Q: installing gapps with aokp or codename - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I flash the cwm kernel, boot into recovery, wipe, flash rom, flash gapps but no gapps show up when I reboot. I have tried pushing the gapps straight to system/app with no luck.
Every time I attempt to get back into recovery I have to reflash it with Odin and still nothing. I know I need a gingerbread recovery but I'm not sure which to use.
I have looked in tons of threads and most say DO NOT FLASH ROMS WITH THIS RECOVERY!
I know this is noob **** but I use a fassy and am not very familiar with et4g shiz.
P.s. attempted to get her phone running an aosp rom with gapps for over an hour. If someone could give me a quick simple reply with the recovery I need to flash an aosp from and gapps from fe10 let me know.

Flash this Recovery Kernel (EL26 stock CWM) through Odin. http://db.tt/PjcA1HqE
Clear cache, clear Dalvik (under advanced options).
Flash this version of gapps. http://db.tt/y7AI52fM
Flash the desired operating kernel and reboot. You should be good to go.
Good luck!

In case you are still running AOKP or AOSP you can flash this FE10 kernel. It is only compatible with AOSP or AOKP, flash it with anything else and it will give you boot loops.

[Q] Help flashing ics rom!!!

How do I flash an ics rom on my gingerbread rooted t989???? We never I flash aokp it boot loops! I been out of the loop a while can someone please help me???
Each ICS rom in the development section typically provides flashing instructions specific to the rom. I suggest you find the rom you want to flash and follow instructions in the OP. Keep in mind since you are currently running GB and wish to upgrade to ICS, you will need to flash an IGS radio. General flash instructions are usually as follows:
1. Factory Reset / Wipe Data or flash Darkside Superwipe
2. Flash Radio
3. Flash Rom
4. Reboot
5. Let rom settle for 5-10 mins, Reboot again
6. Enjoy. If you get a boot loop at this point or phone freezes at this point, flash Darkside Cache Wipe (which wipes cache, dalvik cache, and fixes permissions)
There's no special stuff I have to do before is it just like flashing a gb rom???
Same process, nothing special.

[Q] Custom Roms / Kernel Questions

I have a AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-1747) that is running stock with root.
I have rooted my phone using the samsung toolkit located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665
Since that toolkit flashed a CWM Based recovery I have installed ROM Manager and flashed CWM Recovery version 6.0.1.2
My questions are..
- with my current setup.. am I technically running the "Stock" samsung kernel?
- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone?
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?
- At first I was leaning towards flashing CM10 nightly but the more I look at it.. I want to flash PARANOIDANDROID 2.22 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
Is this rom fully compatible with my AT&T phone? and since i'm running stock with root, do I need to do anything special before flashing this rom? Factory reset? Wipe Data? I've already made a full nandroid backup.
Thank you!
- with my current setup.. am I technically running the "Stock" samsung kernel? I believe so
- why would you want to flash a different kernel to your phone? Different kernels do different things.. some have better batter life.. some let you OC and UC..
- and is it necessary to flash a different kernel in order to use certain custom roms?Well sometimes.. Well technically.. most kernels will work with most of the ROMS out there.. as long as you stay withing your phones threads.. But some ROMs have a kernal with them.. and some ROMS you need to flash your own kernel..

Thank you for the reply.
On the rom i'm wanting to flash for my SGH-i747 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818199
The steps for flashing are as follows:
CWM: Install Zip: Rom: Download Here Make sure the file you download is PA-2.22-d2att.zip
CWM: Install Zip: Gapps: Download (These are the new ones)
CWM: Wipe Data/Factory Reset
CWM: Advanced/Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot and edit your Apps Dpi & Layout under Settings/Paranoid Settings - DO NOT RESTORE YOUR OLD PROPERTIES FOR NOW
Would i need to wipe data, factory reset, then also wipe dalvik cache BEFORE I install the rom and gapps since i'm running stock with root?
Thank you
i'm also reading that for paranoidandroid you must first flash CM10 then flash paranoid.. is this accurate?
umm.. not sure where you saw that you need to flash a CM rom before flashing the paranoid ROM..
I believe the Paranoid rom is based off CM
The instruction on the link you have, in my opinion, is wrong..
The way that i flash my roms is...
Wipe data/factory reset..
Wipe Cache
Wipe Dalvik
Format/Data
Fomat/System ( i think deletes backups) only do in emergency.aka optional step
Flash ROM
Flash Gapps.
THATS IT
Some people will wipe cache afer flashing a rom..
But if you wipe data/factory reset i believe deletes the ROM...

If you are already running CM10 then you don't need to wipe Cache. Just dalvik and data. Im pretty sure thats what was confusing, since this is based off of CM10.

yeah, I just keep reading and reading.. probably making this out to be more difficult than it really is just don't want to end up with a brick or anything.
I'm already on stock + root + latest CWM so I just need to put the files on my phone and flash but I believe these are the steps i need to take:
1- Download ROM and Gapps to internal sd card
2- Boot phone into recovery
3- WIPE Cache/Delvik/Data factory reset> Mounts and Storage- format system
4- Flash ROM and Gapps

This is what I do
1. One Click back to EL29
2. Get GPS lock
3. Flash EL29 directboot CWM with Mobile Odin
4. Factory reset, wipe C & DC
5. Flash Rom
6. Flash GAPPS
7. Reboot
8. reboot to Recovery
9 Wipe C & DC
10. Flash Tweaks, modems, 4.2 goodies, etc
11. Reboot
I have never had issues other than a bad rom DL using this method. More experienced users probably skip a step or more along the way, but this has never let me down. No triangles or Flash counts using this way either.

Modem and kernel do not really matter you can change those and flash them any time.
If you are doing a TW ROM make sure you have a custom recovery (If you are stock this is when you would flash a kernel). Usually you would want to run a wipe all type zip or do a wipe in the recovery(If it is a safe recovery) Once you have that flash the ROM. If you are doing an AOSP ROM do the same first step but when you are in recovery flashing the ROM also flash the Gapps.
Once you have that done you can go nuts on whatever tweaks/modems/kernels you would like to mess with.
Why can you use mobile odin for everything/? Like lets say me
About to do a update to my rom (no wipe)
So I can just Flash the Rom (wipe cache and dalvik in mobikle odin) restart
flash gapps mobile odin? right?
Or is this bad idea. I only use mobile odin to flash once before and it worked I lvoed how easy was... was a recovery though not a rom or eta update
If your updating

*your ROM, most of the time you just have to wipe cache and dalvik. And you can use recovery menu to do it

i managed to get it to the android is upgrading.. starting apps thing, but it gets stuck there.
Did you wipe anything when you flashed the kernel? If the kernel was for jellybean it shouldn't hang like that... not sure?

yeah i always wait a little while, i have chosen latest kernel, has not made a difference, i have gotten better results using an older one of the titanium kiss, hellboy doesnt seem to work with my phone for some reason
Did you use the command
fastboot flash boot boot.img or just
fastboot boot boot.img?
Also, after flashing it,does the terminal say something like this?
Okay.
Okay.
Finished.
Edit:also, see that you are flashing the kernel in the fastboot screen(where it says 'fastboot usb'),and not in the Hboot(bootloader) screen.

i am using the all in one tool kit to flash my kernel, yes i am in fastboot, a window pops up runs through code and my phone reboots, i have changed the kernel on it before, but for some reason this time it wont boot properly at all, the phone is currently at the " android is upgrading" screen, it was the starting apps box with the spinning circle
if you say that it is stuck at android is upgrading - that's because the dalvik works and it is deodexing your gapps.
so i suppose you flashed kernel, flashed rom and gapps and rebooted. well this works from time to time but you have to reboot between flashing rom and gapps.
1. download this kernel: hellboy
2. go to bootloader and flash the kernel.
3. go to recovery and: do a factory reset + wipe system - no need for wiping dalvik or cache cause factory reset does them both.
4. flash your rom
5. reboot.
6. if it boots properly, reboot to recovery and now flash GAPPS package.

[Q] Synergy rom help

Hey guys,
I was installing the synergy rom r484 onto my galaxy s3 att variant and in the aroma installer it says that my device is d2spr but my device is actually d2att and I think that is why when I install the synergy rom it doesn't let me use my data and 4g. Can anyone help with this?
update your recovery with a d2att one. are you cwm or twrp?
I'm using cwm. Can you please guide me how to update the recovery to the d2att one? haha sorry I'm kind of a noob
let's see if this gets you straightened out. flash this in recovery, go to advanced and select reboot recovery. once back in, give synergy a shot again. do you know what version you're on now and where you got your current cwm from? just curious

When I tried to flash that file it started and then said "Installation aborted"
I've attached a picture
Oh and I'm not sure what version I'm running
can you boot into your device? if so, use Rom Manager to update your recovery.
if not, here is the previous version of CWM if you want to see if this takes care of you.
also, twrp is recommended for aroma installers. i'll attach a recovery flashable twrp zip. let me know if either flashes. if not, you may have to restore a backup (if you cant boot in now) and update your recovery that way.

I've tried rebooting into recovery multiple times but it goes to the Team Win recovery screen and then goes back into the boot loop :crying:
odin back to stock, buddy. thats what i would do.
here's a link to the stock firmware with root already injected: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1739426
flash the tar in odin. make sure the auto reboot box is unticked. if you get a PASS after flashing, unplug the device, pull the battery, replace it and press the recovery button combo. once in recovery, wipe data and wipe cache. reboot.
you will be on rooted stock. you can install cwm or twrp from rom manager or goo manager from there.
otherwise, your other option is to flash recovery from odin via this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2042775
download the root kit and flash the recovery.tar from odin. boot into recovery and flash that cwm 6.0.3.1 update i linked you to earlier. reboot recovery (under advanced) and proceed with flashing synergy or flash this recovery-flashable stock rom to get you started. you can decide where you want to go from there.

If I odin back to stock will it delete all my music and pictures and etc.?
Okay I'll try the second thing and I'll report back in a bit. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me.
Okay so I got that recovery that you gave me earlier installed (the cwm 6.0.1.3) after using odin and the att gs3 root and then flashing after that. Then when I went back into recovery and tried to install the synergy rom it started and then the aroma installer froze and my phone went back into the loop. I can get into recovery now though but I don't know how I should install synergy
Honestly? This is a picky rom. I would abandon it for a more stable install and operational rom, whether that be a touchwiz base or aosp. It doesn't seem to be working with you at all.
Okay I installed the cyanogen mod stable build and now I'm just waiting for it to finish booting up. Thank you so much for all your help!!!
That's what we're all here for. Lemme know if that did/didn't boot up for ya :good:
Okay it's still at the same booting screen where it says CyanogenMod and the blue circle is spinning around it.
Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvik. Reflash rom and gapps. Wipe data and cache again. Reboot and give it a few minutes.
That's my suggestion.

My Galaxy at&t phone had the same problem after flashing with Synergy (my first flash on my new Galaxy S3 phone). It lost its identity and though it was a Sprint phone. Next I tried installing a different custom ROM, but I couldn't install CM10.1 (and still can't now) because it thinks it was not a d2att.
There were only two ROMs I was able to do installed since then. They were the Serenity 1.2 and its predecessor. I had to restored phone back to stock, root, and flash ROM. For a while, it was pretty grim as my phone had gotten very unresponsive and lethargic with all the fixes I tried during the time my phone thought it was a d2sp (no data).
After going back to stock using Odin, the phone finally could accessed the data network again and showing SGH-I747 instead of the Sprint version. I tried flashing CM10.1, but it still didn't think it is a d2att since it aborted when it did the check for d2att.
Nest, I flashed the DrewGaren's JellyBean747 version 1. Then I flashed DrewGaren's Serenity 1.2. Both were mostly working OK, but there are still some bugs.
Unfortunately, the DrewGaren's series seem to be dead projects since he didn't seem to be doing anymore improvement since Jan 2013.
Samsung S3 had me routed. My previous phone was HTC Inspired, and I rooted it instead of it routing me
