Last time I tried to flash ICS, I got a data partition error and hard bricked my phone. How can I safely get ICS on my phone? I want to try Blend ICS but first I need to flash ICS right? Should I Odin sfhub's stock rooted ICS? If someone could shed some light on how to change to ICS it would be appreciated. I'm currently running Blazer 4.1

I hope this helps.
I found this on the second post of the BLEND ICS in the dev forum. Good luck.
DETAILED FLASHING INSTRUCTIONS FOR 1ST TIME USERS
You will want these items available on your sdcard...
-BLEND ICS v1.7
-BLEND ICS v1.7 Update Zip
-Rogue FB27 Kernel/Recovery
-FC05 Modem
-Mobile Odin from Market (Optional)
Now You Are Ready to Begin the Flash Process...
-Boot to your Current Recovery and do a Nandroid
-Wipe Cache
-Flash the rogue FB27 Kernel/Recovery.
-Wipe Cache
-Flash the FC05 Modem [Also included in the ROM, but doesn't always seem to stick after flashing]
-Wipe Cache
-Flash Calks Wipe all Zip 2 or 3 Times
-Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache 2 or 3 Times Each
-Flash BLEND ICS v1.7
-Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache
-Flash v1.7 Update Zip [Stock for Stock Gapps, Inverted for Inverted Gapps]
-Boot up and Enjoy
**A couple things to note, you will have FC05 Stock Kernel after flashing the Rom, If You want recovery, you need to wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache and Flash the Rogue FB27 Kernel/Recovery again after flashing everything else. Otherwise have the Tar and Odin available to get your recovery back. Some folks have been using the Stock Recovery, but I don't mess with it.
EDIT:
PS... Looks like he will have a new version up tonight. I would recommend waiting and trying the updated version tomorrow. Looks like it will have CWM on it so recovery would be much easier.
Starting from Caulkin's 2.9 ROM (my DD for now..),
-Make a nandroid
- I copy the nandroid to my PC, just in case. (dropbox for double safety)
-If the ICS rom you want to install is a tar, use Odin to flash that ROM.
-if Not, flash a Stock rooted ICS leak tar
-use auto root and install recovery
-flash the zip via recovery
-Use the autoroot tool to root + install recovery (if you didn't just do that)
To go back to GB,
-Flash a GB ROM via Odin (I just use the stock ROM)
-use autoroot to gain root and recovery
-recover your nandroid
-????
-profit!
This procedure has not failed me yet.
I don't know why but I just feel better using Odin to move between GB and ICS. ymmv
Thanks a lot! What happens if I mess up and need to Nandroid back? I believe my brick was caused last time from trying to recover GB from ICS. I had CWM Touch though which may have been why. Does it work if not using Touch?

I'm a noob, so I do apologize for the inconvenience.
I'm currently running mijjz ics blend v2.3. FC14 base, FC07 kernel with recovery (amazing work)
I rooted and added cwm with EL29. (Odin I believe)
I do have a nandroid backup of my EL29, but have read that it is not safe to just boot that up from recovery.
So, I'm just looking for a straight forward answer on fixing the gps with my current setup.
Much thanks to all developers and users that share their knowledge and hard work! Rom is running amazing!
I would like to return to mijjz ics v2.3. made a back up already.
-odin el29 w/ cwm
-nandroid current
-wipe and flash el29 nandroid
-get gps lock
-boot into recovery
-wipe/flash ics nandroid

I'm imagining that I must do full wipes. I use calk's full and modded formats.
Can I still use those as in:
-Odin back to EL29 w/cwm
-nandroid
-wipe cache, wipe delvik, calk's full format
-flash old EL29 nandroid
-get lock
-recovery
-wipe cache, wipe delvik, calk's modded format
-flash ics
Safe?

Sounds safe and has worked for me (and others). I personally only wipe once but I always see everyone saying you should do each wipe three times so you may want to do that. Give it a try and see.
Good luck!

I had great GPS Locks until I rooted to ICS Roms...No problem with GB and any rom on GB...When I went to ICS modem after modem just random locks...Then I tried a GB Rom on ICS...this worked the best...I was usin an EL29 Modem...Today I did the One Click Odin back to stock installed CWM...Gotta lock ...went back to CWM...restored ICS Rom...gotta lock in seconds...without usin WiFi...just GPS Test...Now I'll try drivin with it ansd see what happens...Usually I get the first lock quick...then stop the car go wherever ...return to car fire up GPS...and no lock...the only way to get it back is to reboot...then I get it again in seconds...It drives ya crazy...But like I said when I was on GB...whether Stock or rooted...never had a problem with GPS...ILL SEE WHAT HAPPENS TODAY...
I've been trying to install a new rom on my epic 4g touch and I'm currently running blazer rom 4.0 and trying to try out new roms like calks new 3.0 gb rom but it gets stuck on the boot screen and I tried a fresh Odin from stock and rooted and cwmd but it gets stuck on cwm and even in worst case, it's got rid of my cwm to where I had no choice but to Odin back to stock
Which recovery are you using to flash? If you are using hitman that is your problem. When I tried to flash Blazer 4.0 SAME thing happened to me. Try a different recovery. I have had excellent luck with gunslinger 1.41.
Which ever version rouge 5.0.2.7 is

Alright so you Odin'd back to stock now what I would do is reinstall CWM then flash the Gunslinger kernal then retry. Also when you flash the rom make sure you wipe Cache, delvic cache, wipe data factory reset. Then go to mounts and storage and wipe system. Then flash.

I had the same issue when trying to install blazer 4.1 coming from calks 3.0. The flash would go thru with no errors but wouldn't boot. Then I had to Odin to restore the phone. What worked for me was downloading the blazer from on my pc then sending it over to my phone. Flashed then no problems. Maybe it was a bad download?

Use sfhub's one-click to Oding to Stock EL29 (full reset!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433101. Then use his AutoRoot [ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342728 ]and add CWM+Rogue.
After downloading (and before extracting the zip of course) check the MD5 and make sure you got the full downloads!
This will give a full stock AND a good CWM. Trying to do it any other way is silly in my opinion. Especially with all the bricks.
Then you can boot into recovery and flash away.

Second that! Blazer 4.0 had some new frame work baked in... So a full wipe is needed when switching to and from blazer 4.x
I've used calks format all and haven't had any problems

*do all that then download Calkulins format all zip. go into CWM WIPE EVERYTHING. Run format all. Then flash. You should be good.
I flash the cwm kernel, boot into recovery, wipe, flash rom, flash gapps but no gapps show up when I reboot. I have tried pushing the gapps straight to system/app with no luck.
Every time I attempt to get back into recovery I have to reflash it with Odin and still nothing. I know I need a gingerbread recovery but I'm not sure which to use.
I have looked in tons of threads and most say DO NOT FLASH ROMS WITH THIS RECOVERY!
I know this is noob **** but I use a fassy and am not very familiar with et4g shiz.
P.s. attempted to get her phone running an aosp rom with gapps for over an hour. If someone could give me a quick simple reply with the recovery I need to flash an aosp from and gapps from fe10 let me know.

Flash this Recovery Kernel (EL26 stock CWM) through Odin. http://db.tt/PjcA1HqE
Clear cache, clear Dalvik (under advanced options).
Flash this version of gapps. http://db.tt/y7AI52fM
Flash the desired operating kernel and reboot. You should be good to go.
Good luck!

In case you are still running AOKP or AOSP you can flash this FE10 kernel. It is only compatible with AOSP or AOKP, flash it with anything else and it will give you boot loops.

This is what I do
1. One Click back to EL29
2. Get GPS lock
3. Flash EL29 directboot CWM with Mobile Odin
4. Factory reset, wipe C & DC
5. Flash Rom
6. Flash GAPPS
7. Reboot
8. reboot to Recovery
9 Wipe C & DC
10. Flash Tweaks, modems, 4.2 goodies, etc
11. Reboot
I have never had issues other than a bad rom DL using this method. More experienced users probably skip a step or more along the way, but this has never let me down. No triangles or Flash counts using this way either.

Modem and kernel do not really matter you can change those and flash them any time.
If you are doing a TW ROM make sure you have a custom recovery (If you are stock this is when you would flash a kernel). Usually you would want to run a wipe all type zip or do a wipe in the recovery(If it is a safe recovery) Once you have that flash the ROM. If you are doing an AOSP ROM do the same first step but when you are in recovery flashing the ROM also flash the Gapps.
Once you have that done you can go nuts on whatever tweaks/modems/kernels you would like to mess with.
Why can you use mobile odin for everything/? Like lets say me
About to do a update to my rom (no wipe)
So I can just Flash the Rom (wipe cache and dalvik in mobikle odin) restart
flash gapps mobile odin? right?
Or is this bad idea. I only use mobile odin to flash once before and it worked I lvoed how easy was... was a recovery though not a rom or eta update
If your updating

I want to flash the deodexed LJC stock rom to do the multi window mod hack. The problem is that I don't want to have to re-do everything on my device. Is it possible to just flash the deodexed stock rom over my current root stock rom? I don't think I've ever had to do this on any of my Androids and I have never asked. Any help or answers are definitely appreciated. :good::good::good:
Shouldn't be a problem as current system would be wiped beforehand. Data however wouldn't be touched. I would wipe cache&dalvik-cache before the flash just to be cautious.

I prefer to wipe before and after flashes especially with twrp since it sticks the option right there for u. Somethings I only wipe after flashing tho like system mods and kernels. Going from ljc to ljc deodexed id flash the rom wipe caches and if u were using a custom kernel with stock flash it then wipe caches then fix permissions and reboot. If no kernel skip that step and continue on
So in summary:
1. Flash deodexed ljc
2. Wipe cache and dalvik
*3. Flash kernel
*4. Wipe cache and dalvik
5. Fix permissions
6. Reboot
7. Profit!!
* indicates optional steps
