet to release the handset in the US. The Play will be released with Verizon this summer tho.
On an unrelated note, I wish Sony would not *****-out in front of the carriers and would offer their own phones in Sony stores like they do with every other products. Maybe they will do so in the future, the ARC have only been recently released after all...
Sony Ericsson.. not Sony.. that's why you can't buy them in the Sony stores!

The Xperia ARC/Play will be sold in Sony stores in Canada starting April 27. They will be Rogers branded/locked tho.
They need to start selling the vanilla unbranded handset ...

I spoke to SE Canada today and they mentioned that unlocked versions of the Arc would be available from PureMobile.ca in a couple of weeks. He also mentioned that unlocked versions would be available from Amazon (but did not give a timeframe).

Cannot figure out why they havent released the arc in white, i think it'd look pretty damn good in white.
Just buy a LT15i. I got one and its working perfectly on T-Mobile USA, calls, text, data, everything.
And what data speeds do you get?
Because the Arc doesn't support T-Mobile US's 1700MHz band.
Oh, that I don't know, but my facebook app and others load in a perfectly reasonable amount of time. I'd test it but I only have a 200 mb data plan. My precious 6mb a day. xD

According to unknown13x, who has some insider info, the Arc will not come to the USA (on AT&T probably) until August/September due to supply shortage from Japan.
You can see his post here.
unknown13x said:
Initially the arc was bounded for AT&T, however, last I heard was that all LT15a's production was halted and shifted to LT15i due to the tsunami that hit Japan, destroying the main manufacturing facility. The only batch of LT15a made went to Rogers, so I don't know if they'll continue to get the stocks since there's more LT15i demand. All I know is it's very unlikely that it will be released anytime soon. More like Late Q3 or Q4, but by that time....there's going to be something else...

I thought they said the US market was important to them. Why are they waiting so long? I agree, they are going to lose market share, and ask "Why?" They better get it together soon, or else they will be a non-issue like Nokia.

Have had my Xperia Arc for a few months, just updated to 2.3.4. Makes the phone feel new again. But 512MB of RAM blows! Have to keep either clearing the phone's cache or delete applications. And the Arc s isn't any better.
I did notice it is H+, faster "faux" G.

Tmobile version vs internaltional version?
Guys,
Im planning to buy galaxy note 2 no commitment handset but im confused which one to go for. They are same priced. Since i came to US in fall 2011 i have never used a US locked phone. Im currently using htc hd2 (the legend).
My question is if i buy att phone and then unlock it will flashing new roms etc still be a problem compared to international version. Do they provide only a code to unlock the phone or a complete new rom to flash which removes att bootloader and drivers and makes it like an international version. The only difference i guess is about warranty and lte radio between the two variants. I do not care about lte radio since im mostly connected to wifi but i care a little aboutthe warranty.
Some questions might be stupid since im new to this us version phones so im sorry about it.
Thanx in advance for replying

I unlocked bootloader, rooted, and changed the ROM.
but, When i go to one of the DOCOMO shop (Japan) (because i want to use sony xperia ZL c6503 instead of s3 alpha) they said that there should be a japanese licence certification under the settings-> about phone -> legal information.
and i didn't have that on my ZL.idk if the rooting that cause it to disappear... so anyone knows how to get that back?
or at least a way that i can fake the license because i really want to use the ZL here.
i know that it supports the same center frequency (2100 MHz) (http://developer.sonymobile.com/2013/01/24/lte-coverage-for-xperia-smartphones/)
or is there any other way i could use DOCOMO sim with Xperia ZL?
Hello just had a quick question. Considering buying this phone due to the insane battery life and wanted to know which version I should buy if I wanted to install custom ROMs. Would the Moto z play droid version from verizon allow me to install ROMs? I'm guessing no because its Verizon, and their phones are usually locked (boot loader wise) but just wanting to make sure. Or would I need the international gsm version?

There are 3 versions of the Z Play, all with the initial ID prefix of XT1635:
-01- Verizon, locked Bootloader
-02- International/GSM, BL unlock capable
-03- Chinese, BL unlock capable but set as RETCN and lacking many US bands.
I almost purchased an XT1635-03 off of Gearbest/Banggood because it was only $250 USD, but turns out while it can be used with custom ROMs it's missing quite a few crucial network bands for use in the US.
Just waiting for the X4 release/fall sales and will probably snag a Z Play for cheap.
