[Q] ICS for Desire [Sandvold] - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
First i will say thanks for the great rom, i will try it asap (a little bit more stable)
i read about this rom in the topic since it was started .
i have some Questions, it will be my first "clean" Android (without Sense)
There should be a installer after first start of the rom after flash? Where can i found more information about the things i can chose?
Evervolv toolbox, is that an addtional Settings Dialog with more Options or still a app which can be used as "standalone"
(sorry for the bad english)

When you install it you will get some options to choose a launcher and a2sd-script.
On first start you won't get the app to set your g-acc and so on, you'll have to do that in the system settings.
And the Evervolv-Toolbox are additional settings the this rom it's not a standalone app.
Hope this helps
grtz

Please note that Sandvold ICS v. 0.4.2.1 has some stability problems at the moment. Many people experience "black screen of death", device fails to turn on screen after a period of inactivity, battery has to be removed to reboot. I found that raising the minimum CPU speed from 245mhz to 384mhz completely removes this problem. With this small tweak the rom is great! You *should* be able to change this setting with Evervolv toolbox, sadly it does not work. For some reason the toolbox runs with insufficient rights to tweak cpu speed, I did my own scripts to set cpu speed from the console instead.
cheers
/Stig

Black-screen-issues can be solved by flashing MIUI-kernel:

Hi! I use ICS since beta 0.3.9 and I'm now updated to 0.4.4
This release seem very stable now. Just remember that the camera preview doesn't work. Also, you might have some problem with MMS.

App space problem
Hello - some help for a newbie please (well Desire newbie)...
I did try reading though Sandvolds thread, and I have tried to remedy, but I don't seem to get much further ....
I am running an ICS beta on my tablet, so I thought it would be interesting to try it on my Desire too. On the tablet there is more memory, so I have never experienced space problems with apps.
I rooted the Desire OK - and flashed 0.4.2.1 ... ran fairly smoothly, but hit space problems when trying to load up some of my favourite apps. I have a 16gb sd card. I downloaded apps2sd from the market - and moved some of the apps. However still not able to update some system apps from the market due to insufficient space (even though there appears to be enough).
Reading the other thread, I have gathered some/little understanding... and so before flashing 0.4.4 I reformatted my SD card from recovery choosing the largest ext4 that I could.
I was then ready to go to try 0.4.4.
On trying the Amarullz script and Nova launcher - I was having lots of lag after boot and I kept getting prompted to enter PIN number and reboot the phone. (I had done a factory wipe and cleared Dalvik after flashing the ROM).
I then reflashed choose Apex launcher, stock Kernal and data2sd option.
I wiped after flashing, did a few waits and reboots - as others recommended this.
Now seems to run quite smoothly, I have added back a bunch of apps via Titanium Backup ... but I don't see any apps 'automatically' being moved to sd card. I have moved as many as I can manually.
But I can also see that I am going to run out of space again soon ....
If I look in the settings at storage I see...
Internal storage - Apps 104MB Available 26.86MB
SD Card - Apps 239MB
Am I doing anything wrong?

1). www.revolutionary.io use this
2). www.alpharev.com download cm7r2.img
3). flash the hboot
Code:
fastboot flash hboot hboot.img
4). re-flash 4.4 and choose stock a2sd
5. enable a2sd
Code:
su
a2sd install
#choose settings#

Thanks for quick response..... I have a fee more questions....
I originally rooted my Desire via revolutionary .... do I need to do it again?
I guess I then flash the zip file.
The fastboot command - can I do this from the terminal app?

hi,
fastboot command and adb must be running from computer.
you need to instal sdk android sdk android
if you run revolutionary, u don t need to do once again but to flash an hboot you must be Soffed.
dunno if revolutionary does the job... i used alpharev to do son gain S-offed and able to flash hboot from fastboot command.

I saw the option to install agps in the installer but i chose gps. How can i add the agps when i already installed the rom? Because getting gps fix in navigation is taking way to long, so long that i abort it while trying

Getting closer

1. Done OK
2. Done OK
3. Done OK
4. Done ... BUT ... no Gapps, no Terminal app ... not much really not even a keyboard (even after 2 reboots)
- The link to Gapps for CM7r2 no longer works
5. Unable to try this as no Terminal app ... and I can't get ADB working on my PC.

where have my apps gone?
So I can't get cm7r2 to work, so I reflashed hboot back to standard, I then reflashed 0.4.4 choosing stock a2sd. I installed a2sd via terminal and moved cache too. After reboot I installed a bunch of apps .... and eventually ran out of space - as if apps not being moved.
I then rebooted, and all of the apps except the paid apps have gone. I installed a couple of apps from the. Market and they have also gone after reboot.
I turned a2sd off, then I was able to keep apps over a reboot ..... but I would like to get a2sd working.
Any ideas?
For now I am manually moving apps to SD card.

Sorry for this question...
Your 3G, Wifi is working.. My wifi, 3G is not working..

3g (once APN set up) and wifi both working well

Did you do a wipe after flashing the rom? I had a similar problem when doing that. CWM Recovery also deletes the sd-ext partition, and as on cm7r2 there are also system apps on sd-ext, they are gone.
With the included a2sd apps should be moved to sd-ext automatically. It is not shown on the phone.
How big is your ext4 partition? And did you create it with CWM Recovery? If so, try recreating with gPartEd.

This.

I created the extra partition via CWM recovery - maybe too large as I made it 4gb.
I wiped the device and Dalvik cache after flashing the ROM.
I then set a2sd via terminal and allowed reboot.
I then downloaded apps (or restored via Titanium)
Eventually ran out of space when downloading apps - so they were not being moved.
Apps run OK.
When I did a normal reboot - the apps 'disappeared '.
Reading Bortaks debug guide the only thing I can see that looks relevant is to try reformatting the SC card with 2 primary partitions.

Read what i wrote? Do the following:
1) Recreate the partitions on your sdcard using GParted
2) Do a full wipe BEFORE flashing.
3) Re-flash the rom and select stock a2sd
4) Do NOT wipe again
4) Reboot, start Terminal emulator, set up a2sd
5) See if apps stay

On my first try I selected stock A2SD and set it up as explained using the terminal. (using a 2GB ext3 partition, placed after FAT32)
I rebooted and everything seemed fine, and I installed several apps. After a while, though, I got the "insufficient storage" error whenever I tried to install something. In the application manager the internal memory available had a large negative value.
I then wiped everything, reformated the 2GB ext3 partition to ext4, using "Minitool parition wizard" and reinstalled the Sandvold ICS ROM with Amarullz. Everything seems fine, and it shows 2GB internal memory. However, I've noticed that the ROM gets more unstable the more apps I install (it shows 500MB installed apps now, after removing around 50MB)...
Most of the time what happens is that system apps start crashing (Google Music, Dialler, Contacts, etc.) out of nowhere. After a while normal apps crash on execution as well. Google music is useless, as it crashes after a few songs and brings down the whole phone. Other music apps don't have this problem.
Am I doing anything wrong with the way I set up Amarullz? Should I retry stock A2SD with ext4?
I'm using stock HBOOT, Nova launcher and stock kernel.

Got there ..... but.....
After repartitioning my SD card for the third time ... I finally have this working.
Thanks to all for help/advice ..... but (isn't there always a but) ....
Downloads from the Market/Play are extremely slow maybe 5+ times the same apps took before .... I have tried on different WiFi connections - still the same.
Is this a consequence of the write speed of my SD card (it is only class 4) ... I did see a post in another thread where a class 4 wasn't recommended, but this was refuted by others using a class 4 card.
Otherwise all apps seem to be running OK, with no real loss of performance.
I guess once I have finally loaded up on all the apps I want, the Play updates will be more infrequent and less of an issue.

Update on Beta 4
It seems I'm getting mixed results with these betas. I'm not sure why this is occurring, some people have been able to get this working right while others have had a hard time with it.
Currently, I'm rebuilding the entire program. This takes a while because I have to figure out how to pack all these options into the program but make it small enough to where it will run correctly.
I will say that some of the beta features are coming back out...one of them is the search for a partition code. I suspect that code may be leading me into issues with certain platforms, so I'm going back to the 2.7.5.2 method of mounting (mmcblk0p2 or mmcblk1p2).
Also, parts of the code will use Busybox Ash (the only code that won't will be starta2sd, which will still use Bash for the time being). The startup code will definitely use Busybox Ash.
Until then, here are the links to the the last two betas and the last official release:
Version 2.7.5.3 Beta 04 - http://www.darktremor.info/files/a2sd/dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04-signed.zip

Beta 04 took longer than I expected to release. I have done major changes to the code:
1. New commands: convert-ext4 - This will convert your EXT3 partition into EXT4. Just a friendly reminder on this command: Not every rom supports EXT4, so it is possible to go into a boot loop if you switch roms. Use with caution.
2. Reworked convert-ext3 (convert-ext4 gets similar code)...now a flag file is set before the reboot (no conversion is done before the reboot). At load time, the conversion is performed. This takes longer in the reboot process and you may think your phone has locked up...wait about five minutes before doing anything with the phone.
3. Repair is rebuilt...now it uses existing commands to repair the setup (reinstall, remove, cachesd, cachepart, nocache, datasd, nodata). Definitely shrinks the code.
4. Added fix_permissions program to the package. This may help with Superuser issues when using the datasd feature. It is used in reinstall, remove, datasd and nodata.
5. a2sd install is back!!! Both a2sd install and a2sd reinstall do the exact same thing.
6. Dalvik heap code has been shrunk and now creates a file called dalvikheap. Actually, the code has been doing this all along (since about 2.7.5.2, I think), but I never put the code in to use the file.
7. Low Memory Killer code has also been shrunk and uses a file caled dtset_lowmem to set the low memory killer parameter.
8. Replaced Busybox PS function with Toolbox PS. The issue with Busybox PS is that it gives a false reading when I look for android.process.acore (which is the main program when the GUI starts up). If that is present, the program thinks you are trying to run Darktremor without any command line parameters. This was because Busybox would report the process was there when, in reality, it wasn't (validated this when my phone was boot looping.) Toolbox's PS reports the correct setting. This should fix the bootlooping issues some people are experiencing.
9. New commands: usedtbusybox and usedefaultbusybox - these commands may help in diagnosing issues that is may be related to the native Busybox on your rom. a2sd usedtbusybox will use the Busybox that is packaged with Darktremor. a2sd usedefaultbusybox will turn back on the scan behavior of the program introduced in Beta 03.
10. Support for Darktremor Apps2SD version 2.7 and earlier has been discontinued. To upgrade correctly from one of those versions, use version 2.7.5.3 Beta 03b or earlier.
11. Finally fixed stalled boot issues (or at least my tests with several roms says so.)
See the change log for additional details.
You will notice that if the program runs repair and finds a problem, it will correct the issue and reboot. You will see a second reboot when the dalvik-cache clears (this is to fix timing issues with CyanogenMod...I can't control that startup as well as I can other roms). This only happens if repair is ran or you flash a new rom (as repair will realign all data). If you are upgrading from a previous version of Darktremor, you should not see the reboots.

This is Darktremor Apps2SD, a multipurpose program that primarily allows a user to execute applications created for the Android OS on their Secure Digital card (with the proper setup...more on that later). But, Darktremor Apps2SD is all about stability. The goal is to be able for all users of the Android OS to be able to take advantage of a method to run their applications from a secure digital card.
But just because the Darktremor Apps2SD is all about stability, doesn't mean it isn't packed with features:
- Move applications (both free and paid) to the Secure Digital card.
- Move Dalvik Cache to run either from your Secure Digital card or from your cache partition and clears the cache on demand.
- Boot Loop Protection: prevents the phone from boot looping in the event the SD card could not be mounted.
- Dalvik JIT for faster performance on Roms which support it.
- User selectable sizes for the Dalvik heap sizes, allowing a user to freely optimize their system.
- Activate a swap partition on your SD card and sets how often the swap partition is utilized.
- Automatically fixes configuration issues.
- Users can check the free space on their SD card and check the installation to make sure all is setup correctly.
- Runs ZipAlign on demand...this makes your programs load faster.
- Built in help system for easy reference of commands.
- All features can also be reversed without repartitioning your Secure Digital card.
- New logging features assists in troubleshooting issues.
- Commands to set the Low Memory Killer feature at boot time. Great for those people who are the "set it and forget it" type.
- And more...
Darktremor Apps2SD is not the same as Froyo Apps2SD. Froyo Apps2SD creates a secure folder on the FAT32 section of your SD card (this is the section that you see when you mount your phone to your computer) and stores the programs there. This is nice as you don't have to do anything special with the phone, but it isn't backwards compatible with older versions of Android (Cupcake, Donut, Eclair) and, because of the way Froyo works, older programs not designed for Froyo will automatically stay on your internal storage (unless you install a program that forces the move to your SD card).
Darktremor Apps2SD takes a different approach. Based on the original CyanogenMod works, Darktremor Apps2SD uses symbolic linking to force Android into moving your applications to the SD card. Because Android will not allow anything to be ran from the FAT32 partition on your SD card (and, in Froyo, it will only allow you to run programs from a special folder), Darktremor utilizes filesystems called EXT2, EXT3 and EXT4. Each one of these filesystems is native to Linux (the operating system running Android), which allows you to run programs from them (same as, say, a computer running Ubuntu). This method is completely compatible with all versions of Android, including Froyo. In fact, you can run both the Darktremor Apps2SD and Froyo Apps2SD at the same time.
Check out the list of Roms that either have Darktremor Apps2SD installed or are compatible with Darktremor Apps2SD. Click on the link labeled ROM List at the top of this message.
What?! Thanks darktremor, used this with my slide, will be testing and update this post asap with feedback.
Just curious though, is this meant for froyo based roms or should it work with gingerbread also?... guess I could test and see. Also do we still need to used the 'a2sd reinstall' and 'a2sd cachesd' commands to install it?

Not sure, that's why we are testing it.
I can't get it to work on CM7 nightly 11 ( That I know of).
Used Clockworkmod to set up the ext partition (which doesn't specify which filesystem so i'm guessing either ext2 or ext3); set partition to 512mb and swap to 0mb.
Card partitioned successfully according to CWM; upon flashing the app2sd.zip the installation goes through all steps and posts that the install was successful even though the little check box by install successful is the only one that is starred. I noticed that during the install the script mounts /system and /data to write to them...not sure if that is affected by GB. I thought I read somewhere that this script was designed to check for ext4.
Hell, idk lol. I nandroided and went for it, these are my findings.
scratch that, there's a part two i missed that involves command line functions in the terminal emulator app. It looks like it's working to me.
Edit2: From what ive moved to /sd-ext so far everything seems to be working. Moved my apps, app data, dalvik cache and /data/data.
So far I havent experienced any data loss when moving /data/data.
There's no reason it shouldn't work with Gingerbread, other than the usual suspect of the rom doesn't launch scripts at boot or doesn't have EXT support.
As for the commands, you shouldn't have to rerun those commands if you are upgrading.

I can honestly say that so far everything seems to be working well on my end. Dropped ~100megs of internal space usage and sent it to the sd.
The phone does seem a bit snappier, does this style of app2sd stress the card more than usual?
hmm.
I'm running cm 7 nightly 11, set 512mb, 0mb swap and I think I got everything right. Strangely enough, I keep getting reboots every time i run a command in terminal.
edit: a2sd command*
SWEEET..........
I too can confirm that this works with CM7 Nightly "Gingerbread" sweet, installed the zip file from recovery, QUICK NOTE: Had to mount /system and mount /data in recovery before installing the zip file from sdcard. This is great apps2ext that works with any rom. Now in my titanium back ups it shows three seperate storge locations: internal, SD card and SDCard(a2sd) plus it restored apps I previously had on my ext.2 partition from when I was running Enoms Rom....sweeeeeet.
Also dont forget to run the command in adb shell:
Code:
/system/bin/a2sd cachesd
if you want to move dalvik cache to sd.
UPDATE: internal memory free reads out of 1.37GB Avail. there is 1.28GB FREE and Ive got 77 apps installed right now and about too install a lot more..........
FYI im runnning a 16gb class 10 sd card with a 1024mb ext.2 partition
Most of the code is similar to the previous version. I think the snappiness may be that your SD card is faster than internal storage.

Just so everyone knows (may want to add this to the OP you know, so you don't get a million ?'s) these are the commands you HAVE to enter after flashing it in recovery.
Code:
su [ENTER]
cd /system/bin [ENTER]
sh a2sd cachesd [ENTER]
Your phone will reboot and will take a bit to complete - be patient because it's moving all your apps and the dalvik cache.
Notes: Your memory will still drop (not by much) over time because the apps will still store cached memory on the phone. To deal with this use the 'datasd' command to move that info to the sdcard also. Also, use the 'a2sd help' command to find all the functions you can perform with this. If you've used this before then all of this is irrelevant
Was so excited about this , It worked perfectly on CM7 nightly builds but when I went to update the Nightly build from 11 to 12, problems, keep getting reboot, since all my apps including titanium were on EXT, I could not access them, so the modification didn't stick from build to build, had to full data wipe, so I guess I'll be coming back to this when CM7 stable is realeased.
Yah I did. It's a beta on a nightly rom...I'm not surprised that something would be weird. I know it worked sending my dalvik cache to sd for sure, but as far as my apps being reinstalled on sd..im not sure. I followed the directions to the t and i know i didnt skip steps cause i used to use this on my nexus one

You may have to remove the script in terminal, reinstall the rom than rerun the zip script. I think that should work if you want to keep using this on nightlies
If you change roms (including moving between different nightly builds), you will need to reflash Darktremor.
The only time you don't have to do that is if Darktremor is already added on the rom you are loading. Since CM7 doesn't have Darktremor installed as part of its package, you'll have to reflash each time you change nightly builds.
If you still don't have access to your programs, type a2sd reinstall
My apologies.

For me it seems that it doesn't stick. I tried it with cm7, flashed it in recovery and when I booted up to run the commands in terminal they weren't there. No a2sd at all. Guess I could shove all in the ROM prior to flashing and see if that works.

A2SD+ Rom & Force install into internal memory

Hey all. Can't post in the development forum therefore I'll post here.
I have a Leedroid 2.5 A2SD+ rom but this should apply to all A2SD roms.
What I want to do is to force install the software onto the internal memory. I've tried googling and playing around with it myself without any luck. I've ran ADB in recovery and I can't even push the app into "/data/app" since it directs it to "system/sd/app" which is my ext partition.
Is there anyway to do this or I am out of luck ? The reason behind this is that my Handcent is glitching and there is a delay in notifications (vibrate > sound> LED) This started only after I install LeeDroid A2SD+ rom so I have a feeling that my SD card is slowing things down.
Hopefully someone has an idea about this.
Have you tried spareparts, install it, you'll have an option where to install apps, then set it on internal, may work..
I do have Spareparts, it already comes with LeeDroid but I can't see any options that relate to what you've mentioned.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=702997
There are 2 SpareParts, use the one in the link. The second option is app2sd, click on it and choose internal.
Hey, I've tried it but it doesnt seem to work.It still installs onto the SDcard. Hmm...i am stumped, cuz there is gotta be a way to force install an app onto internal memory..
hi,
there is some commando would managed this
=> adb shell pm setInstallLocation 1
more info into leedroid wiki =>
http://leedroid.com/bravo-wiki/prevent-any-all-apks-from-installing-to-sd-card
hope this help
Grrr.... Can't figure it out.
Nothing seems to work. I've tried the guide on the Leedroid Wiki with no luck, I've tried Titanium Backup thing that you have mentioned in the other thread. Doesn't work either. The only thing I don't get is how to remount the sd-ext partition, because in the comments of the Leedroid Wiki, that's what made it work for one of the users. I've tried remounting in CWM(ClockWorksMod) but that didn't work.
SpareParts essentially does that command setInstallLocation 1 but in GUI mod. I am lost.
I've tried using that "pm" command to install onto internal flash since there are commands that apparently allow you too but it still installs onto the SDcard. I am just wondering, is there anyway to temproraly disable App2SD script ?
hi,
if you can't get sorted like this, maybe Darktremor app2sd script wil help you, never tried as i m using data++ rom but here is the complete thread... hope for you that will help.
therez a long explication of how it s working and how to apply this on your current rom.
be sure to get root rights

Thanks for your help. I took a different route by pushing the APK onto the /system partition. I had 20mb left so it was enough for an app.
Thanks for all the help))

[Q] Maximize internal storage for Lee-droid 3.0.8.2

HI All,
Hope you can take a look over my setup and help me maximize the space on this phone.
I have rooted, S-off'ed and Followed several guides trying 3 Roms. I like Leedroid best and want to use it going forward. However I keep running out of space after a couple of months and find myself wiping the phone down to start again. despite using the 3.0.8.2 a2sd version of the rom.
I've read posts about this issue suggesting A2SD reintall or terminal emulator fix's but they refer to CM7 and other Roms so I am fearful of trying them out without consulting the experts.
Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong or suggest a new approach I would be willing to wipe everything and start again I.e re-install apps from the market because TB keeps my contact sms etc safe.
I dont know what a2sd leedroid comes packaged with. the "a2sd reinstall" command from terminal is something specific to Dark Tremor a2sd. This can be installed on any rom, so it could be that. This wont break anything if you have any other a2sd solution as these commands wont be programmed into the script.
If it has got Dark tremor, moving dalvik-cache onto sd ext would save space too. the command for that would be "a2sd cachesd"
Hi RootSU, Thanks for your reply. I've downloaded the terminal emulator and tried those commands, doesn't seem to work.
I suppose what I'm trying to Ask is: To run Leedroid what is the optimum configuration to fit the most apps without getting running low message coming up.
Here is the quick sys info which i got too.
LeeDroid ROM does not have the DarkTremor's script - so the a2sd commands won't work. AFAIK, it uses MCRScripts.
There should be an application like that in the ROM with preinstalled scripts.
The last time is used there was and after running the script which moved the dalvik to the SD the problem got solved.
This is the link for the patch:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15732939&postcount=384ton
Yep, just found that add o in the thread:
http://leedroid.ftp.rshost.eu/Bravo_Addons/Move-Dalvik-to-sdext.zip
if you havent done this, it will save a lot of space.
Ok thanks,
I saved that file to SDcard rebooted to recovery and Applied Zip file, It seemed to go well took a while but no errors. Here is a new pic of system info not really much change is there ?
Can you suggest any other checks ?
Not really. may be you already did this? How many apps have you got?
Are you s-off? Maybe try data++ version?
i used to use this rom, now on HD port
can't remember, but i think the A2SD rom already moves the dalvik cache to ext, so flashing that zip won't save anything. you must have a lot of data on internal
to maximise internal storage use the data++ ROM
there is a very good FAQ on how to install it, and more importantly, explains the difference.
since you are already S-OFF, it involves changing hboot to maximise internal memory. then you can move dalvik to ext to have even more...
thanks guys makes sense, Eddie giving this FAQ a go.

No Disk Space, Sandvold ICS

Hello,
I installed on my Desire with STOCK HBOOT Sandvold ICS in the Version 0.17.1.1. I choosed stock a2sd in the installation and active in terminal a2sd install. Then I restored my apps by Mybackup Root. I have now the problem if I want to install a app from the market I get the error message "No Disk space available" (or something like that, I'm using German language).
I have a 512mb ext4 partition and activate a2sd in Terminal. I searched the topic for problems like that and found that I have to install mount2sd. I did this, but it didn't help either.
What should I do now? I haven't enough posts to post in the sandvold ics topic.

Why? No.
If you can live with slower perfomance, active the stock a2sd again with answers: y, y ,y

I had exactly the same problem. At first I chose during flashing the option "Regular a2sdext" as it seems good to me. However, nothing has changed, it was not working for me at all. Then I reflashed again with "Stock a2sd" and after booting I went to terminal and activated it. I tried it with several combinations (in some of them I got the message "Insufficcient storage available" and I only had like 5 apps installed...). At the end I finally made it work with the combination that is recommended by Sandvold - Y N Y. After that I have been installing several apps and my internal memory does not go down almost at all :good:... I will see later, but for now, this is the best set up for me....
I had this problem
I had this problem with one application. When installing from market, there'd be a pop up message saying that there was no more storage space even though there was plenty.
A few hours later, everything went back to normal and I managed to install all the apps I wanted.
(Side question: have you guys updated to Sandvold ICS 0.18 Beta?! I have, but I lost root access, so now I'm trying to regain it. Could someone alert Sandvold? I'm a new member and I can't post to 'Android development forums")

what do you mean that you lost root access? I was planning to upgrade to 0.18 today (I flashed 0.17.1 yesterday, but I have an issue with my phone - I cannot recevie any phone calls - and I hope another flash might help it...), so I guess I will wait a while....

I have been testing 0.18 for a few hours now. Your phone issues should be resolved except you will encounter a new issue. You will lose superuser privilliges, to restore this, you have to install a zip of superuser through recovery.

I had 0.17.1.1 and all was well, it was tiny bit laggy, but overall it was cool.
i updated to 0.18, and I lost root access: the apps requesting SuperUser premissions were denied. (If you don't know what root access is, please google it)
As iyf said, you can flash the zip provided in Sandvold's official thread to restore root access. Check page 1601 or so for the flashable zip that will restore root access. I did so, and regained root access.
Then I got back all my apps as Sandvold 0.18 is my daily driver. But as I was using it, I noticed that whenever you change something in the system settings, it does not apply immediately. For example, I want my phone to lock immediately when it goes to sleep, well it simply doesn't. The power menu lost a few of the shortcuts it had in 0.17.1.1 (sound profiles...) and even if you restored them in the system settings, it won't change.
All in all, 0.18 is great step in terms of stability and reactiveness. No more scroll lag, apps open seamlessly, and no more 3G signal problems. The camera still isn't working though. Nevertheless, bizarrely the system lost its coherence: the system settings are not immediately applied and used, and the screen just won't lock. Those are the problems I encountered this afternoon.
I hope Sandvold takes a look at this thread as I cannot post on the official ROM thread coz I just registered on XDA.
(My Home button died today, even if I press it really hard, it won't respond, but I think it's a hardware issue)
EDIT: About the no more space issue, I had this today even though there was plenty of space left. I rebooted the phone and the warning disappeared.

of course I know what root is, otherwise I would not be here, right? ... I just did not understand what happened to you when you updated to 0.18.... Now I understand.... and regarding to your issues - in 0.17.1 I had exactly the same problem - my screen did not lock even I set it up correctly and I also had the problem with Home button, it simply did not work + I could not receive any phone calls... all of that was really annoying and I tried to find some help on sandvold's blog, without any success, I also tried their IRC, nobody helped me either. I did not want to do a full wipe again, but at the end I did (and now I have to set up everything as well ) but after full wipe, everything is working correclty... I can receive phone calls, my screen locks and home button is also working ... so I recommend you to do a full wipe, I am sure it will resolve your issues as well...

I also lost the root access with Beta 0.18(with full wipe),
(Beta 0.17 "root access" is OK!)
Superuser is out of order with this issue so that I can't activate A2SD
btw,
I have once tried the "AD2SDX", but didn't work normally:
I merged 1GB ext4 for it. And every time when I install about 10~15 Apps
A message on the top of the screen would tell me that I almost reached the limit.

By full wipe you mean:
1. wipe data/factory reset
2. wipe cache
3. wipe dalvik cache
4. wipe battery stats
right?
I always do that when I flash a new ROM... Anyway, will try again later and hope that it works.

yes, it is what I meant... I did full wipe before flashing and then another after it ... I do not wipe battery stats during that process, but it does not matter I hope it will work for you...

you mean working with AD2SDX ?
Can I ask you how do you merge and format ext4 ?
Actually, I'm using MiniTool Partition Wizard, is it okay ?
cause I did reboot after I saw the message, but didn't work.
But I surely know that I can see "1GB" in "Apps" in "settings"
quite confusing

It's not okay, minitool doesn't do that correctly. Use 4ext recovery to partition your sd card.

Quite confusing indeed. I must say I'm no expert developer or programmer, heck I'm an engineering student. i just experiment on my Desire. But my experience in bricking/unbricking/flashing/etc tells me the following:
Minitool wizard apparently is not okay. I used it at first too but my Desire just could not read or detect the EXT3 partition I created. I tried EXT4. I tried different roms and scripts, none worked for me. (To be honest, I only tried 3 roms and a few scripts).
What I used is plain simple: Clockworkmod Recovery partitioning tools. It works for me!
First restore your SD card to full FAT32 configuration (I might suggest changing the basic storage unit from a few bytes to a few kilobytes as it might increase SD card responsiveness).
BACK IT UP, you will lose everything on it when you partition it in CWM.
Boot into recovery and select partition SD card (It is advised that the size of your partition does not exceed 1.5 GB as a few ROM developers have pointed out - not Sandvold though- I use 512 MB, which is more than enough for me). Set SWAP to 0 Bytes. (i have no idea what swap is, should google it, but most threads advise a swap of 0 B).
That's it, you have your partition.
I use CWM and Sandvold 0.18. If you use this setup, everything should be okay, at least it's ok on my phone.
I use stock a2sd when flashing Sandvold ICS ROMs.
I'm on stock HBOOT, S-OFF, and using the regular Kernel that comes with Sandvold 0.18. (I tried tiamat, but the battery dies after half a day of use!)

As I know, swap in linux is somewhat like virtual memory in Windows.
Will be launched when the system is in low memory.
That's exactly everything I know
I'm now Using Revolutionary CWM v4.0.1.4, stock HBOOT, S-OFF
And just follow your way to full wipe then install the system again(stock a2sd)
I still can't get the root access. thus, I can't activate a2sd in terminal
PS: with Beta 0.18
But Beta 0.17.1 currently work!

Marvel keep's bugging all the time...

Hello guy's,
I'm new to the rooting business, and i've unlocked the bootloader and installed CWM for my Wildfire S(Marvel),
I have a quite few problems(bugs), in these few weeks of using it:
1. SU binary wont work besides the 2.3.1-ef version, and i've tried updating it through SuperUser, and flashing the binary through the CWM.
After the restart, all aps lose root access becoming unusable, not accepting or prompting for privileges. I've tried multiple ROM's and the SU Update fixer from the market...nothing has worked...
2. CWM(although re-flashed) wont backup my data(gets stuck at: error while making a backup image of /sd-ext). I am using an ext2 1gb 2nd partition for my apps.
3. The phone freezes at random(usually when some app is opened). I am using Stock ROM currently, flashed with Dust 9.0 and updated adreno 200 libs. I've scored 2000 on the antutu benchmark(without any bugs whatsoever). Im using smartassv2/noop on 400mhz/768mhz.
4. The internal storage of the phone(/user) jumps from 100mb to 70mb(even to 20mb), even if there are no apps installed, and the current apps are linked to sd-ext via Link2SD.
5.The phone keeps syncing at random, and lasts until i manually cancel it. It really isnt doing anything, just sits there...and when i manually sync it, it doesn't take as that long to finish...
Hope someone can tell my why my phone if full of gremlin's...
EDIT: Im testing CM10 and none of these bugs have appeared(except for CWM theoretically)

1. Try SuperSU, uninstall superuser, install supersu from market and update. I never had such problem.
2. A pretty common problem. Maybe ext2 is to be blamed? I use ext4 and it worked for me..
3. Dust kernel had a problem of random freezes. try cake kernel, Set minimum frequency to 245 Mhz for less battery drain.
4. Link2sd doesn't link data files. Also mostly the cache is stored in internal memory. Clear cache and reboot. When rebooting it'll link library files which can free up some space.
5. There are many things that need syncing in our phone. For example: calendar, contacts, whats app, bla bla. Don't get bothered by syncing sign. Its just doing its job. I examined the data usage when it was sycing and its not more than 5 kb/ps. so I guess it is meant to be slow to allow free browsing and usage of data for other apps.

Thanks for the reply
1. SuperSU starts looping while updating the su binary, especially after superuser tries to update it. If its clean then it gives me this error: "there is no su binary installed, and supersu cannot install it. this is a problem!"
2. It has been backuping perfectly until yesterday...i just cant see why this could be a problem all so sudden...ill try to experiment with ext4 as soon as im finished testing CM10
3. I'll try Cake kernel then
4. Really weird with those jumps, sometime its jumps from 77 to 100mb and freezes...
5. I understand, but its really weird that there is no animated sync icon in any tasks it should sync...everything is blank yet it still standing
EDIT:
Did a full format, reflashed adreno 200 libs and Cake kernel...no dice...stuck on a reboot cycle at random times
Reformatted and repartitioned the sdcard and sd-ext to see weather the backup could work
Reflashed CWM
I'll update as soon as i get a working ROM
EDIT2: None of the custom ROM's work...freezes the phone in the middle of the setup or begins a reboot loop(although i wiped it)
Stock rom boots, but SuperUser or SuperSU dont insert the su binary, thus acting like its never been rooted at all...
It seems that my phone wont simply become normally rooted at all and there is no help
Does anyone have the original recovery.img?
The one with the memory optimizer from 2.26 ruu?
I would like to revert my phone back to stock since it wont cooperate...
(sry for double posting)
EDIT: Found it in the RUU's zip(i would delete my post but i cant)
