I'm a noob. I did search for about an hour and found no answer. I've been living in MIUI glee for the a few months and my USB/Charger port has finally given out. I can't connect it to my pc, or I would have used the Unrevoked method to unroot it. Unrooting without being able to connect to my PC really seemed like a shot in the dark until I found this. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1287111 It's an unroot guide without a pc, except it's for the Incredible S. Is this possible to do with the Incredible 2? I can charge my phone battery via an external battery charger and was considering just buying another battery and doing a swap every morning, but I would rather have a functional USB port. Thanks in advanced for anyone that replies!
That method worked for me on my og dinc. Dunno about our dinc 2... Worth a shot I would assume... But I really don't know

The only issue with my dinc is I had an amoled screen and I rooted before froyo I believe and every ruu I had was for the gb update, but it wouldn't register with anything so I had to trial and error with a lot of ruu's till I found the right one

Thanks for the responses!, how would I go about finding the correct RUU for my phone?

Ok, so i've had my desire since the first day it came out...I've lurked this board many a time but never actually decided to root my phone...i was always quite happy as it is...it's unlocked so i get the updates.....at the moment though i want Gingerbread on my phone or cm7 perhaps (still need to do research on which is the best rom though)
Anyway, my micro usb port on my phone has long gone....i need to balance my phone onto the cable to make it charge but the times of plugging my phone into my computer ended many moons ago...so my question is
can i still root my phone even though it wont connect to my computer?
It's not a biggy as i plan to get the Sensation either tomorrow or next week, i just thought i'd spruce up the desire then flog it off to a mate.
help will be appreciated

okay so my g2 is rooted and lately it has been dying and if i plug it in, it does'nt turn on the orange light blinks a few times and then...blinks orange and green, i left it on there for a while and then turned it on after unplugging it and it just keeps dying but this morning i woke up and it wouldn't even turn on. I've heard that this means its overheating, and i just wanted to know if my tmobile insurance covers a battery replacement.
You have to call the HTC Accessory line which is: 1-888-871-3305... just dont mention that your device is rooted and they will replace it, usually with free shipping
Thanks, but i went to tmobile and they took one out of another phone and the lady plugged it in and said it did the same thing.. we ordered a new one with the warranty still going until October. When I got home I plugged in the phone again and it worked.... i'm thinking about just returning this phone and using the new one but i'm not sure how (and if) i can unroot this thing and get it back to complete stock could you help me out?
yea I can help you.... can I ask did you do the gfree method or the older method (putting files on sdcard and typing in commands in Terminal)....
Yes I used visionary and typed commands with the terminal, I have s-off also

how long does it take before your battery dies.... if it stays a decent amount of time I would do this.... (make sure to fully charge between each step and if you need help with any step just ask)
1) Flash this Rom inside of clockwork recovery http://www.4shared.com/file/XlIDy7SV/ota_odex_V11.html
(charge)
2)flash the original recovery image http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=834545&highlight=recovery
(past 2 steps were just incase phone dies out in next step
(charge)
3)now do the instructions on this site.. (And Make Sure you Charge as much as possible before flashing PC10IMG.zip)
then you would be unrooted....
Oh with the new battery the phone is fine now I just wanted a brand new g2 before my warranty ended
Besides it was already ordered before we found out that my phone would work properly with the new battery so why go through the trouble of canceling it.

Battery warrenty
If you got your phone less then ninety days ago the battery is still under a warranty. You need to call T-Mobile and tell them that your phone is randomly rebooting and when they ask you if you have another battery to try tell them you don't. You can also just say that the battery dies very quickly, or that the battery will not charge when you have the phone on the charger but it charges when you plug it in via USB. All of those complaints will lead to a free battery replacement.

Thanks but now I'm returning the old phone because we already ordered a new one under warranty so I need to figure out how to get back to stock

Ok I have a STOCK HTC EVO 4G that has never been rooted or anything. For some reason it WON'T mount as disk drive but will charge and everything else normally! I'm on the LATEST sprint OTA too. Can anyone offer any advice or help. I have also tried HARD RESET, FACTORY RESET, & BATTERY PULL. There is also no port damage, I have never dropped phone in water or anything else either. People please help, I also have insurance with sprint

Try a different cord and make sure u have the drivers for you're computers os

Have you tried turning usb debugging on?
Edit: While I was in line at Sprint to get a replacement, I saw a guy that took his in for the same problem. They couldn't figure it out so they ordered a replacement. If you can't get anything to work then you can try taking it in.
Also install HTC Sync if you haven't already, and if you aren't using the stock cable try a different one. USB cords longer than a certain length (2 feet maybe) will only charge your device.
If you haven't tried a different port, try that as well.

This guys funny lol dude you still didn't figure this out you created a new thread to ask the same question instead of bumping your old thread
The cord I'm using once used to make it read in the ps3. All of a sudden it just stopped disk driving and yes I tried with debugging on! Idk if the new Sprint update did it but by the time I got around to trying to root it I had these issues

You keep the phone in charge only to root, so you can still root it.
Since it isn't rooted and you won't have to bother with unrooting, why not take it to Sprint and have them look at it? They can either tell you what is wrong and fix it or give you a replacement.

OK, so recently my epic only wants to charge from certain chargers. The normal charger that came with the epic doesnt work no more, and about 15 other chargers laying around my house for all kinds of different phones will not work either. Ive only found 2 chargers that work. A moto droid one, and some LG one, I want to do a insurance claim but i need to get this unrooted. The problem is: my phone will not connect to the USB when its in off mode so i cant odin or anything like that. i need something i can flash through the phone to unroot. Im on syndicate latest rom on ec05. please help!
If you are going through insurance then you don't need to worry about it. Just flash ReRFS ROM. They may figure it out as a bad USB and fix it for free.

Hey guys, I have a little problem here.
Well, my Droid Incredible 2 does not want to charge, i have it plugged in to my laptop using the OEM charger and OEM battery. I'm using the EasyTether to give my laptop internet and every now and then I check my phone, but every time I check it, the battery decreases. I dont know what to do, The only way I can charge my phone is by turning it off and charging it, help?
I'm not sure if its a hardware or software problem, but im willing to try wiping everything or flashing a new kernel or ROM.
Right now I'm using the latest CM7 nightly and stock CM kernel.
If you need any more information, just ask.
Help please!
It could be a hardware problem. My wife's DInc2 stopped charging too. She is not rooted and tried a factory reset but that did not help. After working with Verizon tech support they sent her a replacement.
Happened with my first Dinc2, they told me it was a hardware problem and sent me a new one.
