So it might be a bit premature to celebrate but I believe ive found a much a simpler way to get your evo ( or any other CDMA phone) on boost. *this worked for me and would like to know if anyone else could try this to confirm it works as im out of phones.
what you need: Boost Donor phone. (not activated, new or Used)
htc evo, droid etc etc with alterations already performed( cant discuss what I mean by this but search google)
step 1) and this is the only step!!!! instead of activating your donor phone and getting NAM and nv files and aaa , keys and all that other garbage, just activate your EVO. once you activate it the keys and all other info is automatically sent to the evo upon hands free activation.
Thats it!
My guess is when new account is made keys etc are generated from meid and sent 1 time and 1 time only. as-long as its a "boost" phone it will automatically update all files.
again this has worked for me on my fiances phone and took about 10 mins once alterations were made to her evo.
Would others please try this to confirm it wasnt a fluke.

I did a similar method. I didn't have too much money to spend on this whole process (I'm a college student). So what I did was I found a site that did the flashing remotely but they charged like $65 and I wasn't going to pay that much. But they also sold meids from boost incognito's separately for 10bucks. So I bought one and they emailed it to me within a few minutes along with a guide to get the evo to do an ota update for calls text and data. Basically, after getting the meids switched, the phone did an ota update and I've got everything working great. Only thing I did differently from you is that I activated the donor on boost's site before the whole process.

I had a TP2 on Boost for quite a while. Used it for my donor phone and all was well. But after a few probs with error 16 Sprint made me well aware my HTC device was not a Boost device. Well I got a clean Incog activated on the same account the Incog is a dead phone, I activated the EVO. Only prob so far I can't get data. Voice and text work but a constant error 67 is all I get without being able to get the NV items and Nams I think the idea is dead because the EVO will not update the profile. I'd be interested in what the word is on forcing an OTA update.

Well thanks for the info. I will try it one day, but not now. I found out the Incog was OK just bad battery. New battery arrived this morning and I was able to get all needed items from the Incog. I do think the OPs procedure will work though.

I need help deciding if there is something wrong or this guy is full of S#!T. I'm pretty comfortable with the Evo. I used mostly CM6, CM7, W2P2, & Warm Z nightly while just fiddling with others. I Recently sold my EVO on ebay here. Running Warm Z nightly still, it was pretty obvious it was Rooted. This guy buys it and doesn't even know how to make it usb storage or how to find it on "My Computer" in XP. Completely CLUELESS about rooting phones (but for some reason he still bought it..).
He took it to Sprint (instead of just calling in the EIM) and they noticed it was NOT a factory Rom. They said they couldn't activate it. I walked him through flashing the factory ROM from here. After doing this he claimed they still couldn't activate it over the phone, BUT he never really answered me when I asked what reason they gave for not being able to. He made it sound like it was a technical problem. He said they told him to return it and have me put on the original software (what we already did... minus un-rooting it)
I'm calling B.S. but wanted to know if there was anyone who knew the inner workings of Sprint and could enlighten me. Is there an actual reason I would not only have to put on factory rom, but also un-root it?
What do you think?
1) He's full of Crap
2) Technical Problem
*The WiMax keys were still there when I sold it. I did change the proxy settings using the MSL key but I figured that stuff was all reset when flashing the factory rom. It has RA-recovery.
You say the guy's an idiot... If the Sprint store asked him questions about the phone and he acted like a dummy, there's a good chance that the CSR thought the phone might've been stolen and they blocked it out.
I had a similar problem with Verizon once. Basically, all three of us (me, buyer, CS) had to three-way on the phone and tell them everything was legit before they released the phone from their death grip.
not sure how old this is but it sheds some light:
Per Sprint's TOS:
"Our Right To Suspend Or Terminate Services
We can, without notice, suspend or terminate any Service at any time for any reason, including, but not limited to: (a) late payment; (b) exceeding an Account Spending Limit; (c) harassing/threatening/abusing/offending our employees or agents; (d) providing false information; (e) interfering with our operations; (f) using/suspicion of using Services in any manner restricted by or inconsistent with the Agreement; (g) breaching the Agreement or failing to follow our Policies; (h) providing false, inaccurate, dated or unverifiable identification or credit information, or becoming insolvent or bankrupt; (i) modifying a Device from its manufacturer specifications; (j) failing to use our Services for an extended period of time; (k) failing to maintain an active Device in connection with the Service; or (l) if we believe the action protects our interests, any customer's interests or our network."
for those that hang around xda, we all know that rooting only enhances the experience, but Sprint is going to hang their hat on "modifying" the device and protect their interests
As long as the rom you are running allows you to successfully update the profile you can activate the phone.

i dont think sprint would care... if it was rooted and rom or not...
for activiation... why would they care???? sounds very fishy to me.

I had this happen to me when I sold a rooted evo last year, he can simply activate it online. And that's what I told the person I sold my phone to, to do and they got it activated. Some ppl should research what root is before they buy a rooted phone...

i think u should have sold him the phone running the original rom even if it was rooted

Sweet. I'll try that. Do you know which menu? On our phone conversation 10 minutes ago, he said he's willing to ship it back to me to get working and then back to him. He is so clueless he can't even tell me WHAT they tried only that they couldn't get it to work. He was on the phone with tech support for over 2 hours I guess.

Well, I made it pretty clear that it was rooted and highly modified. I guess my mistake was assuming people don't buy something they know nothing about.
I'll keep you updated...
This is what you need to do to fix this, I have the same problem./
( I meant your friend, not you)
You need to install the stock RUU.
Run it, and have it initialize, IT WILL ACTIVATE.
Then... after that, you can do a wipe and install CM7.
THIS PHONE WILL NOT ACTIVATE ON CM7 (OR ANY CM) ALONE, WITHOUT PREACTIVATING ON THE STOCK SENSE.
ALSO...He said the Sprint Tech guy did NOT ban the EMI and in fact verified that it was clear. He said it just would not activate on the sprint system...so maybe a profile update problem? Stock roms should be fine updating right? He downloaded the OTA #7 here from XDA from a direct link I gave him. I walked him through flashing it over the phone so I'm 95% sure he put it on there (5% hethought he successfully put it on). I guess we'll see.

Interesting thread. For reasons in this thread, I've never been comfortable selling an unlocked device on ebay or similar... In fact, the last 2 phones sold on ebay some weeks back were reverted to completely stock condition. Once the sale is over/phone activated, I don't want to know or hear from the buyer ever again.
It would seem that reading and comprehension has become a lost skill these days. In the ad, you don't specify which rom, but do specify it's sense, so little reason why he couldn't just activate it online or over the phone. From what you describe, the buyer simply doesn't know any better or understands what rooting enables.
Maybe the lesson here is to sell it root/unlocked, but with a fully stock sprint rom installed. The image for whatever custom rom (sense or otherwise) you had previously tweaked to work best with the device is then included in the nandroid folder. This way, should you end up with an ignorant buyer, there is little excuse from sprint regarding activation. If the buyer decides to try your customized/tweaked rom, you can include instructions in the email how to do this. Maybe even include both images - stock sprint and custom roms.
Before going back to sprint, I would try walking him through the online activation process.
##786# has an option to completely wipe all the ota info from the device. Once the esn is associated with his account, he should be able to perform an ota activation using this method, or settings/about/update profile.
Does he have a Sprint account? If so, screw the CSR and activate the phone online via ESN.
So last night I attempted to root my first Dinc 2. I followed the tutorial exactly using revolutionary to S-Off and the SU zip to root. Everything went smooth except I lost 3G signal. I then flashed several roms (CM7, virtuous, MIUI) and they all worked fine except still no 3g. I then tried a list of about 8 different radios incuding the newest 1.09.01.0622, still nothing.
At that point I decided to call verizon. They then informed me that my MEID was put on the lost/stolen list (crazy i kno), and that they could not help to activate it. They suggested I call amazon to get a new phone, which I did and it will be here tomorrow.
Naturally I still want to root but this issue is extremely frustrating and I want to make sure it doesnt happen a second time. So... does anyone have any suggestions for avoiding radio problems during the root?
Any help is appreciated... thanks!
Flashing a rom or rooting will not put your meid in the lost/stolen list. You confusing your radio issue with this. If your meid is on that list u cant ever get it activated ever.... No matter what. So basically u got bad phone from them. This is not a radio issue

I agree with you, 100%. The funny thing is that when i first got the phone yesterday morning I activated it and had 3g up and running just fine. It wasn't until I rooted and started flashing roms/radios that the 3g disappeared and I eventually had to call verizon.
I'm guessing the bad meid was a result of changing the radio so many times. So my primary concern is losing the 3G radio again when I go to root the new phone.

If I'm not mistaken someone has to report a phone lost or stolen in order for the MEID to be blocked by verizon. However it could have been someone doing just this and fat fingered the number.
Changing radio's multiple times or doing anything with root will not cause your meid to be blocked. Sounds like it was a mistake on the part of Verizon, in which case they owe you a phone right then and there.
Luckily Amazon is a great company and they made it right for you.
True, amazons support is amazing. I agree it must've been an error on verizons part but I also was thinking that I mightve rooted to quickly. I literally activated the phone and rooted like 2 mins later and my old phones service hadn't switched off yet. Idk, either way I'm waiting a day or 2 on the next one.
Rooting is like installing another version of windows on your pc. Its irrelivent from what verizon does. It just runs the phones hardware. I rooted all my phones like 10 mins afer i got em. Verizon cant see you have root remotly atm.. and they really dont care unless your sucking bandwidth with free pc tether. So rest assured u can root asap ur new phone.

Guys I would just purchase an XTC clip. I'm sure raskal is going to continue supporting new devices even though HTC is going to unlock them eventually. The thing with that though is that they do it wayyy too late, and you have to submit a bunch of info an void warranties. no thanks that's like christmas morning theres a bunch of presents under the tree but you can't open them until new years, maybe february.
All of the dinc 2's shipped by amazon right now have 2.2
I recently bought this phone. I had it reactivated today following a missed payment. it gave me a few problems getting it started again. and found out to boost it appears as a Sanyo incognito. the Serv rep wouldn't help me after finding out I had an EVO. so I'm dealing with very slow data speed. I also not on purpose factory reset my phone. so now its not rooted.
I want to post as much info as I have so far to whoever reads this. I heard about roms.. but I don't know what people are talking about when they say ##data#. also if I ended up rerooting the phone will it mess up since its already boost activated?
it also won't plr update.even on WiFi.
hello
you will need to do some thing PM me
I also have problem with my boost evo. What can I do to take the last update off or can I reset the Phone and stay on boost? Getting error messages. Can u pm me and tell me what u told the other guy. Can't remember his name.

67 and 1012 I think was the other. I did a hard reset and 3g is working now. I'm not sure if it took the update off but no error codes so far. I was gonna look into rooting and cm9 but not sure how the evo will handle it, running on boost. Methods look a lot harder than epic etc....

I am buying an HTC EVO 4G that has been flashed to Boost Mobile. What I need to know is this: what am I going to need to do to change all of the phone info switched over into my name and information? Also, would it help to run z4 Root on the EVO 4G to open up more apps? Any info would be helpful since this will be my first experience using a flashed phone. Thanks in advance for any help given.

First thing to know - if that evo has been flashed to boost mobile, that mean someone used a donor phone to copy information from original phone to th evo. I would buy evo on boost mobile only if it comes with original donor phone. The reason is simple - if something gonna happen to your evo and you will need to restore all information such an AAA, HA keys, meid, esn and other stuiff - you will need to have a donor phone, which in this case you will not gonna have. And you not sure in this case what happen to original phone on Boost Mobile - maybe seller copyed infor from the donor phone to many different phones? - who knows...
Hovewer if you will decide to buy it - there is going to be no problem to register on Boost Mobile (if it has been really flashed to it). Just dial ##786# on sense rom and there you will find the ESN and MEID information - that's all you need to reactive the phone on boost mobile network. They will charge you $50 at the first month + you will have to pay $10 reactivation fee plus taxes for everything.
If i were you - i would buy evo off craigslist for cheap with bad esn, also will find on craigslist the incognito phone and followed a guide you can find here in how to flash evo - it is not that simple, but you can try and always can ask for help here if any problem will happen. The worst can hppen - you will pay someone $40-50 to do that job, but you will be absolutely sure nothing is wrong. Good luck.

I recently went to PUGET SOUND ELECTRONICS and picked up a Sprint HTC EVO 4G flashed to Boost Mobile. It came with the donor phone and plenty of accessories and the phone is working fabulously... all for $205. My problem is I have Gingerbread 2.3 and can not upgrade my Adobe Flashplayer over-the-air because the error tells me my phone is not compatible with the latest version of Flash. Obviously, the HTC is compatible even if the donor phone isn't. I want to upgrade to ICS or something else but don't know how to flash a ROM (which I have been reading up on). I believe from what I have read I am capable of flashing to ICS but am concerned about my Boost Mobile Flash corrupting or deactivating... some of the forums online I have read talk of backing things up and then hitting factory reset.
So, my question is: HOW DO I GET ICE CREAM SANDWICH WITHOUT RUINING MY BOOST MOBILE FLASH?

I bought my phone from the same place, you do realize the phone is rooted so you can flash a new rom?
PUGET SOUND ELECTRONICS is a great group of people that sell a very good product, but the rom installed on the phone is , well, les than desirable , but the do a great job rooting and flashing. And great customer service! But the first thing I do when I get one of their phones is flash a new rom and they always work great!

I got an appt with sprint tech support or repair center whatever its called . I got to walk into one those stores in my area today in about 4 hours . Ive called sprint to many times about getting to many phantom voicemails, calls not going through, my phone not ringing when someone else calls me etc.. so they said to take it in . Im currently running Calks 3.0 GB rom EL29 and when you turn on the phone i have the yellow triangle show up..
Do i need to revert back to completely stock ?
or can i just take in like that and will they service it that way?
TIA to anyone that responds back with help....
MODS i know this has been asked before but i searched and didnt find the answer ..
Yes flash any stock rom before going.

dont want to drive all the way to the sprint store for them to tell "OH your device is rooted and we wont work on a device that is rooted". or tell me oh the reason your device is not working could be cause its rooted....
EDIT 2 : installed stock rooted EL 29 and when phone booted it notified me of the update available "ICS" gonna actually let it install since i know stock ICS sucks. .

THE Rep asked me "so whats wrong with your phone?" so i start telling her that i my phone wont ring some times and that some times it will ring till the callers phone has rang about 4 times and then she says" Oh thats normal the phone is set up that way its set up to have that delay" i was like WROOOOONNGGG no way any phone is set up to have a delay .. well we went back and forth and they didnt even touch my phone i could have been on any custom rom and they wouldnt have cared . she just put some notes in my acct for the next rep to help me....
I also to prove to her the problem grabbed one of the phones on display that is active it was a EVO 4g LTE and called my phone from it and my phone didnt ring till the 4th ring hanged up and then called the EVO phone back and the evo rang on first ring.. All she said was oh its our network theres a tower down went back and forth and figured she dont know what she's talking about....
Then called sprint and the rep did a RTN or something like that which included a full wipe and restore of factory settings and now during the day i have to see if it works or not.

We had this happen to us during NV updates in the area. Not sure if that was it or another issue so I'll throw this out as well: Did you upgrade from an older phone and keep the phone? If so, make sure it's turned off. If it's still happening you'll probably want to see if they're doing NV upgrades in the area as we had all sorts of funky stuff happening. (Towers reporting wrong times, etc.)

Unfortunately the antenna for this phone seems to be a big sticking point for a lot of folks. Now that NV is almost done around here I am doing better; the recent modem updates helped as well. But there are still some problems.... like a certain location I know I have to get off the phone because the tower handoff fails every time.
the radio on this phone sucks thats why im undecided on what phone to upgrade too.. I need to change phone cause of this problem but what phone should i get is the problem
SGS3 almost the same as this phone yeah i know it has some new features but i feel like since its a samsung it most likely will have the same issue : weak radio...
HTC EVO 4g LTE very low on memory . many complain about it having issues connecting to LTE (where LTE is available) but HTC does make good Radio's ..
Galaxy note 2 has many new features it is big in size but ill get used to it and ill use a bluetooth so i wont look crazy holding up to my ear but since theres no LTE in my area i cant be able to talk and surf the web (the evo and sgs3 could) its still a samsung and samsung makes weak radios ....

If you can convince them - honestly, whittle it down to 3-4 and then take them out to your regular work sites and test them.
Then based on how they perform where you need it to you can make a call.
Not sure how it works with Sprint but would think they should allow this kind of testing before you purchase - or upgrade in your case. (MVNO we use does this...)
what i know of sprint is they let you use the device for 14 days and you have to decide if you want it or not....
also i was thinking of trying tmobile out cause im tired of sprints slow 3g data.. I dont have Sprints 4g service everywhere i go... just want to see if anyone who lives in the inland empire California can tell me there experience with it...
