I'm trying to revert a Sprint customers phone back to factory defaults so he can install the carrier patches and updates, is there a way to do this? would i need to unroot or just flash a stock rom?
just need to know where to start, any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated
Assuming it is rooted now, if you don't want it to be rooted, just flash a stock RUU, that will unroot and return you to stock. If you want it to stay rooted, just flash a stock rooted rom.

I was rooted for a while using the Revolutionary method, but decided to return my phone to stock due to some other issues I was having with it. My question now is, I still have S-Off with 2.3.4, will it accept the ICS OTA update if/when it comes out? Thanks in advance!!
If you are on the stock ROM with stock recovery, you will receive, and more importantly, be able to install, the OTA even if you have s-off. The most important part is to have stock recovery because the OTA needs it to perform the upgrade.
Thanks! How can I verify if I have the stock recovery?
Do you really need the OTA. I bet once the official ics drops these devs will have something stable to flash very soon after release. Then you can use what ever recovery you choose.
Questions belong in Q&A.
You could also use this to return to stock everything.

That is what I used to return to stock but it leaves S-off, which was the purpose of my question. Thanks, tho!
i have stock rooted backup rom. i cant install jb update. is it becoz of rooted?? if yes how can i unroot?
Good question, i also would like to know this. im in ICS ARHD
Rooted doesn't matter. As long as it's a stock ROM for your CID, all you need to do is flash the stock RECOVERY and kernel and you're good to go.
As far as i know you need to unroot it too, its a system change that will not allow to update ......
But you could try....then we all know it for sure

Actually root doesn't matter in the matter of getting OTAs. Updating through OTA will just remove root, and you can just root it again after that. Same method with ICS

Same like mine. Can not upgrade without unrooting.
you have to Relock, flash the official ICS version then use auto upgrade to JB.
I have tried to root again the official JB using same method for ICS then bricked my phone. now have to use a cooked rom instead bcoz can not downgrade ro stock ICS

Cool, maybe this one is different then. When i wanted to update from 4.03 to 4.04 i had to remove root, it wouldn't update untill i did that......strange
Hello all,
I'm using 4.0.4 on I747M with telus. Had to delete the 2 files to disable the OTA update notifications since at the time there was no root for 4.1.2
Now the question is, i've done 1 click with unified toolkit by mskip to root, flash etc.
Can i simply flash any 4.1.2 custom rom or manufacture rom or should i restore to factory default, do the update and then root and do custom rom?
Or naturally is there a simply way to get OTA updates enabled?
Thanks for you help!
to clarify, you are rooted and running the 4.0.4 stock firmware?
if you want to receive OTA updates from your carrier, you need to be on the stock/unrooted firmware.
if you want to run a custom rom, and you're already rooted, install a custom recovery like clockworkmod or twrp. this will allow you to flash a rom. be sure to only flash roms that are intended for your model.
Yeah i already have CW. just wanted to make sure if going different build will cause issues.
Thanks!

if you have an i747 or i747M, stick with those ROMs as anything else will cause serious problems with your device.

if you're on an i747/i747M than that should be just fine. remember to make a backup first and perform a full wipe before flashing. if you're unfamiliar with some of these techniques, follow the link in my signature. it outlines what procedures to follow to safely get you running smooth.
For warranty purposes, i need to do these. Currently, my FLO's bootloader is unlocked, rooted and has custom kernel and recovery. but it is still in Stock JSS15R Rom. how will i unroot, flash stock kernel and relock without downloading stock roms? is that possible? because the method i only see here is to flash stock rom or use nexus toolkit to unroot. but i think when i use the toolkit it downloads the stock rom again right? thanks in advance!

I sold my Note 2 for Sprint and I now just want to flash a stock Touchwiz ROM or near stock at least. I haven't used the phone in a few months and i've looked over the development forum but i'm unclear on what to flash. I remember seeing a stock ROM but I can no longer find it. I am currently on Dirty Unicorns 4.4.4, baseband L900VPAMA7. All I want is the easiest way to send my phone to the buyer with a stock or near stock experience. I want the easiest avenue because I do not want to brick the phone right before I send it out. I also have a nandroid of my first stock backup of Android 4.1.1 which I don't know if it is safe to flash. Can someone please steer me in the right direction? It would be really appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks for the response.
From what I gathered and correct me if i'm wrong, simply flashing the MC2 Stock zip, it will unroot the phone and take me back to stock (what version of Android does it downgrade to? Will the phone be able to receive the updated versions of Touchwiz?). If I want to stay rooted, then i flash the root.zip file right after i flash the MC2 Stock zip? (Would this be able to get updates to Touchwiz?)
Are there any other alternatives to getting a stock experience?
I did this about 2 month ago and it went back to stock unroot...yes u will be able to update... also it u want to stay rooted then flash the root file right after before again before rebooting and it will stay rooted ...no if stay rooted u will not be able to get update.... If u reall wanted to stay rooted there's a few stock rooted rom .. link provided

If you have taken the ne2 ota or flashed it with odin DO NOT FLASH that file. If you have not taken the ne2 update than it is ok to use.
