Download EB30 Clockwork tar file from here
http://goo-inside.me/epic4gtouch/kernel/acs-eb30-clockwork-epic-touch-4g-sep-20-4-00-pm.tar
Download ODIN.
Enter download mode by powering off phone, reboot holding volume down and power button until warning screen pops up. Press volume up on warning screen to enter download mode. Connect phone with usb.
Put downloaded tar into pda spot and start flash.

Thanks, I'm trying to convince my GF to get the sgs2, she's on USCC. This will come in handy.
I actually put together a more streamlined package on the other thread. If someone could test it out, that would help others.
Inspired by the above enthusiasm, I put together a quick package to simplify rooting for your phone (if I had a phone to use, I could put together something even simpler)
Keep in mind, I'm doing this all "blind" since I don't have a phone. This procedure might not work, but should be pretty close to working. With some feedback I can fix it up quickly.
Thanks - chris41g for EK02+CWM zImage, themac79 for FB14 zImage, Margey for testing and helping work out root procedure
1) download the USCC rooting package [USCCROOT-sfx.exe]
2) extract the files
USCCROOT-sfx.exe is a 7zip self-extractor that contains all the files you'll need. Just double-click in windows and specify where you want to extract, we'll assume C:\
3) connect phone to PC
make sure USB drivers are installed
enable USB debugging (menu->settings->applications->development)
4) install E4GT EK02 kernel+CWM using ODIN OneClick
double-click on C:\USCCROOT\e4gtauto-sfx.exe
double-click on C:\USCCROOT\SPH-D710.EK02_KERNEL_CWM-OneClick.exe (thanks chris41g for zImage)
E4GTAUTO: select Option E (Extra Options), then Option H (Reboot to ODIN Download Mode), press any key to continue, then select Option J (Previous Menu)
ODIN-OC: Wait until yellow COM port shows up in ODIN OneClick window
ODIN-OC: Press Start on the ODIN OneClick screen
Phone will reboot when done
ODIN-OC: Close the ODIN OneClick window
5) Install persistent root
E4GTAUTO: select Option A (Install Root)
E4GTAUTO: when done, press any key to reboot, then any key to continue
6) install USCC FB14 kernel using ODIN OneClick
double-click on C:\USCCROOT\SCH-R760.FB14_KERNEL-OneClick.exe (thanks themac79 for zImage)
E4GTAUTO: select Option E (Extra Options), then Option H (Reboot to ODIN Download Mode), press any key to continue
ODIN-OC: Wait until yellow COM port shows up in ODIN OneClick window
ODIN-OC: Press Start on the ODIN OneClick screen
Phone will reboot when done
ODIN-OC: Close the ODIN OneClick window
7) you are done
E4GTAUTO: select Option K (Exit)
Ha ha even better man. Now I just need to figure out how to pull the stock odin information off so we can start at least creating odin roms. Need a debloated one soon. I will play with it more in the morning.
Uscc galaxy sII root (streamline)
Wow!!! Worked like a charm! THANKS!!!!!
Unroot
This process works like a charm to root the phone. How would I unroot if needed?
anyone working on an ICS rom for the US Cellular version? Shouldn't be too hard since it's basically identical to our phone. The source was released a few days ago I believe.

1. The root for USCC samsung gs2 work like a champ. (hat's off to everyone who made this happen so quick).
2. My only problem is that i want clockworkmod to do a rom backup but having problems loading it in. I downloaded the app and flashed and reboot to recovery and nothing.
Do we have a release for this and if not can I use a similar .tar to do so. I just don't want to brick my phone.
thanks
Phone:
Android Version: 2.3.6
Build number gingerbreadad.fb14
And again the new release of the samsung gs2 for USCC
Edit:
Second time's a charm I guess..
I followed the directions. Everything went well. However, after downloading superuser I don't have and can't install the binary. So it seemd that I don't have root.
I'm a little stuck. Anybody have any tips?
Thanks!

Hi All,
I'm getting ready to replace my USCC Mez with something new.
I'm torn between the Galaxy S II and the Aviator.
My main concern with either is the availability of custom ROMs and extensive development.
Which phone would be better in your opinion?
Are there any custom ROMs for either phone yet?
My searching has turned up a few discussions, but no real useful info.
Thanks in advance,
Elmojo
rooted
got my uscellular galaxy s 2 rooted
now i just want to find a way to backup my stock rom then flash different roms anyone have any idea how?
cwm doesnt work with this phone
Is there any information on how to backup your current rom or flash back to stock rom? I'm really paranoid and I'm trying to be as cautious as possible about this so I don't brick my phone, also so I have a backup plan in case something goes wrong and I have to send it in or something.
Thanks

When I first got my epic I installed a 1 click root on it. I have no idea which one it is as its been a while. I have been wanting to upgrade my phone to nebula's 1.0.7 rom so I can run 2.2 on it. I would first like to put my phone back to 100% out of the box factory everything before I go and do this. I have been reading the android development section for the epic but all the links I click on to download the software I need are all down. Pages are all comming up unavailable. Is there anyway I can get some help with getting the files I need and also a quick step by step on how to do this? Thank you in advance, il post my current software installed below
Kernal version: 2.6.29

Well after tons and tons of searching I was finally able to get odin and the stock DI18 downloaded. Now I ran into another problem, Im trying to do the 1 click root with clockwork and I cant download it. Keeps comming up as a virus and wont let me download it. Trying to get syndicates rom installed.
=) Have to write 8 posts before i can post a URL... I'm on 5 with this one.
I recently rooted my girlfriends EPIC and it is running smooth...
She is running MIDNIGHT ROM and it's very fast. Had to install SETCPU to conserve battery.
Its coming up as malware and such cause its an exploit.

Ok check it out... I used this method http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XrE7D_Raw4 I followed STEP BY STEP and it worked. Make sure you have the ROM you want in your SD card and flash BEFORE you reboot after you set up CWM for the first time. Make sense? Lol... If you want 100% out of the box factory, download ODIN 1.61, open ODIN, put your phone on DOWNLOAD MODE (HOLD 1 and POWER button at the same time til you see yellow droid dude with a shovel). Connect your phone via USB cable. On ODIN window, put SPH-D700-DG27-8Gb-REL.tar on PDA section and s1_odin_20100512.pit on PIT section. After you do that, UNCHECK F.Reset Time and click START (Leave Auto Reboot checked). Let it do its thang. Your phone should reboot and BAM!! Hello 100% out of the box factory. I used this method at least 4 times while trying to figure out what ROM was best for my girlfriend. Haha. Hope this helps!
I've been looking everywhere for ODIN and it always leads to the SDX link that's down. Any links?
So will a computer with no protection allow me to download it? I ignored the warning anyway and downloaded it to my desktop but it didn't show up, no file was there. I'm sure that's just mse just blocking it out. Already have the rom downloaded and ready to go, just need to install a 1 click root with clockwork before I can install the rom.
Also figured out odin and have my phone back to out of the box stock so I'm ready to start trying some roms. Thanks for the help thus far.

Ok so I finally figured it out and clockwork installed. Now im trying to install nebula's rom to see how I like it. I booted into system recovery but I dont know the keys. I figured out how to go up and down but what key is enter?
Yea i don't see why not. Hmmmm. Try saving it in your downloads. Don't know why the file isn't showing up...
The enter button is your HOME button at the bottom...
Or the MENU button but im almost sure its the home.
Ahhh thanks.
No prob SIR =)
Heres another question for ya. I got clockwork installed and I want to install syndicates rom now. I have the zip on my sd card but when I boot to system recovery it doesnt show up. Am I doing something wrong?
Did you go into your SD card through CWM?
PREPARATION STEP! download sgs kernel flasher from the market (must be rooted I believe) and do a kernel backup as this process changes your kernel.
SPRINT TAB INSTRUCTIONS THAT WORKEDFOR MANY SPRINT TAB OWNERS. IT MAY NOT WORK FOR YOU!
Ok here it is, Thank koushs for this product, cruiserbax for his awesome instructions and Benjamin Dobell for giving up Heimdall flashing utility and install instructions.
I NOR THE ANYONE LIST ABOVE ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS NOT WORKING!!! OR ANY DAMAGE IT MAY DO TO YOUR TAB!!
To get the zip file containing the zimage download it from here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SV6IKL1D
To flash the zimage you will need to use Heimdall which can be downloaded here. http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/ <--------click on the binaries link for 1.1.1
instruction are below.
Heimdall install instructions
1. Download Heimdall here http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
2. Download Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) and install it. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...5E-6DE6-4D3A-A423-37BF0912DB84&displaylang=en <------only if you are using Microsoft widows
2. Unzip Heimdall and you should have several files in the folder called Heimdall.exe, Heimdall-Frontend.exe, QtCore4.dll, QtGui4.dll, Readme.txt and drivers folder containing zadig.exe
3. Put you tab into Download mode(while the tab is OFF hold Volume Down + Power Button). Hook the tab up to you PC and Run Zadig.exe to install the drivers.
4. From the menu chose Options -> List All Devices.
5. From the USB Device list chose "Samsung USB Composite DEvice".
6. Press "Install Driver", click "Yes" to the prompt and if you receive
a message about being unable to verify the publisher of the driver
click "Install this driver software anyway".
7. Done. This only needs to be done once.
ClockWorkMod Install Instructions
1. First root you tab (use one click root or z4root) then downloaded rom manager.
2. Unzip the flash_image_VZW_zimage.zip. It will have have two files flash_image and zimage. you only need to use the zimage file. Open Heimdall-Frontend.exe and browse to where you unzipped the zimage to and select it. Make sure the box infront of zimage is checked. Hit start and it should flash the zimage and reboot the tab.
when it reboots it will get stuck at the samsung screen long hold the power button to shut it off. boot into recovery (cwm) power button plus volume up button it will start backing up to do the fs conversion but it will fail at /data and /cache. it will leave you in recovery.
3. While still in recovery select factory reset/data wipe when finished also do a cache wipe.
4. select reboot system, if you let it try to boot it will loop/hang on the SAMSUNG logo, this is not an issue just hold power key until it powers off.
5. while off hold volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo then release both keys! NOTE: if step 4 does not fully power off and reboots just keep holding the power button until the screen blanks again then let go and quickly hold down only volume up + power until you see the SAMSUNG logo.
6. once it boots back into recovery (cwm) it will start the same backup/conversion process again, this time it will finish and leave you in recovery.
7. select reboot system and wait for it to load the tab back to froyo. (it will be back to factory defaults with the activation screen again)
8. Your tab will still be rooted so install terminal emulator and run "mount" to verify that your partitions are ext4.
9. Power off then boot back into recovery with volume up + power, it will boot back into recovery (cwm)
10. Do a backup and reboot your tab.

Which Kernel Seems To Work The Best?
@ lloydcabraham
Which kernel is the most stable?
I rooted my tab last night in preparation for the HC port, and I'm curious about whether CWM is necessary... seems everything needs to be flashed via Heimdal or Odin, so is the advantage to having CWM installed just the wipe capabilities? I'm used to my EVO, and flashing/rooting/modding which is obviously different, I just don't understand what the differences are, I guess. THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE STEP BY STEP! Simpletons like me find them EXTREMELY useful!
Great work, and thanks again!

Chances are the honeycomb port will come to GSM Devices First, We can only hope that it comes to Sprint and Verizon devices.
I believe the build being worked on right now in here is based on a cdma device...
Not off topic at all. THE ONLY HC port is currently being built by spacemoose (reading more than one thread on one website helps) and that wasn't the focus of my question. Please read before you quote/insinuate. Don't wanna be tagged with the troll label...

Clockworkmod has many advantages if you flash different roms, or say wanted to backup your current sprint rom & settings before testing Honeycomb Port.
As far as Honeycomb Port goes,
Again Chances are Honeycomb will port to Gsm Devices First,
Honeycomb is still Closed Code.
I said somewhat off topic, which it was, considering the thread is titled Clockworkmod.
Get your facts straight.

I like Bauxite but you will get a flaky camera (Sometimes won't initialize without reboot) and seems to mess up CWM (Although redoing these steps fixes it) but I do love running @ 1.4 super stable!

3/26/11 #2:...Second... The "dirty" port will be for CDMA devices, but as soon as the CDMA version is released I'll look into getting a GSM version out asap. Shouldn't be hard. Instead of using my own kernel for this one, I'm using a modified version of Boushh's kernel and can probably hack together a suitable kernel for other devices as well. My own kernel for the larger project is still in fluctuation as I have to make changes to suit the build on a regular basis, but when I finalize that kernel I'll release it as an update and it will get a repo of it's own.

Bottom line is who cares who gets it first.

Please, I am a noobi so let's play nice. I have rooted my admires previously. Both of them are fine. One I even updated and rooted with odin.

Samsung ON5. G550T1 ROOTED ZIP available upon request
I'm trying to update my old phone which is now my sister in law's. It's stock unrooted ICS FL24.
When I try to use Kies to update, it gets through the first step of dowlnoading firmware upgrade components, but when it reaches 100% the window hangs for 30 seconds or so and then disappears and Kies closes.
It's the most recent version of Kies, I even uninstalled and reinstalled it, but it's still doing it. Has anyone come across this and a way to fix it? My sister in law wants the update but I can't seem to do it for her.

It's the most recent version of Kies, I even uninstalled and reinstalled it, but it's still doing it. Has anyone come across this and a way to fix it? My sister in law wants the update but I can't seem to do it for her.

Well for it to work you need to be on stock fl24 your phone can't be rooted. So dl a stock fl24 one click then try the update.

Oops, my fault, I did mean unrooted. I've edited the OP to reflect that. Anyway, I'm going to try it on a different computer
I'm having the same problem on my girlfriends stock unrooted phone

What worked for me was using an Odin One-Click package from here.

Use that link to download an Odin One-Click tool that will make your life easy. Whether you're looking to root her phone or keep it un-rooted, there is a tool for you on that page. Download whichever one of the tools you need whether or not you need to root her phone or keep it un-rooted. RESTORE versions will WIPE all user data from the phone. NODATA versions will NOT wipe user data from the phone. After downloading the one-click tool you need, simply turn off her phone and once it's fully powered down, press and hold volume down and the power key at the same time until you see the Samsung Galaxy S2 logo. You can let go now. It will boot into something called "Download mode" and that's what we need.
I'm going to assume you've already installed the samsung drivers since you're using KIES. If not, get them from here and install.
Make sure the phone is FULLY CHARGED at this point.
After the drivers are installed, launch the Odin One-Click program and wait for it to appear. Once it's loaded go ahead and connect your phone to the computer. Make sure your phone is still in download mode before you connect to the computer! The top left box in that Odin window should light up with a yellow box with "0:COM#" in it, once that's lighted up, go ahead and click start at the bottom.
If you do not see a yellow "0:COM#" light up in the top left set of boxes, you may need to run the ODIN One-Click as an administrator.
DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR PHONE AND DO NOT TURN IT OFF WHILE ODIN IS WORKING! Once it's done, it will change the bigger box on the left of the "0:COM#" to a green box with the word "PASS!" in it. Once this happens, the phone will reboot on its own. Once the phone reboots, it's safe to disconnect from the computer.
And that's it. You've skipped trying to use the crappy KIES software and you've successfully installed GB27 (JB 4.1.2)! I'd say it's time to celebrate!
Hope this helps you. Cheers!
(alternatively you could just follow the instructions from the page where you download your ODIN tool from... Thanks to "Admin" from that website for the post, garwynn from here for leading me there, and QBKing77 for instructions that taught me how to do this back when ICS just released for this phone. )

I've heard about a lot of people having problems with the no data version of gb27. I don't really wanna do the full restore one. Is there any other options out there?

No. Use a NODATA rooted FL24, install Titanium (PRO highly recommended), and backup all your apps, call log, sms inbox, etc.
Then put the Titanium Backup folder from your SDcard on a PC (or somewhere else safe, off the internal storage. External SD card is ok too).
Then run the RESTORE ROOTED GB27, which will repartition your internal storage, likely wiping everything. This is why you moved your backups. Install Titanium and restore your backup. Reboot.
Then reboot to recovery and do a nandroid backup. Copy this backup to your PC for futureproofing.
Now, if you want to be unrooted, you can Odin a NODATA UNROOTED GB27, and you should have all your apps and such intact, without root access.

I didn't have any issues with the NODATA that I did to my phone, and I got it from where I sent you... Maybe I just got lucky...
I'm completely new to rooting. I plan on rooting my Galaxy SII using the Cyanogenmod Installer. However, I want to know how to return to stock.
I found this FAQ online and want to know if it's the correct way of doing it or if there's some easier way out there.

I would also like to know if Triangle Away works with the Hercules? Thank you.

Well I first would do a superwipe on TWRP before anything, and download ODIN and your SAMSUNG drivers. I have included a nifty .zip file with everything you would ever need, with all of the firmwares, drivers and ODINs. After you run that superwipe, go on download mode by plugging in your USB cord on your computer, then on your phone. Hold down both volume keys and proceed to turn on your phone. Then, you should see a screen that says volume up to install custom firmware, and volume down to restart. Press volume up. Open ODIN, and click on the PDA or AP (which ever one it says) proceed to go to one of the three files, I have included either 4.0.3, 4.0.4 and 4.1.2. Pick which file you want to restore to and press start. Let it do it's thing and you're done. To root, just go back to ODIN, point it at your root folder and double click on the TWRP file. I have included the upgrade .zip as well to put it to the latest TWRP that works correctly. Enjoy! (The link is huge because it has EVERY SINGLE Stock ROM from ICS and up).

Also, I have not tried triangle away, but from what I know I've flashed so many times but I haven't even tripped the counter yet.
I'm bumping this with the intent of thanking you.
I followed your instructions to the dot and returned my phone to stock in preparation for the Note 3 I'm getting tomorrow. I feel like this thread should be stickied or included in some sort of master list so as to help the rest of the community.
A word of advice though. If Odin fails to recognize your SGH-T989, you must uninstall and then reinstall your Samsung Drivers. Once again, thank you!
