I am buying an HTC EVO 4G that has been flashed to Boost Mobile. What I need to know is this: what am I going to need to do to change all of the phone info switched over into my name and information? Also, would it help to run z4 Root on the EVO 4G to open up more apps? Any info would be helpful since this will be my first experience using a flashed phone. Thanks in advance for any help given.

First thing to know - if that evo has been flashed to boost mobile, that mean someone used a donor phone to copy information from original phone to th evo. I would buy evo on boost mobile only if it comes with original donor phone. The reason is simple - if something gonna happen to your evo and you will need to restore all information such an AAA, HA keys, meid, esn and other stuiff - you will need to have a donor phone, which in this case you will not gonna have. And you not sure in this case what happen to original phone on Boost Mobile - maybe seller copyed infor from the donor phone to many different phones? - who knows...
Hovewer if you will decide to buy it - there is going to be no problem to register on Boost Mobile (if it has been really flashed to it). Just dial ##786# on sense rom and there you will find the ESN and MEID information - that's all you need to reactive the phone on boost mobile network. They will charge you $50 at the first month + you will have to pay $10 reactivation fee plus taxes for everything.
If i were you - i would buy evo off craigslist for cheap with bad esn, also will find on craigslist the incognito phone and followed a guide you can find here in how to flash evo - it is not that simple, but you can try and always can ask for help here if any problem will happen. The worst can hppen - you will pay someone $40-50 to do that job, but you will be absolutely sure nothing is wrong. Good luck.

I recently went to PUGET SOUND ELECTRONICS and picked up a Sprint HTC EVO 4G flashed to Boost Mobile. It came with the donor phone and plenty of accessories and the phone is working fabulously... all for $205. My problem is I have Gingerbread 2.3 and can not upgrade my Adobe Flashplayer over-the-air because the error tells me my phone is not compatible with the latest version of Flash. Obviously, the HTC is compatible even if the donor phone isn't. I want to upgrade to ICS or something else but don't know how to flash a ROM (which I have been reading up on). I believe from what I have read I am capable of flashing to ICS but am concerned about my Boost Mobile Flash corrupting or deactivating... some of the forums online I have read talk of backing things up and then hitting factory reset.
So, my question is: HOW DO I GET ICE CREAM SANDWICH WITHOUT RUINING MY BOOST MOBILE FLASH?

I bought my phone from the same place, you do realize the phone is rooted so you can flash a new rom?
PUGET SOUND ELECTRONICS is a great group of people that sell a very good product, but the rom installed on the phone is , well, les than desirable , but the do a great job rooting and flashing. And great customer service! But the first thing I do when I get one of their phones is flash a new rom and they always work great!
well good!

I wondered if the phone was actually rooted! thanks! So what ROM do you run?
I want to update everything enough to do Flash updates and play avengers alliance on Facebook.
This is only the second smart phone I have ever had and the first one didn't even have a camera so I am a little behind the curve... but I knew Pugent Sound Elec was a good company to deal with!:good:

Hello everyone,
I live in Indy where we don't currently have 4G and don't anticipate on getting it anytime soon.
However, I keep seeing threads pop up where people have flashed a rom or done something that breaks the 4G capability.
Does anyone know how this is happening? I'd like to keep my 4G intact just in case I ever get the chance to use it. Have played with several roms already. Phone came with Froyo and did the downgrade root method.
Thanks!

there is no 4g support on aosp roms because the htc code for wimax is not open source. cyanogen only uses open source code in his roms and it is being reverse engineered at this moment. all the other sense roms should have working 4g w/ no problems.

Well, I'm definitely not "in the know" regarding the 4G, but I would assume ROMs do not have the correct drivers or settings for the 4G.
However, if you do not think you will be getting soon, why not simply "lose" 4G ? Should you get 4G in your area, wouldn't flashing to an official ROM "fix" the 4G again ? That would of course require you to reinstall all your stuff, and make all the settings the way you want them again, but that's only a few hours of work usually.
For example I saw a thread about someone who went from CM6 to Fresh and 4g won't obtain a MAC address. I did the same thing. CM6 to Fresh.
Someone responded and said he'd have to return the phone for replacing.

Hey fellow Sprint Evo user from Indy. Lets not worry about 4G in Indy, that won't come anytime soon considering Sprint can't get 3G implemented across Indy.
Here's how it happened to me....
I had my first EVO and I played with 4g before I rooted and rom'd it. After flashing a rom (Stock 2.2 rooted) it worked fine.
Then I had to replace my evo... so the replacement came, I opened it, and immediately rooted it. It wasn't even activated yet, and I did not play with 4g. After flashing Fresh 3.1.0.2 I noticed 4g wasnt working. I checked my MAC address and it was the same as under the battery, but for some reason my phone would not get past the "scanning" stage.
So... here's what I did:
I flashed RA Recovery and wiped everything and flashed to the latest OTA (HTC 3.26.651.6) which can be found here. After that I started playing around with my 4g, and got it to work. Then I flashed Fresh 3.2 and my 4g still works.
Someone had recommended I delete my tree.xml file which I never tried... a complete wipe did that anyways.
Anyways... sorry to make this long. Just chipping in what I have found. I hope it helps.
Yeah I'm not entirely worried about 4G. I just don't want to do anything unknowingly permanent. I tend to sell my phones on eBay when I'm ready to upgrade and a 3G only evo wouldn't be worth much.

the only permanent 4g damage you can do is to wipe the RSA keys. nobody seems to really know how this happens. it happened to my evo and i had never even rooted before.
Yeah my RSA certs got wiped; had an issue one night flashing a ROM and latest WiMax, things didn't wipe right and all hell broke loose, ended up flashing the WiMax radio twice and that seemed to do it. Someone else mentioned this here and that seemed to do it for me.

yeah, i read his post at first like that too. when he said "that seemed to do it", i think he meant that is what wiped the rsa keys. but can we get clarification?
sprint basically needs to create a tool that restores rsa keys for the evo. i understand they have this for their 4g data cards already. i'm hoping they do this so i don't have to return my phone (which is otherwise perfect) for some effed up refurb.
EDIT: oops, didn't realize a pg 2 had appeared. so no rsa key fix here...move on...

are you within 30 days of purchase? if not, how did you get sprint to send you a new one? the CSR i spoke with told me they don't have the option to order new and when a replacement is ordered you will get refurb if they have them and new if they have no refurb. also, do you pay the sprint insurance? i think that factors into this as well. i pay the $7 insurance.

right, i agree that it falls under the manufacturers warranty and i am also dealing directly with sprint but they will not guarantee me a new phone as replacement. it's the hit or miss thing i described above. i called a corp store and they said the same thing. in fact, they said they had refubs in stock so i would walk out of the store with a refurb. i asked you about the $7 thing because i'm wondering if their systems treat the replacement differently depending on whether you pay it or not. i was literally told there is no way they could order me a new phone as replacement and as far as sprint reps go, this one sounded more "with it" than others. have you received the phone yet? is it really new?
Well, dude said it'd be new ... am waiting 2-4 business days as they didn't have any in stock at the store. He made it sound like if they had one in the back he'd hook it up, but they didn't. Am assuming it's going to be new. If not, I just hope I don't come up with some other issue if it is a refurb. Have had bad experiences with refurbished - uh - things in the past.
I didn't want to press my luck and ask if another Sprint store in the area might have any in stock, thus I could head elsewhere ... figured I'd just let it all play out. Time will tell though if it's new or not. As said, as long as I have a phone that works I wouldn't really mind a refurb. But I'd prefer a new one ...
right. i share the same opinion. prefer new over refurb. and i'm hard pressed to go the refurb route now with my only issue being non-functional 4g.
let us know what you end up with...
Yessir, will do.
Got the new phone, everything went swimmingly (do people really say that?) and it appears to be new, guy said it was new, not refurbished. Will have to check when I find the post that detailed the quick way of checking.
People were extremely helpful, 4G is back baybaaaay but also soon to be gone. But, I noticed I didn't have an SD card, not sure if he was supposed to have taken mine out and put it in, alas I just walked out without checking. Sat down with a beer and noticed and had to go back up there. All is well in the world, all is well.

I need help deciding if there is something wrong or this guy is full of S#!T. I'm pretty comfortable with the Evo. I used mostly CM6, CM7, W2P2, & Warm Z nightly while just fiddling with others. I Recently sold my EVO on ebay here. Running Warm Z nightly still, it was pretty obvious it was Rooted. This guy buys it and doesn't even know how to make it usb storage or how to find it on "My Computer" in XP. Completely CLUELESS about rooting phones (but for some reason he still bought it..).
He took it to Sprint (instead of just calling in the EIM) and they noticed it was NOT a factory Rom. They said they couldn't activate it. I walked him through flashing the factory ROM from here. After doing this he claimed they still couldn't activate it over the phone, BUT he never really answered me when I asked what reason they gave for not being able to. He made it sound like it was a technical problem. He said they told him to return it and have me put on the original software (what we already did... minus un-rooting it)
I'm calling B.S. but wanted to know if there was anyone who knew the inner workings of Sprint and could enlighten me. Is there an actual reason I would not only have to put on factory rom, but also un-root it?
What do you think?
1) He's full of Crap
2) Technical Problem
*The WiMax keys were still there when I sold it. I did change the proxy settings using the MSL key but I figured that stuff was all reset when flashing the factory rom. It has RA-recovery.
You say the guy's an idiot... If the Sprint store asked him questions about the phone and he acted like a dummy, there's a good chance that the CSR thought the phone might've been stolen and they blocked it out.
I had a similar problem with Verizon once. Basically, all three of us (me, buyer, CS) had to three-way on the phone and tell them everything was legit before they released the phone from their death grip.
not sure how old this is but it sheds some light:
Per Sprint's TOS:
"Our Right To Suspend Or Terminate Services
We can, without notice, suspend or terminate any Service at any time for any reason, including, but not limited to: (a) late payment; (b) exceeding an Account Spending Limit; (c) harassing/threatening/abusing/offending our employees or agents; (d) providing false information; (e) interfering with our operations; (f) using/suspicion of using Services in any manner restricted by or inconsistent with the Agreement; (g) breaching the Agreement or failing to follow our Policies; (h) providing false, inaccurate, dated or unverifiable identification or credit information, or becoming insolvent or bankrupt; (i) modifying a Device from its manufacturer specifications; (j) failing to use our Services for an extended period of time; (k) failing to maintain an active Device in connection with the Service; or (l) if we believe the action protects our interests, any customer's interests or our network."
for those that hang around xda, we all know that rooting only enhances the experience, but Sprint is going to hang their hat on "modifying" the device and protect their interests
As long as the rom you are running allows you to successfully update the profile you can activate the phone.

Sweet. I'll try that. Do you know which menu? On our phone conversation 10 minutes ago, he said he's willing to ship it back to me to get working and then back to him. Well, I made it pretty clear that it was rooted and highly modified. I guess my mistake was assuming people don't buy something they know nothing about.
I'll keep you updated...
This is what you need to do to fix this, I have the same problem./
( I meant your friend, not you)
You need to install the stock RUU.
Run it, and have it initialize, IT WILL ACTIVATE.
Then... after that, you can do a wipe and install CM7.
THIS PHONE WILL NOT ACTIVATE ON CM7 (OR ANY CM) ALONE, WITHOUT PREACTIVATING ON THE STOCK SENSE.
ALSO...He said the Sprint Tech guy did NOT ban the EMI and in fact verified that it was clear. He said it just would not activate on the sprint system...so maybe a profile update problem? Stock roms should be fine updating right? He downloaded the OTA #7 here from XDA from a direct link I gave him. I walked him through flashing it over the phone so I'm 95% sure he put it on there (5% hethought he successfully put it on). I guess we'll see.

Interesting thread. For reasons in this thread, I've never been comfortable selling an unlocked device on ebay or similar... In fact, the last 2 phones sold on ebay some weeks back were reverted to completely stock condition. Once the sale is over/phone activated, I don't want to know or hear from the buyer ever again.
It would seem that reading and comprehension has become a lost skill these days. In the ad, you don't specify which rom, but do specify it's sense, so little reason why he couldn't just activate it online or over the phone. From what you describe, the buyer simply doesn't know any better or understands what rooting enables.
Maybe the lesson here is to sell it root/unlocked, but with a fully stock sprint rom installed. The image for whatever custom rom (sense or otherwise) you had previously tweaked to work best with the device is then included in the nandroid folder. This way, should you end up with an ignorant buyer, there is little excuse from sprint regarding activation. If the buyer decides to try your customized/tweaked rom, you can include instructions in the email how to do this. Maybe even include both images - stock sprint and custom roms.
Before going back to sprint, I would try walking him through the online activation process.
##786# has an option to completely wipe all the ota info from the device. Once the esn is associated with his account, he should be able to perform an ota activation using this method, or settings/about/update profile.
Does he have a Sprint account? If so, screw the CSR and activate the phone online via ESN.
So I put my EVO up for sale on CL and got a lot of responses, one possible buyer said he would take it next week.. The buyer wants me to keep the phone rooted. Would I just flash a rooted stock ROM then call Sprint to deactivate it? This is my first time deactivating a rooted phone so I just want to make sure everything goes fine, if this guy shows up at all..
I would just sell it as is if you do not find someone sooner
Swyped from my Orange Peeled Synergist EVO
Yea the sooner the better.. The buyer has actually kept in contact with me since I put up the ad so that's always a plus.. I think I had 20 + replies when I sold my iPod but only one of the people who replied actually kept in contact.. So there's nothing different/special I would have to do prior to the sale?

Ok cool thanks for letting me know!
Proper way? Money gets placed in your hand, Phone gets placed in new owners hand. Part ways with a smile.
I guess the only real tip was already said, he will need a Sense ROM that allows for activation (# codes typically).
What I would do would be to flash something like Fresh or the stock rooted OTA and let the new owner worry about changing ROMs later.
Also remember, that if you want to keep your phone number, to port out first. If you call and cancel the line, you will lose the number. Or if you are just swapping phones but staying on Sprint, do an ESN change to the new phone you want to use. This will allow the old phone to be transferred.
And finally, if you owe money on the old phone (say you ported and owe an early term fee) the new owner can't activate until your bill is squared away.

Whoa whoa whoa... are you saying I have to smile? Will this break 4G?
lol jk, thanks for the info brother.. Didn't want to inadvertently screw this guy over (or myself).. My bill is all squared away so thats good.. I'm going to have to do an ESN swap before hand to my old Palm Pre, I'll be using the money from the sale o buy the Photon (or SGSII if it's out by then )
Thanks for the help guys
had my evo flashed by a local metro dealer(full flash). He put the metro edition CM7 on the phone. However im trying to force one of metros new prl in order to get 3g. So on to the question since my ports wont show up on cm7 if i make a nand backup of my settings now switch to a sense rom so i can get the ports to show up for qpst force the prl then restore my backup will i have to run any scripts or willl i be right back where i was but with the new prl?
Did you try to re-designate your port.. meaning veiw the list of ports that's listed under "ports" in computer management, right click on the listed device, and go to properties, then advanced settings in the ports tab [I think its called that] and res designating it to com1 or one that's not in use.. and when you were in "qpst setup" did you click that little box that only allows you tto view certain ports? [I forgot the name mybad] that happened to me when I had to set up the ports.. give me the rundown on what you did and Ill try my best to help you out.. not many people here know how to use qpst.

I think he is asking if the prl changes when you nand-restore. Simple answer no, that really the most common way AOSP users change them out.
I am one of the many unfamiliar with qpst so I am not sure about this method 100%.
I ended up just flashing the sense rom so I could get the drivers to install properly. I was mainly concerned that if I switched roms it would make me lose web and mms. I was enable to switch and force the prl. And restore my backup without losing anything. To my surprise everything workwd when I was on the sense rom without running any web scripts or metrooff. I'm new to the device so was concerned but once someone else agreed I could do it I went ahead. Thanks for checking my thread though

Yea. It took me a while to fine someone that did a full flash. I had to go to the hood.lol. I was gonna do the Houdini at the store by me but they wanted more than the other place for the full flash. I just wish we could add esn's to the data base on our own then we could just do it all ourselves.

haha.. I'm with you on that one, that'd be awesome.
In thier defense though they probably make it like that so they can try to limi the number of people useing devices with bad esn's. So its probably a discretionary thing for the stores if they want to do. And im sure in some cases the people just might not know how to. But if metro would just step up the quality of the devices people wouldnt have to flash from oter carriers. However the esteem is pretty sweet we just gotta wait for metro to make some money so they can lower the prices of their 4g handsets.

so true.. their devices are pretty damn expensive, and not really worth the money if you ask me.. personally i'd pick boost over metro because it seems so much easier to go from an incognito to an evo 4g or epic 4g than its is to do it from metro.. and the service in my area is awesome .. but hey you cant beat the pretty damn low price of a no contract provider
Yea I almost made the switch to boost when I bought this evo. But they wanted 130 to flash and had to wait a month for some reason till my number could be in it. I wanted it for 3g but whenever I'm really using my phone app wise or browser I'm on wifi anyway. I still might do it down the road only time will.

So it might be a bit premature to celebrate but I believe ive found a much a simpler way to get your evo ( or any other CDMA phone) on boost. *this worked for me and would like to know if anyone else could try this to confirm it works as im out of phones.
what you need: Boost Donor phone. (not activated, new or Used)
htc evo, droid etc etc with alterations already performed( cant discuss what I mean by this but search google)
step 1) and this is the only step!!!! instead of activating your donor phone and getting NAM and nv files and aaa , keys and all that other garbage, just activate your EVO. once you activate it the keys and all other info is automatically sent to the evo upon hands free activation.
Thats it!
My guess is when new account is made keys etc are generated from meid and sent 1 time and 1 time only. as-long as its a "boost" phone it will automatically update all files.
again this has worked for me on my fiances phone and took about 10 mins once alterations were made to her evo.
Would others please try this to confirm it wasnt a fluke.

I did a similar method. I didn't have too much money to spend on this whole process (I'm a college student). So what I did was I found a site that did the flashing remotely but they charged like $65 and I wasn't going to pay that much. But they also sold meids from boost incognito's separately for 10bucks. So I bought one and they emailed it to me within a few minutes along with a guide to get the evo to do an ota update for calls text and data. Basically, after getting the meids switched, the phone did an ota update and I've got everything working great. Only thing I did differently from you is that I activated the donor on boost's site before the whole process.

I had a TP2 on Boost for quite a while. Used it for my donor phone and all was well. But after a few probs with error 16 Sprint made me well aware my HTC device was not a Boost device. Well I got a clean Incog activated on the same account the Incog is a dead phone, I activated the EVO. Only prob so far I can't get data. Voice and text work but a constant error 67 is all I get without being able to get the NV items and Nams I think the idea is dead because the EVO will not update the profile. I'd be interested in what the word is on forcing an OTA update.

Well thanks for the info. I will try it one day, but not now. I found out the Incog was OK just bad battery. New battery arrived this morning and I was able to get all needed items from the Incog. I do think the OPs procedure will work though.
