wimax no longer working - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

so here's the deal, I've been using blazer 4.0 and everything is great. I have always had wimax and so these last two days I've been tethering my phone to my ps3 (battlefield 3) and so today all of a sudden it doesn't work anymore. I called Sprint and no help, back to stock nothing, rooted again and tried this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447615 but no luck. I changed the "realm" to clearwire and my 4g connected but obviously took me to a clearwire page that asked me to purchase a plan. I've used 8gb this month and I know for a fact my 4g radio works...any ideas ? please guys just try and help.

I have the same issue today. Phone runs stock rom, no root no tether. And today I can't pick up any 4G signal. Don't know the reason.

Maybe theres an outage? Where are you guys?

I'm in West Covina CA but no it can't be an outage because my brothers ns4g connects fine

I though I was the only one with this issue. Charlotte, NC here

I know this is going to sound backwards, but I live in Long Beach, CA and I couldn't get anything but 4G service, my 3G was always on 1x and terribly slow. That has been since Monday, then yesterday evening updated my PRL and both went back to normal or I got my 3G back. But 4G was the only thing that was working.....
I'm also running Phantom 4.0 btw

This maybe a long shot but there was a lot of solar activity that was messing around with electronics. It could be possible that the radios on our phones are more susceptible to this introduction of noise then others. If the phone isn't behaving better today or tomorrow then the problem is likely something else.

My 4G connectivity has been coming in fine until it became non existent since yesterday. Not really sure why, but doing a bunch of resets doesn't help for me as well. The 4G indicator comes on, but no signal bars appear. Hmmm...
Oh, and I'm in Ontario, CA. SoCal tower down perhaps?

We were in a major solar storm yesterday, it may have had an effect on the towers and/or some of our phones. Try updating prl and profile, see if that works. I'm in Seattle and no problem here but I just got my E4GT so I was flashing and checking out different roms all day.

Thanks guys, even if the solar storm interupted my connection then why do it connect to clearwire? It has to be Sprint and I'm not paying for them to check out my phone when clearly they're the ones controlling it

OMG i just started a thread about this.... I thought i was the only one. My gf with an OG Epic connects fine.....my 4g stopped connecting about yesterday...
Forgot to mention I also have a verizon 4g aircard from work and it was working beautifully today with no slow downs or problems

Follow-up from my initial response...
I called Sprint tech support and they had me do the basic pull the battery, reset the phone exercises, but nothing worked. They told me that there was no outage in my area (SoCal) so they escalated me to the 4G team (Tier 2 support).
After about an hour of going through the same exercises, the tech support person opened up a ticket and mentioned that he's been noticing a lot of complaints today of the same issue. He also mentioned something about "dual mode services" not provisioning. Not really sure what that meant, but he told me that he doesn't think it's a hardware issue, but a Sprint side issue which he thinks should be resolved in the next day or two. Regardless, he created a ticket anyway to take with me to the Sprint store if I decide to get it checked out sooner than later.
I guess I'll wait a day (or two) to see if it resolves itself. I'll follow-up with another post if anything tangible happens within this time.

The dual mode comment might refer to the fact that our phones are dual mode-wimax and LTE, from what I understand sprint is going LTE around June or July. Or at least that's what the manager of the store I bought my E4GT at said.

I live in the Hacienda Heights CA, and work at La Punte, city of Industry. I called sprint today, tried to update my prl and profile, but it still doesn't work. Maybe I can wait the sun storm pass out.

Ok ok, here's what happened. This problem started Thursday morning and so after doing the battery pull and blah blah blah I finally went to a Sprint store early Friday morning. While waiting for a tech I notice two e4gt on display so like anyone would went over and tested 4g on them, nothing...tried the og epic and without a problem it connected. I told the tech and he pulled out his e4gt and same thing...nothing so I called tech support today and told them and they startdd a ticket saying they would have a tech check it out...i later called and the tech said "oh there's an outage in your area" but I don't know because Sprint employees aren't always very consistent. I think it might have to do with our dual band but I did ##data# and changed the realm to clearwire.wmx.net and connected to 4g like nothing but when i set it to sprintpcs.com it disconnects so I am beyond confused

Update:
As of this AM, my 4G is still toast. However, on my way from Ontario, CA to LAX, my phone locked into a 4G signal around the Downey area (105 fwy). I figure this issue isn't due to my phone crapping out on me. So I placed another call into tech support and they just confirmed with me that the towers around my area are down and they apparently have engineers working on getting them back up. ETA for a fix is 6PM tomorrow. 3/11.

I live in SE TX near Galveston island but im on mainland. I have 4G where I live even though it's not included in the coverage map. I usually get 1 bar inside my house and it works fairly well. Occassionally my 4G will not connect no matter what I do. It goes out for several hours and will start connecting again by early morning. It has done this several times but I really can't complain because according to Sprint, WiMax isn't supposed to be available in my city. But anyways this seems to be caused by either maintanance/upgrades or possibly cloud coverage/solar interference. It always works again after a few hours of downtime. This is my experience.

I'm in San Bernardino about 20 minutes from you. My 4g has been completely gone for the last 2 days as well. At my house near Cal State, it's been perfect since June 4, 2010 (original evo release date) and only now has it ever gone out like this. Very frustrating as I rely on it a lot since the 3g at my house is virtually non-existent. Shoot me a PM if you get a signal or hear anything from sprint. Thanks.

Permanent LOS? Reboot/Batt pull/Flashing doesn't help

I woke up today w/ the dreaded zero slash on my signal bar. I've been flashing like a maniac today and doing constant soft/hard boots. We also had a major snowstorm today in Jersey. So I'm not sure if this is really a faulty tower on Sprint's end or a real LOS. I've tried everything so far except a factory data wipe. BTW, I apologize in advance for being another LOS question.
I just talked to sprint and the towers are disabled due to the snowstorm. I live in North NJ btw. If this was any other phone I prob wouldn't think of LOS bug, lol. I went all crazy for nothin!
I live in North Jersey also and my phone is getting no signal at all. It's been like the whole day. I used an app called Roam Control (PAID) and I still get no service. I have 5 lines on my account and my GF and her mom have a Nexus S's and they aren't getting service. My GF's cousin is using an Evo Shift and his is working fine.
Is it a coincidence that the phones that aren't working g are made by Samsung? I'm on wifi now and have been all day. It's very frustrating and I will be calling for a credit.
My AT&T line has service and has had it all day.

4G Shows Connected but no internet

Does any one have experience with this issue. 4G will connect and it says active, but internet connection wont work at all for any app, browser, youtube, etc. It will work fine when I switch back to 3G.
yeah it happens alot. its seems after 4g goes dormant, apps have difficulty accessing it even tho it shows connected.
There is a thread floating around that has tweaked wimax settings to prevent it from happening
I am having the same problem on mine. However it seems permanent. I am ready to return the phone to sprint. Even when it first connects it can not access the internet.
Mines seems to be a permanant one also. Not a dormant issue, shows active even reboot and reconnect nothing is working right now about to head to sprint store.
I notice that you're located in Boston. This is currently an issue that a lot of people in Boston (myself included) have been experiencing since the 17th. I've called Sprint numerous times about it, but none of the reps I've spoken to knew anything about the issue. There's currently a thread about it on the Sprint forums, but I can't post the link since I don't have enough posts. Just Google "4G Connection Issue - Boston 11.17.2011".

Yep, I was in Boston all last week and starting the 17th I could connect to 4G but had no actual data. I thought it was a problem with my phone but as soon as I got home to Chicago I had no issues with 4G.

Thanks, just found that out coming back from the Sprint Store all of their 4G phones were having the same problem. Argh unroooted and remove stuff for nothing haha.
Glad I read this. I am in Boston now and wondering wtf is going on. I was about to try to flash my phone back to stock.

I live in boston and I just got the phone on saturday and was wondering why i coudnt get 4g, the sales rep (whome was a close friend of mine) said it might have been because of the weak signal inside the building so i checked outside and still had no connection. I flashed to starbursts rom and still had no 4g even though it showed 4 bars. was going to unroot and return the phone today but i guess not!

It's back up now I think, but I do feel like I got the run around with the call center saying there was no report of outage in my area and I wasted time driving to a sprint center with a reference trouble ticket all for nothing.
I'm not too far from boston, Yet right now Not only is my 4G messed up but I now no longer have any 3G, roaming only at this point.

4G/3G signal finally fixed on my phone

Hey guys I'm completely new here as a member. But over the past month or two I've been reading on XDA to see Q & A's about the Galaxy Nexus.
So I bought this phone on launch day after going through massive hell to be able to even purchase one. Long story short went to 3 different stores back and forth and at the end of the night, GOT ONE.
I've been having the huge signal issues with the phone like everyone else since Day 1. The issues with the 3G/4G switching off, extremely poor reception, stuck on 2G (calls/text only) and a lot of times, not having a signal at all!
So after looking on the forum, I decided I'd wait it out and not root my phone/update to 4.0.3/update radios, etc. I've also talked to Verizon Reps over the phone and they wouldn't really help me out. I've gotten so frustrated with the phone that I almost wanted to return it and get a Rezound or Razr JUST to be able to have a 4G signal.
YESTERDAY THOUGH, I spoke to a 2nd Level Tech Support person and we went through all the steps the 1st Level Tech did and what not to make sure I had my Data Connection on, battery pull, LTE/CDMA on and not CDMA only, etc. you get the point. One of the other things she told me to do was to make sure in the Mobile Network Settings that Data Roaming was checked. I told her that it wasn't because it said that I will incur charges and what not. She told me as long as I'm in the United States, with it checked, I won't receive any extra charges. It's only if you leave the United States to a different country.
I asked her why should it be checked out of curiosity and she said that by having it checked, it searches for any and all towers around you instead of trying to be locked on one or something like that. So I did that. After, she told me it probably won't work to get 4G signal yet because of the LTE Power Outage that was going on the same time I was on the phone with her.
Well later last night the LTE Power Outage was fixed and starting last night I started seeing 3-4 Bars or -82 to -96 dBm continuously. Well waking up this morning for work and throughout the entire day today, I've been getting a consistent 4G signal (with 3G coming on for 3-5 minutes about two times, then back to 4G) My speedtest results were great. Getting 16-23 mbps with my 4G signal in Orange County, California (Piggy backing off of LA).
Now I have no idea if it was 3 things. The Power Outage coming back on fixed it, the new extended battery fixed it (haha joking) or the fact that I turned on Data Roaming fixed it by connecting to all towers near me. Either way I've been completely happy since last night and all day today with it working. I literally lost signal once and it was for a good 5 seconds lol then went back to 4G.
Has anyone else turned on their Data Roaming or has seen their signal start to work after the LTE Outage? Let me know. Because I know that I didn't update the software to 4.0.3 or any other software update on it.
Thanks everyone and I hope all the Nexus phones' signals get fixed soon!!! This phone is completely amazing but without signal, it's like a paperweight.
Having to turn on data roaming to increase signal seems like bollocks to me. It would be interesting to try turning it off and check if you see any difference, now that the shortage is over.

Yeah I'm not sure what fixed my phone but its now fixed. I'm getting full bars of 4G as I'm typing this. Did you check the Roaming Data and did a soft reset to see if that worked?

so wouldn't "roaming" mean that if you're in an area where verizon's towers aren't sending out a good signal, you'll pick up on sprint's towers if they're stronger?...
I believe so. Or something close to that. The rep said that I would only get roaming charges if I go out of the US with the Roaming check marked.
She's the one that told me I should get a better signal with Roaming check marked in. Then after the outage 2 days ago, that night, my signal was working and I was getting a constant 4G signal with good strength.

Just turned this on at work and went from one bar of 4G to three. Don't know if it is a fluke or placebo, but a difference.
Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. Back down to one. I'll wait til I get outside. Don't have the strongest signal in this building anyway.

@OP where in orange county?? I live in HB.. my signal is not that great there.. but in Irvine its full bars.. I never really had an issue to my knowledge at least.. may give your method a try at home to see if my sig improves.
I live in Garden Grove and Anaheim. But I'm constantly traveling throughout OC on an ambulance for work from Whittier all the way to San Clemente. So my signal ranges.
Funny you say that because I usually get horrible signal in Irvine on the 5 or 405 freeway. Haha.
Yeah I would try the roaming checked. Do a sim pull, battery pull, and see if it works. I assume that's what worked for me.

Anyone having horrible sprint service this week?

Hi guys, I'm sure many feel the service generally sucks everyday but I feel over the last week it's Ben horrible. I've had days of trying to send text messages, of dialing and waiting over a minute for the phone to start ringing, of 1x data speed with full bars. If you have had an upswing of issues like this please let me know. My girlfriend and I have both been having problems, and yesterday we talked with a lady in the city south of us, where she said she'd had such problems alot this last week. Just interested, no solutions here, but maybe it will let us know if we can push sprint to credit our way. Stop charging me for 4g there isn't any here!

working for them ill tell you no they wont credit you back for your lack of service. You are more than welcome to try. But if you are having service issues try updating you profile then your PRL. If that doesnt work try doing ##72786# youll need to get you MSL (Call CS to get it or most stores will give it to you.)
They're probably upgrading towers near you in their network vision. Happened to my friend where he couldn't send texts or call for a while. Google "sprint network upgrades " and look at the first link and it'll show you their network upgrades in your area.

I think sprint is sucks all together for service. I came from att like 4 months ago cause they didnt have 4g at the time and i really wanted 4g. I was told wimax was fast. What i wasent told is in az they dont have wimax. So i got a 4g phone for nothing. Im kinda pissed. Thinking about going to verision cause there speeds are off the chain without doing this and that to get them better.

Good luck with those Tier data plans. $69 for talk + $20 for text + $30-80 for data or whatever it is and the $400 deposit. Plus not to mention all the total data outages theyve been having. God Speed Sir.
I've been having terrible sprint network issues this week. So bad that I've called them twice. They tell me each time that a tower is down/being upgraded in my area. I've installed the 00002 PRL on my wife's and my phones until they get their **** figured out. IDK if I believe them that they are upgrades as I was told it should be fixed by Saturday afternoon and its Monday and they still have issues. Once a day I switch back to the 60685 PRL and check reception. I'm not talking just data either... its voice calls as well. 30-60 seconds to change from "dialing" to ringing and when it does its roaming. Hopefully they fix it soon.
Yeah in LA area i have been getting less bars than i usually get. And dats speeds have gone from 1.4 mbps to 200kbps

I've had inconsistent service for the last month; that's how long I have been working in New Orleans. Perhaps it is due to negative elevation but who knows.
Early in the week I had a lot of texts that said not sent. It was quite annoying. Also the same with calls taking 10 seconds or so to actually connect. I think it may be improving a bit, but not back to 100%. I'm in los angeles as well. On a side note, i've been trying 4g around my area and i've gotten up to 9mbits. In my home its on and off, but better than it used to be.

Last week I called sprint about my terrible service. They told me that they were doing upgrades in the area and that some towers would be down in the meantime. If you go on their site, they have a map of areas they are gonna be working on or are currently working on.
i just got the Epic 4G Touch yesterday and the data speed is horrendous!
i blame the inrush of iPhone users to Sprint.

Sprint GNEX with no 3G data

Since I got my phone a few hours ago I have not been able to get and keep a 3g signal. Tech support says its a network issue. Will wait to see if things change. Anyone else having this issue?

Yes I was having the same problem with my galaxy nexus I received on Friday...it would not connect to the data network and would show an error code 600 when I tried to update the profile or prl. Tech support deemed it defective so I sent it back and am waiting for another device.

I had exact same issue with my pre-ordered nexus. Got it on Friday and it never had a 3G connection... well there was a couple of times it came on then went away when I tried using the web.
I talked with 3 different tech support agents for over 2 hours combined and they couldn't get it going. Even went to a sprint repair store on Saturday and they couldn't do anything. Finally, I called sales and they sent out a replacement. Got that in today and it works fine.

My been working fine so far, phone works great make sure you got CDMA radio only on , I was messing with that and for some reason 3G didn't work till I changed it back
I got my 3g data to work for 15 mins. Now its gone again. Damn Sprint!
I am having horrible data speeds thinking about taking it back. I love the phone other than the data speeds.
And that tower you see, it is a Sprint tower.
I received my gnex earlier today and have experienced the same error.
I'll see 3g appear for a minute... then its gone.

a hour with a tech on the phone. he put in a network ticket saying it wasn't related to my device
but something going on with the network.
i'm considering ESN swapping back to my epic 4g.
I'm so glad I don't have this problem on mine. I just got it today and it's working great so far. My boss bought a Verizon GNex a couple of weeks ago and had this very same issue. He took it back and got the RAZR Maxx. I don't blame him since I watched his Nexus' data go in and out every minute or so. It's a great phone if it works properly. Wish you all luck with getting the problem resolved.
